"Naaay," without looking, his sister nonchalantly nudged away his reaching hand with her knee. "Nah uhhhn." By childhood habit this routine was repeated a third time as she shifted then balanced the serving tray atop her head while still placing the appetizers before her husband. Going around room along with the other women serving the first course she had already place morsels at the empty space where her daughter would have been sitting. But she and the other adults found the younger children's departure from the table to continue playing as inconsequential, knowing they'd pause for a quite bite before resuming play again. And there were always the slightly older kids to coax, reprimand or drag their younger siblings back to the table.
The husband meanwhile looked over her hip at his relatively young brother-in-law who looked to him sympathetically. He could only replied in confusion and a raise of his shoulders in a shrug, confused by the siblings' ritual if it was one.
Then Nokoseuhbholke eyebrows began to furrow at his sister. The serving platter balanced atop her head, she slipped her hand under his plate and began walking away with it. And continued walking. Then rounded the room. Finally the plate gently touched down on the other side of Ukaleq. Nokose's mouth held tight as his sister began placing bits of food on his faraway plate and Ukaleq's without looking at either of them. Nokose willed words to his sister in a glance as she departed from Ukaleq.
I'll get you for this, he told her as he rose to his knees.
You're welcome to try, her smug reply was as she continued about her room, knowing her brother would have to move to his new seat.

((I am out of practice for Ukaleq.. pardon the bad post.))
With a serene smile on her face, she watched the body of Ikingut vanish into the crowd. Without nothing to focus on, her mind wandered as she looked down to the doll proped up in Ikingut's seat. The hot towels, carefully prepped before a meal were brought out, still steaming and Ukaleq took great care with her gloves, their snowflake designs on the back, to fold them up and place them beside her feet. Carefully she reached a now bare hand out to fix and straighten the parka's skirt on the doll. It was then that she noticed the footsteps approaching. Her eyes lifted, through those curved, oiled bangs upward at a woman, well rounded in her features with her dark hair all twisted up with a pale-porcline blue wrap. For a moment she blinked, her doe-like eyes wide. She almost thought it was Nokose come over to see her! her lips parted in a light laugh as she tend leaned forward as she acknowledged the woman bringing her her plate and some of the feast that awaited.
"Excuse me, Ma'am... You are.. a sister of Nokose's?" She was cautious. She didn't want to assume, but the resemblance was uncanny. Her eyes watched, following her hands as she placed items from the serving tray balance on her head with ease. Her breath was snagged as she watched, silently hoping she would not drop it. Ukaleq had often seen women walking along the canals with baskets, or their knitting, or parkas on their heads on warm days, often with children in toe. She had never learned to do such a thing, nor had her mother. Her younger sister had often laughed at the women, but Ukaleq was in awe. As the plate came down near her, she backed away, straightening her back as she did so (Spirits forbid her mother catch her slouching around guests) and through the older woman's moving arms, she saw the lean form of Nokose approaching. He was glaring daggers at the back of his Sister's head.
She caught her breath, both recognizing that look of resentment towards one's sibling and also being amused by it. Her eyes flickered to Nokose, her pressed lips blossoming into a toothy smile while her cheeks flushed with scarlet undertones. She had noticed that plate coming to rest next to her. "Am I to be kept company?"

“Indeed you are precious,” sweetly answering her with a closed eyed smile and slight tilt of her head. “In fact,” she began with her best straight face while guaging the young woman and was inwardly satisfied, “my brother requested such whilst he reserved my. Ah here he comes now.” Pointing her chin towards her younger brother who made his way towards them with all the stiff grace of the dead.
Pretending to know nothing while a seaweed wrapped tentacle hung from his mouth, Nokoseuhbholke’s brother-in-law merely stared blankly and turned away chewing. Nokose’s lips in turned folded inwards as he chewed on them in thought. His sister had the upper hand. There was little choice left for him to do but follow along, he resigned.
Getting to his feet he stiltedly began crossing the room. Self-conscious and with a clenched jaw, he inwardly repeated to himself that no one was watching, no one was taking notice of him while focusing his sight on a space of the wall behind and far above Ukaleq’s head. For the most part his mental mantra worked, even though no one really had cast attention towards him save for two or three pair of eyes. One set of which was rather pleased with herself as she slipped away to continue serving the rest of the party-goers.
Arriving next to Ukaleq he quietly inhaled a breath deep enough to suck the air from the room before cautiously settling down. Embarrassed he tried to keep his eyes from approaching her as he exhaled nervously. “You should consider yourself fortunate you don’t have one,” recalling she only mentioned an older brother thus far. “Older sisters are a horrid condition to be afflicted with.”
