Name[/u]: Soshi, Son of Senjin Kasai; The Crimson Drake
Age[/u]: 22
Gender[/u]: Male
Group[/u]: Fire Nation Citizen
Nation[/u]: Fire Nation
Bender?[/u]: Fire bender
Physical Appearence[/u]: Soshi has three identities, but all three hold the same build. Soshi is tall for man from the Fire Nation, standing at a quarter of an inch shy of six feet.
His hair is long, black, and usually pulled into a ponytail. He lets the bangs hang loose, knowing there is no way he could tame them. His facial features are sharp, accented almost as if chiselled from a block of marble, his skin being of a nearly white hue. His nose is narrow, and rather nondescript. He has Sunglow Yellow Iris’, which he is quite proud of. All they lack is the metallic lustre of the royal family.
His shoulders are broad, showing toned muscles, and that despite the lack of bulk, his arms are still strong. He inherited his father’s strong physique, and his mother’s graceful fingers. He is proud of them, and is not afraid to get into fights.
Moving to his chest, we see that it is muscled from large amounts of physical training. Soshi is barrel chested, and has a slight scar across his abdomen, from a stray slash while training in swordplay.
His waist is as wide as his abdomen, and just a small bit narrower than his chest. It then expands into his large, heavily muscled thighs, and calves, as well as into his ankles. Everything about his legs is big. His feet are wide, being nearly a hand and a half across each. They give him excellent stability, lending to excellent balance.
Clothing/Armour[/u]: Once again, it must be mentioned that Soshi lives three lives. As the Son of Senjin, his public Persona, a façade of the past, he is a Noble figure, his near adonic features winning gazes and adoration, as well as respect from those he meets. This is accentuated by the charcoal, sleeveless robe he wears, embroidered delicately with egg shell white and burgundy thread, appearing to be a Dragon’s scales.
He wears under this a long crimson tunic, and ash grey breeches. He goes barefoot, letting him feel the land beneath him, the ends of his leggings falling just short of his ankles. His tunic ends shy of his wrists, allowing his fingers to be seen. His appearance is that of a noble, and he plays it well. He acts with honour, and is viewed as a shining Hero to the lesser nobles he stands among. On his wrist is a set of beads, all plain chocolate brown, with two forest green ones, one charcoal, and one crimson standing out.
Most of his clothing either clasps, or is pulled over, lending itself to a fit that can be trusted to not loosen, or be uncomfortable. Soshi has a large enough wardrobe that it could be either/or.
Secondly, the Persona he adopted in his days of combat, more a title than anything, is that of the Crimson Drake. After the death of his father in combat, Soshi forged a Suit of Armour for himself, with aid his Father’s armour smith, mimicking dragons scales, and using a few he could acquire for good luck.
It is Crimson Armour, with a facsimile of a dragon’s maw for the left gauntlet, fangs pointing downwards, an elongation of the pinky and index fingers, and a jut out of a Dragon’s tail, two pointed plates on the back of the hand, for the right. The armour is a Mixture of three armour types: It has a Chain undershirt, which is worn beneath a Breastplate of solid steel, and his shoulders and other joints have bands of Scale Armour donned around them, allowing flexibility, and protecting him.
The Greaves are Scale over chain, as is most of the armour. Anywhere feasible, the pattern of Scales has been etched in, allowing Soshi to become a rallying point on the field. Now, with those days behind him, his unit disbanded, he no longer wears the proud cloak, Gold, and Crimson, with the Kanji “Senjin’s Dragon” flying in the wind behind him. He wore no helm, and his company, accompanying Admiral Zhao in his ill fated assault, were well known as the Dragon-fires.
Weapons[/u]: Soshi was trained from a young age in the use of weapons. He is proficient with Glaive’s, two handed Jian, and Longbows. He finds it hard to fight with only one hand occupied, and as such refrains from lighter weaponry, favouring the full force of a Two handed Swing.
As to Soshi’s bending… He bends in a unique way. He prefers to aid others in their bending, or shield them, limiting his offensive options. He is well known for bending walls of flame in front of infantry.
His is a proficient archer, and will gladly stand on the back lines to hit targets of interest, if that is what required of him.
