Desna found herself bored with her routine, day in and day out the same thing. The same thing seemed to be a little tiresome and her attention was slipping further and further from where it should be. The morning she came into Shai, she sold her herbs and bought her supplies and then she walked about lazily. It wasn't any surprise she found herself down by the docks with no real way to explain how she'd got there. Something had been nagging at her mind and as much as she thought about it she just couldn't manage to place it.
Her hair was kept up it's usual messy fashion, on her body the typical poncho hung, she'd tried to focus on picking out fish for herself and Pikatti and stood there for a few minutes until the man decided to try and snap her out of it. The harbor had it's usual liviliness but in the scheme of things it was pretty dull. Her eyes traveled over the various small patrol ships and finally fell on the large iron vessel that seemed to dominate the harbor. The ship would be leaving soon wouldn't it? Would Aden be on it when it left? He was a warrior, she knew that much but they hadn't talked about it ever, their friendship was pretty shallow as far as things like that were concerned.
She didn't want it to be like that, she wanted to know a lot more about him, was that normal for friends? Her lungs contorted and twisted in an odd and unfamilur way. With a small sigh she shook her head, she needed to get out of her dull drums somehow,
Tentatively she brushed some of her hair behind her ears and stood looking up at the ship. Would it bring more war to the north and take away warriors or would it sit to rust. There were rumors about a festival coming up for the warrior who was going to lead them off to fight the firenation. She didn't have much to say about it, she was no warrior. Though she knew a few. Thinking that her friends might vanish on that big iron thing was troublesome, a bit too much so, Pikatti sat next to her and poked his nose into her palm prompting her to stroke his head idly, Everything was getting too complicated too quickly,

“So damn cold,” he thought to himself. The largest ship he’s seen belonged to the Fire Nation, and isn’t going anywhere anytime soon since Saghani didn’t know when they will leave. Bora Gan knew that this part of the world was cold. He just wished that he could brought something warm to wear. Even with the walrus hide coat and gloves, it was still cold. It has been snowing all day, which complimented his frosty colored kabuto and mempo. The hot air of his breathing escaped through the edges of his mempo and brushed across his skin.
His anger was starting to elevate only to be calmed down by gusts of wind. He shivered violently with each gust of wind that swept through the coat.
“Damn it, I need to walk around,” he said to himself. He got up from the ground and brushed the snow off of his coat. He walked toward the docks and thought to himself how they were going to attack the Fire Nation. He thought of a few strategies that might work only to be shot down. His biggest advantage would be on dry hard land, which the Water Tribe lands don’t have. He can’t even bend with the lack of earth in the area. His best chance is raiding another ship. Even then, he had to be careful when he fought. He could go overboard by accident. Leaving him with the choice of drowning or abandoning his armor. He would choose the former of course.
While he was in his thoughts, he bumped into something that gave a soft “umph” sound. Stopping in his tracks, he found a Water Tribe girl on the ground next to his feet. His depth of thought distracted him from his surroundings and accidently bumped into this girl. Her hair was long and brown with the hoodie down. He looked down on her at the ground and waited for a response while breathing his visible breath through the edges of his mempo.

She breathed softly starring up at the iron giant, it was beyond her how they managed to capture the thing, it would need repairs but she didn't know how they'd do that all the way up here, no one really was schooled in working with metals, it would have to be the captures firenation military men wouldn't it? There were heavey footfalls behind her, it didn't bother her all too much, it wasn't like he'd run into her, she was standing pretty visibly on the docks, but the footfalls came closer and her eyebrows knitted together, they sounded a bit close....
The girl went to turn and only caught the tail end of a bog guy all but knocking into her. Pikatti was spooked and took off a good feet away the sled in tow and Desna a little less than fortunate found herself stumbling forwards. " HEe-YYEEEE~!!!" In a bit of a stunt and knee jerk reaction she lifted her leg which had the ankle sprained just a day or so earlier and managed to twist on the remaining foot around and land on her back. With her arms flailing like a little bird failing at flying it must have been a sight but her rump hit the ice followed by her head a bit gentler. " UUFF!"
Opening her eyes she found her vision spinning lightly and the sky over head, man was it blue today. "Did anyone get the name of that buffalo yak.....?" She shook her head trying to think and found herself snapped back to reality rather quickly. Pikatti was growling, she registered that, but what hit her? Starting at the boots her teal eyes worked their way up the massive man and her eyes were wide like giant snowballs, was it a demon? No.. it was wearing a parka, demons don't wear parkas.. they might but they'd look awfully silly. Her head was still a little wonky it seemed but she held her hand out expecting to be helped up. The guy was big and with her barely five feet tall it was no wonder her floored her.
Getting to her feet her usually disheveled hair was even more so, in clumped locks around her shoulders with some in her face but she quickly went to patting down her poncho and her backside. " Um......" Again she looked up at the man, defiantly up, he was freaken huge. " So.... do I get an apology or can you talk through that thing..." Looking up at the man she squinted a bit, what was he? Defiantly not one of the warriors from the south pole, even they didn't wear those silly things on their faces " ... your not water tribe are you?"

