Name[/u]: Kuni Tsu
Age[/u]: 22 years old
Gender[/u]: Male
Group[/u]: Fire Nation Army
Nation[/u]: Fire Nation
Bender?[/u]: No
Physical Appearance[/u]: Kuni Tsu is about 5’8 in height and weighs around 148 lbs. His night black hair goes to just below shoulder length and is straight in shape. His eyebrows were arched upward and his eyes were slightly slanted with the color of charcoal black. His face was chiseled and slightly vertical. His nose is small and pointed. His face is quite effeminate with a lot of softer features not seen in most men, so it is possible that if he was in full armor that someone might mistaken him as a female. He has a small framed jaw line with a narrow chin. His frame is quite small, with not a lot of bulk like most soldiers around him and his features look delicate in appearance. He doesn’t have a lot of muscle on him, so that also suggests to many people that he looks like a women. His hands, even though they are delicate, are more grounded than most of his other features from his continuous training with his miao dao and jian. His nails are always manicured, but never painted. His skin is lightly tan and he always has a clean smell to himself. His teeth are as white as the clouds.
Due to because of his effeminate build, he is quite attractive to the opposite sex.
Clothing/Armor[/u]: When not in the field, Tsu likes to enjoy himself with robes that wouldn’t restrict his movement. His robes are made of mostly silk with a light orange for the sleeves and a reddish orange for the top itself. The sleeves are long enough to reach the wrist and go down to the upper part of his leg. Each of his robes has a stitching of the phoenix on them, the revered animal of the Fire Nation. His trousers are wide brimmed are made of silk as well with the same reddish orange color as the top. His sash around his waist is made of entirely silk with an orange color. All around the sash is stitching of the fire emblem that is the symbol of the Fire Nation. His shoes are made of a soft leather with a rubber sole and is the color black.
In the field, Kuni Tsu wears his armor that was issued to him with he was recruited. The armor’s insides are made of leather to make the armor wearer comfortable and provide mobility. On top of the leather is cast steel with a light golden plating on top of it for decoration. The leather is orangish in color. The metallic plating is reddish orange in color except for the center piece and covers the entire torso as well as part of his upper shoulders. In the center of his armored chest is an etching of the phoenix that resembles the national animal and wears it proudly. His helmet is made of lacquer and metallic rivets cover the top of it. For decoration, at the edges of the face area is flames that shoot out of the helmet for decoration and to possibly intimidate his opponents.
For his bottom leggings is mostly made of cotton with the upper leggings having metallic strips connected for protecting his thighs and groin area. The cotton is dyed orange to match the leather for his top armor. His boots are made of leather and are brown in color. His gloves are red leather that helps him with his sword techniques.
Weapons[/u]: His weapons consist of a miao dao and a jian. His jian is a silver colored blade that shines when the light bears upon it. In the metal blade is etchings of a phoenix. The hilt is made from a red oak with a silken wrapping colored red that wraps around the handle. It looks almost brand new with really no flaws or nicks.
The miao dao is also a silver blade, but with no etchings. In fact, it is quite plain in appearance. The hilt is made out of steel with a blue silk wrapping around the hilt. Unlike the jian, the miao dao looks more used with nicks on the blade and hilt.
Personality[/u]: If there is one thing that Kuni Tsu is guilty for in his personality, is that he is effeminate. He has most of the stereotypes of an effeminate person: he likes being clean, he somewhat talks in a lisp, he speaks with his hands a lot, has a loose wrist, has hobbies in collecting books that involve romance, and enjoys theatre.
A lot of his soldiers wonder sometimes if their officer “swings for the opposite team”, but they can’t confirm it due to because nobody knows much of his personal life.
Behind closed curtains, he likes to relax with a good romance novel or a playwright he could read. He also likes to manicure himself. When he is exceptionally bored, he will practice with his jian and miao dao until someone calls for him, or goes to speak with his other soldiers.
When he is around his camaraderie, he’s quite laid back and likes to listen more to his fellow soldiers than actually speak. Once in a while if there was a debate of any sorts, he would usually try to debate with as much knowledge as possible until one side wins. If asked in opinion, he would gladly speak his mind. He actually enjoys being around the enlisted men more than other officers because he thinks their more entertaining because because they aren't officers, they aren't so stuffy and are more honest about things in life than most others.
