The rules are clear that mixed benders aren't allowed, but what about a thunder/lightning bender? If you would like me to elaborate then I will:
Just like the other forms of bending are based on a specific fighting style, so would thunder bending. The style of choice here would be Xingyiquan.
Xingyiquan features quick, shocking attacks and direct footwork. The goal of the Xingyiquan fighter is to reach the opponent quickly and drive powerfully through them in a single burst¡ªthe analogy with spear fighting is useful here. This is achieved by coordinating one's body as a single unit and the intense focusing of one's qi. Efficiency and economy of movement are the qualities of a Xingyiquan fighter and its direct fighting philosophy advocates simultaneous attack and defense.
There are few kicks, and techniques are prized for their deadliness rather than aesthetic value. Xingyiqun favours a high stance called S¨¡ntsh¨¬, literally "three bodies power," referring to how the stance holds the head, torso and feet along the same vertical plane. A common saying of Xingyiquan is that "the hands do not leave the heart and the elbows do not leave the ribs."
As stated above, on the offensive Lightning benders would concentrate on quick movements and direct footwork to fire explosive blast of lightning at the enemy.
Like Fire bending, Lightning bending lacks a specific form of defense. In a fight, a Lightning bender makes up for his lack of defensive moves by overwhelming his opponent with a barrage of blows in a variety of shapes. A quick kick or jab produces a short range lightning burst, whirlwind kicks generate shocking arcs, punches throw compact lightning blasts, and a series of spinning kicks results in rings of lightning exploding outwards in all directions.
As far as the television show goes, just like their is only one Avatar born into every generation, there is only one Lightning bender every 1000 years, born only in the Fire Nation.
If this isn't possible then I apologize for wasting your time, but I sincerely hope that you will consider adopting the Lightning bender.
