Misui wasn't too taken by the city, any wonder was wasted on her, perhaps she'd lived in the splendid city too long to realize it's majesty. She'd long been desensitized by it's girth and majesty. Still she did take some enjoyment in watching Ryota take it all in. He seemed oddly content but once she notices that she was in fact starring at him her eyes went to the space ahead of her. For some reason being rude seemed like something she ought not do. For all her heart and charisma in the face of an argument, she wisely knew when to use it. There was no sense in arguing with those who are foolish.
"mn?" Came the short reply from Misui as her eyes flickered back over to the man at her side, but her complacent look soon spread into a smile, the white of her teeth only just slipping through the part in her lips. he was a very interesting man, simple but in some ways he seemed to be deep and thoughtful, someone she wanted to get to know. " We've done it before and we can do it again, you can't destroy water, it simply becomes something else."

"You know, I guess you're right." Ryota took a second to contemplate that truth, mulling over her words. The Water Tribe denizens were more like their innate element than he realized, and seeing their malleability and strength among them only drove the point home. The keen abilities of the small troupe of southern warriors against Fire Navy invaders proved the fact just as much as the combined efforts of northern soldiers. Now that he knew his home would also be well-protected, it spurned a great deal of confidence in the warrior. Ryota knew the Fire Nation's next attempt against them would be doomed from the start, if they were even foolish enough to try.
But what about the rest of the world...? The sister tribes may have been blessed by the moon and ocean, but the Earth Kingdom and its people were sure to undergo hardships.
"We are a strong people...I know we'll stay strong in the future. Our children," he said, but quickly realized what may have been implied. Stuttering a bit, mouth pulling to an uneasy scowl for a second, he quickly corrected himself. "Er, I mean our children," pointing between himself and Misui repeatedly, he did little to repair his prior statement. Blushing, he continued; "No...I mean the children of future generations..."
It was then that he paused, forgetting what he meant to say.

She simply nodded, letting him mull over her own words for a while, she knew it to be true and still she found it easy to say the water tribes will never die. It was a comfort that in such a world she'd never have to worry about her life being up rooted and tossed to the firenation. She didn't have any idea of the intentions of fire nation occupation in the water tribes, no doubt it wouldn't be good. She'd heard stories of unfortunate woman, slain husbands, young girls sating dark and devilish desires. It made her shiver but their side had won, the scars of battle were quickly vanishing. There was no need to fret anymore, just rebuild and move on.
Her eyes trailed over the warrior at her side then and a singular eyebrow raised. He was speaking about the tribe but the line ' our children' make her step back and take a moment for herself. What was he getting at, she didn't know if giggling or hitting him would be the correct response, but as he stumbled forward in his misinterpreted speech she found herself smiling kindly at him. Something about that struck a tone in her heart, the nervous anxiousness, he was trying so hard. She wasn't much for sentiment but... she found herself giggling lightly.
" Our children indeed" She added and gave him a coy look before looking away with a slight blush, she wouldn't wound his pride, he was too nice. Her hands did find themselves behind her back and her eyes searched the darkened sky quietly, It was a hint that he was interested in her, at least she took it as one, she was honored, and a little flustered, her expression didn't hint as the tumbles her stomach was under going. Her hand slipped from her back to her side, half wanting to take his, all she did through was gently brush against his, it seemed she was too timid, the simple action could be construed as an accident. " Future generations will look back on the siege as a great moment in our history...." Her eyes found their way back to Ryota's gentle eyes though. " Our children would be proud."

With that said and done, Ryota only smiled at the young woman. There were no other necessary additions to the conversation, and the awkwardness had all but vanished from sight. Allowing the conversation to cut off smoothly, he continued walking down the street, hoping Misui would follow close by his side. The subject, however, had only changed slightly. "You know, I wouldn't mind settling down one day. Maybe after the war. Falling in love," in a heartbeat, he smiled uneasily and bowed his head a bit, eyes closed and blush glowing on his cheeks. "Er...then getting married and starting a family. I think that'd be just great."
Running his fingers through his wavy tresses, he aimed his eyes upward, gazing at the few stars that made themselves known. Now would come a very bold statement, as Ryota threw caution to the wind. "How about you? A-are you promised to anyone here in the north?" he said, looking at her and wearing that same endearing smile. He knew she wasn't tied down to any man, but wanted all the same to hear it from Misui herself.

