Name:Fire Lord Ozai, Supreme Lord of the Fire Nation
Age: 43 (Wild guess…)
Nation:Fire Nation
Bender?:Yes
Group: Fire Nation Military (Leader)
Physical Appearance:
At first glance, one would retain the feeling that Ozai had an intimidating figure, tall and majestic. In reality…this is all the truest. Tidy, raven black hair fells down from Ozai’s head, ending where his spine ends. Always combed, not a single hair falls onto his forehead. The only disruption of this straightness is the topknot, curled up into a perfect ball, as Ozai likes it. Despite Ozai’s hardiness from battle, he sports no scars upon his face, although much of the color from his younger face has left him. Golden eyes shine, and are quite readable. One look can tell the watcher is Ozai is pleased or disappointed, much of the reason Ozai prefers not to speak. His mouth is neither curved into a smile nor a frown, and never waivers. Those who have had the opportunity to see his pearly teeth are either extremely lucky or extremely unlucky. He also has a pointed bead, falling down a couple inches from the bottom of his chin.
Many years of both being in the fire nation’s militia as well as royal training have given Ozai the body he needs to effectively command the fire nation. Strong and finely sculpted, when Ozai gives an order, much of the reason for automatic acceptance is because of his physical strength. His legs are athletic, although he has very little need to walk, and his hands slightly tough and dry, although still very deadly.
Clothing/Armor:
Always dressing royally, the Fire Lord’s diadem is always seen on Ozai’s topknot, even in battle. It is not so much as a fashion style, but reminds anybody who looks at it that Ozai is the supreme authority, lest they forget it. A crystallized ruby, with golden trimming, it is clearly fitting for the Fire Lord to wear. During court, he often wears a scarlet robe, only one simple layer, as are most of his ensembles. Though he is the fire lord, he has never found a reason to wear excessive layers. He thinks of himself first, his comfort, not the stuffy clothing of a lord. The robe, however, is fit for royalty. Trimmed golden on all sides, the golden thread even has bits of various jewels and precious stones embedded, Ozai’s favorite being the ruby. It also has the embroidery of a large dragon.
At other times in the day, his clothing can be various, although he makes it his responsibility never to wear a single one twice. After wearing it one time, it is thrown away, unless it contains memories Ozai does not wish to depart with. These include a robe given to him by Ursa, and a fine hat given to him by his daughter, Princess Azula, during one of his former birthdays. Of course, there are times when Ozai must wear excessive layers of clothing. He does this during meetings with his courts, although he wore it the most before he was fire lord, as to give his father and his grandfather, a good impression of him.
Weapons:
Ozai’s greatest and most feared weapon is his firebending. Achieving levels of this art many would not dream of achieving, Ozai is entrusted with the incredible gift of lightning. His fire attacks are swift, and his normal fire colors often range from red, to a pure white, to a dark blue, most often being the latter. He also likes to toy around with his fire sometimes, creating new techniques. His favorite is combining the power of lightning with a small amount of blue fire, creating an amazing effect. Although this may be used for entertaining purposes, Ozai does not think of it this way. He believes it to be an effective use of finishing somebody off, while still making it a spectacle.
In addition to this firebending art, Ozai is a master at several forms of martial arts, also combination these different arts together to create a superb defense force. He often does not use these, but the Fire Lord also has a stash of weapons in the main armory of the Fire Nation’s palace. He practices little with these, but when he does, it reminds anybody who watches that Ozai is not one to be trifled with.
Personality:
Ozai is a hard man, unforgiving and untrusting. In this world, he trusts only a handful of people; some do not even include his own army’s generals. Years of being the Fire Lord have made Ozai very brutal as well, mercilessly ordering hundreds of people to die every day. In addition, Ozai’s mind is always working, even when he is sleeping. His plans every word he is going to say days before he says them, so to speak, and every step he takes has been planned to the most minuscule detail.
Although these details make it seem like Ozai is a perfectionist, he is not. He allows space for little mistake, and as long as that gap is not made too wide, his anger will not show. However, be warned that it is very easy to make the gap wider. To those whom the Fire Lord favors, including his own Princess Azula, to current information, the late Princess Ursa, a few generals, and some lords in his court, he provides the best. He allows them certain privileges in the Fire Nation, as well as showering them with even more gold and even to help find suitable husbands for some ladies in the court. However, recently, he has found himself much to busy with the changing tides of war than to deal with such frivolous matter.
Background:
Even as a young boy, Ozai was always jealous of his elder brother, Iroh. Iroh’s first flame was burned when Ozai was born, and as Ozai grew, he also developed his bending powers, although it seemed Iroh’s were always better. In addition, it seemed that Ozai’s father, the late Fire Lord Azulon, also favored Iroh instead of Ozai. Frustrated during his childhood years, Ozai pushed himself even more in a feeble attempt to master his firebending powers even above his brothers. Also, as a young boy, Ozai was very interested in his grandfather’s work, the late Fire lord Sozin.
Because of being the “second-favorite” of his father, Ozai spent most of his time with his mother, very much like the personality that rubbed off onto his first-born, Zuko. His mother, also, was very much like the supposedly dead Princess Ursa, caring and overprotective, part of the reason why he fell in love with Ursa. Unfortunately, his mother passed off a year before Azulon. During his childhood, he also attended the Royal Military Academy, as did all other men in his family. There, he spent much time learning discipline, as well as tactics of war. It was at home that he was privately tutored on the finer arts of being a prince. Some of these included a ballroom style of dancing, etiquette, and the last, which Ozai detested the most, drama.
