Ukaleq's face paled, though with her dark skin it was hard to see the color draining. Her eyes were wide, rimmed with dark lashes, like a paniced buffalo elf. Her gloved hands, mittens really, tightened on the hide pouch that held her leaves, holding it tightly to her chest. She dropped her eyes after a moment, bitting her lower lip for a moment before bowing to the stranger. Her bow was of medium lenght, a mere 45 degrees because she was unaware of the man's status compare to her own, and it was only proper to give a respectful bow.
The ivory charms on her parka swung foreward, the three slender strands of fur swinging froward from her chest. Loops of braided, russet colored hair fell from her shoulders to brush her cheeks, ribbons of ultramarine curled around the braids at her cheeks. Her voice was soft, delicate and hard to hear.. her body langauge was tense, and cautious, not at all at ease.
"I am Ukaleq Ulloriaq, daughter of Cheiftain Qillaq Ulloriaq.." The water tribe man would know the name of the Cheiftain, there were a number of the in Shai City, remnants of the once seperated Northern Water Tribes before they were all united in one city. The Cheiftains were under the Tribal cheif, and in symbolism, governed small 'villages' within the city, but they served more as an advisory council to Cheif Arnook. Though the Cheiftains no longer ruled, they were still seen as nobility of the tribe.

A little ways from the center of Shai City, several bundled-up figures stood in a doorway, huddled together. The snow had picked up just a bit, enough for the figures to start grumbling about the weather. This group was the hunters of the tribe, in charge of finding food and pelts for the city. Of course, they weren't the only group, there were many more. Though, it is said that the different groups don't get along very easily.
Among the group of sturdy, tall men, there was a female body, easily picked out because of her short stature, and the way that her parka fit to her body. She fussed a bit as the man next to her, Ryoza, gave her a rather painful noogie, thinking of the girl as more like a daughter than a co-worker. Yosei pushed away, escaping the noogie that had knocked her fur-lined hood back, allowing her rich, chocolate brown hair to escape, warmth that had built up around the back of her neck was dashed away by the wind. She grunted, shoving the hood back on and glaring up angrily at Ryoza with her baby blue eyes. The glare turned into a staring match between the two, until finally Yosei turned away. The men laughed, shaking their heads in amusement. One of the younger men, one who's name Yosei did not know, stepped towards her, carrying the wooden dummy that the Healer Yugoda oft used for her healing lessons with the little ones. Yosei sighed noisily, taking the dummy and heaving it up her arm. The group had used it with the several water benders that they had, practicing their healing. The water benders had already learned how to heal, yes, they were just practicing quick healing. "Every time you water benders practice with this thing, I'm always the one to bring it back to Yugoda." Yosei grumbled a bit, though fakily. She didn't mind seeing the healer. The old woman managed to calm her nerves a bit every time she saw her.
Yosei walked on, waving lazily as she turned the corner. After a few paces, she began to feel the weight of the dummy. "Stupid thing..." She muttered, stopping short and setting it down. She looked around for a moment, and hailed a gondola. As long as she was going to haul the wretched thing along with her, she might as well make it easy for her.
A few minutes of small talk with the boats man later, and Yosei stepped off near the healing hut. She turned, paying the man quickly, and taking hold of the dummy. As she lugged it along, weaving between groups of small children running about, she wondered why on earth the water benders didn't come here to practice. Yosei let the thought go as she pushed back the fur doorway.
She stood silent for a moment, letting her eyes adjust to the relative darkness of the hut. When they did, she raised an eye, seeing the small crowd of people already there. She stood in the doorway for a few seconds more before taking a tentative step farther into the hut, nearly dragging the dummy across the floor. "Yagoda..." She started, speaking quietly and bowing respectfully. While she did, she glanced around at the other inhabitants. Two men and a women. One of them was absolutely filthy...but the other two weren't. An Earth Kingdom man, she guessed, straightening back up. She watched him closely, studying him through the locks of hair that had swung conveniently into her eyes. After a moment, she pushed her hood back, and wiped a bit of snow from her parka. She'd set the dummy down while she'd done this, then looked around for a place for it to go. "The water benders are idiots...I don't know why they make me take this thing back to you every time..." She grumbled a bit, but smiled a little at Yugoda.

