After a day's worth of travel, Aang had decided to move the reigns and signal Appa to touch down. It was near a river bed in the forests outskirting Bei Sing Sai where Appa had made his resting place and nestled himself on his back between two tall oak trees, almost like a comfy little hamock.
This is perfect. Aang thought to himself, A nice peaceful place to rest a while before going into the city to stock up.
Despite the immense amount of practice he'd had, sitting on Appa and directing his flight for hours never got less tedious or uncomfortable. He went over to the river bed and stretched his arms above his head, breathing in the crisp early morning air.
"So.." he started cheerily turning to Katara, "What'dya think we'll need to get when we go to the market place?" His stomach growled violently at his last word. "I know for a fac that we're low on food." he said while clutching at his thin middle.

"Well of course! I'm starved!" Piped up moan from Appa's saddle. Sokka lifted his head. He was tired and hungry. "We've been flying on Appa for days! 'Bout time we stopped." Sokka hopped off of Appa and washed his face in the cool water. "Katara sleeping Aang, it's best not wake her." Said the warrior in a matter-of-fact tone. Sokka stood up and stretched he dicided a walk would cure the stiffness in his legs.
The forest was cool and deep, Sokka could tell what lived here by the tracks on the earth. Possum, fox, playapus bear. Many kinds of creatures, but notice another track in the earth. Foot prints, humans have been here. Though the tribsmen couldn't tell if it was friend or foe so he went back and told Aang.
"Aang it think there is another village near by, I saw fresh foot prints in the soil. "

The young waterbender's eyes fluttered open at the sound of her brother's 'high and mighty' voice. Just like Sokka.. loud enough to wake the dead. Katara pushed herself upright, blinking in the sunlight. "I'm awake, Sokka.. I'm awake.. no thanks to you.." She rose to her feet and stepped carefully out of Appa's saddle and down the bison's strong tail. A friendly pat was given to the soft, dry fur of the bison's back as thanks for the lift. Katara then turned to her Aang, but not before casting a glance towards her brother.
"I don't know about you.. but I think some bathing soaps would be nice." She pipped up, waving a hand infront of her dark-skinned face. What I smell is neither Momo or Appa.. that's for sure...." The young woman chuckled, dropping her hands to her waist. She turned quickly to gain a look at their surroundings. "..We also need to keep practicing your waterbending, Aang. Perhaps this evening.."

Suoh walked into the clearing, supporting himself on his stick. He was mostly recovered from his spastic use of earthbending to escape Bai Seng Sei, but still not fully rejuvenated. He could bend again, but if he had to bend his way down the side of a mountain... he wouldn't be able to handle it.
Suoh looked at the bison, and then at the three people. His mouth opened in surprise. A flying bison? But, weren't those almost extinct? They didn't live around here... Wait, didn't the Avatar have one? Wasn't the Avatar bald? Suoh looked at the three people. Yeah, one of them was indeed bald and had a bison and even had the Airbender arrows on his head and arms. Was he the Avatar?
"Are you... the Avatar?" he asked finally, when his voice, startled out of him, came back as a whisper, barely audible. Then he cleared his throat and repeated himself, "You're the Avatar, aren't you?" This time his voice, though still quieter than usual, carried across the clearing.
He continued looking at the young man and his wooden staff, the tattoos of arrows plainly visible on his body. He had to be the Avatar, either that or an impersonator. But if he is an impersonator, where did he get a flying bison?

Aang distorted his face into an irritated frown at Katara's suggestion. He squated near the bed of the river and began to twist his wrist listlessly over the water, lifting and twirling the cool liquid into odd shapes. He had been hoping to take a break from practicing water bending, or any kind of bending for that matter. Then again, who was he to say he was overworked when all he'd done for the past couple of days was sleep and fly?
He looked up and put on his best grin, still swirling the water. "Sure Katara, I'd still like to get the hang of using those freezing type moves."
A sudden, unfamiliar voice uttered a statement from the side of his hearing. Someone had apparently found them. Aang looked about until his eyes fell on the stranger.
"What? Oh, well, you tell me."

Suoh quickly dropped prostrate before the boy. "Welcome back, Avatar," he said, still prostrate. He couldn't believe it! The rumors had been true! He'd only half-believed them, but here the rumors were true!
Suoh stood after a moment. "I am sorry if I interrupted anything. I didn't plan on meeting the Avatar today! Still, it is a great honor. Probably the greatest for me in my life!" He knew he was rambling, but he really didn't care at that point. The Avatar!
Then he actually noticed the other two people. "Ah, these must be the other two companions I've heard about in rumor. The Water Bender and the Fighter. Again, I am honored. The two of you must be really great to travel with the Avatar!" Suoh ralized now that he was beginning to sound like a 'fan-boy' and he decided to back off just a little.
Suoh cleared his throat. "Anyway, it is an honor, sirs and madam, and I thank you for all of the work you're doing to liberate the world from this war." He bowed low again, though he stayed on his feet this time.

