Of course, all dressed in blue, Katara briefly stumbled into plain view of the three fire nation girls, just running past them, somehow oblivious. It wasn't that she was stupid, she just wasn't very observant about things that didn't involve Aang. Katara ended up back in a thicker area with ferns and small, dense woodland. Visibility was at a minimum, as the sun offered little to no help, and there were obstacles everywhere.
~Damn...what could have made that noise?~ She thought to herself. She had been reckless and clumsy to get this lost. Had Sokka followed her? She looked around, but didn't see him anywhere. "Hey Sokka!" She yelled, obviously unaware of Azula and company. "Where'd you go?" She asked. "I think we lost our lunch..." She hollered regrettably. "Damn...alright Katara...focus. You can get out of this crazy forest, and find Sokka..." She whispered to herself, taking a deep breath. Katara just tried to remain alert and calm.

The Princess was always aware of her surroundings, aware of the body language of her two comrades and when Mai's attention was drawn, she knew something interesting had caught it. Mai was not one to go jumping after every noise, every bit of movement.. she was an excellent filter, someone who was never overstimulate by what went on around her. It was a pleasant quality, one that was put to use on occasions such as now. Azula's eyes shifted, she kept her face forward lest anyone catch that she had caught on. The sunlight glittered on the golden irises, eyes that Agni herself was said to posses and the product of divine lineage.
Sometimes, when Azula was feeling particularly.. spiritual.. she wondered where Agni had gotten off to. The Goddess Spirit had accompanied Azula thus far, in the guise of a young noblewoman, bestowing her blessing upon both the Princess and the troops at the camp. Then.. during the night, she had vanished. Where she had gone to.. no one knew. It had caused a few rumors to swirl, but Azula had sought very quickly to silence them. She did not need anyone questioning her.
Mai's hand was raised, pointing to the direction of what she had seen and heard. Azula's eyes followed the steadiness of her hand, to her fingers, off the glint of her nails.. and to the woods. Well, Well, Well.. what do we have here..? She wondered. It seemed that the figure turned.. slipping back into the woods. All around them, whispers were heard, the wind in the trees, the shuffle of the mongoose dragons' claws on the ground, the distant shifting of water on the lake as they grew nearer to it. Azula's own hand rose, quickly, her wrist practically snapping and she brought her own lizard to a halt in mid stride, the poor creature still with a leg lifted into the air. Now her entire torso turned towards the direction where they had seen the shadowy figure. Too bulky to be the girl or the avatar from what she had heard. The messages had all said he was traveling with an boy as well. Perhaps it was him that Mai had saw.
It was a tough decision. There was no guarantee that the youth had anything to do with the avatar. If they attacked, then they would attract unwanted attention and if by the chance that the Avatar was in this area.. he would flee. There was no way to be certain. This was however, the last body of water before the great expanse of the Si Wong Desert.. Perhaps Zuzu had the same idea.. corner him against the desert where he couldn't survive without support.. and snag him.
"..Let's keep moving." Azula spoke in a low voice, using her raised hand to motion for the others to follow her. With that near whisper, she turned her head forward.. "Keep your mounts quiet.." Her own was only given the command to move slowly.. slinking over the ground almost as their liquid-like joins moved.

Getting slightly more frantic now, Sokka continued to look around for any sign of his sister. Nothing. He couldn’t find her anywhere. Why did she have to choose now to catch Aang’s “let’s go exploring” bug? He couldn’t spend an hour tracking her down. He needed to find her, get back to Aang and Toph and get the entire crew moving before those Fire Nation girls saw them. For about a minute, Sokka continued to wader around in the forest to no avail. If it weren’t for the Fire Nation girls, he’d just yell…but with them there, he needed to find a way to signal Katara that they might not notice. Fortunately, he came up with an idea.
Pursing his lips, he began a series of short chirping whistles, passable for the sound of a bird if you weren’t an ornithologist. It was the same whistle that he’d heard Jet and his crew use during their earlier encounter, something Katara would be able to instantly recognize as being Sokka but the Fire Nation girls wouldn’t suspect. As much as a psychotic, egotistical, totally not as cool as he thought he was jerk as Jet was, Sokka had to admit it was a pretty good signal system. He waited for a short period of times and let out the same series of whistles again. Hopefully, Katara would hear it and be able to locate him quickly.

