Nakamura was really getting tired of sitting in jail, not because he was worried about what was going to happen, or where he was going, or who he was going with, or even why. He just didn't care about that anymore.
It was the boredom that got to him.
It wasn't the food, it wasn't the company, it was just the boredom.
What could he do? He just SAT all day. He did some push-ups and sit-ups when the guards weren't looking to keep fit, and he shaved when they let him, but he didn't actually get to really DO anything.
One plus was that they'd given him his backpack and belongings back. He wrote in his journal sometimes, but there was little to write about- "Still in jail, still bored."
His thoughts often turned back to Raine, or to Thayari. He could have stayed in the Earth Kingdom. He could have been free- but he decided to come back. And this was how they treated him when he tried to make peace? Seriously not cool. Not cool.
So he was stuck here, and probably would be for a while. He sat back against the wall, his legs sprawled out in front of him. He'd just finished his lunch, and his utensiles and the bones of it were laying out on his tray. He was probably going to be there until dinner.
He closed his eyes and groaned.

A pair of boots made soft footsteps against the floors of the jail. The metal door screeched irritably as it was pushed open. As soon as Lin made it past the doorway, it slammed shut behind her. She shivered a bit.
There was a feeling of hostility to this place. Lin didn't like it. Swallowing some, she hesitantly moved down the hallway of cells. A chill or two shivered up and down her spine and made her shudder some. At this, her limbs felt stiff. Her senses seemed to heighten at the awareness of possible danger that could befall upon her.
"Hey Sis!"
Lin gasped a little and jumped back. Her arm hit against the bars of a cell across from the sudden voice. She let out an agrivated breath and somewhat relaxed. "Hello, Yuu." His fingers curled around the bars as he stood. A crooked smile was on his face. "Mom send you to bust me out?"
"No," Lin sneered. "Kita forced me to come here and visit you, but I intend to leave you here until tomorrow."
"What?!"
The girl scoffed at him. "Only a little payback. Besides, how am I supposed to get you out of here without paying some sort of fine?"
"You have that water skin, don't you?"
"...No, Yuu."
"Please?"
"I said no!" Lin groaned and rubbed her temples. "You need to learn a thing or two about staying out of trouble, and time spent in here will allow that."

He sighed. The other silent prisoner they'd brought in had a visitor? Well, people apparently cared about HIM, at least. Even though Nakamura had done nothing wrong. He sighed, listening to them bicker.
The girl seemed to be very animated about her brother's activities... very frustrated. It reminded him of Raine, how energetic she used to be. Wherever she was, anyway. He smiled softly in remembrance of her. She always was one to bring his spirits up. Whether it was winning a drinking battle with pirates, saving his skin in Zhy, or just the memory of the girl herself, it was always enough to make him smile. A painful, but lasting memory that brought him enjoyment.
The girl was finishing her little dialogue it seemed like. She told her brother that he needed to learn something about staying out of trouble. Supposedly, this was supposed to deter him? Nakamura scoffed loudly, and rolled his eyes. He probably wasn't supposed to talk to the girl, so he didn't- but WOW, did she have it wrong. This place taught you NEVER to eat the clams they served, and to look forward to the shrimp. To sleep as long as possible, but not to miss meals. To stay silent, but not to think inwardly. That was what this place taught you. Not another thing.

Lin turned her head at the loud outburst of laughter. She stepped a little to the right, her heel crushing against the soft ice. She irked an eyebrow, but she didn't ask any further questions. Perhaps the scolding she gave her brother merely amused another prisoner.
"Hey, shut up over there!" Yuu obnoxiously yelled out. His voice echoed down the cells. Lin reached her foot in and kicked him through the bars.
"Will you knock it off?" she scolded.
He fell back laughing at her. "Knock off what?"
Lin gave another heavy sigh. Why had the spirits cursed her with such a nuisance of a brother? Then again, why did they give her an annoying little sister?
"Maybe I should just go ahead and leave you here--"
"No, no!" Yuu blurted, reaching out and grabbing her wrist. "I-I don't like it in here. Please stay a little bit?"
"Why should I?"
"To keep me company? Come on, little sis. Ume would stay."
"Well, I'm not Ume. I would never want to be her, so, I think I should--"
"--Not leave!" He grinned as he cut her off. She rolled her eyes.