Lim Singh would have rolled his eyes if they were open enough to be worth rolling. Here was another person with their fancy talk, or as he liked to call talking out your backside. It was obvious the man’s choice of words was not intended to impress him. What honor would it be to know his name? No, the choice of words was made to sound good in front of the female. His hand raising to reach over his shoulder to scratch the top of his back as Ukaleq spoke her name.
Lim Singh for the most part was still thinking of whether to speak his name or not to. It wasn’t his choice of words that put him off. It was natural for a man to try and impress a woman, that much he could understand. It was asking for something without offering anything himself. He didn’t know much about manners but he knew it was proper to introduce yourself before asking the names of other people. He told Ukaleq his name because she helped him find the healer’s hut, and Healer Yugoda was the healer who was available to help him if he needed it. This man though did nothing for him and well, he didn’t see much purpose in sharing his name.
“I don’t know what honor it’ll do you...” he said as Ukaleq finished her introduction. Words pausing as yet another person entered the hut. Casting a casual glance over in her direction then back at the man he was speaking to he decided there was no purpose in sharing his name, but no real reason to withhold it either. “...but my name is Lim Singh”
His eyes falling back on the woman who just entered as he too had a curtain of locks to cover already lidded eyes. Looking her over more intently now with the occasional comparative glance over to Ukaleq, but the bulk of his attention was on the mannequin she carried in.

Amitolo’s eyes widened just slightly as the woman, Ukaleq, mentioned that she was a part of the Ulloriaq family. Before opening his mouth, he first gather Lim’s name, for courtesy. Amitolo decided to make his mind known, “The Ulloriaq family?” Amitolo said respectably, “It’s a pleasure to meet you.” Amitolo rolled his lip in, giving it a small bit before speaking again, “I am sorry, but I don’t honestly think I have introduced myself. My name is Amitolo Rai.” Amitolo felt he did not have to say much more about his name. There was only one Rai family, although it was quite extended across the water tribe. They were deeply respected, being that many of the males were admirals in the Water Tribe’s army, and two of the women’s lines came from past avatars.
Amitolo put a hand gingerly on Ukaleq. He did not know why, but he had an uncanny ability to calm people down. It was at this time that yet another entered the hut. It was getting quite crowded. Amitolo had seen this new girl before; he recalled she was a hunter of the Water Tribe. The first woman hunter, he remembered hearing her name was Yosai, as the two never actually spoke before. Amitolo turned his attention back to Ukaleq. In doing so, his eyes quickly shifted to her neck, where he saw no betrothal necklace hanging. Amitolo was actually surprised, the woman looked older than 16, at least by a year. Amitolo began to speak, but he didn’t quite know how to phrase what he was going to say. “Ukaleq,” he started, “Why aren’t you engaged yet, if not married. Which male would turn you down?” The pink color in Amitolo’s cheeks promptly returned, followed by a long pause, he realized then that there were other people in the room. “Lim,” Amitolo said, trying to break the silence, “You seem like a decent man, what caused you to leave you home?”

Ukaleq recoiled from Amitolo's touch, holding her package tight against her parka. Her eyes darted about as she looked for a way out.. now another person was coming into the hut! Ukaleq did not answer Amitolo, remaining silent as she sheilded away. The young woman glanced between the faces, settling on Healer Yugoda's noting the panic in the young woman's face. The Healer quickly approached the woman and placed her hands on her shoulders, steering her around the men. "Now Ukaleq.. you should run those leaves home for your mother. Be careful now dear.." Given the opprotunity, Ukaleq would nod with only the smallest amount of a noise to Yugoda, grateful for the woman for pushing her towards the door. The grey-haired healer gave Amitolo a glance, and spoke in a scolding tone to him. "Perhaps Ukaleq has just not found the right suitor, Sir.." And maybe you should keep your thoughts on more than just bare necks? Yugoda thought, still bitterly sore over her childhood best friend's Kana's sudden departure when Pakku had proposed to her. Though Yugoda had married her first suitor, she had fallen in love him.. unlike Kana with Pakku. She patted Ukaleq's shoulders as the young woman turned back to Yugoda at the door. "Go on dear. Hello there Yosei.. just bring that right inhere and over to the pool." While Yugoda let Ukaleq leave, she turned to Yosei and helped jostled the life-size dummy to the pole. "Now.. Amitolo.. you can place that package over on the table over there, and Lim.. well.. Is there anything I can help you with? A parka perhaps?"
Ukaleq walked swiftly from the hut, finally able to breath ease out in the streets. Her steps were quick, a jog that kicked up her cream colored skirts as she ran. She dropped her head, her braids swinging as she closed her eyes tightly to fight off the disturbing anxiety sickness in her stomach. She would lie down when she got home..

