Name: Teiú Pirangaetê (This name is written in the Tupi language, of an ancient Brasilian native tribe called Tupi. “Teiú” is hoe a certain type of lizard, native of Brasil, is called in this language. “Pirangaetê” derivate from two words, “Pitanga”, meaning red, and “etê”, a suffix meaning “Kind” (as alternative translation it can be understood as “honest”)
Age:[/b] 19
Gender: Male
Group: The Rebellion
Nation:[/b] Fire Nation (born at Yin Rei, lives at countryside)
Bender?: Yes
Physical Appearance:[/u]
Owner of a thin shape, Teiú reaches the board of 5,7 ft while weighting 146 pounds. His eyes, almost always kept mid-opened, bear two light brown irises, coloration very common among the people of his village. Over it Teiú bear thick eyebrows that, although having the said trait, do not meet each other and, over these, a big forehead. His nose is pointy, not being big, kept in the middle of two round cheeks. His mall chin is part of a rounded jaw, this making his face, at all, a rounded one. All this are in skin coloration very common to the ones of his country, making Teiú the average Fire Nation guy. In fact, Teiú’s appearance gives him a calm and naive appearance which, in part, perfectly reflects his personality.
Teiú’ most notable characteristic is over his head, though. The young has a long, smooth hair, colored in a Russet brown. Reaching the middle of his back it can usually be seen tied with two locks falling over its bearer’s face. Teiú, however, prefer to use it untied and he often does so at any time opportunity lets him do so. His physical preparation, emphasized at his military training hadn’t helped his muscles development much but Teiú can be one of great physical endure at certain activities like walks or long time resistance tests. However, the rebel will easily tire at any hard or abruptly physical task. Teiú’s hands and feet are slightly bigger than what would be normal for someone of his measures.
Clothing/Armor:
As a soldier Teiú has the standard firebender soldier’s armor and uniform but as he left home the only one he was carrying was his armor. This includes full chest protection with small shoulder pieces and groin protection. Also, his bracers were included. All pieces of the armor are painted in a Burgundy color without ornaments as usual for low rank soldiers. Under it Teiú wears common pieces of his restrict wardrobe, a long Carmine colored Kung-fu jacket with long sleeves, almost always maintained sleeve-raised. It has its buttons painted in an amber color, same shade in the ornaments at the jacket’s rims.
Over his waist a belt carries three small pockets and his MiaoDao’s hilt, made of a dark brown colored wood. Then Teiú wears a no ornaments pants of the same color of his jacket. These end getting inside his short boots, the right one containing a secret compartment for hiding a dagger. Teiú carries a backpack where he keeps some more clothes, a blanket, a box for storing food, a canteen of water, a notebook, some pencils, a needle and a black line, a piece of bandage and a picture painted at the base featuring him, Kai, Seung-Ha and the other 4 firebending students.
Weapons:[/u]
Teiú’s firebending skills are pretty reliable and can knock some opponents with some class. But this almost can’t curb the fact that Teiú’s fighting skills are horrible, considering that he is a soldier in training. Without firebend or a weapon he can knock down some civilians but, against a well-trained soldier he can’t do much of a thing. His fighting style is somewhat related to the Southern Dragon Claw kung-fu style but only in matters of technique. The philosophy of this style is not known or it is ignored by the young man.
When firebending, however, the Southern Dragon Claw style shows itself a lot more useful proving that Teiú’s training was planned to give extra focus in the firebend art. This leads to a point: in his fights Teiú have to count a lot more in his strategy than in his ability. Teiú’s firebend power is good, his blasts and fireballs are strong and his aim can’t be called a rookie’s one. However, Teiú’s lack of bare-hands fighting ability is something that can, easily, cost his life in a mortal battle.
Teiú’s blade, the MiaoDao (Miaodao picture): Once the blade of Teiú’s best friend, Kai, this sword is one of the best choices for Teiú’s main sword style, the Iaijutsu style (Iaijutsu sword style info), This one taught to Teiú by Kai’s father, Kangiro. With all the years of training Teiú got ability to do powerful defensive moves. His moves of the sword can be used as a great counterattack, when throwing a wave of fire with a sword swing, at a lot of enemies or a single foe. However, the “Sword of Iai” (as is know this technique) fails in one point: After it is unsheathed the Iaijutsu technique is useless since the great objective of this art is to do a single, powerful and fast blow. It is not a style suited to the battlefield but, however, it provides its owner great fighting power since it can transform, in a fast way, a defensive stance in an attack stance. But if the first attack doesn’t come to be successful the user of the blade may encounter serious problems.
