Name:[/b] Katara
Age:[/b] Fourteen
Nation:[/b] Previously Southern Water Tribe
Bender:[/b] Yes [Master Water Bender and Healer]
Physical Appearance:[/b] Alright, let’s take it from the top! Katara is a young girl, but already her rare beauty, which is unique to the water tribes alone, has blossomed. Her hair is a result of much hard labor, caring for it tenderly as it grew so long, that it extends down to her tailbone. That is, when it is loose. However, she finds it more comfortable to keep it tied, in a fashion uniquely hers. Katara’s hair is deep, dark brown, silky and easy to maneuver. She has split her hair down the center of her hair, parting it into two sections. Now, at the base of her neck, she has fashioned her hair in a very peculiar way. Taking a cylinder pin, which is four inches long, she has rolled her hair around it, until the sides of the roll, including her rolled hair, reaches a diameter of about three inches. Now, the extra hair that would not fit on the roll spouts from beneath the pin. To keep it from slipping off the pin, the hair is woven into a tight braid. The braid is long, reaching just above her hips, where the final two inches of hair are unbraided, and held together by a navy blue hair band. Now, let us back track to the pin roll. From either side of the pin, there are two strands of hair that are pulled from the roll, and appear to be growing from the side of the pin. Now, rather than leaving the hair strands there, they loop around, and are attached to two tan clips. These clips are buttoned the peak of her hair above her forehead, so the strands appear as two loops on either side of her head. They are loose enough so that when she moves, the loops move with her.
Now, descending past her hair, we reach her face. Her skin is light brown in color, a trait of the water tribes, and native to the north and south pole people. Her ears, average size, sit upon her perfectly curved cheeks, which bend inward gently until they meet in the center of her face at her semi-pointed chin. Her eye brows mimic that brown color of her hair, and are set high on her head, more broad at the section of brow closest to her nose, and then slimming as you extend towards her ears. Set two inches below her eyebrows are her gorgeous eyes, and the term gorgeous is not used lightly. Her eyes are, like her hair and skin, unique to the water tribes. The iris of her eyes is reminiscent of the open blue seas of her home, sparkling every hue of blue, but retaining a navy hue. Her pupils, like a buoy in that sea, sit in the center of the iris, narrow but inviting. Her eyelashes are very feminine in appearance, and bold to accent the light color of her eyes. Her nose is petite, in the center of her face. Right below are her lips, thin and dark. She has a beautiful smile, broad and warm. Her neck extends down from her head, to her narrow shoulders, which roll perfectly into her arms. More long than muscular, her arms and frame are delicate, but not thin. She is well built, and in shape. Her legs are long also, her body all together tall. She is very much built for water bending, with petite features, and not overly muscular limbs for more delicate movements.
Clothing & Armor:[/b] Katara might be a drifter, but there is one thing that would allow a person to assume she is or was previously a citizen of the Souther Water Tribe. Ah yes, you guessed it, her attire. We’ll start with what is definitely the most important piece of her attire, and perhaps her most prized possession. The pendant on her neck was given to her by her mother right before she died, and is considered almost a family heirloom. She is always seen wearing it, and never removes it, in fear she will lose her last remaining bit of her mother. The pendant itself is a silver medallion about the size of a half dollar. Carved in the metal is the water bending symbol. The pendant hangs from the edge of a blue necklace made out of simple leather dyed blue. The leather is tight, and wraps quite snuggly around her neck, and rests atop her collarbones. Blanketing her torso is a thick, heavy robe. It is made of animal skin, because they made their own clothes in the water tribes out of animals they caught. The robe is blue in color, with a grayish tint. The sleeves extend in a t-shirt fashion, ending between her elbow and shoulder. Her arm is bare, the skin exposed, until you reach her elbow. From her elbow to her wrist, her arm is wrapped in bandages, which are deeper blue in color than her robe. Ah yes, let us further investigate her robe. The edges of her robe are lined with white animal fur, soft to the touch. The left side of her robe overlaps the right, so rather than having a zipper running down her chest, a single piece of material covers both her breast. The robe follows quite close to her skin, but it ends at her hips, where she wears a belt of that same white animal fur. The belt is five inches in width, and is mainly used to keep her loose robe from getting her way of bending. A secondary feature the belt serves is the hiding place for her small canteen. The canteen is made of many layers of leather, and holds a small amount of water that serves as a weapon whenever there isn’t a significant body of water near her. She keeps this tucked in the belt, on her right hip. Coming from the belt, and an extension of her robe, are two slabs of cloth acting as a skirt, but not connected at her sides. The material is, again, that same blue coloring, and is long enough that it ends just above her ankles. Lining the bottom is extremely thick white animal hair. All of clothing is thick enough so that she can withstand the harsh conditions of her homeland. However, no pants? That would be a problem. But alas, there is one bit of clothing that still needs to be explained. Katara wears thick gray pants loose on her leg, but now baggy. They are tucked into her boots, which, to keep in the warmth, are lined in white fur. The boots themselves are lighter blue in color, with the soles a darker blue. They keep out water, obviously, but unlike boots, they are more lightweight, and allow her more easy movement than would heavier shoes.
