*SIGH*
I thought somebody would have applied. I'm taking Nakamura off the adoption list. Haruko is still up.
Name:Haruko Tsumetai
Age:16
Gender:Male
Nation:Earth Kingdom
Bender?:Apparently not (~.^)
Physical Appearance: Haruko has light brown hair, which he allows to touch the tips of his ears (on the sides) and almost down to the tops of his eyebrows (in front), and no further, although this is hidden by his brown bandanna. His slightly pointy face is accented more by his very light green eyes, which are more than often narrowed in suspicion. His slim build hides the fact that he is well muscled for his size, and often makes most people think that he may be younger than his actual age of 16 years. He stands about 5'10", his legs contributing to that height. His skin is slightly tanned, partially because he always wears longsleeved clothes, no matter how hot it is.
Clothing/Armor: Haruko wears a dark brown tank top as his bottom layer. Over this, he wears a long sleeve dark green shirt, with white trim around the wrists, the neck, and down the middle of the shirt, where it is split. It opens from the front. He ties this off at the waist (closed), with a white cloth belt, allowing the rest of it to poof down over his waist (about 6 inches). His long, dark brown pants travel down to his light brown leather sandals, where they are tied to his legs with string, so they don't billow out around his ankles and trip him on something. His sandals are worn barefoot, and they have a strap on each side of the foot, which ends in an anchoring point between the bit toe and the index toe, which holds the sandal to the foot. He usually carries his bow with him, either in his hands, or as a short walking stick. When he needs to use both hands, he slings it over his shoulder. His quiver is darker brown, carring about 20 arrows, and is held on with a 1" wide strap the goes around his front which extends from aboved his left shoulder diagonally down to the right. He wears a dark brown bandanna over his brown hair, that ties together at the back of his neck, with the two ends used to tie it falling about halfway down his back. It slides down on his forehead just above his eyebrows, and covers his head down to his ears, where it is tucked in behind them. A bit of his hair is exposed down the back of his neck, but his bandanna covers the rest. He wears a necklace, with beads alternating black, brown, silver, brown, black, and so on. It has a central light brown bead bigger than the others. It fits around his neck fairly tightly, but not so tight as a choker. When he travels, he carries a brown messenger bag with him, which makes his burden quite heavy. It too, is slung over his right shoulder with a 1" strap, and a buckle. It is fairly big, and carries a blanket, some simple tools, food, and last, but certainly not least, exra underwear. ^^
Weapons: Haruko's first weapon was his prized shortbow he recieved from his father after gradutaing from the local warrior school last year. His father joked about the weapon, saying it was just right for his 'puny' son, which caused plenty of controversy (among the two of the at least...). He also has a quiver with arrows.
Personality: Haruko is generally easy going, even when on duty as a bodyguard. This causes the other soldiers to think of him as 'lazy', but if he actually is, he doesn't care. His kind exterior overshadows an inner storm that threatens to consume him. He hides away his seriousness, his hurts and pains. He is often the one left out, the one without a friend. The one without someone to dance with at the local ball. On the outside, these things seem not to affect him, but really, his is scarred by them. If most people knew how he really felt, things might be different, but not for now. For now, he carries his pain with him, wherever he goes. Sometimes, he lets bursts of his true emotions out, usually when he goes on hikes around the village alone. He rarely has time to do this, but when he does, he can be sure to take up the opportunity. He is close to his father, the only suviving member of his family. The rest of them, including his mother, where killed soon after he was born in a firebending raid. This, as he does his other pains, is carried within him.
Recently, after his fight with Shakku, he has become more open with his feelings, not hiding them so much. The storm inside him has weakened. He has also become very intuitive of other's emotions, as are many warriors. He simply needed some battle experience to awaken this trait within him.
Background: Haruko was the child of Ryu and Ichigo Tsumetai. They were both from the small fishing village of Tsukikagi. However, shortly after his birth, the village was burned by firebender ships, who attacked the coastal town. His 2 older sisters and his mother were all killed in the house as it burned. His father carried him as far as his legs would travel inland, and they stopped, joining the city of Kei Lan there. Since then, earthbenders have made a stand at that city, keeping the inhabitants safe from the Fire Nation.