Yosei half-ignored the going ons around her, only choosing to step aside as the woman she'd heard to be Ukaleq left in quite a hurry. She glanced back at the door, seeing the snow fall outside. She grumbled quietly to herself, biting her lip absently. She felt awkward, standing there. Like always, Yosei felt as if she was simply the quiet backdrop when it came to a group of people. She didn't care that much, supposing it didn't matter, anyway. Gingerly, she tugged off one of her mitten-gloves, inspecting it closely. It seemed as if Yosei's ears shut off to the world around her as she carefully pulled a small splinter from her glove. Studying it for a moment, she let out a small grunt, and flicked it over her shoulder before going to help Yugoda. The dummy proved to be a formidable opponent. Clearly, it wished not to be put away. After a few moments of quiet cursing and shoving, Healer Yugoda and Yosei had successfully put it in it's place. Brow furrowed, Yosei gave the thing one last kick before leaving it alone and walking away from it, returning more or less to the spot she'd stood before.
Standing silent for a moment, Yosei turned to Amitolo and bowed respectfully, and trying at the same time to brush the bangs from her eyes. It looked rather odd...like a blind bearded cat trying to swipe at it's prey. She stood, looking at him cautiously. Since she had never interacted with this Amitolo before, she really didn't have much to say. Except for small talk. "It's snowing." She said bluntly, glancing over at the door for emphasis. "Hopefully it won't get too cold tonight, otherwise the Tribe will have the one and only frozen Earth Kingdom sickle!" Yosei tried to make a joke, turning and looking over at said man. She honestly did try and make a joke, and failed. She beat herself mentally, asking herself why she had said something so incredibly stupid. At least she hadn't gone and rambled on about how the snow would effect the fish or the other animals. Somebody would've had to hit her upside the head for her to stop.

The other man in the room certainly asked a lot of nosey questions. Like an old hen pecking his way into other people’s business. What ever happened to a simple plain hello how are you doing or what do you think of this fine weather we’re having. Not accustomed to the ways of the Northern Water Tribe he found it odd that the man would bother such a young lady by questioning her marital status. Even if it was normal that was very private information and if he wanted to know, he thought it would be a subject better discussed in private and not a room full of people.
Lim Singh shook his head at the man as even his lack of tact and manners was enough to know that he was out of place asking questions like that. Chuckling some to himself as it seemed that common sense in the Northern Water Tribe was a prodominately female trait. He himself took after Ukaleq and left the man’s question unanswered as he leaned away to the side to give the healer room to pass, but as it became clear she was running the young woman out of the hut he’d place a hand on Healer Yugoda’s shoulder.
“Wait...” he said in request, though falling quiet soon after. He didn’t thank the girl for showing him to the healer’s hut and he didn’t quite know how to say it. Sadly the words thank you were not apart of his vocabulary. Sighing he started to look around the room a bit before he started to scratch his head. He had nothing left to give that was of worth. ‘Umm, I just wanted to...” he mumbled to by himself some time to think, though it wasn’t too long until he finally got an idea.
Fingers moving through his hair, smiled some. “...give her this...” he said as he started to rake his fingers through his hair. Pulling some of the dirt and clay that held those locks together out into his palm. Folding his hands together palm over palm he started to push the clay and dirt together. A small deal of earthbending later he’d open his hands and present a small carved coin. It was a bronzed tone and had an almost glass like sheen to look like a dark polished marbled jade. The carving on the front of the coin was that of two penguins diving up out of the water. One was on the top of the coin diving to the left and the other was on the bottom diving to the right. Their curved bodies mirroring each other in a layout similar to the symbol of ying and yang. He wanted it to be something familiar and these were the only animals he had seen in the area as they swam next to the boat on the way there for a short moment in time.
He handed it to Healer Yugoda to give to Ukaleq in front of her before his hand moved back to his hair to smooth back out his locks. It wasn’t much, but he guessed it would make a nice charm to hold on to. Maybe even a good luck charm to aid in her sister’s recovery. And as Yugoda mentioned the dummy would need to be moved, Lim Singh himself would look around for this pool she spoke of before moving over to pick up the dummy. He was a guest here and being so he looked to make himself useful where he could.
“That’s okay, I’ll carry it...you just show me where it goes...” he said to Yosei, letting her lead the way as he lifted the dummy over his shoulder. On the way he heard something about him wanting a parka. He didn’t actually know what one was. He didn’t know what one was and after Yosei pointed out where it went and he laid it down in place he’d turn back to the old woman with a curious tilt of his head. “I don’t know....what’s a parka?” The other woman turning to talking to the other young man in the room as he spoke with Healer Yugoda, he’d catch ear to the attempt at a joke. He’d laugh some to himself, he didn’t freeze that easily, but still he shared her desire for the temperature to stay as warm as possible. He would have answered her attempt at a joke with one of his own if his attention wasn’t already on Healer Yugoda to tell him what the heck a parka was.