Personality[/u]: Soshi is passive. He recognizes the destructive power anger has, and chooses to let it remain within him until he engages in battle. He wishes to hold himself as an exemplar. He has let life give him his hands for ages, and is not about to change now. He desires to improve the lots of those who depend on him. He thusly is devoted to the idea of Human Rights, and has a very open opinion, that anyone, from the Fire Lord, to the Meanest Serf, to the lowest slave, be they whatever rank, deserves the right to live, and achieve happiness.
To this end, Soshi does whatever he can for those who serve him. He is exuberant, almost infectious when he is inspired, and has done much good for his servants, and those who owe him fealty. He is currently seeking some time off, so he can take a vacation, and clear his mind.
He has contacted Futaba, his Cousin, who was the commander of his unit, and as such, will be traveling on board her vessel to make it into The Earth Kingdom. His time away from court will be short he hopes, so that he won’t be noticed.
His hobby is metal working, finding it a way to relieve his anxiety by moulding something so unyielding as Iron, and turning it into worked weaponry. It is the only way he can rationalize his own yielding to his sorrows, and his discharge from the military. He was a noble now, and with all but Futaba gone, and having to monitor her affairs as well, he was a relatively powerful one, despite his actual rank.
He finds displeasure in the flaunting of power, especially in that of the royal families grandiose nature. He stays Silent and limits his acquisitions to a more Spartan lifestyle. He has become well known for the wealth of weaponry in his home, and his knowledge of them. Some of his better works he has given to former officers on his Sister’s ship, to show he wishes them well.
Soshi is still an honorary Lieutenant in the Navy, but has been ‘assigned’ to the Home Guard. He has had his pay set up into a special emergency fun, and has almost forgotten his rank. Thusly, he often is surprised when people refer to him as such.
Background[/u]: Soshi is descended from a long line of Soldiers, his own grandfather having slain a Dragon. The Title, Crimson Dragon, was his, and the Title of Crimson Drake, when his son, Senjin, proved a skilled fire bender, was born. It is used by all male members of the Kasai family who can manipulate fire. Unfortunately, due to a tragedy, Soshi is he only one left. Female Fire benders use the title Scarlet Drake, leaving only Futaba bearing it.
Soshi was born to Kaya and Senjin Kasai, a captain in the navy, and a Noble woman, giving him access to easily the best in life. Senjin’s brother, Seiyuu, was a diplomat in the Fire Nation colonies, and had three children. Pfen, Ryoji, and Futaba. Futaba was the eldest, from Seiyuu’s first wife, before she grew infuriated by Seiyuu’s open mindedness, and divorced him, moving back to the homeland, vanishing into the noble house she was born of.
Heartbroken, Seiyuu found comfort in the arms of a Young woman, who Futaba liked immensely, adoring her as her Step mother, and being raised with the same open mindedness of her father. The woman was a peasant, and her down to earth attitude rubbed onto both her step daughter, and her two sons, and her nephew when they finally met.
Soshi was born in the homeland, and it is said that when he was born, a volcano erupted, such was his mother’s pain, and his father’s relief. It is idle nonsense, told to embellish a story, but it suits his skills in bending.
From his young age, Soshi always got along well with his family. His father and mother believed that he needed to be brought up away from the rhetoric that everyone else was inferior. They were the strongest militarily, but no one in the Kasai family wished genocide. They hoped sincerely to preserve those beautiful cultures given to Earth and Water.
In his early years, Soshi lived with his mother, father, and his father’s servants. They taught him everything a Noble needed to know, ranging from what to say in court, to how to identify numerous types of plants, to anything else they could think of. Soshi knew history well, and while he was confused at the extermination of the Air Nomads, he did not question it, merely accepting it as the past.
Soshi’s varied education finally paid off when he was Six. He got lost while the family, including his cousins, were in the Capital, and alongside his older cousin, then eleven, got Ryoji, Pfen, himself, and Futaba safely back to his family. What was merely two hours instilled a band between the four, which Soshi never forgot. The beads he wears on his wrist are in memory of those two, and Futaba. It was roughly Six weeks that two tragedies struck. Soshi’s Mother, who had gone to visit Seiyuu, and Seiyuu, as well as Pfen and Ryoji, had been killed by rebels.
Soshi was destroyed, and when Futaba, and her mother arrived, the two children were nearly inseparable. This closeness blossomed even more, as Senjin, and Futaba’s mother grew close as well. Seeking refuge in one another, Senjin and Mara were married, and Soshi and Futaba were brother and sister, something that elated them.