Nakamura listened to them bicker together. He wondered what his sister was doing now. She had grown a lot, since he'd seen her. He would imagine, anyway. It was a hard thing to think about. He did miss his family, from time to time, but if his father had disowned him, who really cared? He had to deal with the reality of his situation. He was supposed to get a parole agent, but there hadn't been one yet. He sighed, as they got to the part about her staying to talk to him.
He couldn't help it, he spoke up. "It would be a supreme kindness for you to stay." His voice had deepened over the time he'd been gone... it sounded almost adult. "It gets very lonely in here." He smiled at the bars of his cell. That's all he could see, after all- thick ice was not translucent, even if he could bend it to make it that way. Probably get him in trouble, and shrimp was for dinner, if they stuck to schedule. He didn't want to miss out. It was the only decent meal they served around there. He reclined against the side of his cell, his hands behind his head to cushion it. As comfortable as you get.

Irking her eyebrow again, Lin peered through the same bars she had previously glanced at. It was the same cell of where she heard the ourburst of laughter.
Her eyes, perhaps shades darker than kyanite stone, skimmed the boy in the cell. He had the typical traits of a Water Tribe citizen--blue eyes, brown hair, tan skin. He appeared somewhat older than she, perhaps around her brother's age. However, off to the side was a green backpack and a sleeping bag.
"Little Linny shouldn't be talking to strangers," Yuu sneered.
Lin scowled at her brother. "Big fat Yuu shouldn't be messing around the property of strangers and getting himself thrown in jail."
Yuu laughed. "Touche!"
Lin rolled her eyes and turned back to the one who spoke to her in the other cell. "Lonely? You have other delinquents to socialize in here with, don't you? Take this idiot over here for example."

Nakamura shrugged, and leaned to his right side, against the bars now so he could more easily see the girl. There wasn't much about her that one would call unique except that she was nowhere near as gentle as other girls he knew around here- and that she had much shorter hair. It wasn't hardly long enough to put into a wolf-tail... as his was. He smiled up at her, remembering that part of Raine that she had in her.
"Well, it isn't so much that it's being lonely, I guess, or that there isn't anyone to talk to," he said. This was truth- he usually just chose not to. "But, I mean, what are you going to talk about? How wonderful the shrimp was? How long you've got left? What you did? And I didn't even DO anything." He chuckled, and then laid his head back and closed his eyes. "It's just nice to see somebody from outside. Because they usually have something to talk about, even if you don't want to- so you end up enjoying it anyway." He then looked back up at her again. "Like that."
She was so like Raine, standing there in that posture- not regal like the girls around here. And her eyes, narrowed at him a bit- nothing like that would ever cross the face of a 'girly' girl. No- this was his kind of girl. He laughed inwardly- he'd not ever have a wife. But maybe a friend? Doubtful. She didn't like him at all. That was obvious.
He shrugged, moving back into the cell. "Sorry to interrupt you two. Listening is enough."

Lin chuckled some. "No, this is actually more interesting than trying to knock some sense into this hard-headed idiot over here."
"Hey!"
"You know it's true," Lin teased. She turned back to him. "There's nothing really interesting going on at the moment. The most recent mishap is perhaps an elderly man shouting at a group of teenage boys down the streets. I suppose this place may or may not serve as proper punishment or discipline, but either way it's keeping this ninny out of my hair."
The girl folded her arms. "Didn't do anything, huh? Then tell me, how does someone end up in here when they claim they're innocent?" She chuckled again. "There's a reason for everything, even if you don't know it."
He seemed like an innocent, but by the way he spoke, there seemed to be more beneath the exterior. "Then again, I don't blame you for seeking a decent conversation. I don't think you could carry on any subject with these people, let alone this knucklehead."
"Oh yeah, call me mean and a jerk, but look who's talking?"
"It's called revenge, brother."

