"I'm going to be a mother soon. It's my job to worry," Padma teased. Honestly, she couldn't help worrying about her husband and sometimes she almost felt inadequate as a wife when she couldn't make all his troubles go away. But she was not a miracle workers. Life didn't work that way. Even in healing, where some of the recoveries made seemed as thought they must have come about due to divine measures, some things were beyond help. A simple cold, if left to drain away upon a person with a weak immune system for too long could cause death and sometimes when wounds were bad enough a healer knew that they would not win the battle with death even before it was fought. There had only been one time in the history of the Water Tribe that she could remember where the gods had directly fought off death, and even then death had only been postponed. She could only pray that she would never have to feel the grief that Chief Arnook was now feeling.
But that was uncertain. Her child could easily die before it breathed it's first breath as so many children did. Life was a constantly flowing river that shifted with both the rain and the sunshine above it. Once again taking Taartoq's hand, she looked at him lovingly with her icy blue eyes. "Life is change... Some changes are good while others bring pain and unhappiness. We can only make the best of the changes that come our way and pray to the spirits for good fortune. But please know, that whatever may come our way, I will be here to support you. You don't have to do everything alone. I am more than happy to share both the moments of sorrow and the times of celebration with you. I hope you will never be afraid to tell me what troubles you."

Padma had such a way with words sometimes. Able to articulate exactly how she felt in her heart, whereas Taartoq was content to express his feelings in as few words as humanly possible. But her speech, the almost poetic expression so perfectly worded, almost brought a tear to Taartoq's eye. It didn't, but there was a distinct happiness presented that he couldn't mistake for anything else. Ah, to be optimistic would be like a dream. Almost like he felt when they gave their offering to the gods, and just as tender a moment.
"A beautiful sentiment...very true." Through small means, he felt almost guilty at her offers. As her husband, he knew he was to protect, honor, and support her, but those were the easiest tasks by an outward physical standpoint. On emotional grounds, he had little fortitude to speak of. Not a fact he would admit even under pressing circumstances, but Taartoq feared more things than people realized. But moments like these...they fortified him, even more than Taartoq himself knew. "I also hope so...for the future. I have lost any reason to worry right now."
A delicate smile followed, a deep breath filling his nostrils as he gazed straight back at his wife. "Thank you..."

Padma got up, walking around the table so that she stood next to her husband, then folding her knees underneath her as she settled herself on the pelt beside him. She spoke no words, but she knew that her message would be understood. 'My only desire is your happiness and I will say these words again and again, for as long as you stand beside me.' She wrapped her arms around his chest and kissed him lightly before laying her head upon his shoulder and closing her eyes. She felt completely at peace for the first time since before the Fire Nation's attack. She had needed this, almost as much as Taartoq had. She could hardly be at ease with this pregnancy if her husband and best friend was not at ease with it as well. Knowing he had no more worries, even if only temporally, sent a wave of relief washing over her. Soon, she knew, the baby's motion would keep her up at night and her thoughts would be filled with both happy thoughts of children and the terrifying memories of the screams of mothers going into labor, but for now, everything was perfect. Right now, she was completely happy.

"Never would I dream of leaving you."
The faint essence of a smile - perhaps the illusion made by his placid demeanor - came to his face, eyes closing as his wife's arms cascaded over his shoulders. That moment brought a tranquil joy that none could surpass, even if romance was absent. Theirs was an unconventional love, where emotional attachment took a much greater precedent over physical attraction, but the bond was just as strong. Taartoq was completely truthful with his words.
With the two acting in harmony, there was no way their parenthood could fail. Taartoq still wasn't entirely convinced of this, but decided that valiant efforts would be sent forth all the same. Though he would probably lack sincerity, he would try. He was certain that was all that would matter. Time would teach him his lesson, but that future was far off like the moon on the horizon. In that household, peace carried over that night like a gentle mist. Taartoq...Padma...their unborn daugher...Ning...all of them slept with a strong sense of security. Life would go on just fine.