Amitolo didn’t react as his hand was brushed off, nor did he say anything as Ukaleq left. He immediately realized that his choices of words were not quite strung together in the way he had wanted them to be. Through his whole life, he had known women to be married at the age of 16, especially within those families of high nobility. To him, thought that something was wrong would obviously come to mind. Instead, by stringing the wring words together, he gave himself the image of, more or less a jerk. His head snapped to attention as the Healer Yugoda spoke to him. Silently, he nodded. His hand rummaged in his pocket. Only a few days before he had made a small ice culture in the form of the roses he heard in fables, as there were none growing here. In no way did it resemble the colors, but at least it looked beautiful. His hands grasped the small sculpture and he extended it to Yugota. “Healer, I also have a favor to ask of you,” he said, “Along with Lim’s token of appreciation, please give this to her. Tell her I am sorry for any offense, please.”
With this said, Amitolo walked out of the shop as well. He gave a weak smile at Yosei’s attempt at a jock, but said nothing more. He gave a friendly wave to Li, Yugota, and Yosei, but his face showed no expression of happiness. This incident reminded him of Pratika, and he knew he couldn’t be involved with another woman for some time now, as his heart mended. Once out of the hut, Amitolo took the direction opposite from the way Ukaleq had gone. He felt it better that he stay away for a little while, it would be better for the both of them. With one last look at the hut, Amitolo pulled out his list once more, to finish his errands for the day.

Watching as Amitolo left, Yosei raised an inquisitive eye. The man sure did have some odd quirks. She never really had met him before, at least, not on a personal level instead of just bowing respectfully, or even brushing past. Yosei was slightly glad that the man had paid less attention to her, and that the fur around the top of her parka covered the bare skin around her neck. She sure wouldn't want that fact about her be commented on. The other woman...Ukaleq, she must be mortified, or something of the matter. Perhaps the question had been worded wrong, but still...
Rubbing her hands together for a moment, Yosei slipped her mitten-gloves over them, some cold air having come into the hut after Amitolo left. Usually, she didn't mind the cold that much, seeing as she was out in it most of the day. She sighed silently, dreading the fact that she might be catching a cold. She hoped that she wasn't, there wasn't any time for it..
Yosei stood still for a moment, staring into space. She wondered when the Earth bender would leave the Northern Water Tribe, and as her thoughts strayed even more, she wondered if she could go there as well. Yosei had never been anywhere except for the frozen land she called home. After a moment, she snapped back to the present, watching the other young male from the back. As far as she could tell, Lim Singh seemed to be a pretty good example for the males of the Earth Kingdom, or at least..what she imagined them to be. Biting her lip, she suppressed a smile at Lim's question. It was hard not to consider it a stupid question, after all, all the people that Lim had seen here would've had a parka on. A moment later, the edges of her mouth lifted up and crinkled a bit into a smile. The thought of no one wearing parkas proved to be too idiotic for her to think about without smiling at it. The whole city would freeze if they dressed as Lim was....or stay inside all day and all night. She would wait for a while to ask him when his ship was going to sail out...
Healer Yugoda merely smiled after having taken both tokens from the men, slipping them into a well-disguised pocket, and proceded in explaining simply to Lim what a parka was, using her's as an example. "Animal furs are a neccesity if you want to stay warm up here." She said kindly, starting for a back room. She nearly always had an extra parka, incase anything happened to her own, or anyone who came to her in need of one. Shuffling away for a few moments, she came back with a parka of light blue color, the fur around the edge of the collar and the sleeves was near white, flecks of grey dotting it's surface. "I wasn't sure if this blue was your color or not..." She teased a little, holding it out to see if it would be big enough for Lim.

