Ahoy! Welcome to Feng Shui's fashion thread where you'll find some help and basic understanding of fashion in the Feng Shui Avatar-based world. But we don't mean fashion as just clothes but also a few cultural conventions we try to apply based on the show, source material and speculation. - Sekar's Name List
-a wonderful link collection of name lists from about the planet created and originally organized Sekar.
- Height & Weight
-none of this physically impossible and unhealthy 5'11, 103 pound women because here you can find reference and visual aid for a proper character height and weight.
- Sekar's Asian Clothing Reference
-another one of Sekar gratifyingly useful creations, this time a reference and visual aid of various clothing appropriate for the Avaverse
- Jialing's Color List
-a listing of colors to help inspire you to break out from the mundane of red, yellow, green, blue. NOTE: Originally created for the Aang/Hundred Year War period, parts of this thread may be outdated but it overall still continues to have relevance in the new Korra era. We will update as and when we can. "If you need help with current clothing styles in the Korra time period, feel free to ask staff and other members around the site. Also, I'm just guessing, but you may want to look into clothing styles anywhere between 1700s to the early 1900s. That's just my rough estimate." ~ Chamir

NOTE: For space because we're squishing threads together, this list has been shortened from its massively original length. Obviously not as convienant as her original thread, but maybe it can still be just as useful. Rather than linking to the specifc pages as she did, this post will link you to the main site. But please, if you see Sekar/Tikaani around, offer her your gratitude. 20,000 NamesAsian NamesBaby Name GuideBaby Name NetworkBabynologyBehind the NameBubba Boo Baby NamesCalifornia State Polytechnic University, Pomona Asian Name Pronounciation GuideCool Baby NamesKate Monk's Dictionary of Names
Need help figuring out which names to use? Well here's how it works: Names among the Northern & Southern Water Tribes tend to include the sounds “K,” “OH,” “AH,” or “AW” and are cultural derived from Americans about the artic circle and pacific northwest, such as the Inuit and Yupik. The names of their kinfolk, the Foggy Swamp Tribe, are often monosyllabic and sometimes end in a vowel or double vowel while their names are speculated to originate from countries such as Vietnam and Cambodia. People of the Earth Kingdom have names that can be pointed towards not just China but Korea and some Southeast Asian countries such as India with Kyoshi Island inhabitants possessing Japanese names. Meanwhile Fire Nation names use strong consonants or sometimes the letter “Z” and their cultural name influence is not just Chinese but some Mongolian and Japanese as well. Though we do encourage these naming conventions, you are not forced to use them. You have many options within the range of a fitting non-western culture or region. If you are not sure of a name you would like to use then feel free to ask a moderator or another player. How many names a character has (i.e. given name, middle name, style name, martial name, surname, alias, etc.) is up to you but try not to go too overboard with it.

Of course, most of the mods do not personally endorse being specific with heights and weights in RolePlaying, do take note that here at Feng Shui the speculative average height around here for both genders is between 5’3” and 5’10” when not including hair. Let’s try keeping characters within that range when possible. Canon-wise we have this lovely height comparison character for Aang, Azula and Zuko. This has been useful in judging heights in the Avaverse when it comes to people of similar age groups. You can clearly see that the lines going horizontally across the chart represent feet. 1 foot, 2 feet, 3 feet, 4 feet, 4.5 feet, 5 feet and 6 feet. Zuko is around 5'3 - 5'5 feet tall. Azula is a few inches shorter at probably 5'1-5'3 without her topknot. Aang looks to be 4'5. And we have further reference help for you too for helping you grasp the average weight, height look and body frame of whatever character you are attempting to create.