They walked for a good half hour before the guards stopped and shoved his things at Sarad making him stumble. "Thank you for my toys, you narrow-minded fools," He smiled a devilish grin dropping all, but his scimitar on the dirt patched ground. The sunlight dancing in lines on his face as it streamed through the thick foliage that was pushed around by the sort wind. "Little brat," One man said angered, both men unsheathing their swords. Sarad noticed the standard issue that confirmed what he already believed, these two were simple privates. "You follow orders like stupid dogs. If you had any brains in those heads of yours you would never have returned my... toys" An even larger smile spread on his face as he stepped into a battle stance. Sure these men out weighed him and they had the power of fire on their sides, but power without knowledge is worthless. "Will cut you down to size, stinking gypsy," Both men spat on the ground and charged at Sarad.
For some time he blocked there moves, stabs and all, but he had sadly misjudged the twos ability and now he was beginning to tire. He wasnft positive, but he could swear they had been fighting for at least an hour. His cocky smile was long gone from his face and a thick sweat had broken out on his forehead as he blocked repeatedly, not for a second able to attack. gNot so tough now are you, gypsy,h one said as the other laughed, both continuing to attack with precise moves. gYou will not beat me in the end, I would never lose to such high strung dim-wits,h He panted between words determined to win in some way. He would never admit that maybe he had picked a fit with the wrong people. A single step cursed his battle. Pushed backwards by the oncoming attacks he had automatically been walking backwards and after such a long time he had stopped paying attention to his foot fall, concentrating all his energy on staying alive. Rushing water clasped around his left leg pulling him off balance, the Fire Nation guards laughing as he was soaked. A stinging pain exploded on his right cheek. Dropping his sword into the water he clasped the deep cut that one guards sword had dug when he had fallen. gAre you finished, little girl?h He asked wiping Saradfs blood from his blade, the other laughing idiotically. Sarad didnft reply just let out a cry of rage grabbing his sword from the river bottom where it had rested. They both laughed as he lunged at them fiercely landing blow after blow, the men easily blocking him. This only lasted for about a minute before the gleaderh of the two throw Sarad backwards into a small boy. Their laughs stopped immediately. gAvatarch Was all they could manage.

The young woman would smile at the airbender as he grimaced. Her hands rose to her hips, resting just below the belt of seal-fur that she wore around her waist. Her slender brows lifted in a amusement, bright blue eyes flashing. "Good. I could even use some practice at those. It's one thing to create ice at the North pole, it's another to create ice in the Earth Kingdom." She dropped her hands, turning her back on the others to examin what little supplies they had.
...She lifted her head, caught in the middle of counting the fruit they had left, by another voice. Katara glanced over her shoulder, straightening from her crouch. "Uh..." A weak smile was given to Sokka off to the side. Her smile quickly turned into a frown as Sokka had occupied himself with his tracking.. and his ego of course. She clasped her hands together, stepping forward. "Um.. heh.. Thank you.. but really.. we aren't that great.."

Riyo and Senuik collasped at the edge of the river, panting hard. "I hope...they lost the trail," gasped Sen, who was on his knees almost in the water. Riyo sat up, her legs aching and throbbing from running so far. "They better. We don't have the strength to go any further." She pushed hair from her eyes and looked around.
It was a peaceful place, trees surrounding the river. The river itself looked safe to drink out of, and Riyo went ahead and took a mouthful. "Well, Sen, I have good news and bad news." Sen looked at her blankly. "Bad news first." "Well, the bad news is we're still lost." "And the good news?!" "Good news: This is a river. We follow it, we get saved. We find our villiage. Simple." Sen wasn't convinced. But he didn't argue. He just lay on his back. Riyo stood up to see if she could find some fruit trees, but instead caught a faint glimpse of Fire Nation soldiers nearby. "Oh, no...more bad news, Sen." He looked up at her. "Now what?" "Fire Nation soldiers, dead ahead." "AUGH!"

Sokka lifted his head and noticed Suoh. "What!? Where did you come from?" Sokka shook his head. He didn't believe this some random guy just randomly walked into their camp.
Sokka watched him introduce himself and praised Aang. The tribal warrior rolled his eyes, he heard it all before. Yes we know, the Almighty Avatar blah blah blah Sokka sighed "Yeah yeah, we've heard it before. So what are you doing here? Hopefully not to worship Aang. Though I wouldn't mind an offering of gold." Sokka laughted a his own joke.
"So are we staying or going, 'cause I don't feel like being Fire Nation fodder. I saw tracks in the woods, I think they might be Fire Nation. We should go just to be safe." Sokka was ready to climb on Appa when he looked at the crew "Well? Are we going?"

