Nam Ha Lein Stood in his typical fighters stance in the snow and ice of the sparing arena. His right leg was set back in an L stance with his throwing axe at eye level, the blue bed in the pommel casting a sad glow on the ground as the rising sun shown through it. Under his tunic he wore a thick leather guard that covered his torso, neck, and calves. His brother Stood in a walking stance only a few yards away. he held his Scimitar at the same hight as Nam held his axe. The silver glint on the blade showed it had never shed blood and it was as pure as the boy who held it.
"Ready?" Thinh called to Nam, quickly tucking a jade pendent into his tunic. His voice carried across the empty arena, echoing in their cold ears. They had set aside their parka's well aware that the fighting would render them needless.
"Always!" Nam called back. His voice carried like his brothers. His foot moved slightly forward, the snow crunching beneath him. Seconds of silence passed before they both let out a battle cry and ran at eachother. They both smiled, the fact that they were fighting with sharp objects and they thought of what could be done with them far from their minds. A clash of metal on metal echoed and the boys laughed. The executed move after move at a lightening pace. One attacking, one blocking, over and over, back and forth.
They did this for more than an hour. The sound of the metal becoming part of their natural surroundings, the constant precense of adreniline in their veins just making them smile more. The sun rose steadily, creeping it's way into they sky, turning the night into a perfect day. It brightened the snow, imparing their vision, but still they went on.
The sun was finally fully over the distant mountains when everything seemed to fall silent. Even the clash of metal was muffled to a point were it seemed like it wasn't there. Nam was thrown back by his brothers parry attack and in a whil of complexity and confusion Nam let his axe fly with a loud cry. Through the mist of powdered snow he heard it. The sickening sound of his axe hitting flesh. Once steadied on the icy ground Nam turned back to his brother to see him knelling on the ground hands at his stomache.
"Thinh!" Nam ran to him, sliding across they ice on his own knees, he cuaght him before he fell completely to the ground. "Thinh, what the heck happened?!" Nam was hestarical. His own axe protruded from his brothers stomache, blood leaked from the wound staining his blue tunic a sick black color.
"Sorry brother." They both looked at his torso. And Nam noticed what had happened, his brother hadn't worn his armor.
"Thinh, you idiot! what were you thinking?!" Tears filled Nam's grey eyes as he watched his brothers blood stain the white snow at his knees.
"I thought I could take you, never-" He cut himself off with violent coughing that caused a trickle of blood to crawl from his mouth down his chin. "Never thought you would pull a move like that." He finished smiling, after his coughing fit had passed. As Nam just looked at Thinh unbalievably his sight rested on his eyes. Thinh gave one last weak laugh before they light from his blue eyes drifted away completely.
"THINH!" Nam held his brother close, tears rolling down his face.
He didn't know how long he cried or how long he held his dead brother. Everything blured together causing a incoherent stream of images. Some, what must have been hours later, he was miles away. Blood covered his own tunic and face, his axe and his brothers Jade charm in his hands. Tears still trickled down his face, worsening his already red and raw cheeks. "Good bye, Thinh." He looked from the charm to the distant city before he continued walking. He didn't know where he was going, but he couldn't stay there anymore, not after he had killed his own brother.
