Name: Lin-Hyan Li
Age: 24
Gender:Female
Group: None quite yet
Nation:Earth
Bender?: Earthbender
Physical Appearance: Lin Is a large woman. She's just under 6 ft tall and has the frame to match. Since she grew up with a 'strongman' father and in a traveling, not quite circus but more of a variety show, she worked out along with her father to spend time with him. She has well developed muscles since she hasn't stopped her training regimen at all while traveling alone. The muscles are well defined throughout her body. Her arms and legs are not quite chiseled the muscles are definably there but not overwhelmingly big. Her abs are a finely chiseled six pack which she constantly shows off. Her skin is already tanned to a medium brown, along with a few healing, and new, sunburns.
She has very dark brown fly away hair with a few lighter brown streaks bleached from the sun. Lin's hair is always wild and in tangled messes, she only brushes it out when the tangles get in her way or become painful. She keeps it back in a ponytail most of the time for convenience.
Lin’s feet and hands are calloused from years of fighting and walking around without shoes. She also has several small scars on her hands from Earthbending and fighting incidents.
Lin's face is handsome, not pretty. The only pretty features are her hair and her green eyes. Her nose is straight and rounded at the tip but not overly prominent. She has dark brows that furrow slightly at all times but do not give her a frowning look. Her face is strong in shape with a square jaw and pointed chin.
Because of her body type, she is bulky. Her agility when running leaves something to be desired as well as her stamina. Her abilities lie in defeating her opponents quickly with brute force because she can’t have a long drawn out battle.
Because of Lin’s muscularity, she was often mistaken for a man from the back and so has adopted a purposeful sway in the hips to stop the embarrassment to many people in the process.
Clothing/Armor: Lin wears a sleeveless green top which fits snugly over her chest and back. It cuts off just above her belly button.
Her pants are a medium weight, dark-forest-green colored, material. They come down to just below her knees where they are tied off with a string. For the hotter or colder days of the year she has a worn (ha get it?) pair of sandals to get her feet off the ground. Otherwise she walks around bare foot with wraps around the arches of her feet and ankles.
Lin also has a plain style olive-green jacket that she used when traveling the colder regions around the world but it stays in her pack. The sleeves reach all the way to her wrists but are a little tight in the shoulders.
The bag she has is a heavy linen fisherman's bag with a strap. Lin inexpertly sewed ruined leather pockets to the inside to carry her smaller items in relative safety.
She also has a pouch of dirt from home tied to a cream colored scarf belt around her waist.
Weapons: . The weapons she needs to survive are readily created through several fighting techniques in conjunction with bending.
Favored Earth bending weapons of hers are rock disks that act like saw blades.
She has also studied sand bending a little bit but doesn't have a consistent success rate with it.
Personality: She is a little rowdy and rambunctious. Good fights for her life and good fights in bars are always welcome. The thrill of a fight makes her feel useful and powerful, she wont go seeking one but will finish them very fast.
Needless to say 'sneaky' is almost impossible for her. Lin can be a bit conceited about her strength at times and only needs to run for a short while to be reminded she has limits.
Her strength is a great sense of pride to her so its one of the few things she takes seriously. She trains everyday for about 2 hours while she's on the run and 3 hours if she's sitting still for a while. She will often carry a large rock earthbended into a ball or have rock wieghts on her arms and legs.
She is also a kind person. She is generous to those who are kind to others. She is difficult to anger. You have to push the buttons instead of around them for that to happen. Her parents taught her to see the people not the army. In other words, to not turn enemies or people into faceless, characterless objects.
Even so,she harbors no love for most fire nation military. Although Lin wont go out of her way to hurt them, If she has a chance she'll make sure they know she is not happy.
Second chances are a possibility at all times but only if others have earned it.
Background: Her father and mother worked with a traveling variety show, the father was a strongman and her mother was an Earth bender who made the pottery for the show. The show traveled along the Southern coast line and close to the desert. Lins parents met when the show stopped in Ba-sing-se , she was tired of city life and the talents she had were common. Lins dad managed to convince her that her talents would be greatly appreciated if she went with them. They married after 6 months and had Lin two years later.
