Name: Akimitsu(Aki)
Age: Eighteen, almost nineteen
Gender: Male
Group: Citizen
Nation: Earth Kingdom
Bender?: No
Physical Appearance:
Aki has always been pale, no matter how much time he spends in the sun, though the time he spends out in the night instead of day, doesn't help the lack of tan at all. The color, however, is neither sickly nor shallow, but quite natural looking, a fair sort of tone, if you will. If ill, he pales even more, though, which does end up looking very bad on him, and he takes on a slight greenish tint. He doesn't burn easily, and his skin is rather soft, though tough and doesn't scar easily, even if there are a few scars he's gotten over the years, mostly on his arms.
His eyes are an olive drab color, a mix of brown and green, and always very bright. His emotions always tend to shine through them, whether or not he likes them to or not. He has good vision, though not perfect, and must wear glasses to read fine print, such as in books or posters, or signs from far away. He doesn't like admitting this, so he usually goes without them when in front of other people.. or people he actually knows, anyway.
Aki's hair is a very deep shade of brown, almost black in color, especially depending on the light where he is. He tends to keep it about shoulder length, though it's usually kept up somehow. His bangs are a little shorter, reaching around the point of his chin, which makes it rather hard to pull back all at once. It's curly, but not overly so, yet not so less that it's classified as 'wavy,' or the like. It's a medium between the two, and is usually very messy and tangly, unless he actually spends time on it.. which isn't often.
His body isn't overly fit, though it isn't lanky and frail, either. He has a fair amount of muscle to be useful, but he still tends to be in the 'small' category(his height a measly 5'2'', weight only 129 lbs.,) which helps a lot with his job. His feet, as well as his hands, are small, making his steps very light on the ground, and quiet, if not silent, depending on where exactly he's stepping. After all, he's not some type of god; he still makes noise when walking on sticks or dry leaves. His shoulders are also small, slightly feminine, but broad enough for one to notice some sort of difference.
His facial features are a bit 'aristocrat-like,' with high, sharp cheekbones and a sharp chin to go along. He has a scar across his face, from the start of his right eyebrow, to the start of the left side of his jawbone. It isn't horrendously ugly, but it's there, and can perhaps be rather intimidating to some people. His eyebrows are thin, though not manicured, and his nose medium-sided and pointed at the tip, with a crook from a childhood break. His lips are thin, but not feminine, and his mouth is slightly wide.
Clothing/Armor:
Aki's clothing are generally always green and brown, as he does live in the Earth kingdom, and it's the easiest way to be unnoticed. Of course, he tends to wear the darker versions while on his job, but he generally wears very bright colors any other time of the day. The only article he wears that doesn't change between jobs and free-time, is the thin scarf he wears around his head. It's black in color, and wraps around his head once, then travels down the side of his face to wrap around his neck. It gives him an appearance of being from a desert area, though he isn't. He finds it a good and easy way to cover his face if he needs to, and when he doesn't, he merely wears it as a turban, hat, or scarf, which he does often.
He always tends to wear very form-fitting clothing, very thin and easy to maneuver in. He hardly ever wears a shirt, and when he does, it has to be very comfortable. He favorites vests, usually in a very pale green or dark brown, or a tight tunic with a light brown belt around his waist. When he wears tunics, though, he usually wears a thin, long-sleeved shirt underneath. He always wears gloves, no matter if he's wearing a shirt or not. They tend to go an inch to an inch and a half below his elbow. They're generally black, or a very dark brown, but never green. He also has a few that go to mid-bicep and usually wears them with vests or top-less.
For bottoms, they generally stay the same; dark trousers that tuck into knee-high boots. They're tight, very form-fitting, but not so much that it's painful or just plain annoying. They're comfortable, not coarse, but not overly soft, as not to tear easily. If they do tear, it generally doesn't make a mess, so he doesn't leave any trail when he's in someone else's home. His boots are thick, but light, and a brown color. They buckle at the top and across the middle of his feet, with small heels in the back.
Weapons:
Aki usually keeps to very light weapons, unless he's traveling for more than a day. He's a fan of just his fists, but as he doesn't have as much muscle as a lot of people, he usually uses knives or daggers. He hides these in the strangest, and also some usual, places. Two, in each boot, one in his scarf, two in his shirt or vest. In the very strong chance he isn't wearing one, though, he hides those two in his pants, or finds some extra room in his boots. While traveling, he uses large weapons. He keeps a dao situated on his belt and a single-edged spear across his back for easy access. He's pretty good with these, the spear more so than the dao, and knives and daggers even more than that.
