Siyuki looked at Xia Feng, feeling pain just by looking at the woman. The best thing to do was to get her to a safer place. She couldn't help with Xia Feng's delivery as much as she wished she could.
Siyuki looked around, everyone was looking cautious and somewhat crazed.
She looked around at the unconcious firebenders. They were still out. Hopefully, they'd stay that way, it would work to their advantage.
She caught up to the boy named Ishi, who had already started off.
"I'll go with you." She said to Ishi, "I know these roads well too, and I think I could help."

"I'll stay here then..." Lin said, almost mumbling.
Still confused?
Yeah- Hey!
Gotcha!
Oh, just shut up...
Then why aren't you coming with them?
I don't really know the Earth Kingdom roads very well, so what use am I?
Maybe you aren't useful to any-
Hey! Who's side are you on!?
That depends...
Ugh! Never mind then! Lin thought. Why did she come here in the first place? Listening to voices that come out of nowhere can have it's consequences...

Mesheiko looked on with a grimace pasted upon his lips, his eyes toward Xia Feng. This was it; her baby was coming. So much pain, and it seemed to pain worse than any battle wounds he had received or seen on others. His mind was confused as to which way to go; to stay here with Xia Feng, or to go for help? What's a young man to do? What would a real man do? Wait, a man would stay and help where he's needed most. Right now, I'm needed here., Mesheiko thought deep inside himself, then handing a canteen to Banshee; seeing as no one else was doing it for the poor woman. The emu was quite smart as what to do with it dipping its own beak and canteen into a trickling stream. Specks of water sploshed out of the water container as Banshee lowered it to Mesheiko's hand level.
"I need someone to get blankets, or some kind of cloth. There should be an old coat inside my pack, atop Banshee there. It's thick enough.", Mesheiko commanded in a voice which seemed not of his own. He turned to the elderly doctor, awaiting further instruction. "There's nothing more we can do, young man, for now. If there was a way to get heat out here, it most certainly would be needed, but there's not. We'll have to make do with what we can.", the doctor replied gently. Mesheiko held the canteen in one hand, and another upon the ground for balance as he kneeled. "Need some water?", Mesheiko spoke.

Instantly Midori jumped up and dashed over to Meshieko's pack. She had been tempted to go along with the others, for some of her energy and the ever-growing supply of butterflies in her stomach needed burned up somehow, but she decided to stay. She could probably be of service here and maybe she could bring Xia Feng comfort somehow; the poor woman sure needed it.
Midori eventually cooed Banshee over to her. She stroked him affectionatly before slipping on his back. Her hands found the opening to the pack and soon a warming coat found its way to her. Midori's eyes also wondered to a place where Mesheiko had stored the letter. Her hands almost went to grab it, but the doctor inturrupted her with murmers of "Come on, young lady. Need to make this woman comfortable!"
Reluctantly Midori slid off of Banshee and jogged back over to Xia Feng.

Xia Feng took the water from Mesheiko and greedily sucked it down. It was chilly, so it just came back up again with another wave of pain. Xia Feng screamed again, hopelessness washing over every fiber of her being. She clutched at Mesheiko's arm gently. It was comforting that he was there with her. She was extremely thankful that he had came along when he did... and, of course, everyone else, but Xia Feng felt a strange attachment to Mesheiko over the others. She had no idea what it was: the beginning of a crush, the love of a mother for all children, or just the affinity she had for all people.
Mesheiko confused her. Still a boy, but on the cusp of manhood. He would be a fine young man indeed, very handsome, but Xia Feng had not quite figured out how to view him -- as a boy, or as a man. She was inclinded to see him as a boy, but something was unmistakably mature about him; a thing that all men had but women could not explain. It was very attractive.
What was she thinking?! Here she was, giving birth and her husband off in the war.... What was she doing, looking at another man in such a manner?
But, over the past few months, Xia Feng had been lonely. Truly and honestly, she hadn't ever loved Jing, but she was so afraid to admit that to herself for fear of doing something crazy.
And now, as she had her husband's baby, she felt like disobeying ever adult she knew and leaving Jing for someone else.
As Xia Feng felt the unmistakable puch of the baby, she knew that in the next few seconds, she would be a mother. But what kind of mother would she be, an obedant one or one who followed her heart?

