Name: Ni Feng
Age: 23
Gender: Male
Group: Earth Kingdom Citizen
Nation: Earth Kingdom
Bender?: Yes
Physical Appearance:
Long. Lanky. Bony. He had the body of a prepubescent teenager, hairless face included. Long, gawky arms swayed gracefully at his side, the bones of his wrist visible. A set of even longer legs hung beneath a sickening and unsettling pelvis with hip bones showing through the skin. They looked awkward. Primarily because of their length, but also because of the damned emaciated appearance. He was by no means starving ¾ a small and round protruding belly proved that¾he just had the appearance of a Fire Nation prisoner, maybe even the remains of an Airbender.
High cheek bones marked his slender face. A thin, sanguine nose matched the rest of bony face. A set of wiry eyebrows ( Oddly, they are arched…) loomed above two piercing emerald eyes. They were slit, almost closed shut normally, allowing him just enough sight to repulse at the common things in Ba Seng Se. Thankfully, his ears were proportionate to his head, although his naturally long, wavy hair¾which was the darkest ebony¾ obscured them from view. Even so, they were pierced. A small faux jade hung daintily from their respective lobes.
The Sun roasted his skin to an even sepia, much to his dismay. He despised getting darker. Thin lips hid his small (for an adult) teeth and it seemed as if they were in a constant frown of disapproval. A long neck harbors the rock like protrusion that was his Adam’s apple and ended in bony collar bone.
Clothing/Armor:
Ni Feng’s usual outfits are loud and arrogant, laced with the finest of silks and threaded by the best in Ba Seng Se (himself of course ).The typical day calls for a loose fitting cheongsam that fell past his shin. The main color was a ferny color, while the secondary color, which included the cuffs on the sleeves and button color, was a brighter harlequin color. A thin strip of olive lined the collar and front ends of the cheongsam and along the bottom. A sash of the same color circled his thin waist loosely and held an intricate fan whenever it wasn’t in his hand. Baggy , straight-leg pants matched the main color of cheongsam exactly and cuffed at his bony ankles. Traditional Chinese slippers were also this fern color, while the sole was a darker green, closer to myrtle.
Weapons:
In his mind, the only weapon suited for nobility were fans. Of course, he wields one, though hardly ever to fight. The tessan was made of iron, painted a sharp emerald color and intricately laced with gold, forming several patterns an symbols. Some were of legendary animals, like the long extinct dragon, and some were of spirits. A long rope was tied to the handle of the fan that held no purpose but fashion interests. Sharpened iron spokes made the actual body of fan, making it a deadly slicing weapon; however, folded up, it served as a useful bludgeoning tool (especially for the stray peasant). However, since his life relatively peaceful, the great tessan of Ni Feng is mostly used to ward of bugs and cool it’s owner off.
Personality:
Ni Feng is an obvious snob. His constant frowning is an instant giveaway. He is an elitist and is selfish, common traits among the various nobles in the Earth Kingdom and hell, anywhere. His mind is sharp….in some areas. Mathematics and tailoring were like the back of his hand, but it was common sense that he lacked.
His attitude towards women was the same he had towards the peasants ( Woman peasants had it real bad). Yet, young, fresh, and ripe girls seemed to hold a special place in his heart. To him, young was anything without wrinkles and drooping breasts. It may seem pedophilic, but at heart, he just doesn’t want anything “used”. Why take the bitten apple when you can have the fresh one?
He’s very curious and clever, often finding a way around labor laws and things of that sort. Finding loopholes or throwing sand in an enemy’s eye were all shortcuts to getting what you want. Taking the long way would take time and energy, something Ni Feng didn’t like to waste.
He can be extremely bipolar at times, easily switching from raging mad to the gayest thing in the Earth Kingdom. That combined with baijiu, make for a constantly changing and unstable personality.
He has great pride in his clothing and family’s clothing, since they are custom made and supply the finest of shops in the Earth Kingdom.
Through all the negative, the drunk and unstable Ni Feng has some good in his heart. With some he is extremely passionate, and at times, when the sky is black and the stars are bright, he feels random pity for those peasant and spares a silver coin for one or two of them. It is best to ask for a gift or favor when he is in this mood; he’s almost bendable to another’s will. Of course, due to outside factors ( Maotai!), it’s rare to find him like this.