It was roughly Soshi’s eleventh year when his father and Mara went on a long vacation. Soshi continued his Private Education, but was often being asked to take standardized tests, to monitor the validity of his education. His aptitude made many believe he was at least three years older than his actual age, granting him many opprutunities he would not understand until later in life.
Soshi all this time had continued his private tutoring, and had moved into weapons training, which he soaked up like a sponge. While Futaba worked on her bending, hoping to master Lightning, Soshi learned how to forge armour, weapons, care for them, and fight using them. He was a prodigy it seemed. While he never was anything better than intermediate in anything, it was the combined skills that seemed to shine. He was Charismatic, and Knowledgeable in everything but other people. When asked during his twelfth year why he never tried to influence others, he was bluntly honest. “I like being nice to people. I let Futaba convince them, once I learn who they are.”
His closeness with his cousin, combined with his calm, almost disarming demeanour, and his kind attitude, made him popular among other children. He found himself associating with older teenagers, and adults. It was only when he was Fourteen, and his friends were all gone that Soshi turned inward, but still he found friends among Commoner’s and nobles alike. While no one truly had him open up to them, he never made many enemies.
He made one or two, mostly among guys who were jealous of the quiet boy, who seemed to be plagued with lingering gazes, but he always endeavoured to pacify them. More than once, Futaba was forced to come to his rescue. Apparently, Soshi either was your friend, or you hated him. Either way, he was quick to flee to Futaba, hiding behind the now beautiful woman, who was his guardian spirit.
Soshi soon, in his eighteenth year, ran into a young woman by the name of Jaya. She was the daughter of a Lieutenant, and was about to graduate. The two took a fancy to one another, and Jaya made Soshi a deal. She knew he would do anything to not be separated from her, and so she would have her father pull some strings with the Headmaster, and Soshi would join her father’s unit with her, being given the chance to test out early, and receive an honorary graduation.
Soshi loved the idea. He would get to travel the Earth Kingdom. He made one stipulation. He wanted to visit the village his mother and cousins had died in, so he could honour there graves. Jaya agreed, and On the day of Soshi’s graduation, his Father, Step Mother, Cousin, and hopefully Father-in-Law, watching and with his sweet heart beside him, he beamed with pride.
And it stayed that way. Until, while in the Second Year of his tour with the Iron Arms, he received a letter from Futaba. His father had been deployed, alongside her, and his Father had fallen in battle. The Crimson Drake was dead, and Soshi shattered. Jaya, and the company attended the funeral, alongside the crew of his father‘s vessel. It was after his father was buried, and all was past, that Soshi returned home, with Jaya and Futaba. And set to work. He melted to slag his father’s Armour, and re-forged it, with scales from a dragon he had bought, and spending nearly four months, alongside a Master Smith, and stoking the flames with his own, Jaya, and Futaba’s fires, the Armour of the Crimson Drake was born.
He was an inspiring presence on the field, his appearance giving the Iron Arms new meaning, becoming the Dragon-fires. With the Crimson Drake as their Lieutenant, and Jaya and her father leading, they were able to forge a name for themselves. Several insurrections of Earthbenders against the reign of the Firenation, one in the village where Soshi’s mother was buried, invoked Soshi’s rage. His once peaceful attitude shattered when he saw his family’s grave’s disturbed.
Had it not been for Jaya and her father holding him back, he may very well have ripped that man apart before turning him to ash. Soshi doesn’t speak of what was going through his mind, but it shows that even he is susceptible to fury.
With Futaba at his side, when they set sail for the North Pole alongside the Famed Admiral Zhao, knowing his father was with him in spirit, the Kasai family prepared to give the enlightening of the Fire Nation to the Water Tribe. He was engaged to be married to the woman of his dreams, and was confident he could be free of his mourning for his father, and start a life of happiness. Just after one final assault.
And then it all went wrong. Jaya was killed by a Night Raid, as was most of the Company, and Soshi found himself cornered by a group of them. He was the rallying point for the company, and thusly he was the greatest target, but Soshi found himself saved again by his Sister. He, Futaba, the Fire benders under her command, and his last remaining allies, managed to escape, and for the remainder of the siege, he was her Lieutenant. With Jaya, her father, and many of Soshi’s friends dead, Soshi found himself in a haze.