When Ozai turned 13, he learnt the ins and outs of the Fire Nation’s government, including its militia. His brother, already being an adult, was enlisted in the army, and led a small squadron of soldiers already. Furious and aggravated, Ozai pleaded his father to assign him some firebending teachers. Azulon agreed, and Ozai was assigned the firebending twins Lo and Li. They were notably younger, but still were masters of the flame. For the next 20 years, Ozai trained with them, achieving ranks of power he thought even Iroh could not reach, including the art of conjuring lightning from his fingertip. He was sadly mistaken.
Iroh was older now, and wiser. He had traveled to each of the remaining three nations, learning their techniques. He had even learnt the art of channeling lightning on such a journey. It was at this time that Ozai’s feelings for his brother were sealed. No matter what he did, Iroh was always one step ahead of him. In his anger, he challenged Iroh to an Agni Kai. Iroh was firm in his answer, no. He would not attack his own brother, so Ozai called him a coward, hoping to seem better in his father’s eyes. His father, however, was pleased at Iroh’s answer. Whilst Ozai took after his grandfather, Azulon and Sozin were very different. Reluctant to quit his feud with his brother, Ozai continued his training, this time, traveling just as Iroh had.
It was during one of these travels that Ozai met us with who would soon be his future wife, Ursa. She was one of the ladies of the court, and her father was a powerful lord in the court. The two met as Ozai departed, and continued to keep in touch as Ozai finished his adventures across the nations. Finally, three years later, they were engaged, and married not long after. They soon had a child, a boy, whom they named Zuko, and a few years later, a small girl Azula, named after her grandfather. During this time, Iroh had married few years before, and had set out on his adventure to break down the walls of Ba Seng Sei. The siege lasted for over one year, almost two, but Iroh’s son; Lu-Ten fell on the battlefield, and Iroh’s forces pulled out.
Ozai immediately saw the chance for him to become the fire lord, instead of Iroh. Azulon was in good health, but this may have been the only chance that Ozai got, so he immediately claimed it. Requesting a presence with his father, Ozai explained that Iroh’s bloodline ended, so there would be no heir to the throne when Iroh died. All seemed to be going well for Ozai, and Azulon was about to agree with him, until Ozai called Iroh a coward. Ozai does not know why, but this made Azulon very angry, and he refused to give Ozai the throne.
It was not long after, however, that the Fire Lord Azulon died, and his last requests were that Ozai be the next Fire Lord. Along with this, Ozai’s wife, Ursa, had gone missing, Ozai remained very smug about this, not saying a word, although every time news of Azulon’s sudden death was mentioned, a small smile formed on Ozai’s face, as If he had something to hide. The coronation was planned immediately, and Ozai was soon made Fire Lord. For the first few months of his reign, however, he remained somewhat sad, and sent numerous search parties out for Ursa, as if he knew she wasn’t dead, but each time the search parties came back with nothing.
Ozai continued to be the Fire Lord, and called his former instructors, the twins Lo and Li, to teach his favorite child, Azula. He had done this only after banishing Zuko however, who had first dishonored his own war council and then the royal family, by refusing to fight at an Agni Kai, similar to that of Iroh. However, Ozai was not all mean, he gave Zuko an opportunity to reclaim his honor, by capturing the avatar. This, however, was nearly impossible, as the avatar was missing for over one hundred years.
Currently, Ozai is busy with the plans of war, as he attacks the other nations, in hope to finally claim the entire ava-verse in the name of the Fire Nation. This is a dream started by his grandfather, whom he will soon pass on, if not already completed, for Sozin’s comet is soon to return, and using its power, yet another nation will be united with the air nomads.
Sample RP:
Ozai sat on his throne, awaiting news from one of his war ministers. His fingers drummed the rests of his golden throne, his mind waiting impatiently for the news. He had not bothered to attend the war conference today, he had “other” matters to attend to, his night’s rest for one. It’s not that he isn’t interested in the discussions, but for the last few weeks the only discussion has been about planning some attack on someplace, every time it has been changing. The generals and warlords simply cannot make up their mind. If it was up to Ozai, he would pick the place of attack.
Wait…it was up to him! A small chuckle escaped Ozai’s lips, as he humorously thought of firing all of the current generals and replacing them. He’d do that once they became useless, that wouldn’t be too soon from now. Light footsteps reached Ozai’s ears, soon to become even louder, and the doors to Ozai’s throne room opened immediately. A man immediately bowed, without even looking at Ozai, his presence was enough.
The man slowly stood up, and bowed his head once more. “Lord Ozai,” he began, his voice trembling, yet only slightly. The Fire Lord was very perceptive of these things. “I come with word from the war council.” The man’s hand, now drained of all it’s color, slowly rose, still trembling. Ozai’s mouth turned into a small frown, and snatched the scroll away from him.
He waved his hands, “dismissed.”
Ozai walked away, yet he did not hear the footsteps of the man leaving. “My lord,” The man began, forgetting to bow once more as he spoke again. Ozai turned around, and glared at the man. “The other council members have decided to ask you to attend the discussions from now on…”
The Fire Lord’s mouth curved even deeper into a frown, then softened. A half-smile hung now on his face, though it was not pleasant to look at. The fore lord reached out his hand, awaiting a handshake. The war minister paused for a moment, and then shook Ozai’s hand. Instantly, Ozai closed his hand, and fire erupted from it, burning the minister’s hand. “Tell them…no. I take orders from nobody. Don’t forget that again.”