This MiaoDao measures 66 cm (25,98 in) of length by the blade with precisely 27 cm (10,62 in) of hilt, made of almost pure steel. It glows silver by the blade. The hilt is made of wood covered with a tight skin of leather, used for not letting the sword slide from the user’s hand. Also, the sword has two inscriptions, each one in one side of the blade, at the beginning of it. One side says: “Pride of the Kasui”. The other side says a phrase used secretly by Kangiro: “freedom, peace and justice”. (details on background)
His other weapon is the dragon ornate dagger, earned by his childhood friend and love Seung-Ha, which Teiú carries on the right boot. This weapon is made of solid and awesome quality steel by the blade, which measures 14 cm (5,51 in) and a 10 cm (3,9 in) at the handle. Coming from the start of the handle is the carved bone made ornament of a dragon’s body. It have its tail coming from the start of the hilt then the dragon’s body shapes as a hand coming trough the handle and ends in the first 2 cm of the blade when having the head of the dragon biting the non cutting side of the dagger. The weapon is silver colored by the blade and white colored at the dragon’s body. It was given to him after Seung-Ha’s confused marriage proposal (details down there).
Personality:[/b]
Teiú’s family never was a wealthy one but in the other hand the love they gave to their child was something that even the biggest treasure of the world could not afford. This is what made of Teiú such a naïve one, not stupid, but quite naïve. His parents always taught him to be as polite as polite can be. These characteristics are what define Teiú as a likeable and kind person, very apt at attracting people and doing new friends. His trustworthy stance make of him the best companion to stand shoulder to shoulder.
Growing in a village that close to a military base have some consequences on a kid though. When as a child Teiú never understood why the people that worked so hard in the coalmines, near both the base and the village, was treated in a so unpleasant way by the base’s soldiers.
The village in which Teiú grew up, Xuan, was near a small forest by the west and some cliffs by the south. That natural environment surrounding the kid’s territory managed to create Teiú as a nature’s lover. After years around the forest Teiú came to a conclusion, a rule that he settled for himself: As in the nature, one must only kill when searching for food and/or protecting his territory, friends or himself. At the beginning of his school life (the school was placed at the base’s facilities) Teiú believed that the Fire Nation was right since what was said at the classes was that the other nations started havoc. Slightly, things started changing on his mind, as he was growing up. His life conditions, even he being one of the military, were quite bad. There was days when his family, composed of three persons, had to share the meal for one. And worse were conditions for the common peasants, not related to the army or the base itself. And as he became involved with the Kasui clan and their “rebel” ideas were reaching him Teiú realized his life and his family's life, as well as the one of his friends, was quite bad, way different than what he was learning in school. And every time Teiú laid eyes on the suffering of his people his hate for Ozai's governamental system, as well as the for hard ruling of captain Hara.
Teiú’s parents always taught to him to keep on the pursuit of knowledge. They explained him that the human being that closes himself to new wisdom and knowledge (as if this was possible) is a dead human being. His parents taught him too to be honest, “The truth is infinitely easier than the lie as it can’t worry you about doing the right thing”, as used to say Teiú’s mother.
Important thing to mention, Teiú suffer a heights phobia, at no high level as he can get near a cliff’s edge normally but he is not able to do something while in there such as fighting or even walking normally. Just to finish, Teiú have a passion for rain. He really likes to walk under it (rains, not stormy tornadoes). It weakens his firebend, that’s right, but makes Teiú feel like being one with the nature.
Background:
Born at the busy city of Yin Rei the young Teiú was brought by his parents to the small village of Xuan, near the west coast of the Fire Nation. Teiú’s parents believed that moving to there their son would have a peaceful and calm life… their guess was far from right. This base was settled there because of a military base that had been built on the region. The territory is not so strategically important but the base was built due the discovery of a coal mine. The principal function of the base is to keep war prisoners or arrested Fire Nation people working on the mine. Sometimes, however, troops that are moving from a city to another stop by the base to rest and take supplies, as well as leaving prisoners.
Teiú did studies at a military school, located at the base’s facilities, at the far eastern side of the village of Xuan. He had teachers of all disciplines a non-military student would have plus military strategy. When he reached the age of 9 he discovered his ability do firebend, while playing with the flame of a candle. When one of the soldiers of the base discovered the fact and told it to the base’s head officer. Teiú was obligated to join the special classes for firebenders, classes inflicted to every young firebender of the village, to form new soldiers for Fire Nation Army.
