The season finale did not clear up whether or not female waterbenders are allowed to train at the North Pole now. It would be tons easier on Feng Shui if we allowed this, but would it be close to the show? I need good, clear reasons why you vote the way you did.

I think that females should waterbend for many reasons:
1.) We men will be bored...sorta. 2.) If Katara can waterbender, so should other women 3.) It is unfair because of Reason #2 and all they can do is heal while the men fight. Maybe men can heal too ^^ 4.) Many girl Water Tribe RPers would want to Waterbend.

It's never made clear if Pakku changed his mind totally or only trained Katara because she was his former flame's granddaughter. Notice that Katara was still the only girl training.
Also, Yue still felt such a connection to the old ways she felt she still had to stay in the forced engagement, even after Katara's explanation of her grandmother's actions. I don't know if there might not be a lot of that kind of reaction. So for now, I would say no.

I think that due to the battle of the North Pole, and simply the fact that the war has now come to them that the Northern Water Tribe will allow girls to train. However, in our RPG I think this should be under strict guidelines that would fit well within the Northern Water Tribe's Culture.
Such as: The character must be well gifted with waterbending. This could be deiceded by the mods (my personal opinion says it should be dependant on how good the RPer is but I am rather biased.) No children or anyone under the age of 16 (or whatever age the mods and admin choose). Females must learn healing first and foremost Females will be trained only in dire circumstances and only a selected few will be trained. They will not fight on the front lines.
Thats my take.

I say no. Katara was allowed to learn bending due to the fact that Paku just happened to've been engaged to Kana/Gran-Gran. Normal girls'll still be in the healing hut. A waterbending girl that lives in the earth kingdom or something could very well be an intermediate bender, but masters are most likely going to be male.....or Katara.

My vote is yes, but limit it to a certain amount of females. I agree with Raiiri that Katara was allowed to train because of the whole Gran-Gran incedent, but in my opinion, the tribe would have unrest afterwards if only one girl was allowed to train. Remember, they are still a human society, and people can be driven quite strongly by jealousy. My guess is that the already-damadged city would fall into even more disruption. After the recent battle, I don't think the city can afford to go into another amoung their own people. So I think that a few select students would be chosen to train with Master Paku, but the segregation would be non-existant. A boy had to be just as good as a girl and vise-versa to be able to train with him.

'but masters are most likely going to be male.....or Katara' Well, wouldn't it be unfair of Paku to just let her sort-of-granddaughter bend? I'm sure that other women will slowly learn how to bend in the NWT.

That's a hard one. So I divided them ;D :
Reasons to say no:
-It isn't in The Northern Water Tribe's culture
-Just because Katara learns doesn't mean they've changed their minds about ALL girls
Reasons to say yes:
-Like said before (by Sukai) many girls RPers would want to water bend.
-Maybe some other masters decided to teach girls (ya never know)
Over all:
I think that you should allow girl water benders on these conditions:
-Girl water benders can only be Masters if they're masters in healing
-They can't sneak out, watch the men practice and become masters (because it's done too many times, and it's kinda Mary Sue-ish, no offense to anyone)
-They can know how to defend themselves
- They should only know simple moves, because where would they learn advanced moves?
-They would know how to control the water but only how to move it places and not to do fancy water moves
That's just what I think. It's kinda stupid so forgive me , I'm a ghost *floats* ;D

If you want my opinion , I think it should be restricted. Not to heavely though. Just like they're only aloud to move water or somethin...

I don't think that they were restricted from pratically using waterbending, but more for fighting.

That's probably true. What I'm trying to say is that they probably were only allowed to moves the water up and around (and to heal) for like moving a ship this off the coast, but not to make stances and such while waterbending.

I think FS should allow female waterbenders. Katara is a good example. I'm sure she's given a good impression, and Pakku seems to have loosen with all the tribe's customs too. Now that the fire nation is really aiming at the water tribes, wouldn't it make sense to have female waterbenders? Especially if they're desperate for survival..

But, the problem is, we really don't know. We don't know if the Fire Nation is going to concentrate on the North Pole or not. That was one episode.... well, maybe two or three, but I think they'd be more worried about teh Earth Nation right now.... bigger threat....

I think female waterbenders should be able to learn. But you have to have limits (like how well their training, and not having any masters, etc.) I think since you guys have been doing pretty well with the Mary-Due monitoring, the waterbending issue shouldn't be so big.
Plus, I think the NWT needs some more soldiers. Why not train the women?
(BTW, Sukai, I love you're new icon)