Sarad untangled himself from the boy he had been thrown into and rushed to his feet after scrambling for his blade. He panted, swallowing air like a mad man. Not only had he been blocking the stupid soldiers for an hour, but running as well and his fall in the river hadn't made things better. He prepared to fight further when he noticed the soldiers just stood dumbfounded, knee deep in the river. "What's wrong, to dumb to keep fighting!?" Sarad yelled ignoring anyone around him. He was dead set on beating the guards no matter how tired he was. "Nakama!" A brown feathered Falcon perched on is shoulder seconds later. "Avatar," the two said in unison, smiling like maniacs. He could only imagine what was going through their heads, probably thoughts of capturing the Avatar, idiots. "Let's keep this between us," He yelled, not wanting anyone to fight by his side. He was stubborn like that, he hated help and he hated losing even more.

Suoh saw the troops, before he could answer Sokka about the gold. He immediately went on the defensive. If they though about attacking the Avatar, the one last hope of the world... Well, Suoh wouldn't just stand idly by and allow that.
Suoh earthbended two fist-sized pieces of dirt. He quickly compacted those, and made them into a rock. It wasn't perfectly hard, but it would hurt on impact. He started these rotating around his body, right now defensive but ready to fly at any troops.
"Avatar, sir. Maybe you should go. Really, I can handle these guys and you shouldn't risk hurting yourself. You are our last hope, you know. You shouldn't even waste your time on these Fire Nation guppies."
He began a slow advance toward the soldiers. He heard Sarad's yell, but didn't care. "No, where the Fire Nation are involved, all should step in to fight those dogs until they whine." He continued his advance, now bending the rocks right into his hands, ready to throw them.
He was now only thirt yards from the Fire Nation troops. They had just been staring at the Avatar, but now they began an advance. Suoh quickly threw a rock right between the heads of two soldiers, and then with a qick gesture, split it in two and sent it flying into their faces. While that was going on, he threw the other and did the same, only this time he directed the rock-halves into the groins of the soldiers. There was a resounding sound of metal on the second attack.
Darn, they're wearing cups. That would've worked better if they hadn't been. He quickly stomped into the ground in the direction of the soldiers, sending the earth rolling right up to them, sending them off balance.
Are they this dimwitted from seeing the Avatar? he thought, preparing another attack.

"HEY YOU JERK, I'M FIRE NATION!" Sarad yelled at the man that passed him, who obviously didn't care. well technically, he thought. He was ticked now, how dare this man interrupted his fight, just because he knew bending didn't mean he was superior. Sarad hated benders they were so cocky, it made him sick. "Listen," Sarad ran up behind the man, putting his knife to his back. "This is my fight," He had to pant to yell, still short of breathe from running. "Just because you can bend doesn't give you the right to take my prey." Nakama accompanied his shouting with a squeal, leaving his shoulder to circle the hit Fire Nation troops. "I swear I will kill you if you don't back down." Sarad just stood, sword shaking slightly in his hand as he strained to keep it against the mans back. He could feel his legs turn to jelly under him and knew his vision would soon blur, it happened all the time when he over exerted himself and now was no different.

Riyo felt hopeless. Great, a bunch of fighting people over there and no place to go. Perfect. She sighed dismally and leaned against a tree, arms crossed and head down. Senuik watched her curiously. "What are you doing?" Riyo replied in a slow, soft voice, "I'm thinkin'." Sen rolled his eyes. They'd be here awhile.
Problem number one: Find a way to get back to the villiage without getting skewered, burned, or drowned. Or any combination of the three. Riyo tossed ideas around. She had to come up with something fast or they'd be stuck out here forever...or worse...be found and grounded. She glanced over at Senuik. He was crouched on his knees, enjoying the fight thoroghly. Good thing they probably couldn't see him all the way over here.

Suoh sighed, the sword against his back. He raised his staff up a little bit, as if in surrender, and then threw himself forward while bending the staff to go into two halves, enveloping the sword's blade and sealing over it. With a quick bend he bendind the staff entirely up its length and then pulled with his arms, the sword coming out of the grip.
"Look, you are about to collapse and Fire Nation or not these soldiers will kill you."
Suoh bended the staff to get the sword out an then held it in his hand. He turned around, watching a Fire Nation soldier headed his way. He threw the sword at the ground, feeling it sink into the ground a little as the tip hit the soft earth. He quickly dropped low, flying toward the soldier. As he drew closer, he bended the staff to become a spike at one end and, after dodging a fireball by going to the left, he got back on course and slammed the spike into the soldier's stomach.
Suoh heard the pained grona from the man and felt a little warm blood on his hands as it ran down the staff. Quickly, he removed the staff and bended it back to normal, jumping into the air and whirling, bringing the staff quickly against the back of a second soldier's neck. He heard a sickening snap and then the soldier fell to the earth.
Suoh was ready to fight Sarad if he had to, but he hoped he wouldn't.