At the age of 10 Teiú was in the school and it was that time he started doing firebending classes. His (firebend) classroom included 7 students counting him, Kai and Seung-Ha.
Seung-Ha:
The ruler of the military base was (and still is) captain Hara Yonoi, a true-born leader. This said because Hara always was an excellent soldier and rarely regretted, in his life, of any of his decisions. His actions towards his territory were clear: Any signs of treachery, insubordination or disrespect would be punished with forced work in the coal mines. For resistance in prison or grave crimes against the Nation the punishment would be death. Captain Hara was the father of Seung-Ha, a beautiful (and Sueish) and smart girl that learned how to fight better than any of the other students of the base.
Her mother, captain Hara’s wife exists solely to care about the house on the base’s facilities, and she lives to obey Hara’s orders. Seung-Ha becomes Teiú’s girlfriend when he reaches the age of 17. As the daughter of the base’s captain and the way she was schooled he believes that the war was started by the other nations and she thinks that the right thing is to fight for the Fire Nation. Seung-Ha is kind and obedient.
Kai:
The ruler of the Kasui clan’s house was Kangiro Kasui, another true-born leader (more about him in “Brief history of Kasui clan”). Kangiro is father of Kaila Kasui, his first daughter, and Kai Kasui, his only son who share the same age of Teiú. Kai discovered soon that he could firebend and, despite all the efforts of his father to hide it from captain’s Hara’s eyes this fact was discovered. As it happened Kai, at the age of 10, started having firebending classes at the military base. There he met Teiú, the one who would become his best friend in the years that would follow.
…
Brief history of Kasui Clan
…
Before the discover of the coal mine in the mountains of Xuan, the Kasui clan was a small family of warriors that followed the once general Chu Ye Ling (for details about this cahracter, go for Yau Al's The Rebellion group). A few days before Chu’s desertion of the army he showed Kangiro (an old and good friend of the general) his plans. Kangiro then promised to the ex-General that the Kasui clan would follow him to where he would go. At this point Chu asked to the clan to set a new base for the new group “The Rebellion”.
Kangiro then chosen to set his clan into a new village that was being built in the outskirts of a military base, constructed to exploit a newly discovered coal mine.
This was not a powerful place to be but, sometimes, some troops arrived at the base for resting, delivering prisoners and taking and bringing supplies. It is known that, before leaving to the Earth Kingdom, the very Chu, accompanied by the Kasui, stole some supplies of a caravan of soldiers that were leaving the base).
When Chu left the Fire Nation to establish a sect of “The Rebellion” in the earth kingdom he lost contact with the two sects of the group in Fire Nation, the first located in Lun Yang and the second located at Xuan, the small village where Teiú was going to live. As the time came through Kangiro had two kids, Kaila and Kai. Through the ages Kai started doing classes on the base. As start Kangiro became desperate but after, as his son grew older, and as a new “son” came by, the presence of Kai in the base became very useful (though Kangiro never liked the fact). Kaila always was a problematic child. She didn’t liked to speak with her father and brother, as well with the other Kasui members… That could turn out to be a problem…
Story keeps on in Teiú’s profile
…
At the age of 12 Teiú established a good net of friends. His relationships with his school colleagues were nice and his friendship with Kai was the one of best friends. In the firebending classes he used to chat only with Kai and Seung-Ha as he considered that the other kids were too violent and war famished, he was a kid yet and he had no intentions of fighting and dueling.
Then, at this age, Teiú met the first person that was going to change his way to see the life. A new geography teacher arrived at the school, teacher Xin-Huan. It was obvious that master Xin-Huan could not control his passion about his teachings. His classes always used to start formally and boring as used to start all the other classes but, as time of was running Xin-Huan used to start talking about the interlinking relation of all living beings, as well as the relation between all the nations in the world. It was common to see, after classes, Xin-Huan being stopped by Teiú and Kai to be asked about the world’s connections.
But when Teiú was with the age of 13 something happened. In the middle of a Xin-Huan’s class two soldiers broke in and took the teacher outside the room. At the time, a man entered the room announcing that he was going to be the new teacher. From this time on, this new teacher only bragged how Fire Nation was superior to the other countries. Xin-Huan was never seen again.
