Name:
Aang
Age:
one hundred and twelve years old
Nation:
Air Nomad
Bender?:
Aang is the physical manifestation of balance in body and mind, or at least he should be. The young avatar can control the flow of the air as if it were a part of him as well at the smooth movements of the water. Both which he excels at. Only recently had he been able to even move a pebble but under the wing of Toph he was able to bridge a large gap in his training and yet still has a long way to go with Fire bending as well as earth,
Aang was born as an air bender his first years of life. Taught at the southern air temple he learned the ins and outs of his element until it came as second nature to him. Undeniably he naturally excelled as his style besting many of his friends and peers. He could even keep up steadily with his mentor Gyatso with chores such as baking. It was unlike Aang to ever give up at such things. His mastery did not go unnoticed by the air temple elders who picked him out to be the next avatar.
Learning water bending under Katara, his teacher was annoyed with his quick progress and how he soon was able to rival her in power. Water being free and moving like the air of course would be an easy transition for the young avatar. He’s able to keep up with the best of the water benders even outside of the avatar state. The form of water bending is free and soft each breath counting for the majority of the power as opposed to other styles where brute force wins out. The free moving style suits his personality well as he must master all four of the elements
Earth bending will come as a challenge for him. Unlike water bending and Air bending Earth bending so far will demand the most of the young avatar and he has yet to master it though he can perform complex techniques and maneuvers in the avatar state.
His experiences with fire bending left him raw and scared of its power. He could summon flames easily and make them burn hot but lacking the control and discipline of a fire warrior he couldn’t control the power making him injure one of his friends. From that point on he hasn’t mentioned learning fire bending but it wasn’t as if they had been able to find a suitable teacher for him yet. In future experiences with fire bending Aang will have to contend with his fears and master them before moving onto the flames
Physical Appearance:
The avatar Aang has a thin wiry frame covered in a childish layer of fat and skin that, though toned, gives him a young appearance, a good thing considering he is only technically twelve years old. Along his spine runs the tattoo of the air nomads winding against hit shoulders blades to continue down to the back of his hands. The same on his lower body ending at his feet and the last branch continuing up his spine and resting on the crown of his head.
Aang has seemingly no hair on his head, he has to shave to keep it bare constantly. The young avatar has large shell shaped ears that stand out ageinst his head making him look a little goofy. As he matures they may or may not fit in and blend with his apperance to the point where they don't stand out like a sore thumb. His eyes are innocent and grey as they the velvet on a kangarabbit.
His face is soft yet expressive allowing him to be both comediacal and serious with the right circumstances at hand. Aang’s neutral body position is slightly unrefined and slumped showing his conditions growing up in a lax society. He has a wide mouth and jaw that is set firmly in place. He seems to be a child though people wouldn’t be half wrong in assuming this. His scalp is nicely shaped and clean shaven. For a child his age he stands at a decent height and in a few years he may be more filled out by muscles where his thin frame dictates. His body lacks the scars or caloces that would have developed from hard labor or manual effort. Aside from his hands gloossy and smooth from the use of his air glider/staff.
Clothing/Armor:
Aang wears a canary yellow shirt with a high Chinese style color and sleeves that continue down to his wrists. The fabric this portion of his shirt would have to be similar to a cotton by product, loose and breathable. The length of the clothing travels to his waist tucking into a red sash loosely allowing for it to billow out filling his body out more so than without it on. Layered over this is a red shaded shawl that rests around where his yellow collar ends. Maybe it was a deeper shade once but time had taken its toll on it fading it to an vermilian tone. It’s split in the middle in the front as well as the back giving it the ability to catch a lot of air under it when moving about giving his more stability with his air bending. The ends of the shawl tucks into yellow and red forearm protections that have his yellow under shirt through them as well bunching at the end jutting out just over the length of the cloth guards.
Aang’s lower half is covered in red leggings that can be seen from behind. This material is thick and form fitting while draped over it is a yellow covering that splits below the groin on the front making two sections that conform to flowing around eighty percent of his legs allowing the leggings to be seen through this space. The yellow pants are tucked under his sash as well as the ends are set into his boots. As with the majority of his clothing the fabric can billow and move around freely as dictated by his actions
Brown walking boots adorn his feet the flexible leather allowing for easy movement and light foot work. Their color has faded to a reddish hue with darker more sturdy leather protecting the bottom of his feet the toe of the boot and the connection between the foot and ankle as well. The leather is soft and worn from traveling but not trashed from misuse as Aang takes good care of his possessions.
Weapons:
Aang has a glider that seems to have been a relic of the air nomads. The fact that it was replicated by some non-benders leads us to believe it was a rather common tool used by the air benders. It collapses easily into a staff, which seems that it is made of pine or another sort of durable wood. This can be combined and used with air techniques to enhance his power or add extra force to gale winds Aang may summon.
By bending the air underneath the frame of the orange cloth and wood gilder he can force himself through the air over long distances as if he were flying. Simply put he is manipulating air currents in order or direct the course and speed of the glider. By spinning it over his head he may lift himself in the air for short periods of time in a similar manner to how helicopter's gain their skyward momentum.
