Name: Yun (Yoo-un)
Age: 15
Gender: Female
Group: Foggy Swamp Resident
Nation: Earth Kingdom but everyone puts water so.... *Shrug*
Bender?: Yes
Physical Appearance: Yun's face is almost angular and catlike, her jaw is relatively thin set with a button like nose and pouty girlish lips tinted a light mocha rose color. Her cheek bones are well set giving her an inverted tear drop look to her face. Small shell like ears are hardly seen under her mop of hair the right ear with four golden rings tacked on the cartilage of her ears. Her eyes are thick lashed and only slightly tilted upward with a worn dull dusty blue taking the color of her irises. Her eyebrows are thin yet expressive mirroring every pout glare and smirk she lets play across her features. Her thin neck leads down to somewhat broad shoulders with shoulder blades that protrude from her body with a layer of taught youthful skin over top. Her arms have course muscle tone to them with defined triceps and biceps which give her an athletically sporty look, though she has none of the build to them which would make her material to be a body builder. For her age her age she is all together pretty uniform, even her stomach is somewhat cut, not yet a six pack but a few years of growing and training might prove to have some results.
Yun is of average height for a teenager, some may call her somewhat lanky but she just hasn't settled into her body yet. She sports a mildly tanned look due to her time outside though the color is subdued from the filtered light in the swamp. Her lower body and hips are firm and toned from running around the swamp since she was old enough to toddle. Her torso is a tad longer than the shapely proportioned girls with long legs, her arms trail down, nearly two her knees while her legs make up for a little less than half of her body. Her young hips jut out from the curve of her abdomen reaching their widest point near the top of her thighs overall making her seem athletic without much extra girlish weight which would normally contribute to feminine curves. Her legs are somewhat stocky around her upper leg moving to well defined calves and high arched calloused feet pretty average in size. On her right hip she has a freckle that looks like a small splotch of mud, five or six of them find their places on her arms shoulders and neck as well as one on her left shoulder blade.
The swamp girls hair isn't exactly what someone in ba-sing-se would call beautiful but it meets her needs well enough. Her hair is cut at all different lengths. Choppy bangs pull alongside her face hanging to her cheeks on the left side of her head a braid hands down to the top of her chest, this small section being part of the longest portion of her hair. At one point it nearly trailed to her calves but it was sheered short when she was thirteen out of a whi, now the braid hands to her chest in a loose thin and often messy braid. The rest of her hair falls in spiky locks to the base of her neck save for the remaining long strands at the top of her head which are pulled back into a low ponytail, it hands flat against her back with the tie hardly visable, the ends of the hair are sectioned off and tied with brown twine.
Clothing/Armor: There isn't much at all to this young womans clothing design. In the swamp the combination of heat and cultural codes limit the extent of what they wear. Yun herself over her chest has a tube top which is cut rather high since she isn't full matured yet and needs to preserve her youthfull modesty. The light beige material leaves very little to the imagination, the cloth is thick enough to dissuade anything from view should the moist enviorment yield the clothing to be soaked, simple seems up each side keep the cloth together
On her lower body a high cut loin cloth sits, dusty tan in shade with a patter of red and green triangles running along the bottom. The cloth cuts off three inches before her knees and ties on either side of the cloth, a portion travels between her legs and over her backside to prevent anyone from getting a free show. The fabric is some what thick but worn smooth from multiple washings. On the left hip a beaded tassel hands off the tie of the loin cloth, the wooden beads polished smooth and painted red green and one is left brown. On the bottom a frayed bit of twine gives it a decorative tassel.
Around her neck wrapped three times is a long chord with a swamp sharks tooth hanging from some twine, on either side of the tooth are some wooden beads simply for decorative purposes. Her forearms and legs are wrapped in ivory tattered bandages and her left forearm sports two bangles with the one below the other adorned with a tassel like her loin cloths.
On special occasions she finds it in herself to wear a bit more clothing, a long sarong fits the need for this, it's a thick moss colored woven cloth which overlaps and ties at her right hip. Along the bottom of the fabric is a pattern of red swamp flowers with white babies breath pattern splayed behind it, all of which was woven in by her mother in making the cloth. On her top for these rare occasions she has a bleached white top that is essentially a pentagon of cloth with four strings on it, the cloth had two right angles, making the top portion of the fabric rectangular, each side stops under her arms sufficiently covering her body for modesty's sake while keeping her cool. The bottom portion like a triangle which falls over her naval. Two of the strings are level with the top of the fabric that ties at her back, the lower strings meet at two of the remaining corners tying the fabric tight to her lower back. This is generally accompanied by various circular wooden bangles on her wrists and ankles.