He cremated the woman he loved, and then, when the attack went belly up, protected the rear as long as he could alongside his sister, and their men. No longer was there a Drake, but just a broken man, but Soshi stood firm. He finally fell back with his Sister, and in one tremendous combined blast, drove away the last Water benders dogging them.
When Soshi arrived in the Fire Nation, he locked away his armour, and threw himself into making life better for those who owed him fealty. He had lived his life, all twenty one years of it, without a care, and now he would do everything he could, to make life happy for those he touched. His Step-Mother passed away from grief, and he buried another loved one, this time beside his father, and at last, was alone. His Father’s servants continued their work, but they let the sombre man they were now employed by, be.
Soshi was reassigned to the home guard, a special consideration in no small part by his Sister, who was now doing everything she could to keep Soshi home for as long as she could. The Scarlet Drake stood alone. But then, one day, visiting him, she saw a change in him. He was in the forge working to make something. When She saw it, it was a Second suit of armour, like his own, but with lighter Scarlet’s instead of the Crimson he wore. When he finished it, exhausted, he gave it to her.
She held him in her arms, seeing he was all but spent. She had the servants carry him to his room, and she took advantage of a small leave of absence to nurse her Brother back to health. She could see the sorrow in his eyes, but she continued to ensure he would survive. Finally, once she had no time left with him, she had the daughter of one of her Lieutenants tend to the Noble, who looked to be dying of heartbreak.
It took a month, but two months after the Death of Jaya, her father, the Dragon-Fire’s, and Admiral Zhao, Soshi’s eyes cleared. He then received a strange invitation. He had infrequently attended court on behalf of his family, since Futaba was rarely able to do so, but now he was asked by Futaba’s Mother to attend court for her. She had heard of his tragedy, and she wanted him to snap out of it. Given charge of her say, he soon was alert, and Charismatic once more. For the last month, Soshi has almost been living in Court, trying to do everything he can to get his affairs in order, and clean up whatever mess he can from the North Pole accident.
Now, in the last week, Soshi has been setting his affairs in order and packing. He is going to take a vacation in the Earth Kingdom, to visit his family’s graves, and to clear his mind of everything that has been cluttering it. He hopes for an uneventful, and peaceful journey.
Sample RP[/u]:
Soshi peered into the candle lit room. It was one thing hung on the wall. A side of himself. He looked to his right, to the Armour, it’s beautiful Crimson Lustre shining. It was his past. “I was so much more certain then. Of who I am… Of what I wanted…”
It was hell on earth. The War was waging at it’s Zenith. He could feel the underlying violence within him. It was Passion, and glory. His lovely Jaya was gone. He would have his revenge. “FALL BACK! FALL BACK!” He heard the Major’s Orders and frowned. He looked at Futaba and his Mercenaries. “FIREBENDERS! TO ME!” He raised the war cry, his cloak flying open as a gust of wind picked up. “RALLY! TO THE CRIMSON DRAKE!” Futaba stepped beside him “RALLY TO THE SCARLET DRAKE!” Both took their stances, and benders rallied to them. Soshi stood at the head. He felt the fire around him, and they began a steady form. And then Soshi saw him. The enemy commander. “Futaba. Keep the men pushing forward. I have someone to kill.”
He drew his sword, and it was he ringing of steel that drew even more attention as he moved forward slowly. He was filled with rage, and it showed. That was the man who had killed her. “COME AT ME!” The Duel began…
“I WANT MY FAMILY BACK!” He punched the wall. “Violence. Always Violence.” He cursed the War. It had harmed him and his Sister so much. “I lost two mothers, she lost two fathers…” He chuckled, sniffling. “It’s so foolish. How could I have fought in that war, with PRIDE!”
He laughed. It disgusted him, remembering the fighting. “Jaya…” He could smell her hair still. He looked on another wall, down the hall way, where her armour was on display. He kept everything he could of his past, and he shook his head. “Jaya…” Even now he remembered her last words. Her last request. “Kiss me…” How could he refuse her? He couldn’t, and so he had, and had tasted her last breathe. It was so… Serene. Of everything, her death never hurt him. He knew she would want him to move on.
“Like she is with me.” He touched his lips. He still felt it, her lips, and he shook his head. “I should be happy. I am well off…”
