Krishna held his head high, his heels digging into stirrups on either side of the emu. A proud smile tug on his lips as he continued the march forward, ragged and weary troops behind him. Not too far back from the general, waved the Earth Kingdom banner, and right beside it was the banner of Earthbenders. They flew side by side, representing the unity and dignity of his people.
The twenty or so guards that watched the entrance to the city looked startled to see the vast amount of men coming toward the capital, but hastily bowed and signaled for the gates to be opened when General Krishna rode up to the center.
The general and those others of higher rank strolled in, an impressive forced behind them. Obviously, not all soldiers could enter the city, but they did best to squeeze as many as possible. Ah, how Krishna missed the grand capital city, with its high rock walls, sophisticated markets, some fair ladies here and there..with this, Krishna smoothed back his hair.
Civilians cleared the way, scooting far back as they could against walls to make way for the general and oncoming division. The banners were raised higher, flapping and fluttering high in the wind. An admiral, Admiral Chang Dong, he believed it was, ushered him through the streets with much speed and haste, and Krishna was shown a column of stairs, up to a balcony with a podium on which he was to speak.
He groaned from within his throat. A speech? That was never mentioned, only a victory parade from the last battle. But he should have known better, when a victory was taken, speeches were soon to follow.
Stepping up upon one stair, the next, the next, and soon came to where he was supposed to speak. Feeling faint at the amount at which had gathered to hear him, Krishna soon regained his balance upon spotting a crowd of young women looking up and pointing toward him.
Clearing his throat, and then in a booming voice spoke out.
"Citizens of Bai Seng Sei and others of the Earth Kingdom, I bring you victory! From the Battle of North Da, success comes to us! The Fire Nation gave us a challenge, and met their match. Never again shall they be so foolish as to directly send us a message for a showdown. In time, we will defeat the oncoming Fire Nation, and bring them to their knees! We WILL NOT be consumed by their destruction! In time, they will crumble, and we shall make them pay for every damage and oppression, every last copper piece!"
Krishna stood back while the roar of the people rang in his ears. A handful of soldiers below tried to control them, and then the general turned heel and began making his way down the stairs.