Between sewing and reading, Ni Feng finds pleasure in practicing calligraphy and playing strategy games. The calligraphy and the love for strategy were learned passions, since he was forced to take part in both activities as a child.
Background:
When you’re young money and popularity eat up the good qualities of a human quickly, leaving just filth and unwanted refuse. And when the money comes, you forget about your past¾sometimes. This is basically the life story of the Ni family.
Like all merchants, they started off small and poor, utilizing the only skill they knew to earn them money¾sewing. They started off small: socks, headbands, and sash’s were common for them. Eventually, their skill surpassed rival tailor stalls, making them the best in Ba Seng Se.
By the time Ni Feng’s parents weres born, the money and fame had long since rotted their brains. Although they were obviously evil, they were very spiritual and attended spiritual sermons on the like on a regular basis. Their hypocrisy probably prevented them from actually connecting with the gods. They lied to customers, cheated them, and even stole from them. They were a noble family, but not at all noble in deeds.
The money and fame brought the family closer to royal quarters, eventually allowing the Ni family name to be recognized as ‘noble’. To be frank, Feng’s father was a drunk and his mother was an evil woman who took advantage of everyone and Ni Feng got the worst of both of them.
He didn’t mind that his parents were hypocrites, liars, and drunks. As a matter of fact he didn’t care. His mind was already focused on himself on the age of eight. Everything he did was for himself. Although the noble children had to go to school, he learned to increase his wit for himself. He joined the military academy for young men not for his father, but for himself.
His parents weren’t around much and he was mostly with them for show, especially when he was with his mother. The only true bonding moments were at the temples. That was one his motivating factors too. His longing to be like the gods. However he took the wrong way, thinking that money first and then goodness of the heart.
When he wasn’t being shown off to the other nobles, Ni Feng was either at the academy, learning his trade skill, or staying with grandma. The old hag of a woman ( on his mother’s side of the family) tried to brighten his black heart with her fables and tales. She was the complete opposite of her daughter. And for some reason, Ni Feng absolutely loathed her. It was probably because in his naïve mind, he thought she was trying to take the place of Momma Ni. Though if it were not for her, Ni Feng would probably be the most evil plant budding in Ba Seng Se.
During his teenage years in the academy, Ni Feng was as snobbish, arrogant, selfish, and vain as a teenager could get. His peers didn’t mind¾they were all like him. Money had rotted all of their hearts, but Ni Feng’s regular visits to the temple saved the small amount of hope left inside of him.
Males and females alike, he got along with them. Most of the boys were brash and outspoken, but Ni Feng’s obnoxious personality seemed to drown their personalities in a myriad of smart-ass remarks and cunning anecdotes.
The girls were normal teenagers, pointing and blushing and laughing and whatnot. He shared a more intimate relationship with one of the girls, whose name was Xue. The relationship went well, until he really analyzed the relationship that they shared. Why did he really like her? Yes, her looks were initially what attracted him, but what made him stay? Ni Feng wasn’t that shallow to stay with a female just for her looks. He realized that she made him feel good about himself, whether it was in a good or bad way. Her ditzy comments made him laugh and feel smart. She filled various insecurities he had as a child. He was neglected; she made him feel wanted. He felt small and insignificant next to his parents, but next to her, he was a king. She brought out all these emotions in him, making the bond that much stronger.
Sadly, money was another strong factor. Along with all her other perks, she was rich, like he. However, her money was only temporary it seemed. Her family became bankrupt after various personal problems, the main one being gambling. Eventually, she took the looks of a peasant in his eyes. Maybe he was shallow. But she was a peasant now and he was nobility. He couldn’t be seen with her! He severed the relationship quickly, putting up a façade of disdain for what they shared. They were on “different levels now” and “continuing the relationship would be social suicide”. However uncaring he appeared on the outside, on the inside he was practically melting inside. He felt both guilt and remorse for his shameful actions, talking them over to superior beings every mediation session.
Eventually, he stopped seeing her and stopped making excuses to pass by their shabby little hut, officially ending his thoughts of her…somewhat. Like the earth that he bends, Ni Feng is stubborn, still letting social status define his life.
