Hotaru blushed as the girl giggled at her and she began to figet, she was horribly self conscious, it wasn't fun to be laughed at, even in a light hearted manner. She nodded to the older girl keeping her eyes trained down only affording the older girl a glance now and then to check, make sure she wasn't upset at her. " My Uncle used ta tease me about crying a lot...." Her voice came out rather meekly, a little above a whisper, she glanced up once more at the girl, the tears on her cheeks now were all but dry, her eyes raw from rubbing them were starting to settle down and loose the puffy appearance.
Her hands wrung one another in her mittens and her head turned to the training grounds, she'd thought she'd seen master Pakku, maybe he'd know which way the boy'd gone. Without much of a warning Hotaru started to plod along the ground towards the training fields, the pleat of a ponytail against the back of her head bouncing all the way. She looked about, nearly stumbled a few times and wound up standing on the training grounds in the middle, it crossed her mind once or twice, that this was one of the first times she'd been down here. She figured she had an excuse but there was still a small fear she'd get shooed off.
Finally the girl spotted someone familure, she let out a small smile tossing aside her worries and nervousness plodding over to Hebirei. " Hebi!" She ran over to him and grinned brighter, he was one of the few people she'd gotten to know enough about that she wasn't a little nervous mouse around him. " Hi!"

Haukea was truly grateful when Hotaru's tears ceased. Such a cute little girl! And how did she come by such pale skin! The teen tilted her head, causing one of her sepia braids to slip from her shoulder, regarding Hotaru curiously as the child looked around. And then those caroline blue eyes of hers widened as the girl took off.
"Oh, Hotaru wait!" Haukea exclaimed, rising to her feet.
Her sealskin boots hit the ground running as she followed the young girl to the training grounds. The skirt of her brocade gown swung with her gait, the hood on her parka bouncing as it hung down her back. A mittoned hand rose to clasp at her shawl, lest it come off in her sprint.
Pika's expression was smug as he watched his future brother in law...up until the young man went and popped himself in the forehead. Pika resisted the urge to berate him right there...though the words were blistering on his tongue, just waiting to be voiced.
"Are we finally done?"
Before he could answer, a child's voice broke out with a cheerful, "Hebi! Hi!"
The youngest Harta son turned his head as a young girl, probably no more than maybe 10 or 12 came running up to Hebirei. Following behind the girl was Haukea, his younger sister...who looked to be a bit out of breath from the run.
Though Pika would've liked to torture Hebirei some more, he wasn't about to do it in front of the child, nor in front of his sister. So, with a bit of a dismissive gesture, he said:
"That's all for today. Be here at sun up tomorrow. And don't be late."
The jerk that had been making Hebirei's morning miserable turned then and gave a broad friendly smile to Haukea. When the scrawny petite teen made it to her brother's side, she leaned forward and breathed heavily. After a moment or two, she smiled.
"There you are Pika. Mother sent me to find you. She-"
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a very tired and disgruntled looking Hebirei. Haukea straightened herself, her hands moving to subconciously fidget with a braid.
"Oh, hi Hebi," she greeted her betrothed...in a tone that was very bright and sunny indeed.

Hebirei was so eager to hear Pika’s dismissal, but when he opened his mouth, he heard a very high-pitched voice scream his name. For a moment he was disoriented and he thought that Pika had said it. But then, he recognized the voice as Hotaru’s, and patted her on the head. “Hi, Taru. And yeah, if you abbreviate my name, I’ll do the same to you.” He then gave her a big smile. Her youthful energy and optimism was radiating onto him, but he did find it strange that her hair was wet, and ended up dismissing it. Just as he was about to address Pika again, he saw someone else running toward him out of the corner of his eye.
He turned to see it was his soon-to-be wife. As if he wasn’t happy to see someone else than Pika, he also got to see the girl he was actually starting to at least befriend. He gave a huge smile, and an even huger one once Pika said that they were done. He gave a huge sigh, walked over to Haukea, and said, “You’re right, I like him already.” He then shot Pika a look that said, ‘Yeah, I get your sister’. He was really starting to get bitter, something he didn’t get often. Then, he grabbed Haukea’s hand and turned his head to Pika, “Sure, sure, I’ll be sure to be here tomorrow, you just be ready.”

She smiled pleasantly at the teen, she was rather fond of him, he was nice, a little odd but he'd helped her, she'd done the same, as far as she was concerned they were friends. There were never too many friends to be had. She giggled a bit at his new nickname for her, it wasn't the first time she was called that, her uncle used to call her Taru, well until he got lame. She put her hands behind her back and beamed closing her eyes happily. She viewed him as a near older brother, well anyone in the tribe older than her was viewed in the same manner to her, it was nothing new. After her family reformatted she needed some new people to look up to, speaking of...
Hotaru plodded over to the pair of teens eying Pika curiously, something about him rubbed her the wrong way, something else about him forced her cheeks to turn red and her body to move it's self behind Hebirei. Now she noticed something odd, that the new girl and Hebirei were standing oddly close to one another, were they. Her eyes widened a bit. She tugged on Hebirei's shirt lightly, she'd heard something about a couple getting engaged, she didn't take note of the names. " Hey, is she your girlfriend?"