Ukaleq began to breath normally and her body began to relax. Her dark skin became less flushed and her breath came in short spans rather than quick bursts into the chilled air. She lifted a mitten clad hand to her face, touching her own cheek in mild disbelief. It was so strange that so many people would show up at Healer Yugoda's... and that strange Earth Kingdom Man. What was he doing here? She dropped her arm and clutched her small pouch to her chest with her arms. The Parkas of the Water Tribes were amazingly warm, able to withstand the coldest winds the Ocean could hurl at them. They kept the people warm and dry, allowing for them to leave their homes and explore the outdoors. She hurried up the snowy steps, grasping her skirts with a free hand as she jogged through the nearly empty streets. She was almost home. Ukaleq's thoughts strayed back to Amitolo's comment. And She frowned, her brows knitted in confusion as she slowed to a walk. Was it so wrong for her not to be betrothed at her age? She did not desire it much. Certainly, she wanted to make her family proud, but.. she had no yet met anyone who captured her interest. No one had made offers of necklaces to her either. One or two had tried to court Her.. but eventually they left, disatisfied. Ukaleq bit her lower lip and resumed her jog again. Anything to get away..

He didn't know what was so funny as Healer Yugoda went to go get him a parka while she explained what a parka actually was. A sideways glance to passing over to Yosei and back towards where the older woman went off to. He was a bit cold but not to the point of freezing. That layer of dirt and earth on his body had much more purpose than to make him look handsome. Scattered layers able to move and shift to create not only cover from the wind but friction to generate a decent amount of heat. Still, it was nothing compaired to the harsh climate of the north pole, but if he was indoors like he was now or just spending short ammounts of time outside he'd be just fine.
However, why settle for just fine when he could be quite cozy. The idea of a coat of some sort was appealling, but as Healer Yugoda came out with one of her spare parka. Admittingly blue was definitely not his color, but what caught his eye the most was the white.
"You would happen to have anything....older..." he said. It looked awefully clean and he didn't want to get it dirty if he didn't need to. Brow arching under the cover of those hanging locks as she held the parka up to check its size compaired to his. ".....or bigger?"
Lim Singh wasn't exactly a small young man. He had wide set shoulders and stood taller than most, especially compaired to the spare parka of this old woman. Though the full length parka would make a nice mid-sized jacket, it would be a tight fit across his broad back. And the fact that it was blue didn't hurt is reluctances to accept the parka.

As she held it up to the man, Yugoda chuckled to herself, putting a hand to her mouth. The parka would indeed be small for him, much to small to be comfortable. "I suppose I should want my parka back in one piece..." She joked, folding it over her arm once. Slowly, she walked around Lim, carefully assessing how broad his shoulders were, his back, and judging his height. "If I gave this one to you, you'd probably rip it at the seams when you lifted your arms!" Yugoda teased lightly, smiling softly as she came to a halt in front of him again. "I'm afraid I don't have an extra parka in your size, Lim Singh. Perhaps..."
Yosei had drifted off into daydream land, and was ripped from it as Yugoda put a hand on her shoulder. Yosei twitched slightly, looking at the healer with curiosity reflecting in her crystal blue eyes. "I'm sure your Ryoza has an extra parka.....I should hope." She said softly, realizing that Yosei had zoned. She nodded slowly, glancing at Lim quickly before looking at Yugoda again. "They're about the same sort of broadness..." She said quietly, her hands clasped together.
"There, Lim, you can follow Yosei here to get a parka that will fit. And I'm sure it'll be old enough for you..." Yugoda put her hands in her sleeves, the edges of her mouth crinkling nicely as she smiled. Yosei tilted her head at the healer, then looked at Lim. She tugged on the end of the stray hair from one of her ponytails, and bit her lip lightly. "Ah....yes. Well..." She trailed off, bowing respectfully to Healer Yugoda before walking silently towards the door, adjusting her mitten-gloves carefully so that wind could not infiltrate a crack between the edge of the glove, and the edge of the sleeve.

