Name: Kyuen Jianjun
Age: 30
Gender: Male
Group: Earth Kingdom Soldiers
Nation: Earth
Bender?: yes
Physical Appearance: Kyuen stands at a stocky five foot seven, not to tall not to short for a man his age, his body is neither flabby nor ripped though he may wish he had the latter. The mans entire body is covered in a sandy earthen skin tone darkened from an ivory by the light of the sun, a definite tan line appears on his forearms and his neck line because of his insitance on wearing a shirt, the intensity of the tan line depends on the seasons coupled with how much time he spends outside. His shoulders are about average built, a wisp away from feminine narrowness with his neck taught, connecting with his head forming a definite jaw line.
Kyuen's face is boxish, like his fathers was, a wide jaw moving into a subtly broad chin covered with an equally boxish black soul patch. The man has thin and yet wide lips, pulling into a smile smirk or a silly expression on every whim. Under neath his teeth are a little less than perfect, egg shell white, a dull shade though most of his teeth are straight aside from an incisor that came in wrong giving him a fang like tooth on the right side. His nose is broad moving up between his eyes, set deep into his face with a forest green pair of irises. His eyebrows match the angular pace of his head, his face is extreamly expressive with his eyebrows arching and creasing together at the slightest comment or action. When his eyebrows are furrowed together a small wrinkle appears in the middle of his forehead making it easy to see when he is confused or concentrating. Kyuen's ears are medium sized yet that seem perminantly fixated close to his jaw instead or arching forward as some do.
A slightly high forehead gives way to evenly cut medium length black hair, when not on duty is hangs lazily about his skull, cut in pace with his jaw line, when on duty it's kept up in a topknot, held in place with some jade cloth, save for a lock hanging on the righ side of his face that seems to never stay where it's told.
His arms are well toned, with definite muscle definition to them but only enough to get him through training and the daily needs of his life. A small amount of hair grows along the length of his arms but since he doesn't shave it the hairs are a light almost non visible shade. Well built arms give way to large warm hands calloused from work, the fingers are long yet stocky and the palms are broad, it's hard to not find at least a small layer of dirt under his fingernails which are kept short and trimmed at the very least. On the back of his hands dimples form when he stretches them out, like those one his face when he laughs too much.
The mans chest is even, his pectorals are nothing to write home about, his stomach lacks the extreme definition hard core soldiers go for, instead he has a cut down his center and some lines where his muscles separate from his ribs. At about his naval he has some light nearly skin toned hair creating a small happy trail down to another section of his body. Kyuen's hip bones are slightly pronounced against his torso and lead down to equally stocky legs with the same amount of hair as his arms and a similar muscle definition. If anything his legs are more toned then the rest of his body, his feet though are even sized for his build, nothing spectacular there, like his finger nails it's hard to keep dirt out from under his toe nails, but a man is a man, a little dirt never hurt anyone.
Clothing/Armor:While he is first and formost a soldier Kyuen wears the uniform that marks him as such. The terra team wear a done hat, moss green rimmed with a sandy tan with a caramel yellow diamond on the front, surrounded by the sandy tan accent. From the hat a faded kahki cloth hangs about the shoulders leaving space only for the wearers face.
A moss green long sleeved shirt is worn trailing down to Kyuen's thigh, On the front a sandy tan symbol of the earth kingdom is pressed into the versital fabric. The shirt is tucked into the waist of the moss green billowed pants that hang to the calf. A gree gurdle is worn about Kyuen's middle, green with tan trim like the rest od his outfit from the sides a dark green and tan trimmed skirt falls to about the kneecap with a partition in the center giving way for a tipped peice of cloth in the same design as the skirt.
The forest green shirt is gathered into a pair of dusty arm guards from the elbor to the knuckles they cover the wearers arm and provide support for any complex earth bending movements. Around Kyuen's neck a gathered strip of tan fabric covers a neck guard and from this a dark green and tan trimmed mini cloak falls about the shoulders yet again with a partition in the middle.
Lastly on his feet a pair of toeless black boots are worn, wrapped about the bulk of the foot to the knee providing protection for the wearers feet while allowing them to connect to their earth element.