Pika, youngest of the Harta sons, said nothing as his sister greeted her fiancee cheerfully. His carolina blue eyes stared rather coolly at Hebirei, watching as the boy took Haukea's hand. Normally, the young man was rather easy going. When it came to his new brother in law however, that laid back side normally displayed seemed to dissipate.
"You're right, I like him already."
The comment caused his brow to arch slightly. What had Haukea said about him? Knowing his sister, whatever she said was glowing. She tended to play up the best about him, overlooking his faults. The look that Hebirei sent his way certainly wasn't lost, and he had to resist the urge not to put the whelp in his place. He took a deep breath however, and let it go. It would upset Haukea to no end if he were to get into a fight with the teen. Aside from that, the little girl seemed timid enough as the pale skinned thing hid behind Hebirei.
"Hey, is she your girlfriend?"
Pika almost started to laugh, but he quickly brought a gloved hand up and covered his mirth with a few careful coughs. There was a sparkle of amusement to his eyes, and the smile that normally graced his pale brown returned for the first time since he'd started this first lesson with Hebirei.
"Little one," he started, referring to her as such since he didn't know the girl's real name, "she is his fiancee."

“Hi, Taru. And yeah, if you abbreviate my name, I’ll do the same to you.”
Haukea tilted her head, a curious expression crossing her features. Hotaru and Hebi knew each other? She didn't know that. She felt nervous butterflies form in her stomach as her fiancee walked toward her. Though they had gotten to talk to each other a bit the other night, they were still, for the most part, utter strangers. She knew so very little about him, and he certainly didn't know much about her. Hopefully that would change as the wedding date grew near. It would be nice to at least know her fiancee a bit better before they officially tied the knot at the Spirit Oasis.
If it were possible, Haukea's smile would brighten even further as Hebirei spoke.
"You're right, I like him already."
"I told you that you would!" she replied quickly, with a bit of a giggle. "Isn't Pika the greatest?"
The teenager didn't catch the look sent her brother's way...and even if she had, it would be doubtful if she would be able to discern the truth behind it. As far as she could see, the first meeting between her brother (the most precious person to her in the world) and her husband to be had gone swimmingly!
As they hands touched, Haukea felt the butterflies forming again. Would it always be like that? That flush of nervous energy when-
" Hey, is she your girlfriend?"
At first, all Haukea could do was blink. Pika let out a bit of a cough, and thankfully supplied an answer for her. She smiled at Hotaru, and continued where her brother had left off.
"Hebi and I are getting married, very soon."

Hebirei slowly turned to Pika and felt a small bit of his anger dissipate as he mentioned the engagement. The engagement wasn’t something that really got on his nerves, but if Pika said anything else at this point, he didn’t know what would happen. He really had to get away from this guy, lest a huge fight break out. He chuckled as he wondered what Hotaru would do if he suddenly moved, exposing her to Pika. Just as he was thinking of that, Hotaru piped up and Hebirei merely nodded and said, “Yup, our parents told us of our arranged marriage just the other day.”
He turned to his fiance, trying to ignore Pika if at all possible and said, “Here, let us get out of here, I am tired and I want to get to know you better.” He then took her hand and started to lead her away from Hotaru and Pika. He knew it would do Pika and himself some good if they were separated for awhile. Perhaps tomorrow he wouldn’t be such a hardass… “So, what have you been doing all day?” He was trying to sound genuinely interested, even though he really wasn't.
(Sorry, meant to say that Hebi is outie)

Pika didn't comment as both his younger sister and then Hebirei answered the girl. The tension between the two young men was palpable though. You could practically cut it with a knife it was so thick. His caroline blues narrowed sharply, as Hebirei spoke:
“Here, let us get out of here, I am tired and I want to get to know you better."
Any other man in his position? Given the tone in which it was said, the manner in which Hebirei carried himself? Would probably have knocked the young twerp's teeth down his throat. Pika wasn't like most men though...a good thing for Hebirei. He wasn't looking forward to walking to his parents home, listening as that little snot conversed with his sister.
"Harta!" an older gentleman's voice hollered from behind them.
His bistre shaded locks rustled a bit as Pika turned to the voice. It was one of the older waterbenders, who from the looks of him had been working on repairs. He was out of breath, his cheeks flushed, and it was obvious the man had been running the whole way.
"They need an extra man to help with repairs over at the prison. Let's go," the man said between breaths.
Pika sighed...he hated the repair work. It was dull, boring...but it would give him a chance to rid himself of Hebirei for a bit. The youngest Harta son turned, and managed to paste a sheepish looking smile. It certainly wasn't for the benefit of his soon to be brother in law. It was for Haukea's sake and hers alone.
"Well, looks like you'll have to go on and have lunch without me. You two have fun."
Pika leaned in and ruffled his sister's hair playfully, and then turned to leave the training grounds. He offered a lazy wave good bye, before jaunting across one of many bridges that criss crossed over the series of canals that ran through Shai City.

Haukea blinked, a little confused as Hebirei began to lead her away from Hotaru and from Pika. Wait...she'd come looking for Pika for a reason, hadn't she? What was it again? Her brow furrowed as she struggled to remember. Luckily, her brother's response jogged her memory. She pouted a little as Pika left, beckoned away by another waterbender.
"Oh...alright. Bye Pika! See you tonight at home!" she shouted after him, waving to his retreating back.
Haukea paused briefly as she offered a smile to little Hotaru, "Goodbye, Hotaru. It was nice to meet you!"
The petite girl then fell into step beside her fiancee. Her strides were a bit quicker, due to the height difference between the two. Nervousness bubbled in her...and the minute she opened her mouth, the babbling began.
"Well, today was my day off. See, I work at the archives 5 days a week, although I've been working a lot more than that helping put the archives back in order after the seige and all. So mom's had me up and down the market place to day, looking at fabric scrapes. it's was sooo boring! I had to look at so many different shades of blue, they all sorta just started running together after the first like hour or so..."
And on she droned as they descended a series of stairs that led them down to a lower street.