Man this suit was uncomfortable... Then again, what did one expect of stone britches? Cottony softness? Flexibility? Room to breathe?
Granted, he was just learning how to pull the loose stones and dirt around his body without actually crushing himself, but Aang was beginning to lose his enthusiasm for this move. It looked so much cooler when Toph did it and he didn't have to deal with dirt in his eyes and mouth.
"Is there any way to make moving easier?" he asked out loud as he took a cumbersome step forward. His feet were covered with fist-sized stones that were clumped to his boots like iron shavings around a magnet. Earthbending like this was much different than the sort of deliberate movements that he used on larger stones. For this he was required to continuously exert some measure of bending to keep the stones together and add more force of will when he wanted to move.
Slowly but surely, Aang was learning how to move the suit around him as though it were a second skin. But until he could take a step without feeling like he was in danger of crushing some sensitive body parts, he figured it would be wise to ask for some more pointers.

Toph was easily able to pull the rock up onto herself if only by whim alone, she could move about in it, a little sluggishly to tell the truth but it was fairly close to her normal range of motion. Since they seemed to break through Aang's shell teaching him earth bending moves had become much easier. Once the basic concept was down and he nailed the form she just had various little tricks she could help him with. He still didn't exactly get the whole feeling with the earth thing, she'd have to blindfold him or something later.
Aang was a pretty cool guy, if she hadn't experienced it herself she would never have believed that he could bend all the elements. Fire was next, needless to say she hadn't felt Aang produce a flame but that would have to come sooner or later. It would be curious to see if she stayed around long enough to see just who his firebending master would be. " Just relax and let yourself get used to it, even if your slow you'll be pretty untouchable, mobility can come after wards."
She'd sent the rock on her body back to the earth so she could pay attention to Aang and his form, through the earth she could see a lot of how his body was moving and where there were weak points in it. Honestly it was pretty flawed but for a beginner it wasn't half bad. Katara had scolded her for being too rough on the kid and she was becoming friendlier with the group but a leopard couldn't change it's spots just like that.
" You should relax your shoulders more and shift your weight a little more onto your heels twinkle toes." Her comments weren't as harsh as they were before, she was a little more amused than anything as was evident as the smirk on her face and her hands on her hips.

The three girls moved forward in silence and in stealth as their mount's dark, pine green scales blended in with the surrounding, moss covered tree trunks and the low-hanging branches of bright, spring time leaves not yet dried by summer. Onward they went, the clawed feet rustling the leaves as they swung across the ground, slinking as they ran through the trees. They had to get to the Avatar before that boy got to them, got word to the Avatar of their impending arrival. That simply would not do.
Faster, you must go faster! A part of her mind urged, but the Princess' finely honed and trained mind stopped her, reminding her carefully No no, Dear Azula.. Do not rush into this blinded. Slow and steady.. you shall have your prey. Yes, her voice of reason. It reminded her of her primary goal. To catch her embarrassment of a brother and traitorous uncle. The Avatar was a side quest. A flash of blue came in front of her, through the trees as they neared the lake. The Princess bowed her head slightly as she leaned forward her lizard, fine hands tightening around the leather reins that trailed back tightly from the slender, scale lipped muzzles of the mongoose dragons. Her mount blinked his yellow eyes, sensing the change in his rider's posture as she leaned forward. Azula forced more weight from her posterior and the saddle into the balls of her feet suspended on a thin strip of metal and leather as the stirrup. Her coral colored lips slowly spread into a smile across her face.
They broke from the tree line onto the grass, the large mounts shoving aside the weed-like foliage and tall grasses that grew up around the wood's edge. Before them, the shimmering azure blue lake spread out like a blanket of silk draped into the crevice of the valley. The wind blew ripples across the lake, dropping down with an arc to touch the large middle portion as the high tree lines blocked the wind from blowing straight across. Azula rose up in her stirrups, drawing her arms straight t her side as she yanked the mongoose dragon's head up. Such harsh commands were not needed, but the heartless princess had no time for gentle commands. Dark umber hair whipped in her face, strands flashing gold in the sun light as they blew across her eyes, across her face but it was nothing a quick toss of her elegantly shaped head could not handle, driving her tendrils back behind her ears where they fluttered and whipped. The sunlight caught the angle of her painted diadem and also the golden band that held it onto her folded and bunned topknot. The shoulder collars, made of thick yet flexible fabric for protection fluttered, the v-cut in the center allowing a corner to raise up to reveal the pale red underside. Her bracers, made of simple leather that had been hand tooled with basic hem patterning held her arms in check, holding snugly to her delicate wrists. The half skirt wrap, rippled and plucked and folded around her tights now fluttered with the rush of wind, billowing out behind her.
The lizard, clad in it's dark myrtle scales reared up onto it's spindly rear legs, the muscles in the creature's thigh rippling under the iridescent scales of the lizard's skin. The fan along the plump back of the lizard twitched as it met the sunlight, the thick, muscular tail of the creatures with the faint pear colored stripes along it's dorsal. They entered the water's edge, splayed and web feet meeting the surface for just a brief second as the surface tension allowed the lizard the moment long enough to push off. Powerful hind legs, a tail that arched back as a rudder through the air, drove the lizard at a 45 degree angle across the lake's surface. Each step was quick, powerful and driving. The three young women, Perhaps the most dangerous force of the Fire Nation, were driving towards the Avatar's camp opposite the western shore of the lake. They could not cross the widest, most direct part of the Lake. No the sheer speed required to keep this precarious balancing act upon water would not have allowed it, instead, they kept close to the shore, following it's curve as much as they dared, crossing the juts of land as they crossed them to let the creatures regain their momentary composure on land before launching themselves back onto the water.