Haruko's early childhood was a never-ending story of him being the last one out. The only person who would ever play with him was a girl named Hitomi. One day, after he was done playing kick the ball around, he was surprised to see body guards come and escort her back to a huge mansion! He asked her about it, and she said that she was a rich merchant's daughter. After the initial surprise was over, he was soon at ease, and they became good friends. Although the merchant himself was wary of this 'mongrel' boy playing with HIS daughter, he at least tolerated semi-regular vists by Haruko to his household to play after classes for the youngsters got out.
After he turned 8, he enrolled in a special warrior's school, and no longer saw Hitomi, except when he went over. When he realized that she never had anybody else around, she replied that she didn't really have any friends, since she was 'above' everybody else, and her father didn't like her playing with other kids. She was sad, since other people thought that she had the same attitude. He felt sorry for her as well, and bore her pain with her.
At the age of 11, everything changed, as kids not only wouldn't play with him, but absolutely shunned him, since he was so 'stuck-up'. He wasn't, of course, but the kids refused to see this. He was deeply hurt by this, although he didn't let it show. He still visted Hitomi, although around now, boys began to realize that she was rich, and that they could get lots o money to marry her. So they began trying to be her friend, and she began to open up to them a little. He couldn't blame her: she'd never had another friend but him; but nontheless, he felt jealousy towards the boys, who'd never been her friend before, and had even hated her. His swordsmanship skills were coming along nicely by now, and he regularly trained with his father, who was skilled with a shortsword, or wakazashi. Haruko was never really troubled by not being an earthbender. He much preferred what he could do with his own hands, not with magic.
After graduating from the academy, Haruko needed a job to help support himself and his father, who was considering retirement. He decided to be a bodyguard, because it would keep him in the city, and it would still earn him good money. He was overly surpirsed when the merchant offered to have him bodyguard Hitomi. It worked out well, as they already got along well. The other trained soldiers hated him for it, but he didn't mind. Hitomi was beginning to get annoyed that so many boys were trying to date her by this point, and more often than not, Haruko had to shove his way through crowds of boys for her. He was quite used to it.
The only problem with his life now? He's fallen in love with the one he's supposed to be guarding, which will certainly cause all kinds of problems...
Sample RP: The wind blew softly over the city of Kei Lan, blowing dust off the brown rocky walls. The towers extended high into the sky, obscuring the view of clouds in the distance. The blue sky that was not shadowed by clouds was overpoweringly bright today, aided by the sun.
And boy was it HOT.
Haruko was sweating, as was Hitomi beside him. Her dark brown hair fell loosely around her neck, ending there, cut short. Her dark brown eyes smiled up at him, as did her petite mouth. "You alright?" she asked in her sweet, high voice. Her dark green dress went all the way down to her ankles, tied around her waist by a white cloth belt. It had white trim around the wrists, neck, and her ankles.
Keep your mind on the task at hand. He thought.
"I'm fine, Hitomi-dono," he said. He smiled back at her, hoping she didn't see the red creeping into his cheeks. She was so innocent, so unknowing. She'd been brought up in riches, and wasn't used to having to do work. She would never have to, probably.
"Alright then, Haruko-kun." She laughed slightly, and went back to watching the clouds.
She leaned out of her third story room window, her room lavishly draped with green banners hanging from the cieling ever so high above, like a palace. Her bed was draped with shades that could be pulled back or forward, and everything was, as always in the earth kingdom, green, with white trim. No imagination.
Haruko brought his mind back to the present. He had a job to do.
He was her guard.
Damn she was hot.
ARRRGGH! He thought. STOP THINING ABOUT THAT!
He sighed. "...lunch?"
"Hmmm?" He hadn't been listening.
Hitomi turned around fully, looking at him, smiling. Her slim form was beautifully willowy...
He melted.
"Silly! I asked if you could go get me some lunch!" she giggled. His melted form sighed in ecstasy. Her giggles was like music.
"Uh... I really should stay here to guard you..." he said, snapping back to the present.
She giggled again. "I don't think any kidnappers are going to come get me before you get back. Go ahead Mr. Bodyguard!"
He chuckled. "Alright. Be right back." He got up, and walked into the hallway. It was just as elaborate as her room, with curtains draped over the windows (which were plentiful). As he made his way down the hall, he admired the art on the walls. He then walked down a flight of stairs on the side of the wall, which exteded into the main chamber of the house, dwarfing everything else. He began down another hallway that extended just as long as the first. A guard coming around a corner ran after him.
