Master Pakku came out of his quarters and looked at the rising sun casting its light upon the ice city of the North Pole. Shai City was a magnificent city. Every building, every little piece of architecture seemed to be carved and made with gentle care and time. This is what made Shai, distinguishable from many of the Earth Kingdom’s cities and even the Fire Nation’s as well. Shuen, the capital city of their sister tribe, now lay in ruins when word got out of a Fire Nation raid. Since then, the Northern tribe had lost contact with their sister tribe in the South.
The many fountains and canals of Shai still fascinated him. Reminiscing of his childhood races with his best friend Nikko, they would race along the canals of the city by making enormous waves for each of them and riding atop them. They had been scolded many times because of this. Gondolas had been pushed aside onto the walkways of the canals, because of their wreck less races. Pakku laughed at this memory. He turned and spotted the same fountain, where he met his old crush, Kana. She had left and it had broken his heart till this very day. He became a grump because of this sad event in his life. He did not understand why she left and this memory had made his face go back to his typical stern expression.
The sun was rising rather quickly. Pakku had begun to focus his energy into his Chi, breathing in and out deeply while also focusing on a water skin that he had pulled from a near by fountain. He had to prepare for his first waterbending class that morning. The first class, were usually children with these special abilities, however in their tribe, boys were only allowed to take these fighting lessons with him, while girls with waterbending abilities went to Yugoda for healing lessons. Of course, at this young age, they would not be taught to fight but rather to focus on their energy and alignment in their waterbending skills.
Pakku could hear the city awake in the morn after a brief moment of silence. He could hear the beginnings of a bustling harbor down the many canals. “This fish market is open”, he thought to himself, while still practicing his bending.