Pulling her arms across her chest to turn the great lizards head Mai dutifully followed alongside Azula as the trio ran through the last of the trees and into a thick brush. The lake grew closer over the tips of the grass that swayed to and fro as they burst through. Mai’s glossy black bangs caught most of the wind created by their hurried riding and flattened themselves against her broad forehead, making her eyes feel more exposed to the glaring sun. She squinted ahead to compensate for the effect and shifted herself farther down the curve of the saddle.
The transition from land to water still took some getting used to and Mai gripped the reins even tighter as the creature neared the edge the princess had aimed toward. The two long strips of falu pink material that usually fell against her legs now hovered in the air behind her, bending and folding in the air. There was always a measure of doubt in her mind that lingered the whole time the basilisk lizards held the angle needed to successfully pass over the water. Though it was why they were chosen to cross such obstacles Mai could not help but stay rigid and wait for the possibility the lizard’s ability might fail. Each time they hit a neck of land their speed picked up to give them enough momentum to race over the water’s surface. And each time the young noblewoman also had to wonder whether the Avatar was preparing for their arrival.
Her gave was steady on the strip of shore they rode to. The raised stance of the basilisk lizard gave a better view across the lakes surface but still it was difficult to peer over the large bobbing head in front of her. Mai shook her head against the unceasing wind and veered to the side to avoid a collection of stones that jutted out from the lake’s rim.

Fortunately, it seemed that Katara had managed to snap out of her temporary mental lapse, and within a minute or so, the siblings had reunited. On Sokka’s suggestion, they immediately headed back towards their camp. Maybe if they hurried, they could get back to warn Aang before…
…the trio of Fire Nation girls crossed the water. Crap. With mounts and movements like that, these were not ordinary girls. They were here with a purpose. Double crap.
“We’re not going to make it in time,” Katara realized aloud.
“Not at this rate,” Sokka admitted. “Can you slow them down?”
“I can try.”
Raising her hands in front of her, Katara took a deep breath to focus, and in a flash opened her eyes and brought her hands crashing down. A large wave suddenly roared to life from the near shore, threatening to encompass the lake and anyone in it with raging water. The effort was a bit draining, but the beasts were moving too fast to hit individually.
“Good work, now let’s get moving,” Sokka said putting a reassuring hand on his sister’s shoulder. “Now let’s go find Aang.”
Another minute of running, and they had made it to the clearing where Toph and Aang were training. They were still a ways a way, but they could see them. Sokka waved his arms wildly as the pair approached.
“The bison, Aang, start the bison!” he yelled. “We’ve got company!”