When asked what he thinks of women, Kuni Tsu usually gets nervous and often speaks in a stutter like he lost his pattern of speech. When encountering a girl, he’s usually shy and quiet and won’t interact with them often.
Out in the battlefield or going over strategic staging, Kuni Tsu let’s his military training speak for him and is much more commanding with his speech and mannerisms. Being one of the more “consciously sound” strategists, he would try to minimize casualties of their side while getting the best advantage point on the opposition.
As for his stance on the war: He really doesn't feel that conquering the world is necessary, but being the soldier that he is, he will follow his orders and perform to the best of his duty, for doing so will bring honor to the family name. As for the enemy, he has no animosity toward them and doesn't accept the propoganda that the Fire Lord spews out to the public. He's been with the people of other countries long enough that the propoganda are just lies.
Background[/u]: Kuni Tsu is the youngest of the three boys in the Kuni lineage. It was predetermined by his parents that when he was old enough, he would join the glorious Fire Nation army. He as well as his old brothers trained in the basic principles of the military. Kuni Tsu didn’t start training until he was eight years old when he could first carry a sword. He would spar with his brothers Gengoro and Jubei during the afternoons. His parents lived in a small estate in the Hokage village that oversees the market district. Since the parents are always out on military matters, they hire a nanny to watch over the kids. The children got along with each other quite well, playing imaginary war games with each other like soldiers and Ignis and a game called "war" involving math and cards. They would also play games such as "seek and eliminate" which one person counts to a certain number and would search for the others and try to duel them to submission.
However, Tsu’s parents watched him due his practices as Tsu implemented his own unpredictable moves during their sparring matches. He would use different tactics, feints, parries, and fancy footwork to confuse his enemy. Tsu’s father was quite impressed. He figured that Tsu might become a tactician when he grew up into the ranks of the army. Tsu would practice his martial training during the afternoon while during the morning he would go to school. This was a privilege that his other brothers didn’t have. His parents had the assumption that if the other two siblings are going to be mostly in the infantry, they wouldn't need school. However, due to Tsu's intelligence and his knack for tactics, they would send him to school so he could grow into more of a tactician profession. Tsu would do the normal curriculum that most other children would have. At school, he learned of the history of the Fire Nation from various playwrights and history books from the library. Tsu's favorite subject in school were history and drama. He was completely fascinated from those playwrights that he would continue to read and study them like they were novels. In fact, he incorporated a few different strategies from various playwrights to have them implemented in real life.
As he continued to go to school for a few years, his parents noticed a drastic change in Tsu. As they continued to witness, Tsu began to adapt more to the opposite sex more than his fellow peers. As time went on, he became effeminate, if not androgynous in his appearance. He hung out with mostly women during his time in school, which got his parents worried. His father tried to bond with his son often, but it did not change his attitude nor outlook. Still, he kept him in school, for his tactics could one day bring great honor to the family. His brother Jubei was a little disturbed of his habits, but Gengoro mostly thinks of it as a quirk, so isn't bothered by it.
When Kuni Tsu turned fourteen years old, he went to the academy for military training in the afternoon while still going to school. That is when the turn for the worse happened in his life. During the afternoon when he was shadow-sparring, some of the full time cadets from the academy volunteered to train Tsu for the academy. Tsu happily accepted the training session. It turned out that the training session was nothing more than an excuse to use Tsu as a beating post for the cadet. From what the cadet explained to Tsu while beating upon him with a wooden bokken, he didn’t like the fact that a man that acted more womanly than most courtesans in the courts belong in the military. He would be taught a lesson in humility. His relentless beating came to a halt when Gengoro intervened on Tsu behalf. The cadet was furious that he challenged Gengoro to a first blood match in the battle ring using real weapons. Gengoro accepted and proved to be a more skilled swordsman than he. The cadet was angry and attacked while Gengoro’s back was turned. Gengoro saw it coming and swung at the cadet’s torso, surrendering his life for foolishness. Tsu watched in a combination of awe and sadness as Gengoro demonstrated his skills. Unfortunately, Gengoro got in trouble for his deed and was sentenced. Tsu felt bad for what Gengoro did for him. He should have gained much honor from the duel, only to be instead bestowed shame. Kuni Tsu loved his brother for standing up for him. He would never forget that moment.
