Name: Shu-zu Makura
Age: 21
Gender: Male
Group: The Rebellion (With acceptance of course)
Nation: Earth Kingdom
Bender?: No (Yay, no need for a coin flip!)
Physical Appearance: Spending as much time as possible outdoors, Shu-Zu has an all-around tan and stands at about 5'7". Keeping an average weight at around 150 pounds, he has jet-black hair that pulls into a ponytail that hangs down to his shoulders. He is a very gangly individual, along with spindly fingers and limbs. His most predominant feature is his large nose, but otherwise, his facial features don't stick out all that much. His jaw is proportionate to his body, being pretty slender, and his lips are just below average size. All except for his rather small ears. His eyes are a deep emerald and a medium size. Being more fit when he was a teen, his muscles are starting to fade after many days of tending the store.
Clothing/Armor: While the store is open, he merely wears some celadon baggy pants that are held up with some twine through the waist and a celadon shirt with cut-off sleeves just after his shoulders. Along with that he wears a jade apron that comes down just below his knees. The apron has an earth kingdom insignia on the front of it and it has some pale gold stripes along the edge, but there is still a small strip of jade color on the edge. He also wears some leather sandals, along with a small silver stud in his left ear at all times. When not in the store, he wears a moss-green shirt with sleeves that end just after his elbows. He has a string to tie together the collar at the top, with a split a few inches down the collar. Also, some moss-green pants along with it. Over the shirt, he wears an india-green vest with some pale gold trim along the edges that is open in the front.
Weapons: He keeps 2 willow leaf daos with him and has some training with them. One is new and for fighting and one is very rusty and old, a gift from is father. He has to be somewhat strong to defend the Rebellion Fence, not that it has ever been attacked, though. He only fights with the new one that he bought just after aquiring his shop. His old one, rusted and nearly broken, stays at his shop, mounted on the wall. The blade of the new one is approximately 2 feet long and it varies from 2 to 3 inches wide. It gets thicker as you near the tip. It is made from steel, a farily simple sword, and the hilt is made of bronze. The handle is about 6 inches long, and has a cloth wrapping around it. There is a small piece of bronze, that caps the bottom, it extends from the handle, then curves outward a little. It weighs about 15 lbs, and is sheathed in a dark leather scabbard that rests at his right hip.
Personality: Definitely not passionate, he is very passive and tolerant. Occasionally he will feel very strongly about something, but not a lot. If he feels he is being cheated of money, however, he tends to get very irritable and won't stand for it. He then starts arguments and occasionally fights with the person he is bartering with. Due to his usual tolerance, he does not get frustrated easily besides matters of money, he just tries to work out any problems that arise. He enjoys good food and dancing, even if he can't really dance. Really, the only thing that will get on his nerves besides being cheated is a customer that won't make up their mind.
Background: Born sometime in Autumn, Shu-zu had a very simple upbringing. He never had any siblings or any pets, but he had some friends. He lived in the south-west and just out of the desert. They occasionally get sand-bender traders that bring tropical fruits from the oasis. His father, Kogane, was always working and his mother, Kikyuu, would stay home, take care of Shu-zu, and do daily chores.
Kogane would travel to neighboring villages and farms and buy goods that were exclusive to the Earth Kingdom. When the Fire Nation traders would come, he would sell the goods to them and make small profits. He should have made more, but the horrible Fire Nation tariffs constricted his trade and he barely made enough to get by.
During his childhood, Shu-zu had always tried to conform, not liking to be different. He never liked conflict and would avoid it at all possible. This lead him to be very passive and tolerant. Unless the matter dealt with money, he was always calm and collected. The reason for this was his father was hard-working and was hardly able to scrape together a living due to the Fire Nation's grip on trade.
That way, if he ever felt he was being cheated of even the smallest bit of money, he would go off like a bomb. He was not greedy, but he wanted his father to stay home and not work all the time. Really, his mentality was the more money he had, the more time with his father he had.
So at around 15, he tried to open a juice stand in their village. Being in the South-west, just out of the desert, his juice stand flourished. Everyone wanted a cool drink and he could make a profit by buying tropical fruits from the Sand-benders and making the juice himself.. He got teased and picked on by bullies and eventually, they snuck up and took all of the money he had made. He told his father of this, and he talked to the bullies' fathers.
