Sarad's eyes opened wide in alarm as his sword was wrenched from his hands then thrown to the ground in front of him. He scrambled for the sword afraid to lose it. The sword was a gift from his father and his most precious possession, he simply couldn't lose it. "You... Jerk," He gasped out, his breath unwilling to go back to normal after such major exertions. "They... were... mine. I may... be... of the Fire Nation, but... I will still kill all... that oppose me." He dug the tip of his sword into the ground and used it to pull himself up. "Now... you die," but after only seconds on his feet he collapsed onto th soft earth, vision blurring. He watched unmoving as a pair of feet walked towards him. Everything swam in his vision, dizzying him. He wanted to get up and fight the man who had intervened, but his body was beyond any movement. Finally everything went black and his mind and body relaxed as he passed out completely.

Riyo was leaning against the back of a tree, almost asleep, when Sen gave a surprised yelp. "What is it now, Senuik?" she asked wearily. Sen got to his feet, a look of fascination in his eyes. "The kid fighting all those Fire Nation soldiers...fainted, I guess." Riyo hauled herself up and peered over at the battle area. "Uh-oh. Maybe he pushed himself too hard....wait, Sen, where are you going?!" Sen had pushed out of their hiding place and was walking toward the fallen boy and the other man. "Hello," he said carelessly as he got closer. "Um...your brother's not dead, is he?"
Riyo watched him, seething. "Why is he so nutty?" she muttered between clenched teeth. She sighed and decided to watch secretly and make sure Sen didn't kill himself. An ant ran across her foot, and she brushed it off with a light groan. Well, extra chores for me this month...

When Sarad woke it was dark and he was alone. what the hell happened[/i[ he thought as he looked around. The shallow stream made a gurgling sound as the water moved over the soft rocks beneath it's surface. he sat on it's small bank which was choked by trees from the dark forest behind him. Now he remembered he had picked a fight with the Fire Nation soldiers, but the other people who had interfered, he couldn't even remember any of their faces. Oh well, it was of little importance to him, no his real problem now was his parents, no doubt they were worried sick. he had no idea how long he had been out, but he was sure it was at least a good half a day. "Nakama?" He looked up into the sky, nothing. where could she be? she didn't often leave him except by his wishes and when she hunted. Yes that must be it she must be out hunting. He stood after a while brushing sand from his clothes and hair. "Into the woods then." He turned around and began walking, his stiff clothes rubbing roughly against the skin beneath them.

"Um.. guys.. I think we should get out of here.." Katara spoke warily, shifting her weight to her back foot as she assumed a stance. One hand clutched her waterskin tightly, the cork already hanging by it's string. Her blue eyes shifted towards Aang and Sokka, before ahead to the strangers infront of them. This was exactly why Katara hated landing in random forests.. that meant random people.. who could be random Fire Nation Soliders. They didn't need this... not when they had food to find, water bending to learn, and Sokka's sanity to maintain.
Katara suddenly whipped around, her dark braid flying through the air like a cat o' nine tails. The tails of her dress floated around her legs as she raced towards Appa, circling around the massive bision to scramble up his tail. Her hands dug into his thick fur as she scrambled over into the saddle. "Aang! Sokka! Let's go!"

Sokka braced himself for battle, eye were keen and ready for fight. "Alright lay it on me!" He took a pose and ready his boomerang. But as he was ready to bolt into battle he heard Katara:
"Um.. guys.. I think we should get out of here.."
Sokka snorted, and rolled his eyes. Leave it to his sister to mess things up.
"Aww Kat-tar-rah!" He said accenting the syallables. He knew there was no way in the seven levels of H*ll he was getting out of this one. "Do you always have to run and turn tail like this when the fight is getting good?" Sokka would never admit it, but his sister was right. He sighed and put back his boomerang. "Fine, fine." and with that, Sokka turned around and sprinted to the Skybison. He called to the Avatar.
"Lets go Aang! We don't have time for this anymore.."

Aang didn't understand how so many people could dread the coming of the Avatar. Prior to his being frozen, the coming of the Avatar was considered sacred and pleasant...not an event to shun and fear. He supposed the Fire Nation had a good reason, as he was plotting against their ambitions and dreams of conquest and glory. However, it was because of them he could no longer turn the other cheek. Forget destiny, this was his duty.
The young air nomad took a few steps back to distance himself from their enemies, his staff drawn and positioned for an assault. Then he heard the melody of Katara's concern tone from above him and with a slight glance noticed she had already mounted Appa.
"Yeah, I know!"
Aang quickly turned tail and headed for the large white mountain of fur, and once close enough applied air currents to the sole of his feet in order to propel him from the ground and into the driver's seat of the saddle. Once Sokka had come aboard, Aang wasted no time in snapping the reigns to bring his fuzzy friend to attention.
"Appa, yip yip!"
The flying bison lifted its head and launched into the air with little effort, which was extraordinary considering how truly gargantuan of a creature he was. Now that Aang and his friends were in the shielding skies, he turned his face and gave them a slight smile that bordered dangerously close to a smirk. True, that last encounter had been a close one, but the fact was now they were safe and sound.
"That was a close one. Next time we land, we should make sure we're alone."

Katara sighed heavily, her soft blue eyes rolling up into her head as her body fell back against the rolled packs of sleeping bags on Appa's saddle. She drew her arms up to her chest, wrapping them around the perriwinkle blue Yukata as the wind began to whip her hair strands about her face. She let her lower lip fall open, and her body relaxed. "...I just don't like.. landing in the middle of no where and having a crowd come upon us. It's suspcious.. don't you agree, Sokka?" Katara's head rolled over to the young man, her older brother, and came to rest on her shoulder. Pulling one knee to her chin, she turned her torso towards him, letting the split skirt of the Yukata fall across her legging clad calf.