"Weeeeee" Aang exclaimed as he zipped around the little training ground on a pair of stone boots. After following Toph's advice of shifting his weight and keeping his feet flat, the fledgling earthbender seemed to grasp the concept of maneuvering inside his earthen covering. At the moment he only had rocks coating up to his knees, but already he was enjoying the perk of being able to glide over other earthen surfaces.
The young avatar swung around a wide circle, keeping his stance low and steady as he shifted his weight to control the turn, and eventually skidded to a stop near Toph. The stop was a bit more sudden than he intended, for the moment he stopped focusing his bending on propelling his stone boots the friction between the contact surfaces nearly sent him toppling. "Wh-whoah!" he sputtered out as he flailed his arms and managed to keep from falling face first to the ground.
Aang glanced over at Toph, hoping to see some hint of approval in her expression after his display of improvement. However, his thoughts changed quickly as he stared past his teacher and saw a large disturbance in the water further down the shore of the lake. "What is that?" he asked out loud, pointing toward the wave that seemingly rose out of nowhere. It slipped his mind that Toph couldn't really see him pointing, but he was too preoccuppied to notice.
He had his answer a few moments later, though, when he heard Sokka's voice shouting from the woods to get Appa ready for lift-off. Aang wasn't sure why they had to leave, especially because he hadn't seen any Fire Nation presence thusfar, but it would take a minute or so to pack up camp and get away. Still... if Sokka was flailing around like that, chances are that he should probably get started.
"Toph," he said quickly, turning to the earthbender girl, "Help me get Appa's saddle back on." And at that he quickly fished out the bison whistle and blew a shrill note to catch Appa's attention and bring him over from his grazing spot a stone's throw away. "Come on, boy!" he shouted as he waved for the flying bison to come back, "We have to go!"

Honestly he was more like a kid than an all powerful super being, at least she didn't have to move in order to observe him. She tilted her head lightly now and then but that was about it, Aang seemed to be picking it up, and perhaps by the end of the day they'd be able to get in him a full body suit. It'd help if he ever needed to fight a fire bender she supposed. Coat yourself in rock and walk up to them punching them square in the face, it was simple, elegant by her accounts and rather straight forward.
But a flutter of footfalls in the distance was a little worrisome. She turned her head towards the forest as Aang slipped over himself falling to the ground. " You were doing awesome, until .... you know....right here obviously..." She commented sarcastically rolling her hazed unseeing eyes. Now she was starting to feel a little left out. Aang was pointing at something and she simply furrowed her brows as if trying to see what he was pointing out.
Then came Sokka's voice, Toph's shoulders rolled back and she out right frowned watching Aang scurry up asking her help to put the saddle on the bison. Where the spirits should she start with all of this? Berating him for asking her to put a saddle on a huge bison or shouting at everyone for not filling her in on the possibly scary thing in the distance. As the water siblings got closer she waved her hands in front of her eyes in a small huff then pointed the way Aang has been pointing moments before. " Anyone care to elaborate for those of us lacking in the visual department?"
Katara didn't regard Toph much rushing to help Aang with the saddle without another word, as they hefted the heavy fabric saddle onto the bison, after a small grunt of exertion she pursed her lips gently. " There's something heading towards us, quickly."
Oh that did it. " YOU THINK!?" Toph yelled her voice something between anger and a shrill tone. These people could be so aggravating sometimes, she started to pick up their belongings tossing them onto Appa with no real order to it. Stupid rest spot with a stupid lake she couldn't even sense. She'd take more time out to argue this but it seemed like everyone was pretty urgent so she felt it could wait.

