Grey Eyes

This came about as the result of a C-Box conversation. I went searching for pictures of characters with gray eyes, and though I admit grey eyes are rare in the EK and FN, they are indeed possible. However, it seems that these grey eyes all have a green or brown tint to them.

First off, compare with Aang, who has grey eyes (an apparent Air Nomad trait) as seen here.

Now for those in the EK with grey eyes:

Xin Fu. As you can see, his eyes are lighter than Aang's... they seem to have a greenish tint to them.

Song has a brown tint to her grey eyes, almost to the point where they appear to be entirely brown.

In the FN, we only have one character (as far as I know) who has grey eyes, and that is Ty Lee. As seen here, Ty Lee also has a brown tint to her eyes.

So what does this mean? Well, first off, I believe that those with grey eyes in the FN must have a brown tint to them (as brown is a FN eye color) and EK must have a green or brown tint (both EK eye colors).

I assume many are familiar with the theory that Ty Lee is a descendant of Monk Afiko, which explains her grey eyes. But how to explain the grey eyes in all the other characters? Personally, I find it highly unlikely that the Air Nomads were completely wiped out in the genocide. Those who survived would have mated with EK citizens, thus creating a recessive trait of grey eyes.

This doesn't mean there are Air Nomads living today in the Ava-world, merely descendants. In time, the Air Nomads would have assimilated into the EK culture... and gene pool... until any Air Nomad traits were almost completely indistinguishable from EK traits.

Could it be remotely possible that their eyes are naturally occuring, or at least have that trait from someone generations ago (not just some AN grandparent or great grandparent)?

Keep in mind that the Air Temples are rather close to the two other bending polities so it is possible to have airbenders with a EK, WT or even FN bloodline.

So if you're supporting the "not entirely eradicated" theory it's possible that it wasn't JUST a matter of having descendants by non-Air Nomads. Afterall most of them that could pass would simply have to change their clothes and grow out their hair to be somewhat safe.

Is this all going anywhere? I dun know. Especially when you throw in bending. But (I think) it takes a lot more time to dilute a gene pool after two or three pairings.

Heeeeeeeeeeey, a long time ago, when I made my Proto-Hyuin, I came up with a theory that accounted for Hyun's grey eyes and he was from Earth Kingdom. Jia said that I had to have some kind of background for it. It was a massive undertaking to explain and hash out. @_@