Katara frowned at her older brother for not giving her an answer. Sher lips parted as she rolled her eyes and head, making a 'scoffing' noise with her throat. One dark hand, slender fingers pressed together rose up and quickly smacked the warrior's bald head. "Sokka! Are you ignoring me?" Turning away from him, she stood up and crossed the curved saddle. Katara's braid flew back from her neck, the wind rustling against the soft fabric of her blue yukata. Reaching the horn of the saddle, she leaned against it, looking up at the back of the Avatar sitting on the giant furry mound that was Appa's head. "Aang.. we should probably try to find you an Earth Bending teaching. Why don't you land at the next town and we can ask around? "

Aang was slightly preoccupied with his own thoughts when Katara addressed him. He had been pondering the idea of how to keep his friends safe while trying not to be so careless as to land any where. What if the next stop housed a Fire Nation camp or settlement? Would they just keep trying, and trying...and trying? This journey was slowly starting to get tiring, and he hadn’t even started mastering the other elements yet!
He barely heard Katara’s request, though her voice rang distant in his ears. He looked slightly over his shoulder at his Southern companion with a somewhat blank expression spread across his face.
“Hmm?”
Suddenly, her words began to string themselves together within his mind and he was able to revive what she had said. He gave her a half-hearted smile to reassure her that he really had been paying attention, despite...well, not actually tuning in on her when she had speaking to him.
“Okay, sounds like a plan to me. We’ll land just as soon as we make sure the town is safe.”
He then clicked the reigns once, snapping the ropes ever-so-lightly against his large, furry comrade’s neck.
“Appa, yip yip!”

Sokka sighed and leaned against the saddle. When he heard his sister question. "Well duh, Aang is a walking sign, his arrow gives it away. It's like 'hey! Look at me! I'm the kid that you want to arrest!' Aang's shiny bald head, isn't too conpicious" Sokka rambled as he looked out to the ocean below.
Momo chattered and cocked his head around before pearching on Sokka shoulder. "Don't you some else to pearch and- Hey!" Momo began grooming Sokka, the waterwarrior sighed and rolled his eyes. As he let the little primate pick at his wolftail. He took out his boomerang and began sharping it. "We should be making camp agian soon," He stomach growled very loudly. "If that was any indication for why. We haven't eating yet. Or do we have any food." He asked to anyone listening. SOkka sighed and continued sharping. "Fine, ignore me. I don't have anything vaulble to say apparently"

When Sokka finally saw fit to speak, Aang couldn't help but grow defensive towards his words. While he wouldn't lose his temper, he did feel an overwhelming sense of pride for his heritage. He bitterly retorted his friend's tresspassing vocalizations though he never raised his voice. He did, however, tighten his grip on Appa's reigns and lowered his head slightly.
"This is the tradition of the monks. I'm not going to go against my oath just to hide..."
Aang knew deep down that was somewhat childish, but a greater part of him told him that discarding the garb of a monk was far too dishonorable. Besides, with his nation gone, someone had to represent the air nomads somehow. They had made it this far with him retaining the same reflection. He doubted any altercation would help their case any way.
After a few minutes Sokka reminded Aang just how hungry he was. His stomach gurgled at the mention of food and he laughed a little nervously. Well, that would answer Sokka's question all right.
"Once we land we can find food."
Aang set his silver eyes towards the ground and spent several minutes scanning the area. Finally, he pointed towards a rural-looking village that seemed to be growing lifeless with the setting sun.
"Hey! How about down there?"

"It's alright, Aang.. we're not going to force you to change your clothes.. even if they are a little.. well smelly." Katara said softly, crawling down the soft fur of Appa to reachout and place a hand on the Avatar's narrow shoulder. The waterbender smiled and then pushed herself back up the neck of the flying bision, her fingers grasping tuffs of hand to support until she flopped over the side of the saddle. Her dark face grimaced at Sokka's remarks about food, also reminding her of the gurgling stomach she had managed to silence for a few hours since their meager breakfast of a rat Sokka had managed to catch.
She sighed heavily, bright sapphire eyes drooping towards the folds of her perrwinkle dress as she folded her legs underher and sat. "We really should avoid towns.. but we haven't seen any Fire Nation, espically Zuko in any of the few we've visited since leaving the North pole. We all could use a nice bed to sleep in at least.. a good meal. But the money Cheif Arnook gave us isn't going to last forever." Katara turned and looked over the edge of the saddle, down at the lands they were passing as they soared on the back of Appa. She eyed the city, suspiciously and then nodded. "Okay, Aang, lets stop there and see if anyone will give us beds for night. Put on your charm."

Aang laughed a bit and grinned at Katara, she was just amazing sometimes. Her words always gave him the encouragement he needed. " okay! here we go, Yip yip!"
The bison picked up speed heading for the village and the young avarars eyes shined with the prospect of a new teacher or some warm food. Either would be greatfully accepted. Maybe Katara was right though, some new clothes might not hurt. Wearing shades of yellow and orange made him stick out like a sore thumb and if nothing else his tatoos may lead to some trouble. He was the avatar, he couldn't take any chances... The fire nation had come to close at the north pole. His fate was the worlds fate, if he died a new avatar would be born but they wouldn't be able to do anything for many years and by then the earth kingdom would crumble.
What was he worried for? the greatest adventure of his life was right around the bend. Soon he'd defete lord Ozia and crush the Fire nations dictatorship in one swoop. Then maybe he could take some time to see about finding other air benders.... surely there had to be a few left, maybe they went into hiding like katara's tribe. "sokka you hang on back there!"
