I posted today, so I was thinking about Hibiki in general. I had never thought of him as an eventual 'warrior' for the rebellion, but I had hoped that eventually he'd overcome his fear a little, so that he could at least fight if needed. I was wondering if (in Tachi Dai) there would be some way he could at least practice on his own? Just asking if this could be inserted into the plot. Not necessarily asking for an instructor- his rustic and extremely basic skills would take too much time to shape into anything particularly useful to an instructor. I just want him to be (and perhaps this is the difference between him being able to fight if needed, and cowering behind a tree) a bit more confidant in his abilities to actually bend the earth for purposes other than mining or farming. Essentially, he cannot control the earth as well as he should be able to because of his lack of confidence. He was able to control the movement of the mine, something that takes extreme precision, essentially due to fear. I want him to regain some of that ability for himself during the time in Tachi Dai. If nobody has any objections, I'd just like for him to be able to either talk this out, or something like that, with somebody, during Tachi Dai. Also, any ideas about it? Like if you think this is the wrong direction for him to go? This was my idea about him from the start- that he'd eventually shed at least a little of his fear, and become a more confident individual- not like he was before the village was taken, but at least moreso than he is now.

I think it could be the wrong direction. Have him earthbend a (fox)hole then hide in it. ;D How about shifting him into more of a support 'n defense role? Might do the job of keeping him closer to character. Throw up a wall. Create individual sinkholes. Sudden speed bumps. Loosen the packed earth underneath or a localized tremor or slide the ground from underneath someone. Trenches and moats. Tunnels (won't members of the Rebellion need an escape route once the city is town is surrounded or something? ) etc. etc. etc. I'm sure his life as farm and mining laborer could mesh and offer ideas. And in time he can expand on that support n' defense repertoire or even ease him into more of a "i go fight know raarrrr1" later on if you choose.

*shrug* The actual technique of him using earthbending isn't really of all that much concern to me. In any case, the only thing he would really be able to do other than some of those things would be to lift soil/earth/rocks and throw them at people. I don't really think that he can 'refine' his capabilities to actually attack like Toph could. And in that I don't mean her ability, I mean her technique. She could bring up earth to defend people (like you're saying), but she could also then punch the wall, causing small rocks to fly out of it at her opponents (as demonstrated by Aang on top of The Drill). He could never do that. The extent of his attacking ability would always be 'pick up rock, throw', or maybe separate pieces of earth out of the ground, then throw. That's about it. As for the abilities you've listed, tunnels were an obvious ability I was thinking of, though since we don't have a definite place where the plot's going yet, IDK where he'll use them. The fox hole was a definite idea I've had in mind too. The poor coward. Sinkholes might be a bit advanced for him ATM, but he'd probably cause the ground to move underneath them. And then walls, for sure. He'd use those alright. But basically, I envisioned him being able to throw up walls to defend people (and himself), and then eventually gaining the courage to actually fight a person by throwing rocks at them with earthbending. That's the extent of the abilities I think he'd be able to master at any given point, and most of those (other than the walls and tunelling) are further down the road. Any other suggestions? I value your input.

Not much beyond what you've better elaborated and conjectured on.
Though it would be nice to see Hibiki be treated to a jackslap with "get ahold of yourself man!" moment. =p And maybe an in-game Hibiki-Than variety hour.

Soooos, about the 'Battle of Tachi Dai' thread--is anyone not okay with an incognito Jingko sniffing about deep within the town? Possibly solo.
Whether or not he pinpoints a location or general area or not and anything else will depend on you guys.

Sooo~ guess we now have our "dun Dun DUN" moment?
This could help push the snowball rolling down the winterhill. Hoped you like the purposely bad accent (though Jingko likely thought his impersonation was decent) because you'll hear no more of it any further. xP
Zilong, you awake?

Ahoy, Gengoro--slow your roll.
Jingko is being PC'd and has bolted just yet. He's more in a 'behind the counter and slowly backing away towards an exit with a sharpy-pointy-implement close to a screaming child's throat' mode at the moment. Bum rushing from anyone may not be a good idea, yet. And if I get further permission from Lin, expect a lil blood to prove a point. =p
I am open to ideas on rescue though. And ideas from you Lin are especially welcome. Otherwise progression may go to something like Jingko getting away.
I think the ostrich-horse Teiu and Setsuko rode in on will be on the side of the building Jingko is escaping to, right? He'll either take that or some passerby's. Likely get rid of Setsuko then rather than carry her off. Might throw her threw an (un)open(ed?) window or something. Set off a firework/beacon so Tachi Dai can be burninated then, armour up then head back to town for round two.
Opinions?

I guess I should put my two coppers worth in here.
If Jingko hurts the girl, I can guarantee Soshi is going to pick him out on the battlefield for a Duel.

Mmmm, nice, nice, Chamir. Actually, this was a good way to get Jingko out of the inn, both IC and OOC. I was a bit confused by the way things went, though. I think that if I had the chance I would have put Teiú on his way to protect Sets before Jingko could get it. As it is going, though, is good nonetheless. I was, then, worrying about getting Sets back alive (if Lin wants that to happen). I'll pretend the second chair hit Teiú stunned for a few moments. Right after that, though, he is likely to give chase till Jingko lets Sets go. Also, use the ostrich-horse at your will, it is there to be added to the plot.
And as so, will this knock the rebels in two different groups? Like, Jia, Reed and Hibiki will go one side and the others another side?

We could even mix it up if you wanted. Hibiki's already half panicked. If something bigger were to happen, he'd latch on to the biggest semi-friendly humanoid and stick to them like glue.
I don't care really, just pointing that out.

Due to Jia's departure (saving her own neck but also puts her a step ahead of Jingko) it seems like the Rebels will be split up.
Someone light a fire under Muqali. Tell him to get Zilong ready for the stage. Rather it not just be doing double duty with Vu & Jingko and redshirt army.

Hibik's on his own now. If anybody wants to meet up to form an escape group, or if any soldier wants the right to capture/fight him, let me know. He may also escape on his own depending on what happens.

Update for The Battle Of Tachi Dai thread.
So pretty much the surrounding area is crawling in Fire Nation troops while their trebuchets in the south are plying their wares into Tachi Dai. As the people flee out of the gates faster than a room cleared by one of Teiu's stinky poems(=p), the Fire Nation troops will march upon the city in a shrinking circle convincing anyone fleeing to turn back while others will be captured or killed.
But I'm playing it as if the Fire Nation had not had time to fully encompass the countryside and prepare themselves, so it is possible that a few people can escape the raid if you feel your character needs an out.
Soldiers like Jingko, Vu and Zilong who are coming from the south will be going inside Tachi Dai to further demolish it and smoke out whoever is left in there.
Now after all that, once Tachi Dai is subdued I'm thinking that along with burning the entire place to the ground, survivors and prisoners will be taken to Pohuai Stronghold (the fort in the Blue Spirit episode) for interrogation and what not. From there nonbenders can end up who knows where--we can decide later. Earthbenders however can be shipped towards Ba Sing Se for a little underground project.
Well?
