Ok, I was just wondering, for those of us that have seem the movie-ish thing, are we know going to accept 'Sand Benders'? Because Like the discution on lighting benders, Xia made it clear that Lighting was just a branch off of Fire.
But this looks like a new type of bending. Or it could possibly evolved from Earth( because Earth, Sand, you get the picture).
I know now we're not accepting benders due to over population, but later on after the population has leveled, would we be accepting it as a new bending style?

I was under the impression that sand is just eroded rock. In that case, I think 'sandbenders' is just a more specific term for this particular group of earthbenders who've adapted to life in the desert and spcialize in bending earth in the form of sand. They looked pretty cool, though I couldn't shake the feeling that they were like the Sand People from the original Star Wars. Aang even went all psycho on them after they lost Appa kinda like Anakin killing everyone when his mom died. I was like: "Don't give in to the Dark Side, Aang!"

I'm glad I'm not the only one who caught that extremely over-obvious pop-culture references they used. Anyway, yeah sandbenders do seem to be more of a specialization due to environment. Seeing as how Toph, who's supposedly a master earthbender, can't is limited in the sand it makes you wonder how capable a sandbender is on solid ground. If the mods do allow such a thing they may at least want to consider including such a, possibly mandatory, flaw.

She's blind and her style of earthbending is slightly different than normal earthbenders since she also relies on solid earth to see at the same time. A 'normal' earthbender might actually be able to bend the sand a little since they're able to see where the sand is going.

If the mods do allow such a thing they may at least want to consider including such a, possibly mandatory, flaw. It seems more like it would be really dependent on the bender themself. Bumi showed some talent with sand when he turned a section of the battlefield into quicksand (chapter 5). I don't see why any earthbender couldn't be well-versed in manipulating multiple forms of earth should they put forth the effort to learn them. I mean, there's stone, dirt, clay, sand, coal, minerals... They would all respond to an earthbender's call, it's just that each has a few distinct properties that might change how well they can be controlled. Rocks seem like they would be the easiest since they hold their form, clay changes on impact, dirt crumbles easily, and sand would almost be like liquid. I'm sure they require more concentration to control as you go down the list, but most benders have also shown the ability to alter the form of their element. Toph even solidified a section of sand into rock to held her keep the library from sinking. And in Imprisoned, Haru and his father condensed a handful of loose coal into a single, solid sphere. You could make it a factor that earthbenders should include in their profiles and specify what type of earth they're best with, but I wouldn't make it a mandatory weakness.

My view:
"Sandbenders" are simply Earthbenders who specialize in bending sand, which is simply eroded rock, sediment, minerals and the like. There are many examples state above, such as Bumi and Toph, that support this, and nothing I have seen so far that debunks it.
Therefore, "sand bending" is nothing more than Earthbending, probably a lot more difficult than "normal" Earthbending.

Toph is a master Earthbender and we all know she can see perfectly if she is on a solid ground. I dont think the form of the Earth would make alot of difference as long as she knows where her target is. But I agree she might have to use different skills because of how much more fluid the movement of sand could be.
Sand is just a branch of Earth like lightning to fire and ice and steam to water.