Weapons: Bending and her henna needle if you fidget while she's drawing on you.
Personality: Yun is as bullfrog headed as they come, she often runs her mouth of ignoring any slights made in her direction. In a summery she's rather full of herself, honestly she believes herself to be better than everyone else, no reason to be upset over it, she just is. Most people see her as a bit of a bully but in her own logic the action is usually justified, either someone rubbed her the wrong way or they were asking for it to begin with, she has no qualms about getting into fights and if she looses her pride will urge her to call them a cheater or accuse them of fighting unfairly even though it seems to be the way she often fights. Nothing says easy win like throwing a fistful of muck in someones eyes. Underhanded moves are prefurred actually, they give her the upper hand.
Most of the time she tolerates people around her, either having a sarcastic inner monologe about how they smell or that they had a crooked eye. She enjoys manipulating people and forcing them into doing their bidding. Inwardly she'd sarcastic and not against verbally attacking people out given the chance, she can curse like a sailor to the point where if her mother heard her she'd stick some homemade bacon soap in her mouth. Adults she are close to are fair game for her constant squabbles and fighting. It's not always because she hates people, most of the time it is but honestly it's how she treats almost everyone. When she likes someone she torments them relentlessly, at least more than usual, always wanting to fight them though it's because her brothers always wrestled and fought with her as their way of getting attention or bonding, it should all be the same.
Yun does have respect for her elders, well rather her family, she'd grumble a lot but she won't complain knowing they'd have no quelms about whooping her into place. Back talking and sassing are common, she knows the limits on most of her elders, teasing at the edge of their level of tollerance is something she's quickly becomming skilled at. Teenage angst often makes it hard for her to keep her mouth shut, it's nearly like she doesn't have the mental safety in her mind that stops her from verbalizing her thoughts there half the time.
She loves her henna and enjoys doodling detailed designs on peoples skin, sometimes even her own, theres nothing she enjoys more. It gives her a chance to calm down and feel at peace. For her it's a relaxing and creative hobby that often leaves her smelling of the berry wine and cloves she adds to her mixture to make the stains darker. This is the sort of tranquility that allows her to calm he rage that usually flows out of her mouth and through her body, This allows her sweeter feminine side to come forward, even if it's only though art, anyone who messes with her or makes a snide remark will get theirs.
Yun is a grade A slacker, she will do anything and everything to avoid working, some people could say she's smart but it;s rather wasted. The swamp girl doesn't much like the idea of growing up, when possible she'd avoid it, choosing to run off and play (wrestle) as opposed to studying. Yun is so used to things coming easily for her that she doesn't want to take the time to learn something throughouly, it would just be a waste of her time when she could be swimming or climbing trees with her friends. Possibly beating on the smaller kids or her brothers
Background: Unlike most of the babies born on the wettest nights of the year or those born under odd signs Yun was welcomed into the world on a warm spring day after a couple hours of uncomplicated labor and an otherwise relaxing after noon. In the middle of lunch she demanded to be let out of her intimate home and into exsistance. Her mother who had welcomed two boys into the world before was old hat at child birthing, no nurse maid was needed and their pa was able to clean up the babe before settling her onto her mothers chest to greedily suckle her first meal. The new addition to the family was sleeping soundly with enough time for their ma to get up and fix dinner before having to feed again.
Her brothers were rather disappointed in the young female who invaded their lives, each were betting on another boy but fate dealt different cards. Tok, who was six took the disappointment quickly soon becoming interested in the younger sister who he was old enough to hold. Rohit who was three wasn't very impressed with the young female interloper into his life. She was a quiet baby and yet she was able to take some of the attention away from him, this was found to be rather unacceptable. He tried to put a banana spider in her bed one night only to be caught red handed by his pa, his behind was thoughouly paddled for his little prank, he wouldn't do that again.
