The princess's sharp tongue, piercing eyes, and superior attitude had been crippled. By a twitch that had settled in on the Princess's left eye. For nearly a day now it had bothered her, silencing her lashing tongue for the day. The two young women had traveled further south on their swift traveling basilisk lizards. Their nights had been spent at Inns which had bent over backwards for the three young woman who were identified as high ranking Fire Nation Military personnel by the uniform of the Princess and the sheer aura that surrounded them. Not a single coin was spent for their housing... it was nice to be Royalty and Nobility.
Their hunt for Prince Zuko and Azula's Uncle Iroh was going poorly. They had received reports of their location further south, but running into those 'rebellion' peasants had been interesting. Communicating with the trailing Royal Procession via hawks, the Princess had received word that they had been spotted South in the city of Gaoling. With her command, they were now heading south at an even greater speed. The Avatar was now confirmed alive.. he had been spotted at the North Pole's first siege.. then Zuko must be close.
Two birds with one stone. The idea appealed to the Princess of the Fire Nation who had one mission so far.. to bring her silly brother and Uncle home. They had made a fool of themselves at the North Pole and had made a fool of the Royal Family. Her hands were so tight on the leather reins that her sharp, filed nails were digging in her palms as she ground her teeth, listening as Ty Lee went over their horoscopes for the next five years to pass the time.

"Hurry up, girls." She commanded, interrupting Ty Lee's explanation of why she foresaw a toad in Mai's future. Something about ugly princes... Whatever. It wasn't of any use to their current mission which was to locate the little lost prince of the Fire Nation and to bring him back, by force if they had to. Her heels snapped against the sides of the dark umber colored basilisk lizard, commanding the creature to speed up it's trot. It lunged forward, knocking the girl's head back but it was something she was used to. Her body steadied it's core out, legs fitting snugly to the curve and orientation of the saddle.
Trees around them flew by, her hair whipping behind her in individual strands, as they road down the path. They needed to make it south.. at least as far as New Ozai if they wished to stay on Zuko's tail. Silly Zuko.. did you really think we would LET you get the glory of capturing the Avatar? You're a disgrace to the family name! Her blood was boiling. How she wanted to see the expression on his hideously scarred face when she showed up with the entire army behind her. She leaned down across the withers of the lizard, the reins in her slender, elegant hands tightly.

The ride had been slow and tedious, with Ty Lee ‘foreseeing’ every aspect of her friend’s lives for what seemed like an eternity. All the different symbols blended together into one mish-mosh that basically meant there would be a lot of nonsense making everything that much drabber. Whatever, Mai would deal with any ‘turmoil’ when the time came. There were genuine issues now that needed to be taken care of. Rubbing her stiff hands against the panels of deep maroon fabric that rested on the tops of her legs the silent teen steadied her gaze on Azula’s back. Who knew what sort of temper was swirling around inside the young princess, fueling all sorts of new plans and actions?
Hurry up. Quickly snatching the reins back in her thin hands Mai urged her mount onward to match the princess’s pace with a quick tap of her heel. Again his excellent training came through as hardly any force was required on her part and they dashed ahead. With the sudden increase in speed Mai’s bangs swished from side to side, moving as one dark mass. Flexing her shoulders back she considered the progress they had made. Obviously it wasn’t good enough for Zuko was not in his sister’s clutches. How much ground could one banished prince with a meager crew possibly cover? The reports the girls received always seemed to place him farther and farther south. At least getting their meeting with Zuko over and done with meant they could also capture the Avatar sooner. Ignoring the bland scenery that rushed past Mai leaned forward with the basilisk lizard’s movements, mulling over all that was left to accomplish.

This was going to be a long ride... and the princess was not looking forward to it, even she cracked the leather reins against the withers of her lizard, urging him faster and faster. She clenched her jaw, reflecting back on the last encounter they had with those.. rebels. Their faces were burnt into her memory... they would pay. In time. Yes, in time. Trees and brush whipped past the girls as they raced along through the Northern Forests of the Earth Kingdom. The hills were leveling out, and the trees were spreading further and further apart as the moved. They were crossing the foothills and descending into the inner planes, flanked by the mountains that ringed the Western Shore of the Earth Kingdom.
Gaoling was in the South.. very south, Past Mai's home of New Ozai, one of the jewels in the Fire Nation's crown. They would stop there and regroup, Gather intelligence and locate where Zuko had gone. The city could provide them with means of transportation much quicker than the Basilisk lizards .. as well as some missed luxuries. Bringing her dear brother and uncle home.. would take some time, This she knew.. and time was always on their side. It had been two years since Zuko had been sent on the wild turtlegoose chase to capture the Avatar and he had failed miserably. He would not succeed.
[Let's end this.. and I'm going to try and reach our Ty lee.]

Jaw tightening as she saw the princess advance even more rapidly, Mai had no choice but to kick the heel of her boots into the lizard’s side once more. His touch skin yielded to her signal and again his body lurched forward with more urgency. A glance to her right, then left, revealed little of importance. She had been through this land before, when making the journey to the Earth kingdom city with her parents. Reflecting back on her stay in New Ozai and what it led to, Azula’s recruiting her, Mai had to accept that it had actually turned in her favor. No thanks to her mother’s advice of simply grinning and bearing the tedium.
The fingerless gloves and holsters on her arm were exposed as her falu-pink sleeves were pushed back. What her parents had recently deemed home was drawing much too close. She knew they would be successful in this mission; Azula would tolerate nothing but her brother’s capture and that worried Mai. No doubt his mind was still set on capturing the Avatar no matter what the cost and bringing him back would not be as simple as inviting him on a one way ship to the Fire Nation. The group’s silence mad her tension worse. The young knife-thrower hated long rides with little happening in between miles, though such expeditions seemed to make up her life. The planes Mai and her friends currently rode along grew out in all directions and she exhaled deeply. It was going to be another long day.
[Mai Out?]