Azula smirked as she watched the two figures in blue on the shore in a seeming panic. One was a girl with dark hair pulled back into a braid, the other a young man who seemed to be flailing about more that was necessary. It was amusing to the least. Until the girl turned and faced towards him, and raised her arms. Flat with the ground, she closed her eyes and began to concentrate, the water infront of her becoming still. A water bender! The princess's lips parted as she watched the water rise as if a giant hand was pushing it up from below. The basilisk lizards already sensed something amiss, their timed runs become shaky even as the young women drove them on.
Suddenly, the young woman dropped her hands, the rush of water rocketing towards the three. as soon as it hit shallower water, a wave formed, reaching higher than normal and moving very quickly. Azula gave it hardly a moment's thought as she tightened her thighs, her calves. She dropped the reins of her lizard, planted her hands firmly into the creature's withers and propelled her body up and forward. The golden toes of her boots glittered in the sun as she fliped, her back arching as it brought her feet over her head, over her body and then carried her ouward. The wave passed underneath Azula, wiping out her Basilik lizard. The creature gave a cry as it's legs were swept out from underneath it, and it was pulled back.
The way passed, just as Azula's feet slapped the wet and now muddy ground. Her knees bent, her hand forward to catch herself while the other swung out for balance. Her lips curled into a sneer as she jerked her head up, staring at the fleeing ones in periwinkle. They would have to continue this pursuit on foot and it was not going to be a surprise. Springing upward, tendrils of hair whipping in her face, she began to run. Quick and nimble, her body was a maroon blur as she raced now along the shore, no where near as quick as before. While running, she swept her arms backward from her, fingertips igniting the blue fires. They sparkled to life leaving behind a trail of flames in the air that quickly faded to orange and red before disappearing entirely.
Run, Run, Avatar. I'm right behind you. Her mind mused as she drew closer. They were not on the shore of the lake, but close enough. The Princess kept running, into the tree line. The trees were thick, the overgrowth and fallen logs on the ground presenting problems that slowed her down but Azula could practically smell the flesh blood. And were was Zuzu in all of this? Would he make a grand appearance? Claim this battle was his?

Before she could even focus on the girl a surge of water was threatening to overwhelm Mai as well as her companions. Ahead of her Azula was doing gymnastics reminiscent of Ty Lee’s abilities, leaving the knife thrower wondering if she should have taken more interest in her friend’s constant demonstrations when they were children. Her mount’s eyes flicked from side to side and she could feel it trying to pick up speed but it would not be enough. Never having been one for swimming she was not about to let the little water bender wash her aside.
Quickly she released the reins and kicked her feet out of the stirrups. Thin hands clutched at the lizards neck as she swung her feet up to stand, something of a grunt being given from the creature with this new dispersal of weight, and then take a running leap forward. She spun around in mid-air and landed crouched in the mud that was left exposed by the water that had been sent at them. With her legs bent and middle doubled over so the edges of her vest brushed against her legs she scanned the area quickly before standing and sprinting off. The muck disgusted her and slowed her progress, not to mention the fact that it threatened to completely soil the bottom of her garments, so Mai cut over to the more stable soil that edged the lake. Here she picked up speed, taking in big gulps of air through her petite nose and exhaling through parted lips.
Trees once again lined across the path, all thick and overgrown. Around bushes and saplings Mai ran and bounded over fallen wood that lay in her path. Tree limbs caught at the thick material of her sleeves but the fabric was substantial enough to resist tearing. With her patience waning Mai flung two of her curved, double edged blade. They whistled through the air and sliced the most noticeable problems as Mai briefly glanced up, wondering if Ty Lee had passed all the uneven terrain below for the tree branches above. As she pushed past some thick leaves, the light of day just out of reach and the Avatar with it, she was all too aware of how this delay was doing nothing but waste time. Was that the Avatar's bison she heard? So much for surprise being on their side.

Despite the danger they were/could be in, all Sokka could think for a moment was how fast Katara seemed today...or maybe he was just slow? No, impossible. He was the warrior, he had to be faster. Science said so. Reality was just defying science for a moment, as he was lagging behind his sister. He still probably would have been right behind her if a noise in the brush that gave him pause. Perhaps foolishly, Sokka stopped and turned towards the noise, reaching for his club…
…Only to pause as the pinkest thing he had ever seen came soaring out of the bush. Tumbling and twirling, it landed between him and the others, who were still a good twenty meters away, revealing itself to be a young girl around his age. It was one of the girls that had been on the lizards. However, she didn’t seem to attack right away, she just smiled in that sugary sweet “I give hugs to everything” kind of way. Sokka tilted his head and looked over her shoulder at the others, then back to her. He raised an eybrow.
“Hi…” he started wearily.
“Hi!” came the bubbly reply.
“So….can I…uh, get you to move?”
“Nope, sorry. I’m not supposed to let you get away.”
“Oh…”
Sokka was quite unsure of what to do. The girl wasn’t attacking at the moment, but she said she wasn’t going to move. If that flip was any indication, she certainly could fight, but for whatever reason was choosing not to. Now, in the past, Sokka would never have dreamed of hitting a girl, especially the first strike, but Kyoshi Island had taught him a rather unforgettable lesson in that regard. So, with a silent apology to whatever moral deity was watching right now, he suddenly swung his left arm out in a chop towards the girls neck. He was, however, swiftly thwarted, as the girl not only avoided the attack, but quickly struck several points around said arm at lighting speed. Sokka hopped back in surprise and attempted to get into a fighting stance.
Sokka’s left arm, however, wasn’t moving. He sat there for a moment, strained and twisting as he willed it to move, but the arm was having none of it. It was paralyzed. Crap.
“Uh, guys?” he called to his comrades, somewhat embarrassed that he apparently needed help not being clobbered by a girl in a pink skirt.

