He nodded as he listened to her response, it was pretty much what he had expected. A newborn crying a lot, not exactly surprising. Judging by her tone, though, he figured that was what she was doing before she found him, escaping from the noise. He tried to remember to when Ookami was little and whether or not he cried a lot. He couldn't remember, but it was to be expected, it was a long time ago. "Well, I can't really relate, but from what my parents say, I cried a lot as a baby too."
He then saw her grimace, confirming his suspicion that she was escaping the noise. He listened to her inquiry with a bland look on his face. He didn't really remember saying anything about his family having troubles, but maybe she just meant the whole 'repairing the city' troubles. "Well, as for the repairs, our house didn't get a lot of damage, and it is repaired now, so that is fine. But my brother, Nu-Doru, left home awhile and I think he should be here for this.."

"You cried in the cave." With a grin she found another weak spot in his manhood, being a small girl she enjoyed poking peoples weaknesses, crying when other people found hers, it was the sweet double-standard that she enjoyed so much. Her big blue eyes and innocent gaze betrayed her slightly malicious quirks, usually she was quiet and reserved but she knew Hebirei, that was the main difference. With people she knew and felt comfortable with the skittish little girl turned into a little trickster.
Her hands found themselves behind her back again she she smiled brightly resting her shoulder against her cheek doing her best to look adorable with a flutter of her eyes. " So, your about the age when my brother was going gaga over girls, do you have a girl you like?" Skipping the formalities she pushed into a conversation that would surely embarrass the teen, idly she thought about her current crush. Kiirun he was a water bender, only a year older than her, the other day when they were playing she fell on top of him and her lips accidentally touched his cheek, she hadn't stopped thinking about it since.

He couldn't help but be surprised at Hotaru's jab at his pride. He turned to look at her, and she seemed as content as ever, as if she hadn't said anything. He silently returned to that scene in the cave, remembering why he had cried. He was missing his brothers at the time, but it's not like he was a manly-man sort of person. Still, Hotaru always seemed just a sweet girl, not someone who could change personalities like that. But, a sweet-hearted girl would be the perfect cover for something like that. He had trouble responding to her pride-killing comment, so he just answered truthfully. "Well, it's not like I was the only one, besides, you would cry too if your little brother was killed and your older brother left home."
He felt that he might have been too cold, but he had to tell the truth, it did help him to say it out loud to somebody else. Then, she suddenly changed the subject, it was like she was trying to embarrass him. He was still a little bitter about the last comment, but it would be a terrible thing for him to take it out on her, so, in a playful voice, he said "Well, not really, but what about you? Do you have any crushes? I would imagine that, seeing the expression that was on your face, you were thinking about him just now." His words surprised himself a bit, he usually couldn't read people all that well, but he could, of course, be totally wrong, and that would just hurt his pride some more.

Hotaru mused over a few of the girls she thought to be about Hebirei's age, there was a weird girl who came into town with her dog, the girl with ponytail on the side, another who worked with the stuffy nobles in the upper parts of the city. Honestly she couldn't name any of them right now. He'd know a lot better than she would. Keeping up her bouncy pace she watched the older boys eyes curiously. Tilting her head to the side she pouted a bit, she didn't know the exact terms of his depression in the cave, he said he didn't want to be near his family right then so she assumed he was fighting, how was she supposed to know it was something bigger than that.
With a small pout she looked away wanting to return to her lighter jesting, she enjoyed that, he could fight her back a little bit, too much and she'd get upset. Still she knew it wasn't fair on some level, which was why she enjoyed it, it was like getting to open your presents a day before the day they were supposed to be given. It was fun.
Eager to return to the more lighthearted half of the conversation she looked back to Hebirei blushing lightly, well she was thinking about a boy, but her crushes were quick and fleeting, as of now she hadn't found a boy who liked her back. Her father teasingly called her a flirt when he saw her mulling over her newest obsession, only to have it change in a weeks time. He knew that she wouldn't be hard to marry off. Hotaru disagreed but either way it was a line of sunshine to her parents. That Hotaru was so resilient. " One, I think I kissed him the other day..... but I don't know if it counts or not..." She blushed a bit more going back to the tumbling in the snow the other day, he might not have thought anything of it. She on the other hand would be thinking about it for a few weeks.

