Name: Aang
Age: 12, though technically he is 112
Nation: He was with the Air Nomads, but currently he has no affiliation
Bender?: yes
Physical Appearance: Aang is a bit tall for his age (otherwise Toph is just a midget), standing at 5'2 and possesses a gangly figure that slightly hints at malnourishment. He has lightly tanned skin that is marked with blue arrow tattoos along his arms, feet, and back. Every arrowhead in the tattoo points to his feet, hands, and a large blue arrow imprinted on his forehead that points to his face. He has large, round grey eyes and somewhat large ears that frame his inverted egg-shaped head nicely. By first glance one would thing Aang just some goofy kid, but in reality they would be very incorrect.
Clothing/Armor: Aang wears the traditional attire of the Air temple monks, which entails a high-collared yellow robe, a red-orange sash tied firmly around his waist, red-orange pants beneath his robes, and a small, red-orange shawl that goes over his shoulders and hands around his neck. Aang wears dark brown, almost knee-high black-toed boots with a black ring circling the ankles. He usually keeps his pants and the ends of his robes tucked into his boots. His sleeves have red-orange rings that circle his wrists and elbows.
Weapons: Besides his bending abilities, Aang’s main weapon is a long, brown-colored wooden staff that also doubles as a glider. The staff stands about a foot and a half taller then him and is made of wood. When it extends into a glider, there are several parts to its construction. It consists of two wings, both painted a deep crimson. The staff itself serves as a spine for the wings while the wings themselves are supported from the spine by several stems that connect the spine to the wings. The first wing is large and is supported by eight stems (four stems per side of the spine) while the tail wing, which is at the very end of the staff, is supported by two stems (one stem per side of the spine). Aang usually uses his air bending to create wind currents beneath the wings in order to help him glide.
Personality: Aang is a very happy-go-lucky, playful soul that loves a good time. He enjoys making the people around him smile and likes a good joke. He is very loyal to those he loves and will protect them with all his might, and he can get quite serious at times when the situation calls for it. He is determined, though sometimes his personal enjoyment and satisfaction will interfere with work he may have to do. He can be stubborn to a fault and doesn’t like being lonely, and doesn’t like being separated from the ones he loves. He is very clever, and is not bashful about lying if it is for the greater good (and sometimes personal gain, though he does tend to have a guilty conscience). Aang has a short temper and a naive outlook on life, despite having wisdom beyond his years. He has a strong love for animals and has made it a hobby to attempt to ride any beast he can find (and hopefully won’t make him lunch). He is a vegetarian and hates seeing animals being mistreated. And though he is but a child, Aang is somewhat wise beyond his years despite his hunger for mischief.
Aang has a bit of a temper that sometimes blocks his better judgement, but he always manages to calm down and pulls through for every one.
Background:
Aang left his home for the Southern air temple when he was very small, and so has very few recollections of his mother. He grew up under the tutelage of the air bending monk Gyaotso and became quite close with him, almost as if they were flesh and blood. The two would practice together, play pai sho together, and create mischief together whenever they could. After Aang learned he was the Avatar, Gyaotso tried his best to have his colleagues treat Aang like a normal child. However, the other monks saw their teacher-student bond as a threat to Aang’s training and decided to send Aang away to the Eastern Air Temple. Aang had been eavesdropping on the monks’ meeting and once he learned of the bad news, he ran away in anger.
While flying over with Appa, a flying bison, in the Southern waters, Aang became lost and was knocked into the sea due to a very bad storm. He and Appa would have drowned if he hadn’t transferred into the Avatar state while in the murky depths of the water. While in the Avatar state, Aang sealed himself and Appa in an iceberg in order to save himself, but unfortunately was imprisoned in the ice for 100 years.
Then one day, a Southern tribe water bender by the name of Katara lost her temper and accidentally released Aang and Appa from their icy cell. Since that day, Katara, Sokka, and Aang have been nearly inseparable and have been traveling together. Though Aang is still his old goofy self, he is now ready to carry the fate of his world on his shoulders.
Sample RP:
Aang stretched his arms towards the mid-afternoon sun, enjoying the warmth it was pouring upon his skin. It had been such a long while since he and his friends were able to relax. It had just been traveler’s luck that they had found this small paradise in the forest of the Earth Kingdom, away from prying golden and brown eyes and all theirs to bask in. Sokka and Katara were in the water, doing separate things but still relaxing.
Sokka’s hopeless attempts of catching dinner was deriving merry laughs from Katara as she practiced her water bending. Momo was lazing on a tree branch that hung just above the water and didn’t seem to notice he could very easily fall into the shallow depths, though Aang knew if his furry little friend fell it would only provide one very cold bath. Appa was still sleeping peacefully within the comfort of the shade, snoring rather loudly.
"Hey, Katara!"
Aang ran eagerly up a slope whose edge dangled over the beautiful pool of water, close to where Sokka was drifting. The young monk had a mischievious smile upon his face as he suddenly crouched low to the ground. Katara looked up at Aang and suddenly had a look concern upon her lovely features.
"Watch this!"
Before the water bender could protest, Aang leapt off the edge and tucked his legs into his body, shouting "CANNON BALL!" and striking the water with an impossible force that he no doubt made larger using his air bending abilities. An impressive wave rippled through the water and swelled over Sokka, toppling over him before he could escape. Aang arose, laughing happily and attempting to shake some of the water from his ears.
"Ha ha, sorry Sokka!"
