Hibiki was in such a deep slumber, that he never even woke as Jia spoke to him. He was dreaming.
He was on the old farm, before the Fire Nation had been there. The grass was lush and green around the small, thatch roofed house, where the chimney could be seen to be emitting smoke- cooking inside. He wondered what it was. The field had been sown with mostly wheat, and a little bit of other crops to support the family. Obviously, the wheat would make the bread and would thus be the most important part of the crop. Everything else was extra. There were poratoes, squash, cabbage (sellers were just never very good these days), tomatoes, green onions, all sorts of stuff.
Hibiki smiled. This was his happy place, his heaven. This was the place to which he dreadfully wished he could return. This was before the Fire Nation.
Before.
Hibiki turned to look out at the fields, to see them suddenly alight. He gasped, helplessly realizing what was happening. Sillhouetted by the wild, raging flames in the distance, and the smoke all around them, was a large shape, one which Hibiki recognized, and knew well...
He murmured in his sleep. "Father..."

"Yeah I know," Jialing hissed at Reed as she sat next to him, her head turned towards his so that their whispers stayed hushed. Their foreheads almost touched as the spoke and Jialing kept her eyes on the fire and the line of trees. They were barely in a clearing.. and thankfully the trees help disperse the smoke and also keep it trapped so it wouldn't be a dead giveaway. The Fire Nation would certainly be looking for them after all, a captive had gone missing and two guards had been taken out. Now that didn't look suspicious. Yeah Jialing had probably made a bad choice. "Well what can we do to get them out of there? It's a whole company of soldiers.. Like.. 250!" She threw her hands out away from her, towards the fire as she spread her fingers wide and grabbed two fist fulls of what best would be described as imaginary cajones.
"We can't take them out by ourselves..!" She gritted her teeth as she glanced back to Reed, her mud colored eyes forced shut by the sheer immensity of the idea she was trying to convey. She sighed heavily and let her hands fall, her knuckles hitting knees and sliding off to the side where they impacted on the dirt. "...I Don't know what I was thinking, Reed. I really don't." She said softly, shaking her head as she turned away from him and just let her head fall back onto the log behind her. She stared at the stars above them.
"Oy! Boy.. get in the sleeping bag before I have to drag you there." She grumbled a little bit louder this time.

Reed blew some of the hair away from his eyes. An army of 250? " Look, Jia, not to be belittling us, but there is NO WAY we can take on an army of 250.... But... We could sneak it, maybe.. I mean, you're good at doing sneaky stuff and I'm learning; we just need another 100 or so people who can sneak too!" He wiggled his fingers to make it look like ants were walking up by his chest. "But, seriously," He said finishing up his laughter, " We're toast under those conditions."
Reed looked over to Jia. It wasn't like her to admit she didn't know what to do, or she hadn't done something for a reason. "Come on, Jia. I'm sure some alternate force in the spirit would is forcing people into doing actions they didn't know.. why they..did...?" There. It confused him! So it was definitely something Jialing would say. "It's a conspiracy I tell you."
Reed put his right palm forward closer to the fire as Jia yelled over to Hibiki. After Jia was finished Reed spoke over the fire, " You think she's kidding about the whole 'dragging you over there'... Yeaaahhh, she's not..."

His father was right there. His long hair flew freely in the wild winds that had suddenly picked up around the area. Ash flew into the air, sparks scarred the night sky, and flames roared, licking up the sides of the house. The wind roared as well, but seemed only to fan the flames. It was in this inferno that Hibiki existed at that time.
But it meant nothing to him.
"FATHER!" He ran as nothing had compelled him before. His father was dead. But he was living. Was Hibiki dead, and living?
He ran, and ran. Past dying soldiers on both sides, past rubble, past ruin and despair. He ran past it all, to his father. His father's profile turned, about to meet him-
"Oy! Boy.. get in the sleeping bag before I have to drag you there."
"You think she's kidding about the whole 'dragging you over there'... Yeaaahhh, she's not..."
Hibiki sat up and blinked. What? Sleeping what? Bag? What was-...right. He was awake. He droopily looked over. He didn't care what they were saying, he didn't care what they wanted so long as they left him alone. He was a bit angry for being interrupted. His hair was everywhere, since he'd slept on it, and not done anything to it (it had been messy to begin with). His eyes, only half open, guided him as he shuffled around the fire to the sleeping bags. He turned back to them, a smile on his face as he curled up into the warm bag. "Thanks..." he said quietly, as he snuggled into it, falling asleep quickly.
He hoped his dreams would take him back.
Back to his father.