Teiú’s family never was a rich one and that reflected in his childhood. While not famished there were occasions were they needed to share the meal for one person for the three at once. The orders of captain Hara were harsh and life conditions weren't good for Teiú, as well as most of the poor habitants of Xuan. The Kasui were the biggest employers of the region hiring workers to sow the fields. As the ties between Teiú and Kai became tighter the visits of Kai to Teiú’s house turned to be frequent, the same going to the opposite. Teiú became a constant presence in the Kasui house. At the age of 14, both Teiú and Kai (who already was active in “The Rebellion”) became good firebender apprentices. One day, after deep talk, Kai and his father came to a conclusion, they considered that Teiú could become a good member of “The Rebellion”, since they got in touch with the trustworthy stance and kind personality of Teiú. Bit by bit they started to show Teiú that not everything Fire Nation said was true.
That way, piece by piece, Teiú started to feel like that. As Teiú grew older he linked facts like the arrested people in the base, the oppressive teachers in the school and, after, the oddly disappearance of Xin-Huan.
When Teiú reached the age of 16 Kangiro came to him and spoke directly of “The Rebellion”. Not fully convinced of Kangiro’s teachings Teiú asked Kangiro (that was like a father to him at that point, always helping him and his family in times of need) if that shouldn’t be considered terrorism. At that Kangiro answered: “Are you sure you can't call the Fire Nation the terrorists here? Look at the situation of your family and friends Teiú. Would say that you live well? What you hear at the school, of how the Fire Nation is benevolent and rich really reflects on the life of the common folk of Xuan? Plus, are you sure you can protect a nation that attacks others? A nation that destroys people and cultures, that makes slaves and prisoners. Is that right that our people go through hard times when low in food while, in Lun Yang, Ozai eats all kind of foods after that throne of flames? Is right that we put small thieves, burglars and even gamblers to work in the coal mine just to power up those Fire Nation’s war machines?”…
At the age 17 Teiú became very aligned with “The Rebellion” ideals. However, he wasn’t sure if that was the right way. This time is when Kangiro starts teaching him the art of the Iaido, a sword art that tries to bring balance to the mind, bringing good consequences in the body. At the day Teiú was accepted as a “Rebellion” member, Kangiro gave him a MiaoDao, as a proof of the faith the head of the Kasui had on Teiú.
Teiú is at the base now, with his 17 years in the back. He is having a submission match in the base’s arena with one of the other firebend students. Seung-Ha is watching the fight and this is for sure the main reason for reaching the victory for them. Teiú lost. After leaving the gym he left to the cliffs near the village, from where he used to go when not with Kai. Seung-Ha appeared and asked him if he was alright. That afternoon, Teiú and Seung-Ha started to have a secret love story. Seung-Ha had become a wonderfully beautiful girl. Her manners were impeccable, not even Teiú could be more polite than she was. She was kind and pondered and, still, an aggressive fighter and firebender.
The perfect girl for Teiú except for one reason, she was aligned with the war ideals. The years of teachings at the base and living with her father, a military officer, made of her a girl that believed in war purposes. Not a radical, she believed that the right thing to do was to defeat the other armies and implement on the defeated nations the Fire Nation political rules, but without erasing the culture and way of life of other peoples.
Teiú was in a dilemma. He loved Seung-Ha with all his feelings and that was true but he couldn’t deny his feeling through the Fire Nation. He knew that he was going to lose one of them, Seung-Ha or his ideals, and if he was going to wait some more he was going to lose both.
When Teiú made 18 he came to a decision perceiving that, when his parents were going through lack of food in drought time the head officers of the base could eat till exhaustion. It was there that Teiú asked Kangiro to be initiated in “The Rebellion” group. Till the Kasui’s arresting Teiú never practiced any direct act against the Fire Nation but he helped, several times, in the formulation of plans to get info and supplies from the military base since he was a student of it and got access to some base’s areas. He became a trustworthy member of the village’s “Rebellion” sect. However, Teiú made the stupidity (perhaps, as we will see in a few minutes, it was the best decision) of not finishing his relationship with Seung-Ha.
Teiú was with 19 years. He could not even dream of beating Kai at Iaijutsu but he got a good skill at it. Also, his firebend was good too since he was a good student at the classes. However, Teiú was having doubts of what to do with his life. He was sure that he should leave the Fire Nation Army but didn’t knew a way to do it without making of himself a deserter. And till this time he hadn’t managed to leave Seung-Ha.
Then, life took a decision for him.
