"Hey Dan-dan! Watch this!"
Hok hopped out from behind the brush, suspended in his hand a bundle of weeds he had collected in minutes, the head-sized mass soaked thoroughly with water. He hoped he was able to carry out this move as he intended, unlike the surely embarrassing - but entirely forgiveable - technique tested out by Dan-dan. Hok knew it wouldn't be too hard, considering he would only be replacing water with plants.
"Think fast!"
Whirling the mass of soaked weeds into a tendril - exactly like a standard water-whip, in fact - he flung the whisp of greenery straight at the older fellow. Letting out a slighty laugh, he pulled back and allowed it to snap in midair between the two, breaking the relative silence with a crackle. He then swung it back to his hand and reformed the mass in less than a second, shaping it into a sphere that soon found itself flying straight toward Dan-dan.
By every means was he showing off, but became almost oblivious to the fact that the beautiful Kulap may be watching. Still, he awaited Dan-dan's reaction with gusto, since a strong waterbender like him could definitely cook up some clever move in return.

Kulap was deep in mediation focusing on her task of clearing her mind and getting rid of all the negative energies that seemed to clean with the tired shaman. It was bad enough that she was still figuring out this pregnancy thing it was whole ‘nother basket of berries that she had to train that brat Yun. She was teetering on the edge of lashing out when she heard Yun.
"Caun't ah do somth'n worth whaile? Tea 'n herbs isn't nu'thin mah lil' cousins couldn't do"
Oh that did it.
Kulap opened one her swamp water colored eyes and stared at Yun. She really had balls. Now fully out of her trance Kulap stood up and grabbed her staff.
“Yew ain’t worth it really, I dun take apprentices normally, I dun’t know why yer ma or pa think I would take a smart mouth viper-spider like yew. Yer impatient, noisy and have to question every single thing we do. And instead of keepin’ yer trap shut yew moan and bi*ch and spread more negative energy aft’r I all cleaned it up, and you wanna do sumthin’ worth while. Even though I said yew gotta start from the ground up. Yew think this is a game sum sorta superpower thing? Yew think this all magic and hexin’ eve’yone? If yew ain’t serious, then git. I sick of dealin’ with yer whinin’ tell yer ma and pa I won’t train you unless yew really want it.” And with that Kulap left the area stomping away frustrated.

Yun sent the woman a curt look raising her eyebrows at the little fit the woman threw. " Whut kinda shaw-mn are yew if'n yew can't even put up with a girl." Stubbornly she looked off to the side locking her jaw in a pout. Her eyes were closed but when she realized the woman wasn't storming back immediately she huffed her shoulders hunching a little. Just who did she think she was.
" Fien! Go! See if'n ah care!" Quickly Yun kicked a rock near her feet in the direction Kulap went, she was no role model, that was for sure, she couldn't even hold her own dang temper why should she expect anyone else to do the same. Her attentions shifted from the quickly dissapearing woman to the boys causing a smirk to grace her features. Perhaps instead of being trained in such a useless topic she could join in the mock sparring.
Her arms fluidly moved to her sides pooling up globs of mucky swamp water from the earth beneath her into her palms. Of her siblings she was the better bender, age and experience set her behind her brothers in a fair fight but she was smarter, quicker, more ruthless in a fight. What good were rules of engagement when you found yourself loosing, when playing with swine it never hurts to get a little dirty. Moving her body forward and out she swung her arms and the globs of water along the ground. Her feet spread apart as the water ground it's self along the earth collecting mud and debris as it flew forward. Her arms finally came up, one at her cheek the other outstretched towards Hok, in correspondence the dirtied glob smacked into Hok's weeds knocking them off the path he'd set them on.