The wait for Appa seemed agonizingly long, even though it was only a matter of seconds before the bison took to the air and came landing beside his master. "Hold still!" Aang called to his lifetime companion as he stepped beside the massive saddle and took in a deep breath. The Avatar swept his hands around in a circular fashion before crouching low and hopping up quickly. Following his guestures, a strong burst of wind coalesced beneath the saddle and then lifted up into the air. By a combination of skill and some luck, Aang managed to guide the leather platform through the air and onto Appa's back where it landed fairly close to its proper orientation. Appa himself aided in the finer adjustments by shaking his flank until the custom made riding saddle conformed to the curves of his back.
"All set," Aang thought out loud, satisfied with the saddle's placement. "Time to go!" he shouted as he turned back around to regard Sokka and Katara whom he figured should have arrived by now. Instead, however, he was greeted with the sight of a pair of crimson clad sprinting towards the camp with all haste. Both were obviously of Fire Nation heritage and one of them was trailing blue-hot flames from her hands. It seemed like they had no intention of just stopping by to chat.
Beyond them, Aang could make out Sokka having some sort of altercation with a third member of ther group, and it seemed like they would have to fight their way out of this ambush.
Aang's brow furrowed a bit, and as a warning to these girls he turned a quick spin on his tip toes and then thrust his hands forward to unless a stream of gale force winds right between the two charging girls. Part of him thought to use his recently acquired earthbending techniques, but battle was not the time to experiment with untested weapons.

The Princess grinned, satisfied with the start of this chase. The young airbender seeemed to have spotted them. The boy lifted onto his feet, swirling his arms with the loose fabric that draped across them through the air as he conjured a gust of wind in his control. The blast of air came at Azula, swirling through the trees and yet, her skills and tactical prowess were unmatched. Not one to be easily defeated by a just of wind she leapt into the air. Azula twisted her back, bringing her arms to cross over her chest as she rotated through the air and over the wind gust. Her ankles crossed delicately in the air as she twisted a full 360 degrees and it was as she turned back with her stomach to the ground once more that Azula looked up. Her hands released their grip, the bright and crisp flames no longer trailing after her, and extended. She retorted with her own blast of powerful fire from her fingers.
Short, compact, the flames were meant to more so be intimidating, perhaps to scare the bison instead of harming the boy. Azula was never so foolish. Her feet hit the ground and she fell to one knee in a controlled manner. The stiffened shoulder collars fluttered, risingup as the wind passed out from under them. Her bangs swung down into her face, but soon where behind her face as the princess rose to her feet. Golden eyes quickly bounced to side, to where she expected to see Mai. Ty Lee had already found herself a play thing in the dark skinned boy that was dressed in a pale navy tunic with the sides of his head shaved in a silly little hair style. The acrobat was giggling, amused as she stood with her hands behind her back while she watched the water tribe warrior poke his paralyzed limb. Her lips were flat, in a stern line as she made her claim on the Avatar. Mai could have the other girl.
It was then that she let her bright, cat like eyes settle on the small boy dressed in the soft oranges and yellows, colors of the long ago destroyed Air nomads. The princess began to walk towards Aang, her arms at her side, but her fingers coiled save for her pointer and index finger. Narrowing her eyes, she smiled cruely.