Midori reached Xia Feng, Mesheiko, and the doctor. Quickly she handed the coat to Mesheiko and passed a expression of mixed feelings over to Xia Feng. She had a feeling the time was soon. Very soon.
The doctor pushed Midori out of the way, while rushing over to the end of Xia Feng. He was fully ready of what was about to approach. The soon-to-be-mother was still in agony, and Midori dearly wanted to stop it. However, she knew that soon the baby would be out and relief would sweep over Xia Feng.
The baby. Oh Jeeze. Midori squeezed her hands so tight together that her knuckles were turning white. Her stomach was doing flips as well. She turned to Mesheiko with an expression of mixed worry and excitment.
"Wow." She squeeked. "Here we go."

Mesheiko wasn't sure what to do as Midori squeaked out her words. It was as if his entire body was frozen, rooted to the spot. His mind made no desicions as Xia Feng grimaced in terrible pain. A peck on the back from Banshee quickly awoke Mesheiko to his senses; he took hold of the saddle, and pulled himself up. Mesheiko put one hand to the side of his eyes, and after that catching a nod from the doctor.
There was nothing more he could do, and Mesheiko felt he should stay out of the way. He didn't feel too partial to watching the baby come out, either, or see Xia Feng in even more(if that was possible) pain.
As a hand drifted around Banshee's back in boredom, fingers reached into the pouch. Mesheiko pulled out the letter addressed to Xia Feng, seeing on the front(now that he was not in so much haste) it read To: Xia Feng, wife of Lieutenant Jing, 24th division
To Xia Feng,
The army, Jing's division, and his fellow men are sorry to report that Jing died a hero's death during a battle that took place only a few days ago. He took a fire blast full in the chest; any possesions found will immediately be shipped to your home.
With all regrets, Totaka, scribe
Mesheiko's mind registered this..so Xia Feng had been married. He wondered if she knew her husband, and most likely the father of this almost-born child, was dead. But, she couldn't of, since this letter hasn't even got to her yet, and communication in the army isn't too good., Mesheiko thought inside him. His eyes traveled back to Xia Feng for only a brief moment, a rush of sympathy for the woman and the child. The child would never know its father.

Three hours of pain resulted an a beautiful, healthy baby boy. As the doctor cleaned the baby and wrapped it up, tears mositened Xia Feng's eyes. It was here, and it looked healthy. Smiling, the doctor handed the baby to Xia Feng and she took him greatfully. He cried with such energy, such life. Maternal instincts took over and Xia rocked the baby, singing soft and low. Soon he was asleep, nuzzled into her bosom.
"Well, what will you name it?" asked the doctor, who was cleaning his hands.
Xia Feng was thoughtful for a moment. She and Jing had never talked about it. Thinking hard, she once remembered that her mother's grandfather's name was Tarak. She would use that.
"Tarak. It was my grandfather's."
"Good name," the doctor said and patted Xia Feng's arm. "You did well, child." Xia smiled at him, and then looked for her new compainions. Mesheiko was no where to be found (and Xia's heart sank at this) but Midori was still near. She looked at the younger girl, trying to read her reaction.

Lin just stood there, doing nothing but having a small look at the small child held in the mother's arms.
Still confused?
Can you stop asking that question? She thought. The voices were beginning to get on her nerve ever since they arrived in her dream back at the North Pole.
Lin wanted to smile at the sight of the infant, like she did when her baby sister was born. But instead had a dull expression on her face, as if she were sad.

Midori's eyes sparkled. Baby Tarak was so small, but healthy. That was good. The whole experiance she had encountered was difficult to put into words, but it had not been a bad experiance. Not at all.
Midori's smiled a delighted, yet gentle smile at the new creation. She released her now red hands and looked up to Xia Feng.
"He's so beautiful." Midori commented. It was true. Tarak seemed to remind her of everything wonderful in the world. He re-newed her hope in this time of war. He seemed to give her strength. Tarak seemed like a little brother to her. She cared for him deeply for some reason. Maybe because she had witnessed his birth.
Midori glanced over to the edge of the clearing. She could just spot Mesheiko far off. What was he doing over there when there was a new baby over here? Telling Xia Feng she'd be right back, Midori rushed over to the emu and his owner.
"Hey, Mesheiko! What are you doing ov-" She stopped at the sight of the parchment stuck in his hand. She read it over his shoulder in three seconds. She jumped onto Banshee next to him. "Oh Mesheiko! What do we tell her?"

