This is meant to apply to the EK, but it can apply to other nations as well, but about what age would an average kid in the Avaverse stop attending any sort of public school? I'm positive it wouldn't be 17 or 18, because that simply makes no sense for a setting based on ancient chinese culture.

Children in farming villages and towns were probably home schooled by their mothers in only the most basic of things, and expected to simply continue farming. Cities, like Omashu and Ba Seng Sei would probably have public schools, and the children would probably go till they were 12-14 or so. Then they might be able continue their education at a university or so if they were wealthy enough because Scholarships for intelligence probably were not given out much.

I do believe that Jia is right about primary education falling off between the 12 to 14 year age range. Anything further and you would either have to be one of society's elites, back by a member(s) of society's elites, or part of some formal institution or trade. For more information if you don't plan on visiting a library... *busts forth with the linkageseyness* From google: Search: Ancient Chinese Education links From the China History forum debate topics (though the second isn't debated): * Talent or knowledge* History of Chinese Education, from ancient timesThough I'm not sure that directly answers you