The girl that he bumped into was at least polite, since Bora didn’t pay attention to where he was going. The snow was picking up a little more and the sun was rising to the east.
“An apology?” he wondered. He wiped the cumulating snow from the top of his helmet as he leaned forward to get a better look at her. She looked tiny compared to some of the other women around this area. He hummed deeply as he examined the girl to make sure she wasn’t hurt.
“You’re not hurt, are you?” he asked, his voice deep as thunder from the sky.
He continued to brush off the piling snow on his coat. The frost he didn’t mind, as the helmet is somewhat insulated with leather to keep out of contact with the metal and skin.
“Your not Water Tribe, are you?” she asked him. His eyes narrowed a little as it was apparent from the armor he wore that he wasn’t.
“Gee, I wonder what gave that away?” he grumbled loudly with traces of sarcasm in his voice, “You need to be more careful next time little lady. There are dangerous people around. Who knows? I could’ve been a bandit. What then?”
He noticed besides the little pet that she had with her, she didn’t have an escort.
“Especially by yourself. You don’t have anyone with you? That’s even more dangerous. Where are your parents at?” The air he hissed spewed out from the seams of the kabuto as he continued to look upon her.

Desna quirked an eyebrow at him in mild confusion, she'd never seen a bandit in Shai. why would anyone want to steal? If they even tried to steal from her Pikatti was a full grown polar bear dog, he'd make sure they didn't do it again. Standing his sholder came to her hip, his head was a bit taller than that.
Speaking of the animal he was still growling at the man, she stroked him trying to get his hackles to calm down, at least he knew enough to not attack unless she gave him the order.
The dog huffed in agitation and continued looking at the giant of a man in an unfavorable manner.
Parents, that one was a sore spot, she was too little to remember what happened, she knew from her grandmother, but it could have been twisted to protect her. Short story, she drowned, her dad was still around, he was the only thing the fool hardy girl feared, she had her fathers side of the family as well but they didn't care too much about her. Her mothers side was gone, her grandfather before she was born, her mother and most recently her grandmother...
" I have Pikatti with me, why would I need anyone else?" Desna smirked a bit at her own rhetorical statement, she could give the guy a bit of a guilt trip but it seemed unneeded,
Then again she might have some questions for the guy, she'd never left the north pole. She wanted to but she was tied here, there was no way she could even leave for a short time without consiquences.
" So where are you from?" Her eyes had a glitter of curiosity in them. She leaned against Pikatti with intent to keep him still. The dog, still in his harness with the sled attached dealed with it nuzzling his head into her hand.

His eyes somewhat lit up as the little girl asked him that question. The question alone was enough to make him home sick. He came up here to be healed from his wounds that Zilong placed upon him during his last battle to defend the Earth Kingdom. That seemed almost so long ago.
“I live far away,” Bora answered, “I live in the Earth Kingdom. In a place called Kei Lan.” He raised up one of his sleeves to reveal to her his battle scars, from recently to many years ago, each one tells a story.
“You see little one, I am a Major for the Earth Kingdom army. I was up here to get my wounds healed by a Water Tribeswoman so I can go back home to fight again. Each scar has a story.”
He lowered his sleeve to prevent more snow to be in contact with his skin.
“My name is Bora Gan,” he introduced himself, “Leader of the Thunderfist Battalion.”
He looked up toward the sky. He sees a front of clouds nearby coming from the waters. The clouds were a little darker than what he really wanted. It was possible that those might be storm clouds. In the Earth Kingdom, those were an indication of a storm from the sea. In the Water Tribe lands, he had no idea if it should matter.
“Umm, a dumb question,” Bora Gan asked, “Are those clouds suppose to be that dark?”

