Aden listened to the bickering of the young couple with a slight smile of amusement lingering on his face. He also managed a polite chuckle at Qimmiq's anecdote about his meeting with Desna, even though it wasn't that funny. On a whim, he felt a strange desire to top that story with his own recounting of his and Desna's first meeting.
"What about the day we met?" he asked Desna, calling her attention and sparing a glance at the others, "I found this girl wandering the streets with an armful of shattered wood like she was going to start a bonfire on market street... I forget how exactly, but we ended up shopping for groceries and then I helped her put her sled back together." He threw a smirk Desna's way as he debated adding one more detail about their meeting. His common sense told him that was a fair enough recounting of the day's events, but it seemed like his father's influence was just too strong to ignore at the moment.
"And the kicker is, for all my troubles she steals a kiss after I'm done and then walks off without telling me her name!" he said, laughing slightly towards the end as he folded his arms across his chest.

" She kissed you!?" Ula gasped a little bit on the verge of cracking up, that was too much even for her, Qimmiq who had been laughing found his expression slipping to a frown and he adverted his gaze, it didn't take long for him to back down and just shake his head. Desna rolled her eyes and nudged Aden playfully not wanting to seem embarrassed by this like she really was. " In all fairness you didn't tell me your name either."
Quiel smiled and laughed light heatedly, it seemed very much like her and even Ula got in a few giggled, the looked so cute together it was hard to get over. She beamed at Desna, a quiet look between girls that Desna caught and understood the meaning, Ula liked him, he was a keeper. She looked off trying to ignore it but she looked over at Aden and smiled a bit, of course it seemed a little worse than it was, the kiss was only on the cheek, he should have said that, it wouldn't have been as funny though if they included that detail.
She wasn't the average girl, it made her special and odd all at the same time. At least Aden was getting along with her friends well enough. Quiel spoke up not wanting the conversation to drop. " I bet Pikatti was about ready to tear your throat out, that dog doesn't warm up to people too quickly."

Ryota felt like every pain, every burden felt by his beloved was his own. An empathic feeling bonded with Misui so closely that felt every need to draw her closer, holding her stably as they walked away from Paco. Regardless of whether Ryota promised anything to the aged master or not, he knew everything was still left in the hands of his future wife. She had the final say now, not him. This was her home and her prerogative to leave, not his. "We need to talk," Ryota looked Misui in the face as they walked, trying to stay strong and sure despite what mental and emotional breakdowns he felt Misui must be facing. Heaven knew how upset she'd be hearing that news, after he considered how oddly silent she was after Paco told them the news. The next day was bearing down upon them like an encroaching rainstorm. As if to calm her, Ryota smiled; "You know I'll support everything you say." First stop after Renji was alerted; Misui's home. They needed to talk things over, and her family had the right to know first. Renji would have to gather up everyone of importance in her family, those who mattered the most to her, and convene away from the celebration. Whether it was a year or a day, it was all up to the healer. Ryota has left this thread

"..A girl?" She asked quietly after a moment's pause, glancing up at the tall man with a subtle smile. Ukaleq was.. surprised to hear that from a man. Most men usually wanted boys for the first born so that they could carry on the family name and inherit. That was how things always were.. but Taartoq wasn't the normal warrior. Had he ever been a warrior or was he always an archivist? "Really... a little girl." She mused softly, more to herself as the smile widened on her face and she looked away. She laughed gently after a moment, clasping her hands together, the palms of her gloves making little sound. "That's wonderful." She spoke quietly, excitement in her voice. Taartoq would be a father.. and what a wonderful father he would be. He was quiet, respectful.. probably helpful. She could only hope for Padma's sake.
Ukaleq looked up at the man again, her dark eyes sparkling as she smiled. "If you ever require someone to watch her.. I'll happily volunteered." She offered, quickly sliding off the wall of packed snow and ice to stay, her cream, ruffled skirts falling just short of the ground. She bowed her head, the strands of hair brushing her cheeks as her front two braids swung forward from her shoulders with the natural movement. She raised her eyes again to the man, her cheeks flushed red as she smiled at him. She felt her stomach flip flop.

Taartoq expected such a response from the shorter noblewoman, considering the tribe's impetus placed on male children's births and the value of such ones, boys, through their existence. Granted, it meant a closer scrutiny and astronomical expectations, but males were definitely the favored gender there in the north. Taartoq had assured himself just why he valued the thought of a girl born unto him and Padma, and definitely not only to marry her off and bring another man into the family. No, she would be respected by her mother and father until and beyond a mutual honor among each family member existed, and Taartoq would learn much for a case when a boy infant was born to them, where he could be an emotional ballast when the boy was teased - if he took after his father in any way, spirits knew he would be teased. A lot. It would be like a dream if Taartoq's son never had to feel reason to mistrust most every soul, as did Taartoq.
However, the veritable 'master' of inkbending found discomfort in speaking. When the girl made it personal, Taartoq felt the need to bow out graciously and escape before he started to cringe inwardly even more. It was a common habit of his, really - not even a handful of people made him feel at rest, at home, to the point where he would actually make an effort to bond with them as a friend. When someone got too close, they would be pushed away. Sadly, it was a learned trait he found no ability or urge to cast aside. Instead of acting as placid as before, one could tell his mood changed to be much more rigid. His words wouldn't change, but his tone seemed almost callous.
"Then you will be our first choice," he said straight to Ukaleq, ice-carved emotionless face almost glaring right down at her with an oddly kind assurance. "If you'll excuse me, I am needed elsewhere." At that abrupt point in time, Taartoq moved away from the two women with a stiff bow, formal and curt as he often was. Regarding the 'elsewhere' he was needed, not even Taartoq knew...