When not on duty the soldiers dress is a little differant. A crossed shirt, forest green in color is worn over his chest, secured at the waist with a black sash, the ends of which are canary yellow. The sleeves of the shirt gather in arm guard like cuffs coal gray in color. His pants are a rich rosy brown, cut to his calf and let loose about his legs. Usually no shoes are worn but when the need is there he wears a pair of X crossed leather sandles that have seen much better days or a pair of riding boots when the terrain to be crossed is a bit rougher.
Kyuen wears a Poncho pointed at the front and the back with the shortest portions at his arms when he is traveling, it's made from thick cloth, lined in various shades of green brown and yellow. The patterns on the strips of fabric vary from simple lines of color to boxed cuts of cloth in various square patterns, with the poncho Kyuen has a cooli hat which is dome shaped, a silk green band connecting under his chin with the bulk of the hat black with a gold rimming to it, studs seperated by a couple inches follow the path of the hat around it's circumferance.
Weapons: Being a soldier a small base knowledge of weapons is essential, Kyuen himself owns a boot knife which is five inches long with a short fitted wooden handle and a dull lusterless blade. Other than that he relies on his bending to secure any sort of combative pursuits he may decide to go through with.
Though he has not been trained with weapons should the need come to use one he'd at least be able to defend himself with anything he may be able to pick up and find in the area though it would be more of a hindrance than any assistance to him.
Personality: Never one to be a downer Kyuen is a rather, happy, open, and friendly guy. He very much goes with the flow of life letting the small things wash off his back though sometimes grudgingly. Always a soldier he marches on knowing that whatever comes next may be better or worse than where he is now but it's inevitable. Military minded he is a can-do hands on sort of person and as such he likes to create things and get them done when they're presented to him. Sitting around and waiting is only a good option for so long but if action isn't taken. Sometimes it can be seen as having a one track mind but taking things one at a time work best for him so why not do it that way?
Like much of his gender there is a soft spot for good women and good food. Though the former is defiantly a little harder to find. His taste in woman is pretty much set in stone, not wanting to be burned again he's interested in "nice girls", those who can cook, clean, and put forth motherly instincts. Stability is a big part of this, not that some curves hurt the picture at all. A little temper and a bit of a challenge are never something he'd back away from but once the feeling of being "the man" is gone he's less than interested.
Ingrained in Kyuen is a healthy respect for authority and a strong sense nationalism. Not a fighter by nature he decided to join the military to help his fellow Earth Kingdom Citizens and defend his family though recently it's been undergoing some distinct changes. Kyuen has the highest hopes for his son, hoping he'll grow up peacefully and happily, get married to a nice girl and have a good strong family. He's a bit defensive of the boy, sometimes smothering him in that aspect. It's hard enough for him to treat his son like a young adult and not a baby. He'd only truely known him as a baby, theres still a lot he needs to learn about the boy.
Though Kyuen doesn't have much of a temper he does find various things that annoy him, when people ignore rules he sets in place he gets a little ornery. The anger he stores up usually comes out in a sarcastic comment or a huff, turning to violence isn't his way, not how he was raised, if he tried to hit one of his friends when he was little he'd expect to get his behind walloped. When he's attempting to sleep and there is noise he gets mildly upset. Usually he's early to be and early to rise, he dislikes over sleeping and hates taking naps though he understands not everyone sees that sort of thing his way. Even though he's not overweight he does have a big appetite and a good tollerance for alcohol so it's unlikely he'll take the path of a drunkard ruled by the drink.
Background: Born an only Child Kyuen had a very uninteresting life. He'd been born in a port town, grew up in the port town, fell in love in the same port town. As a child Kyuen was very chubby. His mother would often laugh pinching her son's cheeks wondering if he'd grow up to be a horse. Still the dimpled baby was happy, somewhat, he didn't seem to mind driving his parents crazy shreiking in the middle of the night, bothering the upstairs residents of the split level home. Of course after a bit of groaning his mother and father would slouch out of the little sleep they managed to get in order to meet the small infants needs. There wasn't much else they could do about it. After a year he started to move onto his normal sleep schedual, he began walking, talking and all other things on time. Nothing very out of the ordinary.