Mesheiko couldn't answer that. Here he was, letter clutched in his fingers, and there was Xia Feng, with her baby. It seemed wrong to just break this to her on such a happy occasion. The birth of her son.
He dismounted slowly off of Banshee, one foot descending upon the ground at a time. His feet felt full of lead as he took tortoise steps toward Xia Feng, and the baby Tarak. Tarak looked a healthy towards Mesheiko, he would surely grow up strong. Mesheiko's face was grave as his hand moved closer to the ground. He felt horrible for having to pass such news on, and in this time. But it had to be done.
"He is wonderful. Congratulations.", Mesheiko said, crouching down, one kneed on the ground. His tone took on a drastic change, his tone like his face. "I-I think you might want to read this. I can take Tarak, if need be.", Mesheiko tried to speak louder, but found he couldn't. Mesheiko reached his hand down and set the letter in Xia Feng's lap. What would this perhaps do for him? He had been present at Tarak's birth; would Xia Feng expect out of him? She had no husband, this child had no father. Normally, a husband was supposed to make income...what would happen to them?

Shocked, Xia Feng picked up the letter from her lap. He son cooed warmly, looking up with big blue eyes -- eyes that she knew would turn to a doe brown like his father's -- at the new friend that had come.
As Xia Feng read the words on the parchement, all of her happiness disappeared. Her husband was dead. Everything around her, which had been vibrant and full of life, turned dull and grey. The words of the letter repeated over and over in her head.
And yet, she found that she could not cry. She was simply... numb. Tarak squirmed, trying to get a better look at Mesheiko. Wordlessly, she handed the baby over to him, correcting the postition of his arms and hands to accomidate the tiny child.
What was she to do? She had nowhere to go, no husband to see -- just Tarak. That was all she had left in the world.

Midori slid off Banshee, and gave him a comforting pat on the neck. She turned her head over to Xia Feng, where Mesheiko had taken the letter and shown it to her. At first, Midori was unsure if she should join them or not. However, she decided that Xia Feng might need another to comfort her and Midori still hadn't gotten her fill of the baby.
On her way there, Midori half jogged, half walked. She didn't know whether to approach respectfully or with a light quickness to show that Xia's Feng was worthy of her time. She ended up with a speedy walk, so caught up in her thoughts about the news, Xia Feng, and the baby, she almost ran into Mesheiko who was holding the baby.
"Oh! Sorry." Midori said with a wince as she took an abrupt stop behind him. She had still managed to push him a little bit. Quickly, she stepped up to become level with Mesheiko.
Midori took a glance at Xia Feng, excepting mobs of tears and cries of misery. However, all she saw was Xia Feng sitting there, with almost no expression on her face. This confused her a bit. Perhaps she was only on the verge of tears? Midori turned back to the two boys, unable to think of anything to say to Xia Feng but;
"C...can I see the baby?"

Xia Feng heard Midori, but the words didn't seem to penetrats her brain. She nodded slowly, and stood on her wobbly legs, watching the three. Her attention then shifted to Lin, who seemed t be hanging back. Xia Feng hadn't even noticed here again until now, and felt a tinge of gult. But it didn't even compare to the gult she felt about Jing.
She motioned for Lin to come over to see Tarak. If she had seen the whole thing without flinching -- well, Xia Feng had fainted her first time. She just hopped that the girl wasn't scared for life.
Xia Feng looked at everyone else around. Ishi and Siyuki was no where to be seen, and the Firebenders who had attacked earlier seemed to have... disappeared. Xia Feng wondered if they had fought them off while she had been in labor.
Turning back to her baby, she stepped over to Mesheiko and put a gentle hand on his arm, watching over the three.

Lin blinked at first confused again. Then she understood what Xia Feng was telling her. She slowly walked over to them and looked at Tarak. Instinctively, Lin tilted her head to have a better view, also out of curiosity.
Strange... why weren't you even flinching when you saw Tarak being born? The voices said.
I have funny reactions toward certain things, in fact, I didn't even flinch when I saw my baby sister being born. Not even a small twitch... She thought.
Maybe that's why you go by unnoticed.
I'm too quiet, that's all. Lin didn't feel like arguing with the voices again. Those voices always seem to catch into arguing with her, and Lin was coming to the point where she wanted to get rid of them.
If you don't want us in your head anymore, then start making actual good decisions.
Like what? And when did I make the bad ones?
Remember when you pushed your brother and then he slid on ice, causing you to get grounded for the next four weeks? then when you lost your temper yoiu turned him into a popsicle and then was nearly caught by Master Pakku? And then there was that time he cut off 3 inches of your hair-
Don't remind me about that incident! Lin screamed in her head. Yes, her brother did cut off 3 inches of her hair, for payback from the ice-slipping incident. She nearly drowned him for that and was punished with cutting off 4 more inches of her hair. That was only 3 years ago, so it grew back eventually. Lin had a lot of issues with her older brother, he always seemed to be trying to set off her temper.
Trying to get that off of her mind, she made a small smile at Tarak and had a small gleam in her eye.