The matter was resolved, but Shu-zu wanted to make sure that nothing like it happened again. He then asked his father to train him in the use of swords, particularly the Willow Leaf Dao. His father was reluctant at first, but in the world where everyone must fight at some point, he figured it would be better if Shu-zu was prepared, so for his 16th birthday, Shu-zu had received a rusty old Willow Leaf Dao.
It really wasn't worth much, but to him it meant the world. Afterward, his father would train him in the use of the sword until Shu-zu felt he was good enough to defend his profits. He never was robbed again, but that might have been because he kept the Willow Leaf Dao with him whenever he was at the stand. His father never really suspected that Shu-zu had wanted to protect his money, and never noticed him with the saber at his stand, because of the hours of work he had to do.
Things went well for the next 2 years, then he gave his father some of his earnings and set out. He was making enough money to assist his parents, but eventually he knew that his luck would run out and people would eventually stop buying. So, he figured that he would travel and search for a better source of income, or at least a spot with less Fire Nation tariffs.
He wandered for awhile trying to make a living, struggling a lot. Then one day, he ran into a group of strangers who were whispering amongst themselves. As he walked by, he heard "ire Nation raid ton" and he assumed that they were saying "Fire Nation raid tonight". He had to admit he was intrigued and so he followed them.
They immediately noticed that they had company, and captured him. After some interrogation, he said that he was just curious. One of the rebels noticed the sword he was carrying and asked him if he was with the Fire Nation. Thinking back, the Fire Nation was the reason that his father's trade was bad, and therefore the cause of all his suffering as a kid.
So when they asked him that, almost instantly, he said he would never ally himself with fiends like that. He also mentioned that he would actually like to deal some revenge to the Fire Nation.
They wouldn't trust him enough to actually let him fight, but they let him stand just outside the camp and keep watch in case any other nearby camps were alerted by the commotion. They told him it was a slim chance, but he gladly accepted. As he was keeping watch he was silently tallying the many reasons why he hated the Fire Nation, and while he was thinking, a fireball flew past his head.
He turned to see a Fire Nation soldier standing a few yards away. He was a sentry that had gotten very lucky and hadn't been in the camp at the time. Seeing no other option, Shu-zu pulled out his sword and made a bee-line for the sentry. He barely ducked the first fire blast and got singed by the second, but he was able to dispatch the troop on his own. One of the rebels was returning from the raid and saw all of this. He saw the potential in Shu-zu, but said nothing yet.
Then, when they were looting the empty camp, Shu-zu asked what they did with the things they took. One of them replied that they used most of it, and the things they didn't use were stockpiled around many parts of the Kingdom. Being the entrepreneur he was, Shu-zu figured that he could sell these unused things to civilians and make a profit. He proposed this and after a few days of traveling with them to prove himself, he was accepted.
With the last of his money he opened a shop outside Ba-Sing-Se and is now currently there managing the shop. He takes the goods from raids, disguises them so that they don't look like Fire Nation things, and sells them to the public. Whenever the Rebels come, he gives them 70% of the profit and keeps 30% for himself and the shop. He sends some money to his parents every month, but he makes sure not to tell them how he acquired it.
His shop mainly sells day-to-day items, the most militarized item he will sell is a machete or a few arrows every now and then. It isn't uncommon for him to sell a few spark-rocks or a teapot every day.
Shu-zu is unique in regard to the other rebels, because he, unlike them, is not secretive. He is well-known to his usuals and is always happy and nice when he sells things. He doesn't feel the need to sneak or deceive, he just withholds the truth.
(Just one quick edit here, Aden) He has chosen to name his shop Makura Sundries.
Sample RP: Shu-zu sighed deeply, this customer was getting annoying. His eyes followed the path of the picky man and, getting bored, decided to sit down. He was feeling tolerant today. It was very hot in the shop, being partially outside, and on this scorching day, he could tell it wouldn't get much better. Glancing around at the stolen Fire Nation goods, he could only smirk inwardly. Then, he saw the man pick out 3 used spark rocks, 7 ostrich-horse-feathered arrows, and a tea pot. Seeing the secret Rebellion password, he said
"I see, come around back, it's good you're here. As you may as well be able to tell, I am low on supplies."
After meeting eye contact with the newfound ally, he lead him around the counter and into a small, dark, back room stacked with boxes. Sliding some boxes aside, it revealed another room with a large door for loading goods into the store. Shu-zu looked around and moved some things, then said
"You can signal them, I'm ready."
He then heard the ally emit a whistle that would almost be inaudible unless you were listening for it, and 3 ostrich horses emerged from around the corner, leaden with goods.