Personality:
Aki has always loved being a brat, especially when he gets away with it. He can be devious and sarcastic, but never whiny, as that had annoyed his mother to death, and he learned the hard way not to do something so stupid as that. He teases people, taunts and ridicules, but tries not to make them 'low,' as he doesn't like to think himself completely rude and, his teases, completely uncalled for. Being involved in very foolish and childish banters has always appealed to him, mostly because he's had hardly anyone his age to banter with. Even though he's almost a technical 'adult,' he is very childish in how he mocks and argues with people, unless he's actually being serious. In these times, he can use all the knowledge he was forced to swallow and make someone look an absolute fool when he wants to.
He has always been very adventurous, loving the feel and the rush of it. He loves traveling for this reason, the possibility of happening upon an adventure. Boredom is never an option, as he always has to have something to do to ease his restless persona. Whether it's randomly dancing or climbing a tree, it doesn't really matter, but his favorite passed time to ease his boredom would definitely be stealing things. His attraction to that easily exceeds any other infatuation, even with people, and one can easily play to his ego with compliments to the ability.
Indeed, Aki tends to be very, very prideful, especially about his abilities. He loves that he can, at least in his mind, steal almost anything that he can possibly carry. He won't flaunt that aloud, though, as that would just be plain stupid, but he does express his arrogance in other ways, like his ability to fight or the easiness he finds in sneaking up and scaring people. What can he say? It's amusing for him to see people scream in fright, as long as it's not affecting their health. He wouldn't dream of doing it to a person capable of having a heart attack. Well, alright, he would dream of it, but he would convince himself to ignore the urge. Humor, he thinks, is one of his better traits. He can understand almost any sort of it, even the drier, darker senses of the word, and he appreciates it very much, as laughing is just a fun passed-time for him.
Surprisingly, he does have a lot of self-control. Though, if he sees something shiny that looks expensive, chances are, he will steal it, but he has enough control to at least wait until the best moment. He can keep his tongue if threatened to a fight, but only for a matter of time. If the annoyance keeps on, most likely, he will snap, but only if it keeps on irritating him. He's learned that fights aren't very fun, especially when he ends up in jail for some reason or another. Even if he's learned, especially in the wilderness, how to fight, it doesn't mean he will at any given moment, though he does love showing off his skill with the weaponry he's stolen over the years.
He's a very stubborn person, but not stupid. He knows when to give in and knows when to hold his ground. He will most likely stand for what he believes in and fight for it as well, but he's willing to compromise if it can avoid conflict, especially with someone he knows he'd lose to. He knows how to weigh the good and the bad almost evenly to make a proper decision, and quickly as well, as long as the decision doesn't involve people. Or, to be more specific, men. Growing up among women, Aki easily learned how to predict them and understand them, but as the only man he had when he was younger was some bitter old man, he never understood what went on in their heads. This is one reason they appeal to him so much, as they confuse him to no end, and Aki does always love a challenge, especially when it comes to wits and mystery.
Aki is rather outgoing, loving attention and company. He loves to entertain them with stories and dance, especially when they're drunk, as it's just more amusing. Still, he has his moments of calm, when all he wants to do is look out on nature and think for a moment, calm down from the hustle and bustle of fun and adventure and just take a breather. Story-telling has many good-sides, though, especially when it earns the like of a possible victim of his 'sticky-fingers.' He always finds it more amusing when they trust him enough after just a few false tales to never even think that he could possibly steal from them. Perhaps it's a mean streak in Aki that makes this so entertaining, he doesn't know, nor does he really care. It works just fine.
Still, with all his traveling, comes the inevitable loneliness. He doesn't deal with loneliness well, unless he's in one of his 'calm, peaceful' moods, in which he's very content with staying by himself. Growing up among people, it was strange for him when he got on his own, when he was alone without knowing anyone. He longs to tell someone about him, anyone—tell of his secrets, his job, anything. Yet, he knows it's silly to wish on such a thing. He deals with loneliness by ignoring it, by doing something to keep his mind off of it, and this usually works out fine until he finds a moment of pause in which it all just comes rushing back to him. This is one reason he loves to be in others' company so much. The more time he spends with others, the less time he has to himself to reflect on things.
Background:
Akimitsu was born into a world of entertainment. His mother, Yui, was a dancer in a place much like an opera house. She wasn't famous, nor was she even very well-known, and her romance with Aki's father was short-lived, especially after he found out she had become pregnant. He had been the investor, one of the owners, of the entertainment house, and his mother was a chorus girl. He had blamed on a fleeting fancy, and within a week, he had been replaced. Or, rather, he had quit, and they found someone else to take his position very quickly there after. Yui was hurt, of course, drastically so, but she had no doubts about her wish to keep the baby. Her friends, also chorus girls, agreed to help raise him. It was late early November by the time he was born, and Yui named him in celebration of the day, her "Autumn Light."