Growing up she had plenty of adult figures and friends around her so her childhood was pretty decent even with a war going on. Since there were three families involved in the show, she had plenty of people to look after her. There was only one other boy the same age as her and his older brother who was their babysitter, but they managed to get into enough trouble with just the two of them. When they both turned 10 the boys family stayed in a coastal town that Lin still visits. The eldest was conscripted and is now on the front lines against the Fire Nation.
Lin was a consistently big child throughout her years. Since her father was called the ‘Iron Mountain’ as a show name, the others began calling her ‘Little Mountain’. She would help out with the show, by setting up and taking out props for the different acts.
Since her father was always working around the show she only got to spend time with him while he took personal time to train. This started at the age of six, even though her mother disapproved of it.
During this time she really became aware of what strength meant. This also means this is the time where she got into the most trouble because she would do all sorts of things to prove she could do anything an adult could. For a while her size was a burden garnishing many snide comments and much unfriendly teasing from people outside of the troupe. She was called "Rhino' or 'Elephant girl'
Others in the troupe attempted to teach her discipline and other ways to prove her abilities such as 'friendly' wrestling. When her only friends left the troupe it became a form of entertainment and she used her talents to start fights instead of protect herself from them.
Her parents traveled for the first 15 years of her life, finally retiring because of arthritis (mother), and a permanently bad leg on her father’s part from a work related incident. They also decided to settle somewhere were Lin could calm down and didn't need to feel as if she had to win at everything.
She had learned limited amounts of earth bending from her mother during the time they traveled, mostly concerning making dolls or ceramics. Since many areas in the Earth Kingdom didn't act kindly because of Fire nation occupation it was secretive and halting. Once they settled down she learned bending full time and used it to further her strength training.
She calmed down quite a bit and had a few friends in their new town. Most of them were boys, the girls were for the most part too small to play the way Lin-Hyan did. One by one they all left the village by the age of 18 either for marriage or just to explore. Lin wasn't comfortable leaving home til she was sure her slightly aggressive tendencies were under total control. After she had a few years more training in not increasing her strength but utilizing it properly she left home like her friends before her.
At the age of 20 she left home to see the world. She has traveled mainly within the Earth Kingdom visiting old friends and favorite places along with places she wanted to go but never could. Her parents get along well without her , they have a small business in a town along the northern border where her mother still makes various ceramics. Lin-Hyan does most of the same thing except with a showmans flare, doing overcomplicated moves and uneccessary , flashy moves.
She also wrestles when she's short on time and needs money, strength contests and that sort.
She visits her parents twice a year normally but hasn't gotten to them for 18 months. She's been stuck away from the coast and in the southern half for most of that time.
Sample RP: " Excuse me?" Lin-Hyan turned around surprised at the little voice . " Down here." She looked down from where she had been searching at about chest level. A little girl smiled nervously up at her from around knee height . " Uh-um..... here." In her tiny hand she held what looked like- . Lin-Hyan' s hair fell forward over her shoulders as she leaned down to take a closer look.
" My hair tie...?" Reflexively her hand reached to check even though it was right in front of her. The little girl giggled and held it out for Lin to take. " Thanks." With a chagrined smile she took it back ,tieing her hair more securely.
"It looked real nice. So I thought it was important."
The girl looked down at her dirty feet blushing. Lin knew where that was going.
" And you're right. My mother made it for me when I was a little girl." She said it carefully making sure there was no mistaking that last bit of information. The girl's shocked face told Lin all , but before the deep red blush could start, Lin had an idea. She stood up looking around for a nice patch of mud. Some of the other villagers stopped a bit curious about the large woman in their midst. The girl watched curiously ,her pink face lessening in color.
She set her feet in a wide stance and moved her arms in a forward hooking motion pulling the mud towards her. When she bent it in close she moved her hands in a circular motion and molded arms and feet off the body. Lin moved her free hand up and covered the doll with a thick layer of dust and then blew off the excess that didnt cling. Before she handed it over she pinched out the eyes and a small nose. The girl grinned excitedly and clapped when Lin leaned down with the finished product..
" You might want to leave it out in the sun for a while before you play with it, 'kay?"
She nodded and holding the doll gently in front of her ran off.
With a sad smile Lin stood up and continued down the village street knowing all too soon the Fire nation would be there. She wouldn't be able to do anything to help.
