Coins jingled, strung on thread that smelled like salt water. The fishnet swayed back and forth against the dusty tunic that hung without a shape on the young woman's body. Her arms lifted into the air, fingers interlocked as she stretched and the old, nearly rotten harness she wore creaked and groan as it moved. A breath of great relief was exhaled, her muscles feeling better upon their release and her arms, whose lower limbs were bandaged, fell to her side with a great flourish. The fresh air, scented with the smell of meat stew, washed over her and danced with her hair.
Jialing's eyes smilled. "So Jin.." Her lips curled as she spoke, eyes to the golden dog who trotted at her feet. "..Think we can stay here for a few days? Get some food in our bellies?" The two weren't exactly starving as they sauntered down the path through the village.. but Jialing was not the best shot with an arrow. Her fingertips brushed the string of coins that hung at her side, their few last peices of copper. Food would be welcomed, but she needed new metal arrow tips.. sharpening wood simply was not working. From her heels, Jin whined as he paused on his thin legs to look up at his mistress.

Her hand went to the dog's head, stroking the long fur that covered his ears until her finger wrapped around the hair. Gently, she pulled Jin off to the side with her down into a side street. Jialing, head forever over her shoulder in caution, pressed her back against the stone wall and lowered herself down to the dog's height. Taking in a sharp breath, her serious, brown eyes met Jin's bright eyes. A finger rested across his nose, while her hand held his lower jaw in place. "Jin.. Cause a distraction for me, and I'll get you a treat.. alright?" Lifting a single brow to the dog, she smiled and releasaed him in her confidance that he understood. The dog, whose coat was filled with burrs, turned and trotted out into the sunlight. The young woman stood, and peered around the corner, breath held tightly.
In and out of legs the golden dog moved, a blur to all. His tail waved back and forth, wacking the citizens along their backs and in their gut. The dog, whose shrill barking echo, danced around the people. He would leap, stamping their chests with a muddy paw print. Far too agile, for he was thin and long legged, none could catch him. Finally, having caused enough chaos among the people, the pup lept onto the stalls, walking along the shelfs and knocking down fruits, pots, fans, statues. His tail tangled and untangled in scrolls, windchimes, hanging beads. It was at this, that Jialing dashed out.
Brash and daring, She seemed to dance around the street, weaving in between the people much like her dog. Her skilled hands reached out to grasp fruit and hanging peices of dried ham. Her arms were only half full, if that when a older man caught on. Tall, with a thick neck and broad shoulders. He carried a cleaver above his round, drum like stomach. His bushy eyebrows narrowed at the sight of the girl, who seemingly danced down the street. His grunted cry echoed down the hall, freezing Jialing.
Blasted! She cringed, before turning her head and gazing over her shoulder. Her pale lips curved into a grin and parted only slightly. Whistling in a pitch so high it hurt, Jialing called the golden dog back to her. Jin emerged from the crowd, trotting to her feet and together, they flew. Loosing a few apricots along the way, the duo of theives dashed out of the village, past the few remaining houses and farms and into the dense forest that sat on this side of the village. With her pup guiding her, Jialing broke away from the trail and into the underbush until silence fell. Oh sweet silence... where were all the birds..?