With a quirked eyebrow she watched as the man exposed his arm to the cold, it seemed like a foolish thing to do and she would have said something if he didn't seem so serious, but honestly did she need to see all his nicks and scars? Cuts and wounds like that weren't too interesting to her still it would be rude to laugh at his attempts to get frostbite.
He said he was from the earthkingdom though, that was interesting and she soon found herself with a bit of a smile. She wanted to know about the world outside the North even if she'd never leave to see it, it was one of her passions in life.
All of the military nonsense also reminded her that there was the iron ship in the harbor that may or may not be leaving with her newest friend.
" Dark clouds?" She queried looking up at the sky, it seemed fine enough to her but there might be a snow storm, it would hold off for a while.
" Doesn't seem worth worrying over." Desna said with a bit or a shrug, her attention drifted from the weather back to something she'd rather be talking about, but it would be easiest to just introduce herself so that he wouldn't call her little one anymore.
" I'm Desna by the way." She held out her hand, covered with a blue glove to keep her hands from freezing.
Before he could even shake her hand she launched questions at the man with a diligence that even the most over active child couldn't match. " So is your house made out of ice there, is it warm? Do you have snow? I heard that people can swim in the water, is that true? whats it like? Have you seen trees? How big are they?"

An eyebrow rose slightly with the questions that little Desna was asking. It’s almost as if she dreamed about going away from this place. To sate her curiosity, he went along with her questions.
“First off little girl,” Bora said, “There is hardly any snow there, so therefore, we couldn’t make any houses out of ice. Also, because there is no snow, it is in fact very warm there.”
He continued, “We do swim yes, but as an earth bender, he really don’t like the idea of swimming, since we will have no contact with the earth for our earth bending. As for trees, it all depends on where you go to see them. Some trees are really big, while others are rather diminutive in size.”
He leaned up against one of the poles at the docks. A big *clunk* could be heard from his metallic armor as he leaned.
“Why are you so curious about the Earth Kingdom? Are you that anxious to leave this place?”
He can understand if she said yes,. There is nothing here except cold wind, snow, and ice! He motioned his head toward the gargantuan iron boat of the Fire Nation that was captured. He still had it in his head that he was going to leave soon. He sighed in frustration as if he’s ready to leave in a moments noticed, and say goodbye to this ice encrusted cursed land.

He was at least answering her questions, that cheered her up a lot, if left to go she would quiz him all day and into the night but the man seemed tired and didn't really want to talk to her, she didn't care too much, she'd continue the conversation anyway.
"Well I'm a herbalist of sorts" It was truth, in fact she was rather proud, the knowledge her grandmother had passed down to her was something so foreign in this cold place. She was pretty much the only supplier of fresh herbs to the city, something that she took pride in. Of course a large portion of what she cultivated went to the healing huts, she was doing just as her grandmother did in her youth. It made her feel closer to the woman even though she was long gone....
"The plants that I have are generations old though, they were brought here by my grandfather when he was younger." Some people would shut up by now but she kept going, not like he seemed to have anywhere better to go.
"I've always wanted to see where they came from, you know, the kind of place that they grow naturally in." Many people in the north had never left before, aside from the soldiers and traders here and there but not her, she couldn't leave even if she wanted to.
" So if your in the military and from the earth kingdom you'd know about the ship over there right?" To illustrate she pointed towards the iron piece of junk in the harbor. " Do you think.... they'll be taking a lot of men?"

An herbalist she said. It’s odd that someone from the Water Tribe was actually proficient in being an herbalist, being it’s so cold around here.
“An herbalist huh?” Bora said, “Funny finding someone out here that can actually do what you said.”
The girl pointed at the ship. The iron clad ship of the Fire Nation stood there proudly. He still can’t believe that a marvel such as that could be captured so easily.
“That’s a Fire Nation warship,” Bora told Desna, “It’s the workhorse ship of the Fire Nation navy. Nearly all the navy has at least a couple of those ships in it’s fleet. It’s able to launch fireballs by using a catapult to hurl big chunks of flaming rock at opposing ships. This sort of ship is nothing to mess with.”
He looked at her with his stoic eyes. Her eyes seemed warm, considering how cold it is around here.
“And to answer your question little Desna, yes. We will be transporting many of the Water Tribe warriors on the ship. I will be on that ship with them. Other than that, I can’t say much more. It‘s confidential. You know, military secrecy. It happens a lot, which I really don‘t care for.”
He looked at her once more, “Why are you so curious? You ever heard of that saying, ‘Curiosity kills the Pygmy Panther?’ That that it would, but it’s just a saying.”

Desna rubbed the back of her neck idly with a bit of a smile, it was rather odd for someone to specialize in plants in a frozen tundra she imagined. As far as she knew she was the only one in the entire northpole able to keep living plants from the earth kingdom. She was rather proud of it actually, sure it made her odd, and she had to live out on the shelf so that the plants could get clear sunlight filtered through the ice on the ceiling of the greenery. All in all it was worth it, she was able to provide the city of shai a service and it set her apart from everyone else.
But that ship, it was going to the earth kingdom and she was always curious about that sort of thing still when the idea of her newest friend leaving on that thing came up, well it made her nervous. Was it wrong to feel that way? Usually she didn't worry, about anything. A lot of the time she didn't even worry about her own well being.
For some reason the man asking her point blank why she was curious about it made her blush. People could worry about their friends, it was normal and natural... right? " Well..." Desna adverted her eyes glancing back at the ship for lack of a better subject to focus on, she really would love it if her body would stop acting so weird when ever she thought about Aden. When she was with him she didn't feel weird, but when she wasn't... " I have a friend who just came back from the earth kingdom, I was worried he might be leaving again, I mean... not that it matters..."