Among the students, he was one of the few benders. This talent was discovered while he was meditating at a temple around the age of 7, but his still swears to all her petty friends that he was bending in the womb.. When he was young,, just minor vibrations within the earth were possible. Now, manipulation of small amounts of rock were possible. The academy refined these skills and more, such as his instinct and thinking.
Along wit refinancing his bending skills and learning the various histories of his ancestors, Ni Feng studied strategy and calligraphy. Although they weren’t classes that he voluntarily took, he came to like them, especially the calligraphy classes. He took strategy to please his father, who would have preferred to have his son in a military career. Yet, he was too lackadaisical in rearing Ni Feng, mostly leaving him to his own choices. His mother forced him to take calligraphy so that she could have yet another aspect of her son to display to the public.
To be different, he picked the tessan as his weapon of choice. Not only did it make him more popular with the females ( at that time), it also was the perfect weapon for nobility. It was gracefully, strong, and decisive; qualities that all nobles should share.
Days away from school were spent sewing. He rarely used his hands. After learning about his bending abilities, he switched to an earthen needle and taught himself to sew with great precision and detail unachievable with the human hand.
At 18, it was time for the bird to leave the nest. He made the big move. Down the hall. Still, it was far enough away from them to be independent. He had already inherited their skills with words and readiness for drink. He had already learned to treat peasant as dirt and nobility as friend. He had already learned that being on top was the only place to be. His heart was blackened indeed.
He continued sewing up until now, oblivious to the news, suffering, and peasants that might be around him. His vision stopped at his feet ( unless there was a good reason to look at something else). His father and mother both died of heat complications, leaving Ni Feng their shop and their living quarters. Life was good for him. The lifestyle of the rich and famous was in full effect.
Sample RP:
Ni Feng’s eyes rose gently as a wide grin spread across the sepia canvass, revealing a row of small and numerous teeth. “ Oh yes, yes, yes. Do come in!” The tessan waved gracefully back and forth and Ni Feng feverishly fanned himself from the smoldering heat from the advancing sun. “ It’s deathly hot outside. Come in, Sir!”
A barrel-chested man strode into the famous clothing store, keenly staring and the robes and gowns. There was something odd about the man. Maybe it was the way his legs didn’t synchronize with his great chest when he walked or maybe it was the great difference in size between the mans top and bottom halves. Oh well. It didn’t matter. Money was money, and this man apparently had some.
The strange figure stopped next to an especially costly kimono, raising a child-like finger to the see-through material.
Ni Feng immediately jumped on the sale. “ Oh! I see you have taste sir. Well, of course you do, you’re in here!” He exhaled a short burst of giggles before settling down. “ This is the latest in the women collections. It seems those things like to wear things like this at night. How classless” The distaste for women was obvious.
The stranger mumbled through a sentence.” Ah yes, man! But m’lady needs a new kimono and I want to surprise her.”
Ni Feng grabbed the shoulders of the man, feeling nothing but straw and cloth. No bone. The characteristic frown slowly appeared across his thin face. “ Oh,” he said, bitterness lacing every word,” I know just the thing for her.
These ruffians…he thought angrily.
He turned around quickly, his cheongsam trailing behind him. As quickly as he had turned away from the man, he turned back to face him. Instead of near Ni Feng’s high cheekbones, the ornate tessan was flashing across the cloth of the stranger. Yelps and scampering of feet echoed from the cotton and straw that burst out.
Two grimy, mud-caked children ran towards the shop entrance, leaving muddy tracks on the way. Ni Feng’s eyes opened slightly, only to reveal eyes full of disgust and hatred, yet glistening with joy. He raised his right leg, then slammed it down strongly, striking the ground with an eerie thud. He landed in a squat, then rotated his foot quickly, sending his body into a half turn. A strong upward thrust followed, sending a wave of earth upwards, blocking the entrance.
The peasants clawed at the walls desperately, tearing down nothing but dirt. Ni Feng held up a pouch full of rocks and shook it violently. “ This is what you were going to pay me with?! Huh?!” His deep voice echoed through the shop, launching the children into tears. “
I’m slipping. I should know the sound of gold by now. You dirty little rodents will be duly punish by yours truly.” He swung his left foot in front of his right leg, bending in a graceful bow, The tessan hanging menacingly from his waist.
A vicious beating occurred, leaving the peasants scarred and Ni Feng pleased.