He was going to answer her question, but her brother was bickering with her again. He snickered at him as she showed him up, yet again. He really was an idiot. Nakamura was bored enough to talk to this girl. The guards didn't seem to mind, anyway. He supposed that it was enough that they let him talk to somebody. He stretched, his blue parka revealing just a bit more of his arms, and yawned, his mouth revealing straight, white teeth. Mostly, anyway. Some of them were a bit crooked, and weren't totally white. He then leaned back again, scratching a hand through his long hair. He pulled out the ponytail, waiting for them to finish, running his hands through it.
He looked up at the girl, once she was done berating her brother. She'd asked what he was doing here if he claimed he was innocent. "Well, usually I sleep here. There's not much to do..."
He knew what her question was, so right as she began to speak again, probably to rebuke him, he snickered again. "No, no. I didn't do anything. There was a girl that wanted to leave- so I took her to the earth kingdom. Apparently that's wrong." He heard laughter from down the cells, towards the guard desk. He scowled. Why didn't they come down here to make fun of him? Then he'd have somebody to talk to!
He rolled his eyes, then looked up at her. "You see what I mean by idiots?" He whispered.

An almost mocking smirk curled at the corner of her lips. "So they're making fun of you for your crime? That's a shame."
It was a shame that Lin hoped to avoid at all in the future. Sometimes, she was greatful to have her siblings to learn from, but she still feared the sense of humiliation. If she were to be in this boy's position- stuck behind bars, unable to do anything, be laughed at all day- she would have been driven so mad, that they'd probably have to throw her behind a different set of bars.
Lin reached up and moved her long bangs away from her dark blue eyes and forehead, revealing a better view of her face. At the same time, she had a better look at this kid rather than a choppy visual obscured by several strands of her brown locks.
"You better not be flirting, sis, he's a conv--"
She suddenly moved in one fluid motion. Her knees bent as one foot stepped back, making a wide space between itself and the other foot. Her arms stiffened as her hands swung in a pendulum motion. The ice on the bars of her brother's cell morphed- they covered the gaps and holes in between so he couldn't be seen.
"Hey! That's not nice!"
"You're not a nice person," Lin scoffed.

When she bended his bars shut, Nakamura snickered, then began to laugh loudly. He couldn't help it. It was so Raine-ish. He really wanted to give this girl her own persona, but all he could do was point back to Raine. This girl was so out there, so careless, so FUN, that he couldn't help but think back to Raine.
He smiled up at her. "You remind me of somebody I used to know." He laughed again, falling backwards, and turning away from her for a moment. He wished he could stop, but it was very funny. He brushed tears from his eye, hearing the boy slamming his hands on the ice. "Seriously, what an idiot."
He finally stopped laughing and looked up at Lin. "You're good for my health. Stop by again sometime, okay? And not for that idiot." He chuckled, and leaned back again. He pulled up the hood of his parka, intending to go to sleep. That was practically a cardio workout.

Lin rolled her eyes at the trapped teenager behind the ice. "Yeah, this is what I deal with when he's home, except he gets a little more physical. I'm taking advantage of the fact that there's a barrier between me and him. I know he'll probably get back at me again later once he gets out and finds me, but whatever." She shrugged. "He's no worse than my pain of a sister."
She irked an eyebrow again at asking for her to come again. At this, she shrugged once more. "At least I can have a decent conversation while I'm knocking around my brother."
Finally, Lin took in a breath and held it. She replaced the holes and gaps that she covered. With one circular motion of her arms, the sad face of her brother was seen again. She exhaled slowly and relaxed.
"I'm telling mother," Yuu scoffed.
"I know." Lin let out a sneer before she turned towards the exit. Her softfootsteps echoed down the icy halls of the jail before the slam of a metal door was heard.

Nakamura watched as she left, then closed his eyes. He was going to sleep after that... it was nice to know he had sort of a friend again. He'd not had one in awhile. Not since Raine, anyway. He smiled and slowly began to fall asleep.
So, this was going to be different from now on? Another Change in Life. His life had been chaotic, to be fair, since he ran off with Raine. But he never looked back on it as a mistake; he liked his deed. Raine was free, likely off somewhere flirting with some guy. Having a good time. And that was all that mattered.
The food wasn't so bad. The company wasn't great, but then again, it never really had been. If he was in the Earth Kingdom, he wouldn't have it any better. What would he have done otherwise? Stayed there, with people not his kin? In the mountains? Maybe he liked it there, but it wasn't home. This was home- even if he didn't want it to be. It was where he belonged.
So he'd stay awhile, at least. Until he got tired of it. Then he'd have another Change in Life. That's all that seemed to stay the same, anyway. Water, flowing like a river, took many twists and turns. You were helpless but to fight against it and loose... he let it carry him away, to sleep.