The frame of the glider isn’t strong enough to carry more than three people if their weight is distributed well enough. As of now it hasn’t snapped or been broken so it must have a stronger design than the appearance may let on. Usually it’s strapped to his back and can be moved into action with a movement of his arm. Aang is never seen on the battle field without this trusty weapon
Personality:
The avatar is a harsh responsibility that he's having trouble cooping with, Everything is his fault somehow. It all stacks up and sometimes can drive him to the brink. Along side this he has to deal with the fact that he abandoned his home leaving the air nomads to their death. And yet Aang most of the time has an optimistic childish outlook on life. He finds amusement and light in the darkest of places and can inspire those around him to do the same. He's even touched his enemies hearts once or twice with his simple honesty and insight. His maturity is well past his age.
His charm is that he can let himself down and be just fine with it but when people have to rely on his he almost always pulls through and if he can’t he’ll beat himself up over it instead of others. This brings on self endused depressions that can be quelmed when he pulls himself back to his scenes. Though usually someone else has to do this for him because in this state he is likely to be moved into action by impulses and he becomes susceptible toe suggestions as in, destroying, revenge or making other pay through verbal or physical abuse.
Background:
Aang was born in the southern Air temple and left under the care of Monk Gyatso who he viewed as a father. Everyday he was under the care and guidence of this foster father being taught the ways of the airnomads and benders. He excelled in the art of bending quickly being veiwed as an upstanding and outgoing young boy. Unbenoinst to him the airnomad elders had already found him to be the next avatar. Through various tests including what toys he selected as an infant. Gyatso fearing the boys childhood would go the way of a passing cold front kept this secret from everyone untill the time was right.
Until his twelfth birthday he remained ignorant of his fate and lived as a normal child. One day he was brought before the elders and all was made clear to him ageisnt the guidance of his care-taker Gyatso. This new revelation only this confused him more than a child already is at theis phase of his life. Not yet a man and no longer a boy Aang was being forced into a world he knew nothing of. The other children treated him differently, no longer wanting to play games with him. Having the avatar on you're team would create an unfair advantage. How were they supposed to compete with the master of all four elements. The counsel even spoke of sending him away to another temple where care would be taken in his teaching of the elements. Unknown to them Aang listened to the whole thing, leaving before Gyatso could make his plea to allow him to stay. The avatar was not supposed to be told of his identity untill he was ready to accept it. Regardless of the fire nation and their motives.
Enraged with the decision they made for him he stole away in the middle of the night riding Appa blindly into an oncoming storm. The sea air and water raged endlessly as the pressed further and further into the eye. Unable to bear it anymore the bison and the avatar fell into the sea seemingly done for and the avatar state kicked in at the last moment suspending them both in an icy prison for a hundred years...
With he slept the fire nation wiped out the nomads and fought the southern water tribe to a stand still, all seemed lost until two water tribe children found him and his flying bison Appa in his icy slumber waking him up to once more bring order to the world. Aang and Appa now travels with Katara- his water bending teacher Sokka- his friend and Momo his new found pet, to learn all the elements and restore the balance by over throwing the fire nation. Constantly he is surprised by the state of affairs and how much things have changed in his absence

“Appa!” The lanky avatar using a bust of wind launched himself in the air onto the oversized sky beasts head grinning like a mad man. In return the bison gave a huff of air and opened its mouth making a groan of sorts then sneezing. As simple as this action may be it send the avatar into a fit of laugher as he grinned and stroked that brown patch of hair on its head shaped into a similar fashion as his was. “Appa do you know what I brought for you?” A smaller burst of wind blew him away from the creatures head and down to the earth in front of it his boots making barely a sound on the ground as he stepped down.
Smelling something strange the bison moved forward sniffing his body and growling in a friendly manner. “but first” The bison large brown eyes looked at it’s master as it moved back a step and it made Aang’s heart jump a bit “oh, oh I know you’re tired, please just this once….” Seemingly appeased the bison let out a huff of air through its nose allowing the avatar a smile. “Great!” He tossed the beast a pear he’d stolen from sok-found… and mounted his head. “yip yip!” With a few movements of the creature’s legs it seemingly walked into the skies soon soaring away from the clearing that they abandoned and the camp where his friends still slept.
Aang’s heart began to sink, he knew where he wanted to go and honestly he didn’t know why he did this to himself. “Let’s go…. Home Appa……” The bison knew the way even if it was blind. They were close but he still would be absent for a day and obviously his friends would panic and speculate. Sokka might now, but Katara defiantly would… Thinking about the panic that would insure brightened him a bit and caused warmth to flood his cheeks. Katara was always worried about him. Approaching the temple any joyful feeling he’d manage to uncover were lost, possibly pulled into the knot he now could feel forming in his stomach. Expertly the bison landed allowing him to dismount and explore while a rather tasty patch of dry grass had caught his eye.
Fuzzy hermit crabs scattered when the young avatar walked in fearing the light the open door brought as dim as it was. Stepping forward he felt a pang of regret hit his heart but he kept going anyway. Starring starred out at the remains of the temple. The memories that flooded his mind fell numbly upon his heart. This was his fault, if only he had stayed... no, despair would not over take him this time. If he had stayed he would have died. If he had died then the avatar would be born again in the cycle and the fire nation would see to his demise. What he did was alright... They wouldn't die in vain... The young avatars grey eyes looked at the worn and tattered walls moving forward to touch the cool surface of the rock. At one time it was perfect with not a crack to be seen. Time and the fire nation beat away at the air temple. All the people whose lives have been sacrificed to their great blood lust would soon rest in peace. For he was the avatar, and he couldn’t take the responsibility lightly for all the people of the world were looking to him.