Dan-dan looked up after hearing his name called. He squinted his eyes for a moment to make out what Hok was holding, but his look softened into one of amusement when he recognized the mass of weeds. He smiled slightly as the younger waterbender unfurled the plantmatter and snapped the air with it like a whip. It was a fairly impressive maneuver, and the sort of bending that Dan-dan never really developed a talent for. It was a little too indirect for his manner of bending.
However, when Hok brought the weeds back and then swung them around to throw them at Dan-dan's head, the fisherman was a little surprised. He managed to bring both hands up in defense, but for lack of any real skill in plantbending he simply attempted to stop the ball in the air. Pushing his arms forward as he turned his head away, he shoved out with his own bending.
Dan-dan had expected some sort of impact, but to his surprise something else had stopped the ball of weeds before he did. A stream of dirty water hit it from the side, and after a moment of confusion he followed it back to its source. He was a little surprised to see Yun as the one who had interefered, and after that his eyes went to try and locate Kulap. The fisherman spotted his wife quickly enough, and by her stride he could tell she wasn't happy. A slight sigh escaped his lips and he immediately started toward her.
"You two fight nice," was all he said to Hok and Yun as he trotted after her at a jogging pace. He slowed down before he caught up started walking a step beside and behind.
"You okay, hon?" he asked, his voice soft and unsure of what to expect in reaction.

Yun’s insult did nothing to phase Kulap as the angry spirit-talker thundered down the path looking more and more frustrated. It was Dan-dan soothing voice that calmed her down a bit.
“No everythin’ ain’t alright. I jest can’t stand that little brat. She’s been obstinate and belli-jer-rant. I she did everythin’ I told her too, but it’s her attitude she needs to loose it if she wants to be a shaman. But looks like she doesn’t wanna be one which is jest fine. I ain’t teachin’ one one nuthin’ unless they are serious about learnin’ it.” Kulap crossed her arms and leaned on a tree.
“ ‘Sides, I haven’t been alright lately I dunno if I really have the patience for her, especially with this.” She said pointing to her belly. Kulap blew some hair out her face and waited for Dan-dan response, to her reasoning. She had a feeling that she would have to go and try again with Yun.

At first, Hok thought it was Dan-Dan somehow summoning those globs of mud from afar, using his superior waterbending abilities to control faraway portions of water and slam them into Hok's construct of moistened weeds. Grinning exuberantly, about to holler out his heightened feelings and opinions on the matter, his peripheral vision soon brought a certain Yun into sight. Considering for a second the path in which the orbs of mud flew, he realized it had to be her instead of Dan-Dan. Dang.
Oh, well. It was still pretty cool how everything crashed, exploded, and left debris of mud and plants coating everything in close proximity including the waterbenders themselves. No matter who did it, it was still as thrilling as ever. Though perhaps if Kulap showed off a few moves, that would be a bit more entertaining - at least to Hok and his hormones. All the distractions made him fail to realize Dan-Dan had left, following Kulap like a good husband, while he was left alone with Yun. Hok also started to wonder why he couldn't be elsewhere at the moment. Maybe it was time to make due with what he couldn't change? "Um...hi, Yun."

Yun ran her forearm along her face getting the splattered mug off of her skin, she was rather pleased to see Hok grinning as he was. She knew she was a strong water bender, but it didn't she didn't enjoy praise before she smashed the people down for not knowing the obvious. She smirked as Dan-dan complimented her, well, both of them, but she could let that one slide. Curiously her eyes followed the man as he left, it seemed he'd have to cool his wifes jets. With a small pout she felt almost guilty but on the other hand the woman was making a fool out of Yun by giving her such simple tasks.
Her hands moved to her narrow girlish hips as she looked up to the boy, a strange sensation welling up in the pit of her stomach. She recognized it vaguely as a strong desire to catch his attention. Beyond that she had some ideas but mostly she'd rather bully him until it went away. " Hey" She replied, glancing over her shoulder she noticed that the adults were all but gone from sight. Blowing some hair from her face she strode over to Hok picking up a piece of swamp vine on her way. " Show me how yew move plants liek that."