Amitolo sighed as he walked across the frozen town known as Shai City. His mind kept repeating the topics of the day and no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t focus on anything else. He let out a large sigh, as his cheeks puffed and then deflated once again. After about ten more minutes of pointless arguing within himself, he forced himself to at least try and find Ukaleq again, and apologize. His conscience would not let him do anything else. He waited on the banks of a canal, and a gondola soon came.
Now,he thought to himself, What was her family name again? Ah, yes Ulloriaq. He hurried himself into the gondola, paid his fare, and directed it towards the Ulloriaq grounds. Thankfully, they were well known, and the boatman was able to route the way. Amitolo hurried him, though it was a ways off, as Amitolo had walked quote far. His eyes scanned the surroundings, though the parka was much too common, and was not enough. Amitolo then remembered the hair; Ukaleq had hair unlike any other North Water Tribe member. Finally, after yet another three minutes of rowing, Amitolo found whom he thought he was looking for. He saw a reflection in an ice wall ahead, and knew it was she.
Amitolo walked behind her for a moment, before taking another deep breath, “Ukaleq?” he said, “It’s me again…Amitolo.” The young man continued speaking, because he knew it may have been the only chance he got, “If you were offended by anything I said earlier, please tell me. Don’t run away.” Amitolo looked to his side and found a small frost bench, and sat down, then put his hand to another seat, for Ukaleq. “Will it help if I said please?”

Not but a few feet from home, Ukaleq was once again interrupted. Her peers wondered why she never ventured outside of her home. You never bother someone who wants to left alone. That was courtesy. Yet, so was answering someone when they spoke. The woman turned around to face the man, who in her mind was already deemed a stalker. She lifted her face, strands of hair hanging around her moon shaped face, but the majority of her hair gathered into four loops, two of which hung over her shoulders. Thin petals of Cerulean fabric were spun into flowers, one placed at each ear, hid where the braids merged with the rest of her hair. The young woman visibly looked tired, her expression filled with the airs of a false, noble smile. "It is alright, Amitolo.. you were speaking the best intentions of the tribe. It is not right for a cheiftain's daughter to be unwed. I am, of course, unsuitable for a wife.." Her voice wavered a bit, though it was well hid by the breathlessness of her whispering voice. She turned her gaze away, keeping her hands within the sleeves of her parka against her torso. "I beg your leave, Sir.. my sister must have her medicine and I must return to my embroidery and singing. Good Afternoon." She would not sit with him, allowing him one of the lowest bows, one her rank could easily negate. It was a gesture of ultimate submission.. this tenative, uneasy woman, acknowledging her unusefulness as a potential wife. A chilly goodbye was accented by the cold shoulder she gave, quickly turning away and hastily walking towards the multi-storied complex of ice and snow buildings that made up the Ulloriaq family home.

Simply stood there as the old woman walked around him offering a scoff of a chuckle here and there at her comments. He could see where it was going even before the words left her mouth. He'd have to go some where else to find one that fits. He didn't really need one that badly but then it would be nice shielding from Hai Lin's little hands. He didn't know why but they gave him the creeps, they were so small and...pudgey. Always touching him, poking at him, pulling at his hair, grabbing at his hands, and overall just not giving him a moments rest.
Train of thought was abucted for a moment to think of the assault of little hands that awaited him. Mind falling back into the moment as Yosei moved towards the door. Grunting as the cold reminder of the wind's embrace waiting for him outside his hand would find his chest once again in another scratching of his chest. The movement stirring up the thin layer of earth to generate what heat he could before he moved to follow Yosei. His eyes growing narrow as he gazed at the wind as if staring into the eyes of a formittable enemy breaking away just long enough to bow his head in the direction of Healer Yugoda in a parting nod.
