It felt as a thousand needles by his left arm. And though that arm was taking the toll of flames all over itself, the firebender over Teiú intensified his attack enough to make the rebel's deflective bending starting to fail at its means.
With his life threatened, on the verge of standing without action, Teiú roared and flailed like a wild animal on a trap. A burning and scarred left hand advanced forward spreading the flames away at all directions. It was enough time to get up and, with a right hand by the foe's mask, spilling fire through the mask's slits. Burning the soldier inside out, that at the point stumbled back, with his nemesis hand over his face and the flames consuming his body, Teiú uttered the most awkward sound. An eerie howl, in a creepy symphony with the sound of consuming fire. Teiú now was over his enemy, madly set on his burning frenzy. The awful smell of burnt meat and the desperate screams of the agonizing soldier weren't enough to stop him. At the state of mind and body that the young man reached, probably very little could've stopped him at it.
It sufficed, however, when the soldier stopped moving. So sudden as the counterattack started, it ended. Teiú doubled over himself, holding his left arm wrapped in excruciating pain. The burnt body of the soldier fell lifeless on the rocky shore. An astonished young earthbender stood motionless. Meanwhile Teiú's insane moment, he drove back the other two firebenders menacing the survivors. Now, even seeing that wouldn't be long that more fire soldier would come across the destroyed gate, the kid was shocked by the horrible scene he witnessed. The screams nearby forced him to acknowledge the situation, though. He rushed to the crouched Teiú.
To the deserter, the calls of the younger one took him out of a catatonic state. His words were a confusing gathering of words, however. Teiú looked around, trying to distinguish things between the blood of his late victim spread over his face. The boy's plea became easily understandable, then. "What now?" was what the boy had been repeating. The vessel was departing, and though the great majority of prisoners had been rescued, there were a dozen yet left by the docks, some of them by the water between the pier and the ship.
Teiú wouldn't be able to fight anymore. He barely knew if he would be able to walk, upon standing. It proved to be possible, he saw when the boy helped him up. Arm stung harshly. Quick or dead, it seemed.
The brown eyes of the boy seemed to be different in colors of his own brown eyes, as he remembered them, Teiú thought. They shone equally, though. They shone as eyes still trying to find the best way out. They were desperate. But then, looking at them, Teiú couldn't escape his self. Eyes like that were all that he had seem lately. Eyes like that were the ones he was happy to protect... they meant hope, the one thing Teiú himself was still struggling to keep within.
"T-there, take, ah... take the last ones... there, go through the shore, through the rocks, open the path for them... M-meet the ship on the curve, it'll pass near... t-take them there."
The earthbender rushed through the docks, shouting and pulling the last prisoners towards the rocks. His stamina was admirable. Teiú walked painful steps towards the two assailed earlier. The woman over the kid fell aside, dead as the firebender Teiú had just faced. When the kid under her moved its little hand, it was more than enough to give Teiú the strength to lift it up with his good arm and go after the earthbender opening way through the boulders in a straight line, in means of meeting the ship on its curve out of the bay.
The last prisoners still out had just left the water to follow the earthbending boy and Teiú, last in the desperate line, saw the fire soldiers going over the stone walls of Pohuan. Meanwhile, the boy had very little ahead to cut of the path toward the ship's course. On a rushed walk, carrying the kid alongside, Teiú forced himself on just in hopes the ship would come across before the soldiers of his homeland.