Yun was a shy and quiet baby, she didn't cry a lot and so her parents had to moniter her rather closely to make sure all of her needs were met without her cues. Often times she would bend droplets of water from her cup starring at the shapeless globs for minutes on end untill her parents snapped her out of it. For a short while they thought something may be wrong with her, either mentally or physically seeing as their sons were louder than shrieking birds for most of their infant years, much more expressive and generally more outgoing. Yet Yun began toddling about a little before her first birthday and babbled happily once she found her own voice, by eight months words like 'Mama' 'Pa' 'hungy' and 'no!' were common. Her parents opinions of her went from pinning her as mildly retarded to deeming her as a wonder child. Her motor skills were well developed at a young age, she was able to bend, somewhat, if bending meant keeping small globs of water in the air for more than a minute, and unlike infants who shouted random words to their parents Yun seemed to know exactly how to express what she wanted in her broken baby talk. If she wanted something to drink she would mutter 'dink' and point, while most children would shout until their parents figured it out. Tok was indifferent, Rohit was jelous.
The siblings fought as siblings often do, it often ended in Yun running home to tattle on her brothers for rough housing with her, she could hold her own fairly well but her parents didn't need to know that, plus it was humorous to glance up at Rohit between tears with a knowing smirk that he was getting in trouble for nothing.
Around the time Yun was five the relationship with her older brother Rohit turned from quarrelsome to protective. Yun always looked up to him and Rohit always looked down on her, their parents doted on her and she was always praised for being so smart. Rohit didn't see anything special about her, she was ugly and annoying and mean in his opinion, ignoring the fact he often pushed peoples faces into the mud. He wanted to get back at her somehow, but without getting a whooping he didn't know how to go about it.
Durring an outing the trio wandered through the swamp aimlessly hunting down various plants and bugs, at one point Yun had wandered off on her own being the head strong little thing she was. The boys obviously didn't know where they were going so she decided to get the root on her own. Soon Tok and Rohit noticed their missing ward, splitting up they went to find her, Rohit rather apathetic and Tok worried out of his mind.Rohit was the one to find her squirming and in tears have sucked up by a sink hole. The boy half wanted to leave her there, still he didn't know how to get her out. He failed to reach her by conventional means, grabbing her, finding a stick. By now her head was nearly submerged, crying for Tok didn't work, he was too far away to hear them.
In an act of sheer luck Rohit flailed his arms past some near by vines and was able to move them out to her which after a few seconds of remaining dumbstruck he was able to pull her in with. Both children muddied but otherwise alright gasped for air on the solid earth near the sink hole before Rohit hauled Yun off to clean her up. In passing the little girl kicked a rock at the sink hole. That event turned her brother around, now he saw that his little sister wasn't out to get him, she was a kid, and he would protect her like only brothers can, it didn't mean he couldn't still pick on her and push her around a bit, it just meant no one else was allowed to.
Yun had other hobbies besides running about the swamp with her brothers. More often then not Yun made frequent stops at her grandmothers home where she'd learn about the swamp and help her prepare henna. She was taught how to prepare it, how to properly dry out the plants and how to make the best staining dyes, with her youth it was little more than a game to her. As a small child Yun was attracted to the sweet scent, she would want to touch it and play with the goop which often left her hands stained shades of brown orange and yellow. Her Granny laughed at the little girl antics wiping it off and patting her on the head. Once or twice she tried to eat it, figuring like most children do, that things that smelled god also tasted good, she was wrong and it was bitter. Rohit commented that it was deadly to eat and everything went down hill from there, She hugged her granny crying that she was gonna die and was poisoned, the older woman nearly laughed herself to tears, the only thing the poor child had to deal with from the experience was a brown tounge for a day or two. The first designs she learned were depictions of leaves and fish done in tribal styles with dots and lines in varying thicknesses, it took her a long time to get her hand steady enough to make anything look presentable. Her grandmother was more than willing to let her arm be the pallet for the young girls attempts at henna, she was proud that her grandchild was studying the art with her.