His Fathers job as an accountant for the fisheries became more demanding as Kyuen went from infant to toddler, with his father often away his primary caretaker was his mother who was a house wife. She cooked, cleaned, took care of Kyuen and minded the home. Kyuen loves and feared her for it, the woman was not above spanking her child if he acted out of order and as such Kyuen was very well behaved when she was around. On the occasions Kyuen spent time with his father he often got to slack off on his manners, have a bit more fun, spit, knaw on his fingernails, the typical things little boys loved to do. On Saturdays the family often went to a park with in walking distance of the town, there Kyuen's father would fly a green and golden dragon kite that Kyuen would watch jealously, waiting for the day he'd be old enough to play with it.
Once he was five he began to attend class, walking to the building with his mother in the morning. The first day of school was of course a hassle, Kyuen had not seen much of children his age before so it took two adults to unhitch the child from his mothers skirt, by the end of the day it took two adults to pull him from the building. School was fun for Kyuen, what he had feared turned out to be far from the nightmarish experience his young mind presumed it to be. Quickly he managed to make friends, a group composed of himself, and three boys became inseparable playmates. If Kyuen wasn't at home or at school he was at one of their houses.
Weekend picnics became get together for the parents and the children alike. Kyuen would run with his three friends, avoid the older siblings some of them had and dodge the younger siblings who always wanted to play along with them. Tasuki who was Kyuen's self proclaimed best friend had the majority of the siblings they avoided. Two older brothers, one eldest sister, a younger brother and a younger sister.
With life progressing as it did the days of playing through nap time and writing characters on big sheets of white paper turned into actual school work. Kyuen began to struggle with his classes quickly loosing interest. If not for the social aspect of his schooling he'd have skipped it all together. As typical of a family his parents became concerned with his failing grades and had spats about it now and then. Typically the punishment was grounding or lack of dessert depending how poorly he was doing. Still Kyuen continued to play and mess around with his friends, the group of four became three the summer of his tenth year. With a tearful good by boys bid fair well to one of their friends as his father who was a governor, was transfered to Ba Sing Se. If anything it strengthened the friendship of the remaining three, together they avoided girls, their dreaded cooties and played mild pranks on their neighbors getting caught often enough to warrent a simple roll of the eyes when the adults saw what they were up to.
Puberty hit like a wave taking his two friends down a different path then his own. Tasuki and the other friend were immediately interested in girls while Kyuen was uninterested in the flat class mates his friends drooled over. He began spending less time with them and more time working on his own things. Kite building was a fun hobby he'd picked up from his father, widdling and building things were occupying enough as well. At age thirteen Kyuen picked up a part time job at a shop further draining his time from his friends. Classes were still a struggle for Kyuen, but as long as he worked hard his parents had come to accept that he was a boy who did things his own way.
His friends did all they could to keep in touch with Kyuen and it paided off around fifteen when he came to catch up to his friends, girls were interesting now, not overly so but since the pair had calmed on the subject it was much easier to get involved with them once more. That summer once more, fate drove another friend away. It left Kyuen and Tasuki.
They were teenagers with nothing but their imaginations to stop, week days meant classes, week nights were work as were Saturdays but on Sundays it was common to not see the boys all day until the sunset began and they came home laughing, either drenched, muddy, sandy and sometimes bloody. But boys were boys, one activitiy or another held their attention for long enough that they often forgot their responsibilities that would be back in place the next day.
Sixteen came on rather quickly, Kyuen was shocked to find out his friend was out to join the military. Honestly he'd never thought about the prospect but the more he did the more he settled on joining his best friend. It worried His parents some, they thought he was too young for such a thing but weeks of arguments later both Kyuen and Tasuki were off to training camp. Saying the work was rough would be the tip of the iceberg. Day after day they were worn into the ground, sure, when they were heading in they felt spiffy in their armor and felt like they were carrying the honor of the nation on their backs, but ten laps and thirty push ups later they were about ready to turn the uniforms in and head back home. Unfortunately no one was willing to let either of them do that. Leaning on one another for support they were able to weather the year long basic training they were subjected to.