As a baby, he was one of the noisiest things on the planet. He constantly cried and fussed, demanding constant companionship and attention, even in the dead of night. This annoyed the manager to no end, but half of the chorus girls, as Yui did have a lot of friends, threatened to leave if he complained about it, especially if he complained to Yui, as she was reportedly already stressed out enough by him. Aki didn't seem to mind this all, though, and was hardly ever calm unless his mother told directly to hush, which he surprisingly did the majority of the time. A few of the times, however, he was in too much of a bad mood to obey anyone, even when the manager personally snapped at him. He was also known to throw things in his temper-tantrums, though it never did any damage, as he was only an infant and couldn't even carry most things, so the worst the manager would get was a slight bump on the head from a wooden doll or such.
By the time Aki was four, he had calmed down a bit, but still had a lot of tantrums, even worse when he began to talk. He especially loved driving the manager up the wall, while his mother was especially proud of birthing such a tyrant. Still, he and the manager had a bit of an understanding. When Aki drove him insane, the manager, whom he called 'Jiji' in insult to his older age, would be allowed to punish him by making him clean up after shows. What Jiji didn't know, however, was that every time Aki was punished, he would steal things while cleaning. They were always little and generally simple things, like sweets or money he found on the ground, but he was stealing all the same. Yui never did find this out, though by the time Aki was five, some of the girls often complained about missing items such has hairbrushes or tips they'd made in their performances. Of course, Aki would always deny he knew anything about it, but, of course, he was young.. and his lying abilities were horrid, so he got caught.
As punishment, Aki was forced to participate in the practices the chorus girls he'd stolen from had to go through every day. Of course, the punishment worked, as Aki hated every moment of it. After a couple of months, with the manager noticing the boy was hating it less and less, his punishment was lifted. He moped around for a couple of weeks before he got over it, which was helped by his mother telling him she would teach him at night. Of course, he liked practicing less when he tried to do a simple move and ended up smashing his nose against the floor, earning a permanent crook. When Aki was ten, the entertainment house went under. All the girls were left for the streets of the village Aki had never even seen until now. He didn't know the name, so after a few days of living homelessly, he asked his mother. The village was called Utaka, located somewhere near the swamps of the Earth Kingdom. Yui got a job at a bar a week after that, two weeks after the House had 'crashed.' Aki was taken care of, and some of Yui's more high-classed friends even let the family borrow books for him to learn whatever it was he needed to.
A couple of months after he had turned thirteen, Yui decided she and a few of her friends from the House would go on tour. She packed up everything they had, along with, at the moment a very confused, Aki, and started off. While traveling, Yui designated her son to be the one in charge of food and money, if he swore not to steal anything. He swore, of course, and he never did steal from the things his mother and her friends made. Food, however, was more difficult to take care of. After practicing a few nights with his mother's things, he assumed he had enough skill to try it out in public. What he didn't count on, however, was that, whenever he had tried it on Yui, she had been either gone, distracted, or asleep. Obviously, it didn't go well. Aki was caught stealing bread by the owner of the stand and promptly chased across town before he finally lost him. Of course, his running got him lost, and he had to spend the night in an alley before he found his mother the next morning. Of course, he got an earful of lectures about stealing and running.
The next few years, they traveled over almost every point on the map, and even entertained wanderers on the roads if they ever passed by them. Yui was content that Aki was never again caught stealing from anyone. What she didn't know, was that wasn't because he had stopped. Quite the opposite, in fact, he merely got better. He started to figure out how to dress the part, how to act it. Eventually, he got so bold as to steal from people while he was speaking directly to them. He had his first crush at sixteen, surprisingly, on a farmer boy named Kai. He and his 'merry band of entertainers,' as he called them, had stopped to rest in the farm house. Kai was the first boy his age Aki had ever met, so their friendship was a little strange, especially as Kai continuously called him a 'mama's boy' or simply a girl, in which Aki would always get him back by stealing one of his things and flaunting in his face, which Kai responded with showing off his 'manly' abilities instead of 'prancing around thieving things.' The two bickered and teased back and forth for the week the entertainers stayed there. Their goodbye, however, was surprisingly emotional until Kai commented about his being 'not so bad for a girlie boy,' to which Aki shot back an insult and left, his face aflame and his mother giggling with her friends.
When Aki was seventeen, he was seriously convinced he had read every single educational book in history. Apparently, since their stay with Kai and his family, his mother was convinced that Aki wanted to be the same, educated boy as he was. Even if, as Aki tried to reason, Kai was only educated in a farmer-sense, but she didn't care. She nearly shoved the books down the boy's throat, especially when they stopped for a few days. Of course, Aki appreciated this in the long run, but, as he was rather lazy, he didn't quite like the work to get the intelligence he gathered. A couple of months after his birthday, he asked his mother to be allowed to travel by himself. Of course, she was against the idea, but after a few days of persuasion and often false promises, she reluctantly agreed to let him go. Aki left the next morning, with many thanks to the former chorus girls and his mother, promising to find them, somehow, later in his life. He traveled first to Ba Seng Se, in which he made the mistake of being arrogant to the wrong person, earning him his slash across his face. He was put into jail for about a week and a half for 'disturbing the peace,' and he didn't waste a lot of time after he got out of his cell to leave the horrid city.