As he walked along the path, Hebirei silently toyed with the notion that there was somebody out there meant just for him. He never really thought much about it, which suddenly struck him as strange, being that he spent most of his time healing with the women. There was only one answer, but he shooed it away, realizing that he was just being silly, and that he was just working too hard to get involved in a relationship. After all, when you are the only male healer, you feel a great need to prove yourself, that doesn’t leave much time for love. Then he looked over to Hotaru, noticed that she was pouting, and he suddenly felt guilty. He knew that was going to happen, but he hoped that it wouldn’t, he had been too cold.
Luckily, though, her response to the lighter side of the conversation diminished his guilt, and he nodded silently while she spoke. He was right after all, she was crushing on somebody. Not that it really mattered to him, he was just trying to take the spotlight off of himself, and it worked perfectly. He heard her comment about whether or not the kiss counts or not and he was slightly intrigued, so he asked. “What do you mean ‘I don’t know if it counts or not’? Either it does or it doesn’t, I don’t really see a gray area…” Hebirei couldn’t help but notice that they had circled the same row of houses a large number of times by now, he should be getting home soon. He wasn’t about to cut off their conversation just for that, but he would have to say something sooner or later.

Hotaru looked down flushing a little bit, she was actually rather happy about getting this out, who could she tell? Her girlfriends would tease her relentlessly, make her talk to the boy or hold his hand, something like that, it'd be much too embarrassing. Her parents would want to meet his parents, Kaiden would taunt her, Mica would smile and say thats nice, they were too busy with the silly little baby. Thinking back she didn't think they adults could pay less attention to her, now she knew it was a stupid thing to think. Now she almost didn't exsist in the household. There was just the baby and his parents, no room for his older cousin, his fathers niece. It was annoying, but she shook her head, fussing over that wouldn't change it.
Her eyes glanced over at Hebirei, she wondered why boys were so dense. You can almost kiss someone or not kiss them, any number of things, like you can hate a person and like them at the same time. It made perfect sense to her. She pouted taking a more serious expression, as if to prove her point she rolled her eyes huffing and looking away acting like he was the dumbest boy ever. " I tripped and I accidentally kissed his cheek, it might not count, I don't think he thinks it does but I think it might but I don't know." Her pout lingered for a while. She wished he'd talk to her about it. Though knowing her she'd run away if he tried, she got nervous around people she liked.

He couldn't help but be amused at her innocence. As he strolled down the lane, he silently considered what he would think if he were in the boy's situation. "If it was me, I would probably not think much of it, unless I liked you too, in which case, I would be obsessing over it. Even then, though, it's a slim chance. I mean, you could have tripped and kissed his arm, and that wouldn't have meant anything." Hebirei then turned his head away, not expecting a good response from Hotaru. When girls find out that their crush doesn't like them back, the results usually aren't good. In order to protect himself from this, Hebirei added "But, I really don't know, I am just making a guess."
He then looked up at the sky, noticed the position of the sun, and said to Hotaru "Um.. I really must get home, my parents are pretty protective of me, it's annoying... If you want to continue to walk with me home, feel free, but it isn't far."

Hotaru inclined her head towards Hebirei idly, maybe she was making a big deal out of it, this made her eyebrows furrow lightly though, she was so worried about it. Things were hard to look at in retrospect especially when she was thinking about this so much. Her hands fiddgeted with one another bare and pink to the air, looking down she pouted and tried not to think about it. Still she liked him, maybe she could ask his friends if he was talking about. That would mean he thought it was more than an accident right? Perhaps the older boy gave her more advice than he intended. The more she mulled it over the more it made sense.
Her caught her idle minds attention once again as he mentioned going home " Are you sure you're okay?" Hotaru flushed a bit, of course he was, he'd been walking with her all this time and has had little to no problem, she shouldn't be so silly. Hopping up next to the teen she threw her arms around him in a small friendly hug before running off in the other direction, towards the training grounds. Glancing back she smiled and extended her arm in a wave. " Bye bye! and thank you!"

A smile slowly spread across Hebirei's face as he listened to her asking if she was okay. She was a typical little girl, always acting so silly. He couldn't help but blush, though, when she hugged him out of nowhere. He should have expected it, but for some reason, he didn't. As he saw her run the other way, he couldn't help but sigh. "Sometimes I wish I were a rock, they get all the good luck." As he started to stroll home, he couldn't help but mutter things like this to himself. "Geez, why do my parents have to be so protective? That conversation was finally getting interesting."
He kept a steady pace on his way home, he wasn't going to be late, he was sure. He was being so anal about being home on time, it turned out he was going to be early. He decided to take his time, so he made a few detours on the way home. He surveyed the many damaged houses on his way, most of it had been repaired, which was good. In a few weeks, the Tribe should be back to its regular routines. He sighed, it was all going to become repetitive again...