It came as a heart breaking blow when Tasuki and Kyuen were split up, Tasuki wasn't a bender like Kyuen, the boys needed to head off for specialized training, Kyuen set to his training, without his buddy to goof around with her became a somber soft spoken man. As soon as his training was finished Kyuen found himself to be seventeen and on the battle field. Sure some of the time his unit was deployed for simple guard duty but there was an equal amount of time fighting firenation soldiers, it seemed luck was the only thing that kept him from loosing his life like too many of his fellow soldiers.
Three years later, shortly after he turned twenty that he was out of the service for a year because of a broken arm, he was willing to re-enlist but his comanding officer told him to pick up his life for a while, and to check back in when he was back two hundred percent. So with a heavey heart and an ostrich horse he took off for his home town. Surprisingly not all that much had changed, his parents were more than happy to have their son back, a party was thrown for the boy where he met the love of his life.
It took seconds for the man to notice the girl winding her way through the small crowd. So lithe, young and curvy... most of the night was spent attempting to woo her, the rest was spent apologizing for accidentally spilling his drink on her. Not even a month later the pair was engaged, weeks later they were married, eight months later a baby boy was born and three months later Kyuen was back in the service. The new Mrs Jianjun was now left in a new house alone with the couples infant son Koji.
For Kyuen the love didn't fade, if anything having a child and a wife he loved back in his home town gave him a renewed fire for battle and defending his homeland. When he could he'd come home and spend time with his family, still the majority of the time he couldn't make it but he sent letters in his stead. His wife over the years began to grow spiteful of her husband instead of anxious with worry. She had to take care of the child all by herself, Koji while well behaved was a pain to her, most nights she went to bed alone while her friends were enjoying their husbands and families. With Koji eight and her husband having recently been moved to a unit closer to the capital she found herself a lover. Who kept her company with her husband away.
Kyuen not a year later came home to his wife and her lover, he was confused for the most part as his wife screeched at him, tossing him their son's things and declaring their marriage void since the man was never around. Since she would have a hard time starting her new life with a small mistake their son Koji was placed in Kyuen's care, needless to say it took a few weeks before Kyuen had processed what exactly had happened, it then dawned on him how little he knew about the family he'd started and how little he knew about his own son who was nine and now under his care. With little else to do Kyuen took his son with him back to Ba Sing Se where the two of them lived with Kyuen's aunt and uncle in the lower ring.
Kyuen with his new obligations was switched into a unit closer to the father and son's makeshift home. With a flourishing letter from his commanding officer he was moved into the Terra team. It was a good unit of men, highly trained and efficient as they came. Their commander General Fuen was a charismatic man and as good a leader as they come, he led the terra team for years in the past but after attempting to mobilize the forces of the earth kingdom towards the incoming war he wasn't seen from again. Rumors spread through the troupes that he was taken out by the Dai Li but it didn't make any real difference seeing as a new General was named, Sung was promoted from a clerical position in the Earth King's Palace. Kyuen's opinion of the man wasn't very good, he was well spoken and educated but he just didn't know anything about military tactics, regardless the troupes still guard the wall and the surrounding farming lands as ordered.
Sample RP: Traveling always took a lot out of a man, and as usual there was little to no time to rest, especially not for the weary. A now familure sigh came from behind him but the man had since learned to ignore it soon the talking would come, then he'd attempt to strike up a conversation. " I'm bored..." Came the long awaited reply, the corner of Kyuen's mouth pulled tight as he let the silence draw on for some time before attempting to provide his own Quip.
" We're almost there...."
" You said that HOURS ago." Immediately the man's eyes flickered up to the sun judging how far it had moved and about where it's previous position was, in his mind it all worked out, the last time he asked was about twenty minutes ago. The child wasn't pleased through.
Reflexively Kyuen tightened his grip on the reigns of the ostrich horse and slackened them shortly after just to calm his nerves. The path was only a half days ride to the next town but an hours traveling was too tedious for a child he imagined. No exciting games came to mind, he didn't want to stop and there was little excitement to be had on the dirt ridden road.
Another exasperated sigh came from behind him in the saddle and Kyuen grimaced. Koji had the patience of a baby bird, that is, none at all. " I spy through a spirits eye... something red." Now the child was quiet for a moment, pondering the game, taking it as something less tiresome then sitting and moping he began to look around. "The sun?"
"Nope"
Well this was better than awkward silences.