Captain Hara got in touch with Kangiro’s betrayal. Kaila, daughter of Kangiro, took his way to the military base at one night. There she told to captain Hara about her father’s role in “The Rebellion”. The reasons she gave? She said that she always hated her father and Kasui clan as they were always planning ways to betray Fire Nation. She always asked herself why the family couldn’t be like every other noble family and just support the war. Fortunately, Kaila didn’t knew of the capitol’s sect since the policy of Kangiro about the sects relationship was a hard one
Teiú was in his house having dinner with his family when he saw fire on the Kasui house. He rushed to the house to see what was happening. Hara and the base’s soldiers were attacking the Kasui family. Teiú entered the house by the back door and headed to Kangiro’s office. There he found Kangiro, Kai and some soldiers preparing to fight. His mater, then, asked Teiú to take Kai out of that place and for the two to travel to outside the Fire Nation. Kai refused, saying that he wanted to fight for what he believed side by side with his father. Kangiro then went to a weapon stand and took a scabbard with a Miaodao inside. “I was going to give it to you Teiú when judged you were loyal and trustworthy enough” said Kangiro “I see I was wrong, you became trustworthy a long time ago and now you proved that by risking your life coming here to see us. I was going to give this sword to Kai but now I think he agree with me when I deliver it to you”. Kai shared a nod, in agreement. Kangiro gave the sword to Teiú. On the blade it could be read: Pride of the Kasui. At the other side it could be read: Freedom, Peace and Justice. Tears came down of Teiú’s eyes. “I don’t want to lose you guys, you are like my second family” said Teiú. “We love you Teiú, that is why we are asking you to keep our dream alive, the dream of bettering the life of those that deserve a better existence... perhaps, the dream of stopping this war. Some of us will be arrested. These ones will be waiting your return.” said Kai. Kangiro came near and handed him a pack of papers. Inside were a map and an address, both of Lun Yang and its outskirts. “If you get arrested or beaten then burn these papers without thinking twice am I making myself understandable?” That was the last words of Kangiro to Teiú. Father and son both hugged Teiú and then left to the main entrance while Teiú fled by the backyards.
When he arrived his house his fathers were busy putting some clothes in a backpack. Seated in a chair was Seung-Ha, inside a dark-red cloak. Seung-Ha hugged him and said that her father was going to arrest him after dealing with the Kasui clan. When Teiú asked “why”, she said that the girl named Kaila reveled that Teiú was a member of “The Rebellion”. Teiú’s mind twisted upside down. He couldn’t believe that the own child of the family could betray them. At this moment Teiú’s mother came with a backpack in hands. She said that she and Teiú’s father had put some food, clothes and a blanket inside it. Teiú broke by inside. He said that he had just lost a family and now he was going to lose another. He said he couldn’t afford it and told his mother and father to do their bags and leave with him. Teiú’s parents said that they couldn’t flee with him, as they would slow down his progress. Seung-Ha then pointed to the outside of the house where an ostrich-horse was standing. Teiú got into his room and changed his clothes.
When he got out his father gave him a small bag with some coins. At the last moment Seung-Ha put a small package on his hand and said that she loved him with all the love she could give to a person and that she not cared if Teiú was a traitor or not. With the happenings passing through him as a bolt Teiú got over the ostrich-horse and took a desperate exit of the village.
The skies were warning. A heavy rain was going to fall over that night.

She was peering at him.
“You are a fool.” He managed to read, from her lips that, even after pronouncing this offense, were offering a delicious smile to him. He waved his hand slightly asking her to stop. That, however, the teacher caught on sight.
“Perhaps you, mister Teiú, is willing to answer to my question.” The teacher to a now frozen Teiú.
“Eh... I'm sorry sir... could you... could you repeat the question?” Confused.
“You are the shame of this nation mister... Pirangaetê... Luckily for you we, teachers coming from noble houses can take you peasants from your sad places and introduce you all in the marvelous civilization of our beloved country...” And at that he was looking at Teiú with eyes of disdain. “Students, who is the one that keeps us safe from the terrors of the Earth Kingdom?” He shouted.
“OZAI”, the class, in one voice.
“And who is the one who cares for us more than any other?”
“OZAI”
“Who is the one that can forgive mister Pirangaetê here for his bad behavior and disrespect for the hierarchy in the classroom?”
“OZAI”
And then, turning back to Teiú he asked in a voice a few notes louder than a whisper: “Who is the one that you should apologize here mister Teiú?”
And Teiú: “O-Ozai”
“Right, so, keeping on with the class, I speaking of how the colonies of Ozai are improving the quality of the products in the Earth Kingdom. As I was saying [...]”
Twenty minutes after Teiú was leaving the class with a terribly sorry Seung-Ha after him, asking for forgiveness. And Teiú, peering at sweet, amber colored eyes, would soon forgive completely. And the conclusion of the episode, in his mind, after forgiving her, was: “And after all, she is right... I'm just as fool as fool can be.”.