Weapons:[/b] Nah.
Personality:[/b] Katara is the mature, motherly figure of the group, acting the most adult out of Aang, Toph and Sokka, despite her brother being the elder of the two. Katara’s heart is kind, forgiving, and bears the extraordinary capacity to forgive. She can forgive just about anybody for wrongs they previously committed, so long as she can see that they are at least considering whatever wrong they had done in the past. However, if the person is totally not sorry for their wrongs, she tends to become angered. This is when her rather short temper comes into play, which is when she is most dangerous. Usually kind and merciful, if you get on her bad side, her strength and power seem to soar to new heights. In those rare moments where she becomes truly angry, her outbursts of words are accompanied by titanic water bending feats. The water bending performed now is strong enough to burst icebergs, but very rarely does she ever actually practice this on people. He heart is too kind to attack anybody who doesn’t deserve it. Her heart is far too caring, so much so that she puts others before herself. Especially with her friends and family, whom she is very dedicated to, and would voluntarily rush into danger if for their sake. She is also very dedicated to her duties, being a very serious about anything business oriented, which has also lead to her being totally oblivious to Aang’s crush for her, because she often associates Aang with serious business. On another note, she can become somewhat bossy and controlling when things become serious. She definitely takes up the role as a leader, even if she is a little overbearing. Because she often believes that her own opinions or ideas are better than anybody else’s’, and will refuse to even consider any other opinions. She is merely ‘passionate’ of her goal, which can be reflected in her ability to water bend. Because there was not a suitable teacher in the South Water tribe, she had to teach herself. Because of her major sense of justice, she has always longer to become a water bending master to save her tribe. Katara is very touchy when it comes to her mother, who died when she was still young. She can be brought to tears if she is reminded too much of her. She also misses her father dearly, but has managed to hold onto one family member, her brother Sokka. Though he is over protective of her, and argues with her, she has a deep love for him.
Background:[/b] It would be a single after the birth of their son Sokka that Hakkoda and his wife would bare another child, this time a girl. She would be named Katara, and would be raised in the harsh conditions of the South water tribe, where the weather was anything but merciful for the newborn. However, they didn’t need to live in a warm place for their family to be comfortable. Life was good growing up, with their mother spending much time with Katara and Sokka, nurturing them like any good mother while their father went off about his warrior business, being the man of the house. They were an inseparable bunch, and at age five Katara and Sokka began to separate somewhat, venturing from each other and exploring their own likes and dislikes. In other words, they were still siblings, but now they tended to stray from each other to hang out with other children of the village. Katara discovered her ability to water bend at this age, but alas, there was nobody to teach her. And, while her father and her tribe were ecstatic of her talent, they could do nothing but let her talent become latent. To occupy more of her time, they taught her to cook, mainly with fish, which is how she grew into such a good cook. And so Sokka wouldn’t become jealous of the time Katara spent with her mother cooking, he went off with his father to learn to become a warrior. When she was eight, her mother felt it was the right time to give her a pendant, one that her own mother had given unto her. Katara took it, and wore it as if without it she would die. Little did she know, it would become much more valuable to her in just one short month. Because, in that month, the tribe would be flipped upside down and torn from its roots. The fire nation had sailed into their village, and began to tear it apart. They were searching for nothing in particular, and so went about the task without any contempt for the people. The entire tribe, or at least the men, retaliated, attacking the fire nation army, which was far stronger than the water tribe. They battered the men around, and eventually moved onto the shelters that shielded the children, elders, and women. Katara had been in one tent in particular, with her brother and mother. Her mother was burnt when she herder her children from the fire nation soldiers. A few hours after the attack, the remaining couple of water tribe survivors met deep in the icy land. They struggled to survive, Katara’s grandmother, Kana, tried her best to heal the wounded. Their mother was among one of the most injured, and within a few days, she passed away.