Aden lowered his hands from across his chest, feeling that his goal had been acheived and he could stop putting on a show. He was still smiling slightly but he had lost the knowing smirk. When Quiel asked him about Pikatti, he couldn't help but detect a bit of a harsh undertone to the question. However, he decided to ignore it for the sake of congeniality.
"He grew out of that quickly enough," Aden answered him with a slight shrug. "Now we're best of buddies, right boy?" He pointed at the polar bear-dog, and then flashed a thumbs-up when Pikatti glanced his way.
He then looked back over at Desna and rocked idly on his heels. It re-occurred to him that they were still technically on the dance floor and he had interrupted her and Quiel's dancing. "Well," he said, stretching his hands in front of him, "Now that you have Pikatti back I guess I should step off the dance floor and leave you guys to your dancing." Aden nodded in succession to Desna's friends and then started to step away from the group and rejoin his parents.
"Have fun."

" I guess that's our que to return to the dance floor." Quiel smiled to Aden and nodded respectfully taking Ula's hand and helping her up. The couple both smiled at Aden in a friendly manner, Ula waved a little playfully as her husband tugged her off to the dance floor. " I hope we see you again soon Aden!" She said before her mouth was silenced by a playful kiss her husband put on her lips causing her to blush and giggle as they started to twirl about on the dance floor.
Desna looked at Aden, was it honestly so horrible for him to be around her? Most of the time she felt that she had a magnetic personality but today it seemed like her and Aden were polar opposites, repelling one another at every turn. She started towards him, to ask for another dance or to just go talk but as she put her hand out to grab his shoulder she stopped. What exactly was she doing? He was her friend but she honestly wanted to spend time with him, it was so odd. She pulled her hand back towards herself looking at his back then down at her hand like there was something on it, some sort of oil she couldn't place.
" Okay, see you around!" She said covering up her various doubts with a smile and a wave. When she turned around Qimmiq was standing there with a smile. Desna returned it but it was forced.
She took his hands and he led them back to the dance floor. for once she honestly didn't feel like kicking up her heels. If felt like something was wrong, like the puzzle with a single peice out of place.

Ukaleq looked up at him quietly as he spoke, her hands still pressed together under her chin. He seemed to be thinking for a moment, looking away from her distantly. Her eyebrows curved upward sympathetically, her lips curled with a smile at each corner. Then, he glanced back at her, almost.. mechanically. She had come to expect that from him though and as he spoke, she took a quiet delight in his voice.
He then dismissed himself, after assuring that she would be their first thought should they need any one to watch the baby. Just talking with him was more than alright with her.. He had to know that she at least admired him as Archivist. It was a occupation she herself would not minding having. Lowering her hands, she inclined her head to him, bowing gently. "..Good bye, Master Taartoq." She spoke softly, always pleasant, always smiling gently to him. Flip flop.

Eventually, the celebration started to slow, or so it seemed to Saghani as he watched from the background. Well…watch was perhaps a poor term for it. He didn’t really have any interest in the event beyond it’s end, and that was all he was really looking for as he sat and waited. His mind wandered a little, to the mission, of course. What would they name the ship? It hardly mattered, but nonetheless it was something he would need to know. Would it be one with meaning, or just something that sounded nice? Would it be named after someone? An ancestor perhaps. Suddenly, a call rang out over the masses and Saghani’s thoughts returned to the present. It seemed he would be finding out soon enough.
Slowly, he rose from his seat and headed towards the ship. He would be there, as its captain, but he would be making no speeches or saying anything at all, really. That was for the Chief, Arnook, who would be sending them off personally. Then at last he would be free, bowing to no authority but his own. Maybe then, without the restrictions of tradition and the feelings of nobles, he could get something done…
[Saghani out, thread ended]

Nati remained oddly quiet throughout the rest of the day, she felt lost in her thoughts of family and friends. Most thoughts were of Tarrtoq’s words, they’d affected her more deeply than she could have believed herself. But she couldn’t step back from the task now; her brother was moving full steam ahead. She had to follow. Many young women danced with their beloved partners or cast lures for future husbands, but Nati didn’t think about this. Some snippy comments had been made to her in the Huts recently, that her going was simply a way of finding a man for herself. From many healers she had been met with surprise that a woman may have dared to break a taboo and aid in the war. Others had shown great support, her parents included, though of course her mother bitterly didn’t wish for her leave.
Suddenly night time seemed to appear, and Nati was left with a empty feeling in her body. She rushed through the crowds to find her parents and brother. Their parting was quiet, Nati held onto her mother for a while, arms encircled around the other’s shoulders. Finally with some gentle coaxing from Kian, the pair of them left. Kian kept his arm wrapped around Nati as they headed towards the ship. Heading towards an uncertain future on the high seas, going against the Fire Nation, at least Nati knew she had her brother there.