He traveled around for a few more months before he settled down in Kei Lan, a place he'd heard was flocking with thieves. Of course, he assumed his business would be quite easy there. It was. His ability to steal increased drastically with such a peaceful town to practice in. He developed another crush, though for a mere day or two, on a passer-by named Kojime. After all, the gold pieces he'd stolen from him were very attractive. A few days after his eighteenth birthday, Aki started to travel again, from town to town, city to city, until he found more peace in the Wilderness during the summer before his nineteenth birthday. Although it wasn't ideal for thieving around, he comforted himself in following travelers around, waiting for them to fall asleep before he stole from them and blamed it on animals.
Sample RP:
It was dark, the moon high in a midnight-blue sky, yet the stars were mostly covered by the passing clouds of black and gray, moving quickly in the breeze. A shift of his weight brought a sound of boots against the delicate shingles, and Aki winced lightly at the sound. It wasn't loud, thankfully, merely irritating. He couldn't risk even the slightest sound, even if it was too quiet to do any harm to his position. He held his breath as he heard the sound of a door open and he leaned back to stay from possible view as he saw someone exit the home from the first floor, front door. It was a woman, judging by the styled hair and fancy dress. Obviously, she could spare a few coins from her collection.
Aki waited a moment to watch her walk away, so slowly. Why was she so slow? His legs were killing him up here! Once he had deemed her far enough away from him, he let himself slide quietly down the shingles and drop to the balcony floor with a gentle thud. Regrettably, there had been a loose shingle in one of the places he slid, around a third of the way up, and it cracked, crashing and clinking noisily 'till it fell and hit the ground. From the railing, Aki could see the woman turn and he ducked behind one of the wooden bars, his breath quick and a nervous and cold sweat on the back of his neck. He waited, closing his eyes, before he decided to turn and check her position. Thankfully, she had turned back around and was again on her way to wherever she had been going. Aki let out a breath, his scarf now hot against his mouth, then stood, taking a knife from his boot and unlocking the door before he entered.
He entered what appeared to be the bedroom, judging by the large, expenseive bed at his left, and cupboard across from the end of it. Aki turned around to close the door, as to not look suspicious by a passer-by, if one happened to come by. He moved softly and quickly to the dresser, first, opening it's broad doors. There had to be at least ten dresses, very expensive looking and gaudy, hung there, and Aki shifted through them quickly, knocking on the back wall to make sure it was solid. Letting out an irritated sigh, he shut the doors, and moved to the four drawers underneath when he heard a sound. Immediately, he stopped, his heart beating quickly against his chest, almost painfully so, and he stood, gripping his knife tightly in his pale hand. He moved softly and slowly to the closed door, pausing at the frame. There it was again, a sort of.. scratching, noise, from the room beyond this one.
Swallowing nervously, Aki took in a breath, counted to three, then ripped open the door to lay his wild eyes on.. nothing. Confused, he let his shoulders drop, hand around his knife, that had been raised, ready to strike, let loose to fall to his side while the hand on the doorknob loosened. “What.. “ Then he felt it, a slick fur against his leg. It took every ounce of self-control Aki had not to cry out in fear before he looked down and let his eyes fall on a.. cat? The animal looked positively delighted to have a visitor, and Aki could hear it's purring from his position nearly a foot away(for that's how far he had jumped). The cat gave a large meow before it set itself on it's rear-end, it's tail flicking lazily back and forth. Aki let out a breath, a feeling of relief rushing over him, before he stepped closer and crouched down to stroke his gloved hand over the creature's smooth head.
“You're going to blow my cover, pretty thing. Honest to heartache, creature, I nearly soiled my trousers.. “
Aki sighed lightly and slid his knife back into the back of his boot and gave the adorable little thing a kiss on top of it's head before he stood and went back to searching. Unsurprisingly, the woman seemed to keep her money in the drawer closest to her bed. Aki counted an exact half of the numerous items and slid them into a small bag around his waste. He raised a hand to wipe off his forehead(difficult, as his scarf covered it fairly well, then glanced at the creature licking itself by the door.
“Classy kitty, aren't we? “
He closed the drawer, then stepped lightly to the cat, shooing it from the room with a quiet good-bye, then shut the door. Cats.. they were worse than guard-dogs in these situations.. Shaking his head, Aki ignored the meows and scratches at the door as he went to the balcony once again, shutting the doors once he was outside. He glanced around to make sure the owner wasn't anywhere near, before he climbed again to the roof, then hopped to a tree branch for his get-away.