Jialing rolled her eyes as Reed gave a little speech about the Spirits and threw her head fore ward. Her chin almost hit her collarbone, she leveled it at the right moment to be eye to eye with Reed. Her eyes turned and she chided him with her muddy glare, a "tch" sound pushing from her lips in disgust. "Please tell me you don't believe that spirit mumbo jumbo.." She muttered with a slight whine in her voice. Movement caught her attention and she glanced up to see the kid stumbling over to the sleeping bags. Good.. it wouldn't do her good to be feeling guilty all night by making him sleep out in the cold. She closed her eyes, sighing heavily as she dropped her head to her knees, rolling her forehead across the bony knee caps. "I'm serious Reed.. I don't know what I was thinking.. maybe that it'd make us look good?"
Jia stopped with rolling her head and merely let her forehead rest on her knees, folded in half as she knitted her hands behind her head. She mumbled various ugly things under her breath, talking to knees in a low voice. Jin stirred across the fire, having since rolled over onto his side with his paws dangling in the air. Occasionally one would twitch or move and a whimper, a whine or a muffled bark would escape his black-rimmed lip flaps, fluttering.

Hibiki had just gotten up and sot refuge in Reed's sleeping bag. The night air was indeed getting colder and colder, the wind even started to pick up to a raspy breeze. Reed laughed, "I don't know." He said in response when asked if he believed in spirits. It was 100% honest.
The teen looked over at Jialing. She was cute when she serious. Or at least whatever she was right now. He smiled to himself. Reed softly nudged Jia's shoulder still smiling, "Or maybe...you did it because it was the right thing to do." Why was she worrying so much? About something she did that she should be praised for? "Jia. You took on two guards, did the right thing, and saved that kid right over there... Sound to me like whatever you were thinking, you shouldn't doubt it." He nodded towards Hibiki. " That kid has you to thank for giving him his freedom back.... And not to mention my sleeping bag." He smiled again.

"...Spirits.. you are such an idiot." She muttered as he nudged her shoulder, lifting her head from her ams and glancing at him. With a heavy side she shifted her weight forward, rocking forward onto the balls of her feet as she propped her kneeling form up. With one hand on the ground, she popped herself up into a standing form, putting one hand in her hip. She watched the fire cackle, the golden light reflecting on her front and on her face. She narrowed her eyes and sighed heavily as she drew her leg back and kicked dirt across the fire, causing it to sputter. She repeated it again and again until the fire died down to just glowing embers. The nights were fine right now, although a bit of a chill did permeate the night air and mornings were wicked cold. They couldn't let the fire run unattended or be spotted. With it out, the light vanished, leaving only darkness until their eyes adjusted to the starlight.
Jialing turned and started walking from the camp to the rocky overhang that sheltered the sleeping bags from the weather and rain already a few times. She threw a hand up, waving it forward. "Don't blame me if I kick you and you can't sleep."

Reed watched as Jia kicked out the fire. He tried to avoid the dirt and dust in the air but it ended up attacking his short anyways. He got up and stretched his arms and rolled his shoulders. Oh, yes, sleeping on the dirt tonight was gonna be a blast!.. Not really. Jialing started to walk away. Reed was about to say something but was cut off.
"Don't blame me if I kick you and you can't sleep." Reed's expression was surprised. He lifted his brow and was about to ask 'Really?' before he caught himself. He didn't want he to take it back. He grinned and walked next to Jialing.
After she had gotten in he kicked off his boots and pulled his shirt over his head. Awkward? Maybe. As well as being covered in dust and ash it would be way too hot if he slept fully clothed ; he didn't what to have to clean out the sleeping bag in the morning or have Jia complain about it. He grinned and crawled in next to her. Bringing his lips by her ear he breathed out- "Night, Jia." Before adjusting himself so he as laying on his back.

She shoot a glare at him at his.. excitement. What the hell?! She was being NICE to him so he wouldn't have to sleep next to Jin in the dirt! With a growl, the lanky girl jabbed an elbow right into his rib as they walked, a bony rib. And She meant it too. "Do you WANT to sleep with Jin? DIDN'T THINK SO." She kept her voice low so as not to wake the sleeping kid, but that didn't reduce the chomping bite that floated around her words. She scowled at him, swiftly walking ahead of him to plop down on the ground next to the ruffled up sleeping bag. Really, in all honesty, it could hold two people. Both of them could. They were supplied by the Rebellion and while they weren't the best, a few added blankets wadded up as pillows or piled onto one's feet did the job around most of the Earth Kingdom. They had had to share once before when, crossing the northern river, Jialing had fallen in and all her gear had gotten soaked. It had taken the bag nearly a week to dry out.
She sat down , her legs sprawled infront of her as she pulled off her boots, not bothering to untie them. She glanced over her shoulder with a glare at her traveling companion and hurled one of the hide-made boots, a slight suede texture to them, at his head. The knee high boot flew behind his head, tumbling in the air a few times before striking the ground and rolling to a stop. It was a threat.. a warning. She did the same with the other boot, throwing it off to the side and not at his head this time.
She crawled in, inching away from him to the edge of the giant sack, clutching her secondary blanket which had one end wadded up as a pillow, the other spread over her. She curled into a fetal position, a fist ready to go flying at his face. His pleasant 'good night' Was met with incoherent grumblings from the girl about ripping his manhood off and giving it to Jin as a new squeaky toy.
[Let's end this]