"What are you doing away from milady?" he asked in an accusing tone. His earthbender armor covered most of his body, obscuring his size, and everything except his mustached face. His huge hat shaded him from the sun from the window.
"She ordered me to get her some lunch." he pointed out.
"What did she want? I'll get it for you." he offered. This was rare. But...
Haruko hit himself on the head with the heel of his hand, a gesture meaning, "OH!"
"How stupid of me. I never asked what she wanted. Let me go and ask."
The guard chuckled. "You're losing it Hotaru-chan."
"Hotaru-WHAT?" exclaimed Hotaru. The earthbender laughed uproariously
"A joke, a joke, young one. Please."
He managed to break a grin. "Sorry."
"It's alright," said the earthbender. "Now go see what milady wants."
"Yeah, yeah..." said Hotaru. He chuckled.
As he rounded the corner, went up the stairs, and walked down the hallway, he heard something strange. He couldn't place the sound... as he got closer to the room, the sound became louder, more pronounced. After he was within twenty feet, there was no doubt to what it was. It was the muffled distressed cries of Hitomi.
"Nnnnnn! Nnnnn-nnnnn!" came the cries.
Another voice, although he didn't know who it was. He pushed down an urge to call for the guards. If he did that, then whoever was in there would know he was back. It was good fortune he HADN'T asked her what she wanted. Lucky. He got closer to the door, peeking in, and listening.
He saw her on the ground, on her stomach, facing away from him. A midsize man was straddling her, just above the waist, tying her wrists tightly behind her back. He wasn't facing Haruko, but he didn't want to risk the man having a knife on him. Not yet...
"Nnnnnn! Nnnnnnn!" cried Hitomi again. The man snarled.
"Queit you DAMN girl! Or I'll sell you off to an old friend of mine. He's quite lonely, any old girl would do, but you'd do nicely..."
She shook, and he could tell, even from this angle, that tears were rolling down her face. He reached to his side. Yes, his sword was there, he hadn't dropped it or anything. Good. Now, as painful as it is, WAIT.
His training was all he needed to know.
He pulled out his sword, slowly, as to make little noise. The man probably couldn't hear it over Hitomi's distressed cries anyway. And she was still kicking, geez.
The man apparently picked up on this too, for when he was through tying her wrists, he began typing her ankles together. Close to time now.
He then picked her up, throwing her over his shoulder, so that she was facing behind the man. He started out for the window, apparently from where he'd come. She looked up sadly, seeming having given up, and she saw him. She seemed about to cry out madly, but he shushed her, putting his finger up to his lips. Silently, he crept from his hiding behind the door, and then full tilt ran at the man, his sadals making a taktaktaktak along the floor. He slashed at the man's legs with is bow, before he could turn, and the man dropped Hitomi ("NNNNN!"), falling himself, blood runing out of his legs, splattering over Haruko's clothing, and running down his arms
Never before had he drawn blood.
Haruko put the bow at the man's neck.
"Don't move," he warned,as the man moaned in pain. "GUARDS!" He yelled. Soon, guards were in the room, including the one who had spoke with him.
"What happened?" he asked incredulously.
"Kidnapper. Don't know why, you figure than out."
The man stared at him for a moment in astonishment, then a look of what might have been respect.
"Alright. You attent to Hitomi-dono."
He quickly rushed over to poor Hitomi, who'd been on the ground, crying out for somebody to untie her. He cut her bonds, and untied her gag. He began, "I'm sorry, I let my guard-"
She grabbed him. Hugged him. Cried into his shoulder, saying things too fast for him to understand. He blushed profusely, as the guards left the room, with the injured man in tow.
"H-hitomi, it's okay now, okay?" he tried.
"I w-was s-so s-scared -a-a-and I thought you weren't c-coming b-back..." she cried.
"Thank you so much..."
He smiled. "You're welcome Hitomi-dono."
She let go of him and shook her head, tears in her eyes. "Don't call me that. I'm just... Hitomi now."
He looked at her strangely. She smiled, her tears evaporating. "You ARE my friend..."
He smiled back. "Then, you're welcome, Hitomi." Well, 1 for 1. Not bad, Mr. Bodyguard.