With her grandmother she learned all about the swamp, stories of the spirits to the history of their people, how to prepare some roots and cook, she learned the properties of plants and what they could be used for as well as what was good for you, what wasn't. Yun picked up quickly, her brothers had little to no interest in such things, they wanted to grow up to be fighters and fishermen braving the deep swamps. Yun found such a thing a little dull, she wanted to be challenged a bit more mentally. Rohit showed Yun what he knew of bending. He'd learned from their father and through the roots of the family it trickled down to Yun, she excelled past her brothers level rather quickly but he would forever deny it. Soon she mostly tried new things on her own, trying out the newest moves in frequent squabbles with her siblings. Spending afternoons with her grandparents also taught her how to easily gut a fish and from her grandpa she learned how to weave a net. Her fathers set of grandparents always encouraged her to quit wrestling around like a mudfish and learn more domestic skills, so she could be a good wife and baby bearer someday. Being a child she didn't want to hear much of that so she avoided them unless a social situation forced her to play nice.
Growing up in a swamp with two older brothers was never easy, it involved a lot of running, swimming and fighting. A few scraped and cuts coating her arms legs and knees were never anything uncommon. Yun learned to hold her own wrestlig with Rohit and Tok, She wasn't able to beat them too often but it gave her an edge with the kids her age. She was always smart enough to cheat and even the odds in one way or another, with all of her activity she'd worn away her baby fat by age thirteen, making her a skinny twig girl, she grew vertically and not outward like some of the girls in the swamp. She often got teased by boys and the other girls, quickly she found out a quick jab to the nose shut them up. Even as she got older she stayed a twig of a girl though muscles began to develope over time.
Yun wasn't all to impressed, she would fight anyone who called her boyish or flat. She was just a late bloomer, the following years showed that much as her skinny body took on more muscle mass and she finally caught up with the children in her age level. She was still lanky, with long arms in proportion to her body and the remnants of cat calling left in people her age. Now instead of being a twig she was a bully, something that the children would not soon forget, often enough Yun would run back to her brother Rohit and let him do the dirty work, she rarely gets along with people her age still.
Currently her parents are urging Yun to find her place in the swamp, her father would like her to settle down eventually and be domestic, her mothers parents want her to try and become a shaman, saying she has everything for the job aside from the instruction. Yun herself doesn't know what she wants to do, still being young she sees little point in picking so soon. Though the attraction of being able to turn people into newts is attractive. Honestly the girl would be more than happy to doodle henna all over her body for the rest of her life still she trying to apprentice herself to the resident swamp witch. A strong woman she rather looks up to. It was a better choice for her, at least she thought so, it would allow her independance, also more of a reason for people to respect her and not talk about her behind her back which she hates.
Sample RP: " Yew're slow!" Rohit barked into the air as he raced through the undergrowth. Over head Yun swung through the trees with a determined pout on her face, he thought he was so cool? She could catch him. Yun had only just passed her older brother when the teen managed to slip on some moss. With a satisfied smirk the girl dropped down from the trees landing in a crouch before springing up, her hands placed on her hips. " Yew're slow-ER" She laughed as he brothers face heated up, with a swift kick of his long legs Yun too found herself on the ground with a rather discouraging "oomph!" The siblings began to wrestle about, Yun growling like a catergator tugging at Rohit's shaggy brown hair. Rohit had a hand placed firmly on her cheek attempting to shove her off. This was how they looked when the eldest of the siblings walked over.
Tok put his hands to his forehead, rubbing his temples in irritation, with those two if it wasn't one thing, it was another. They just couldn't get along. "Both ov yew knawk it awf" Neither sibling moved to separate and Tok simply glared at the mass that was his younger siblings, with a swipe of his arm he managed to dislocate the struggling Yun from Rohit plopping her over his shoulder like a sack. Yun huffed and slammed a knee into the eldest brothers chest. " Ah was winn'n!"
" Yuh well it's ovarh nao ain't it?" The girl glowered letting her body go slack, her dead weight now giving Tok a bit more to carry, he had to shift his weight to keep himself standing. Soon enough Rohit managed to make it to his feet dusting his chest and loin cloth off. He has a satisfied grin on his face. Sauntering off he sent a grin back at his younger sister as soon as he passed by the siblings, Yun flushed, now he was mocking her?! Once more she started struggling and this time it was without warning, Rohit took off at a good click, Yun soon chasing after him ranting and cursing. Startled Tok watched from the ground having been toppled over by the sister he was trying to keep from being wounded. Those two, he sighed, they'd never grow out of that.