Katara had lost her mother, and was the one who seemed most effected by it. A deep wound on her heart formed from the loss of her best friend, and for a week she would refuse to speak with anybody. She would simply cry and sob, latching onto her pendant necklace as if the harder she held it, the more of a chance her mother would be brought back to life. However, after many days, the pity of her brother and father coaxed her into a person somewhat like what Katara had been before the fire nation attack. She adopted the jobs her mother had once done, leaving her no time to practice water bending, which was a heavy weight for her to carry. She developed a dream that one day she would become a master water bender to save her tribe. However, it didn’t seem that her dream would be fulfilled any time soon. Their tribe, which had been reduced to but a few members, needed her more. And so, she focused all her energy on taking care of her family. Though, the idea would not be dismissed. Whenever she got a moment of reprieve, she would practice, her abilities growing as she taught herself what she could. The rest of the tribe didn’t see much in Katara’s water bending, because it was thought that only males could be benders, and the women were not supposed to fight. However, her father told her that she would bring hope to them, no matter what they said of her. She aimed to please her father, but when she was twelve, she would come to realize that would never happen. The earth kingdom had sent requests for water tribe warriors to help in the fight against the fire nation. Her father left, leaving Katara with Sokka and her grandmother, her last two family members. She was depressed, but this time dealt with it better. She was older and more mature than she had been when her mother died, and realized how lucky she was to have her brother still with her. In the next two years, their lives would continue as normally as could be. Sokka and Katara grew into fine young adults with the guidance of their grandma Kana. One day, when Katara was fourteen, she and her brother had ventured into their icy home on a spear fishing expedition, to find none other than an air bender named Aang stuck within an iceberg. After freeing him, they discovered he was the avatar, the one who was supposed to bring peace to the nations. Aang was supposed to learn how to bend all four of the elements, which was a shared goal of Katara’s, at least in the case of water bending. And so, she and her brother would set out on a journey with Aang, riding the wind on his flying bison and following destiny.
((I purposely stopped writing her history at this point, partly because one, I don’t want to kill you all with an overly long-winded bio, and two, because generally it is already known what her history was like beyond this point. However, if you want me to write on, I have no problem doing so…))

The village was quiet and quaint, with that heir of warmth between the citizens that coaxed passer bys into a false sense of tranquility. Why, with such a kind town, the word of war seemed non-existent. The sun was bright against her dark skin, warming her face and lifting her dampened spirit. Sokka was just getting on her last nerves back at the site; she just needed a moment for herself away from the boys… and Toph. Her deep blue eyes, like an ocean beneath the magnificent sky, sparkled as a small smile lit her face. She couldn’t stay mad, especially with such gorgeous weather. She brought a single hand to the back of her neck, giving the braid a toss and tilting her head to further enjoy herself. However, the silence was shattered, like glass against concrete, as the screaming of a child sounded. Her eyes widened, that motherly instinct tacking the wheel as she pivoted on her heels, spinning until her eyes beheld a small boy, sitting on the ground and grasping his knee. It was obvious he tripped, and now there was a nice gash in his skin. Katara ran over to him, kneeling down. He seemed more frightened than delighted, and in his panic he began to back up. “No, it’s ok, I can help.” She said calmly, her hands hovering to her right side. A nearby puddle began to rumble, until the water had formed a mass and was spiraling through the air. She wove the water for a moment with her fingers, the young boy forgetting he was even injured for the moment, his copper eyes lost in trance. She pressed the water against his leg, and the blood began to soften, until it disappeared. He looked up at her, his smile broad, exposing several spots in his gum where teeth were absent. Before she could even finish, he leapt up, and gave her a quick, tight hug. The water splashed to the ground, and before she realized what happened, she was embraced. The boy ran off, and Katara stood, a broad grin on her face. There was always time to help those in need, and it made her heart glow when they thanked her so.