From the moment Yun laid eyes on him, Hok was increasingly cautious with everything she did. Now that the adults had left the scene, who knew what horrors she would unleash? He could only imagine what her motive was when she grabbed a vine piece and walked over. Had he any reason to assume she'd fashion some sort of noose? Apparently, her intentions lay elsewhere. How could he be sure Yun wouldn't immediately turn on him the instant she learned to control vines? He also saw no point in turning her away. Maybe people change more often than he thought.
"Uh, sure. But why d'yuh wanna learn anyway?" Hok took that moment to be vigilant, despite his lowered guard. Not only that, but he was curious. Also, he couldn't help but wonder how effectively he, a fellow youth of fifteen years, could teach Yun something it had taken him months to learn. Even after that, he had to recall his thirteen-year-old self had plenty of trouble bending them in ways in which he intended. At present, he always ensured the plants he bended were soaked thoroughly beforehand just so he could move them more smoothly. It was harder than it looked!

Yun's open somewhat curious expression was quickly fading as Hok began to bury himself on her bad side, she liked it when people submitted to her immediately but it seemed like he continued to defy her. She locked her jaw attempting not to loose her cool so easily, it was so easy for her to though. She breathed a huff through her nose continuing to hold the root awkwardly. Before she'd tried to vine bend, it was difficult, she'd torn the water right out of the plants making a clump of dried plant matter, the only detailed bending she could do was with henna getting small details and smoothing designs to a perfected state.
Her specialty was massive water, what she couldn't make with persicion she could handle with capacity and force. Her emotions were nearly always raging, when bending she would poor all of herself into it thus having a lot more power behind her movements. It was difficult for her to be calm, focused and bend with her head instead of her emotions. Yun huffed looking away, a bit of a scoff mixed into the gesture. she over looked the question, not wanting to explain her plight to him, he'd just laugh at her. " Well if'n yew can't teach me thaan yew aren't a very gewd bender are yew?"

Of course Yun had to taunt him. Was there anything else she did in a day other than provoke or annoy people to the point where they wanted to craft a noose from vines and hang themselves from the nearest tree? Well, maybe that was a stretch, but Yun was one of those people who, when seeing her walk your way, it would be wise to just turn the other direction and let your feet carry you as fast as possible. Hok must have been a glutton for punishment to let her be around him more often than other swamp kids.
"Oh yew," he grumbled, glaring his odd-colored eyes directly at her. Eyeing the piece of vine in her hand, he could tell there was probably a good deal of water soaking its innards, especially if it had been laying on the ground for hours. Was that ever not the case with any swamp plant, though?
Reaching out his hand, it seemed like he was aiming to grab the plant from afar, fingers outstretched. Then, arching back his elbow, and consequently the rest of his arm, waterbending aided him to snatch the vine right from her hands. Leisurely, it floated over to him as his other hand spread out its fingers much like its twin. The vine was maybe Hok's own height, give or take, so there was no trouble moving it gracefully - or as gracefully as a novice like himself could handle. Moving the vine in ripples like a snake, hands following in short order, it was clear his eyes wouldn't meet those of Yun for a while. "Yuh gotta remember the water inside's rull small...like blood or somethin'. Then yuh gotta focus."

Yun watched content to leave her anger on the back burner for a moment, she opened her palms as the vine began to slip away from her grasp. Honestly she was curious how he could do that when she couldn't. It was obvious she was a better bender than he was, she was smarter, stronger. Honestly she was superior to him in every way shape and form but she couldn't bend the plants like that. It wasn't fair! " Like blood huh...?" She repeated softly to herself thinking about it for a moment for deciding to attempt the vine bending on her own.
Spying another vine she walked away from Hok turning her back to him and his bending completely, she didn't feel any threat from him at all. He was a joke, it was just a fluke that his training allowed him to bend vines. Someone like her with natural talents should be able to blow him out of the water.
Her hand reached out to grab the vine from the ground with bending and she glared darkly as the vine refused to move, she brought her hand back quickly expelling a large glob of water from the poor plant with the rest of it dried and withered. Quickly she dropped her bending letting the water splatter where the momentum of the movement lead it. She scowled at the dead plant before softening lightly. Why couldn't she do it, this was irritating. Kicking the vine she walked off a bit more to find another, she'd keep going until she got it, or she was going to. It seemed futile, who wanted to vine bend anyway. There was a small moment of disappointment, anger at herself for killing the poor plant so easily, she pouted and looked at the ground but it soon turned to rage. The vines were against her. Once more she went over kicking the dried out vine. " STEWPID PLANT!"