Bora never really knew it, but he never really had a normal conversation with anyone. Every time he talked to someone, it was either in a military manner or it had something to do with business. This little girl made him realize that even when he’s a warrior, she reminded him that he was still a human being.
“I have a friend who just came back from the earth kingdom, I was worried he might be leaving again, I mean... not that it matters..." She said nervously. Even with all the cold air around him, he did noticed a change in color around her cheekbones. Apparently, she really cares for this Water Tribe warrior that might be on this expedition. He placed his large hand on Desna’s head. Behind the mempo, he smiled, knowing that whoever she was talking about is in good hands.
“If he believes in the warrior ways and fights like a true warrior, than he has no fear of death,” he reassured her, “Who is he? What is his name? How did you two meet? What does he look like?”
He knew that the barrage of questions would make little Desna nervous when she spoke about him, which is all he needs to figure out how much she cares for him. He never removed his massive hand from her head. He kept it on, seeing how she will react and awaits her questions.

Desna smiled a little bit at the large man, he was trying to cheer her up, it was kinda silly though. She didn't know what much about Aden, she assumed he'd be a fierce warrior and would try his hardest. On the snow ball field he was a worthy adversary. he was ruthless but it was hard imagining him fighting off firebenders. Sorta scary but in reality she didn't know what happened. She didn't know him until he came back from the siege and then he might have been a different person, she wasn't blind, war changed people.
" His name is Aden, he's a warrior and we met..... by accident. " She smiled a bit thinking back, honestly it wasn't that long ago but it seemed ages in the past. " I bumped into him and he helped me fix my sled, then we just kept running into one another, as far as what he looks like, he'd got a silly poof on his head." Desna put her hands behind her head illustrating where it was and then she smiled a bit. "He's got braids on the side of his face and THE most amazing ice blue eyes ever."
She figured he was kind of tall, medium shoulders, he seemed athletic, she didn't know what to say about that. He would rub his neck when he felt self conscious, fiddle with his side braids when he was nervous but aside from that, wait, was he assuming they were... They weren't, were they? Did she like him? They were just friends weren't they?
There was such an odd feeling in the pit of her stomach that she couldn't place and she could feel her face heat up. There was a firm line between friendship and love, she'd never had anyone cross it with reason but, no, there was no way.

He could see the blushing in her face again. She really does care for this Aden person. Bora smiles behind his mask as he looks upon her again.
“So you do care for this boy?” Bora asked, “This answers everything. So predictable.”
He stands back up again, looking at Desna, then walking behind her. It appears that he is checking her over for a few things, like stance. He growls deeply as he circles her. He then came to a decision.
“Tell you what Desna,” he said, “It may just work, but I might get you to come with me to the Earth Kingdom. You said it yourself, you never been out of the Water Tribe lands. Now is your chance. You can say that you are retrieving herbs for the warriors here to use. It will be perfect. You will be doing your nation a large favor by gathering medicine for the wounded. It would be a noble cause. Also, you will finally see the glories of the Earth Kingdom. That, and you will be with your boyfriend again some more. What do you think?”
He continues to stand behind her, waiting for what her decision and bodily reaction. The snow starts to pick up again as the snow storm from a distance makes it’s way forward toward their position. The wind also picks up a little from the storm in the distance.

Desna found herself stiffened as Bora Gan circled her and attempted to size her up. It was so odd. Her cheeks flushed and she was agape. Did it honestly seem like she was- with him- it just! The girl found herself bright red and stuttering over words she couldn't even start to form.
Going to the Earth Kingdom would be her dream but she couldn't leave her plants, they would without a doubt freeze and be destroyed by the end of the week. There was no way she could go. Her house would be frozen over and everything she'd worked so hard to preserve and freeze in her life would be destroyed without a thought. But being with Aden... It was appealing and yet they were just friends. They were just friends, she would miss him... but she wouldn't care in the long run. Would she.
Snow hit her in the face and she shook her head sputtering over herself. " He's not my boyfriend!" She tried to weasel her way out of the conversation but it seemed futile. " We're friends, he's my friend."
Her heart raced though, maybe she did like him but she didn't want to admit it. Her sense of self preservation stopped her from continuing the train of thought any further than it had already gone. " Besides if I leave my plants would freeze and die."