After his schooling was done when he turned seventeen, he went into the academy full time and completed his training. During that time, his odd behavior confused and unnerved many of his peers who didn’t trust him much. However, his leadership skills as well as his tactics gained him recognition from his superiors that he was chosen as a candidate for Officer School. For two years he went through this rigorous training. Once more, he met his peers and they were confused, unnerved, and a few were upset. During when Kuni Tsu was sleeping one night, one of his rivals stole one of his playwrights that he was reading. The next day, Kuni Tsu found out about it by the rumors that were spreading about his “lack of manhood”. Tsu demanded his playwright back. The rival oblighted, but only if Tsu could best him in a duel.
During this duel, Tsu used his jian as his weapon. However, little did Tsu know that he was a fire bender. With aggresion as his motive, the rival launched fireball upon fireball at Tsu. The other men were quite entertained as Tsu not once have tried to attack his target. Little did the rival know that Tsu was studying his moves and trying to predict each move that was tossed at him. Once Tsu familiarized himself with his rival’s attack pattern, Tsu launched his attack. It wasn’t an attack that most would do, as Tsu made his movement deliberate and predictable, for if done right, Tsu would always know what kind of attack would be next, when it will be launched, and where it will try to be. Once Tsu got close, Tsu unleashed his blazing speed of the jian and made quick work on his rival. The other superiors were watching the dual and was quite impressed with the duel. Pretty soon, he graduated with honors in his class and gained the rank of lieutenant when he was twenty years old, ironically the same age when Gengoro was shamed.
Once graduated, he was the assistant officer of a komodo rhino cavalry unit in the Fire Nation army. At first, the usual reaction from his men were the same as before, unnerving and confused due to his appearance and mannerisms. He wasn’t winning the men over like he wanted and didn’t really want to hang around the other officers, so he had to do interesting ways to adapt to their camaraderie. During chow times, he would sit at the enlisted soldiers table and eat there. At first, they just sat there at the tables and sat without a word. After a while doing this, they began to chatter once more among themselves with the lieutenant at the table. After a few months of doing this, one of the grunts made an opinion about the history of the Fire Nation, which caught Tsu’s interests. He gave his opinion about it, and the other men looked at him with surprise. He continued to voice his opinions whenever they started talking at the table. Some even had the courage to actually talk to Tsu as they were eating. Soon enough, his attempt to warm up to his fellow soldiers worked like he wanted.
Now, at the age of twenty two, he has accomplished what Gengoro would’ve done, if not for that one fateful day that Kuni Tsu will never forget, and never forgive.
Sample RP[/u]: It was around 10:00 P.M. around the village. The commoners were gathering up their belongings, the merchants were closing up stores, and the taverns were busy with patrons for a couple more hours. Everything seems normal.
Inside of his room, Kuni Tsu wearing slack trousers made of dyed red cotton plants himself on his bed and reads a poem of ancient times. This poem was about a nation that was once great, but from tyranny and corruption from ministers, it fell. Tsu yawned as he was bored with reading it.
"That doesn't explain anything," Tsu quiped, "This is why playwrights are so much better. Poetry is nice, but doesn't explain anything. Playwrights were at least nice enough to tell you what was going on."
Being bored with the poem, he sat it down next to the lantern next to the bed and walked over to his bedroom window. He perched his elbow on the window sill and stared at the moonlit sky. The stars were out in all of it's splendor and the blackened sky radiated it's spectacular atmosphere. His eyes catch a dreamy look to it as he started to dream of a happier time in his life, back when things were simple and situations were explained better. Some of his feelings swelled up inside as he doesn't know the answers to.
He gave out a slight sigh as he closed his window and walked to his bed.
"Oh well, maybe tomorrow will explain everything," Kuni Tsu reassured himself as he blew out the candle light.