Dan-dan attempted to put himself in Kulap's position so he could better sympathize with her obvious problems. Being pregnant was entirely alien to him, but it apparently made one quite short-fused and tempermental. And having an unwilling apprentice... that was also something the fisherman was unused to, but he figured it wasn't too enjoyable either.
"Well..." he said, daring to lean beside Kulap and run a hand gently up her arm, "Maybe ya don't haf'ta put all this on yer plate at once." Dan-dan glanced back the way they'd come, picking out Yun for a moment before looking at Kulap once more. "If she's really puttin' up this much of a fuss, just tell her she needs to shape up or yer gonna find someone else... Or maybe I'll lend ya my paddle and you can give her a spankin' til she shows some manners."
Dan-dan smiled slightly at the last comment, hoping to lighten his wife's mood with a little humor.

The shaman leaned back to listen to her husband speak Dan-dan was a lot more patient then she was, and a lot more faithful, she could really do with a bit of simple wisdom right now.
"Maybe ya don't haf'ta put all this on yer plate at once. If she's really puttin' up this much of a fuss, just tell her she needs to shape up or yer gonna find someone else... Or maybe I'll lend ya my paddle and you can give her a spankin' til she shows some manners."
Kulap showed a wry smile before hiding it again. “Maybe I should spank ‘er somethin’ awful, but yer right, maybe I got too much to deal with. I am still a little nervous about havin’ a baby and that brat attitude is driving me up the trees, I miscarry with her spite alone.” Kulap said bitterly as she crouched a bit. “Maybe I should give her an ultimatum or somethin’”

Hok's eyes followed every wrong turn Yun took, each jaunty pull, each impetuous jerk, the general lack of patience and care she took. Needless to say, he wasn't surprised when the vine had all water hewn from it, falling to the ground in a pitiful, dessicated husk. Even though it was a plant and wasn't quite alive like him and Yun - except, as he was sure, it had more of a soul than Yun - he still couldn't help but feel sorry for it. Although, knowing it was stupid to think that, he looked back at Yun and tried to think of what to say. It was a sure thing he'd be smacked no matter what happened, so perhaps the best choice would be to leave.
In fact...
It wasn't long before he took a few steps back from the seething girl, smiling sheepishly, eyes darting away from her face. If he knew what was best for him, he'd stick to his decision to hightail it out of there. Then, in a quick jolt running from the girl, his intentions were plain as the tree canopy above their heads. He could escape her in the swamp! Hastily, he said his goodbyes. "Gotta go! See yuh later!"

Dan-dan nodded as Kulap seemed to go along with his suggestion and convince herself that there was something could be done about the situation. A dark cloud passed his features when she alluded to miscarrying though. The fisherman had done well to keep any and all such negative thoughts from his mind thusfar, aand he intended not to even consider such an event unless absolutely necessary.
"There ya go," he said enouragingly to his wife as she pondered her reaction to Yun's insubordinance. "Lay it flat on the line for 'er, and make sure she knows what's what." Dan-dan leaned forward and pressed a kiss to her forhead. Hopefully this little crisis could be averted and he wouldn't have to go to bed with an angry wife beside him.
Dan-dan stepped away after that and glanced back toward where Yun and Hok had formerly been rough-housing. He hadn't heard either of them in a little bit, and part of him wondered if they'd somehow killed each other. The fisherman took a few steps to the side to tree and peer through the trees and locate the slightly younger benders.