As much as she enjoyed watching the mans expressions she couldn't help but be bothered by the butterflies in her stomach. It caused he to loose his eye contact in favor of looking to the sky wistfully, dark as it was a sliver of the moon gave it some light, here on earth lanterns took care of the dark. Still it wasn't completely well lit, many things go on in a city like this at night. Loved ones reunited briefly, only for a few days, perhaps weeks. Not knowing when next their dear ones would be pulled away. Things went on in the dark of night so sacred and secret to those who preformed them. It was human nature to want and to need in that way...
The healer studied the sky idly and she found herself nodding only slightly in agreement. Not returning her gaze to the stocky man she let out a small breath clearing her mind before she spoke, perhaps she really was an old woman at heart, she often felt aged mentally at least." I'm not promised to anyone, my father gave me and my sister the choice, to be betrothed or to wait. I chose to wait, theres someone out there for me, just like theres someone out there for you."

It was a relief hearing it from Misui, since he now knew she was comfortable admitting such things. She wasn't trying to hide who she was, not admitting utter lies for her own vanity. Ryota admired her honesty, even if she wound up not liking him. Her candor really was endearing.
Slowing down a bit, he made his way over to a short railing along the walkway, which reached near the same level as his waist. With Misui sure to stay near him and not rudely walk away, he gazed off at the darkening sky on the horizon.
"What if," he said softly, almost inaudible. He was quite nervous about what he should say next, but knew exactly what it would be. Ryota knew he had been that way all night, mustering the courage to say rather bold things, but this time was a bit different. With a smile, eyes gazing upon the girl, his gentle voice spoke. "What if that 'someone' was right next to you?"

She paused next to him watching the sky along with him, feeling more woman than girl. Much more grown up then the bubbly giggling teens that filled the healing huts. Much more mature than the older healers who pined for their youth or for their husbands to shape up. Things were as they were, Misui accepted it and did not wish for another moment. It was in her nature to be content with the things she could not change and challenge those she could.
A persons heart was not something she could change. Yes she had loved once, she was eleven or twelve, her heart was set on a man but he did not like her, he did not speak to her. There wasn't anything wrong with her or him, it just wasn't meant to be. When one could lament over things lost they would have served their time better by appreciating what is still here.
" Well if he is right next to me then I thank the spirits for delivering him to me. " Her eyes met his gaze with a seriousness to them, even though a small smile pulled at her lips she found it to be no laughing matter. It was refreshing to be able to carry on a conversation in which she didn't have to tone herself down or remain silent. As her gaze broke returning to the sky she shook her head mildly. " Then I would chide them for taking so long." She added a coy smile to her lips brushing the stray hairs from her face. Girls were generally wed at sixteen, she had no problem in waiting but even her long trusted patience could eventually wear thin.

Her response only made Ryota more nervous, to the point where he broke eye contact with her and looked down beyond the frozen rail. There was too much on his mind at that moment for him to notice the vast rippling waters, shining with gold on the horizon from the fading sunlight. It even occured to him how futile the endeavor would be, to fall in love with a northern girl when he had to return to Chameleon Bay in mere days. Following his heart would be a dangerous path, though it wouldn't be the first time he ventured that way.
Pursing his lips, eyes closing tightly for what seemed like forever, Ryota stuck to his first instinct as he did so many times before. He hadn't gone wrong before, but the slim chance of failure was crowded out by optimism. Sheer optimism marinaded with overconfidence. While his heart pulsed rapidly, he took the fool's road and grabbed Misui gently by the hand. Looking her in the eye, he smiled. "Good thing the spirits are watching."

Misui looked into Ryota's eyes as he did into her's, as exciting as a whirl wind romance could be she wasn't sure what to make of the boy. The girls in the healing huts would gossip for weeks it they'd seen her out with the boy. Women in her own family had a reputation for being harder to tame then wild arctic sloths. And yet the man didn't seem like he wanted to tame her, everything she said he took with a grain of salt and a polite smile. He was nice from what she'd seen, reliable since she knew him to be a soldier. In her opinion the man was hansom, she never much liked the bulky framed chiseled jaw types, they were full of themselves. " I suppose so..."
There was just something off with the moment, was it the lighting? Perhaps it was her desire for something more perminant, he would be leaving soon, exactly how soon she didn't know. Still she allowed her hands to be warmed by his, she had nothing against him. Why was she unsure of this? Momentarily her brows furrowed looking at the man with a puzzled look but it broke all too soon. He seemed to be really trying, she could respect that, it wasn't as if he was a stranger she'd just met today, they'd seen each other a bit in the healing huts. Throwing caution to the wind she leaned forward placing a small kiss on his cheek as a reward for his bravery a smile sticking to her lips. " I just hope they're not watching too closely."

The moment her lips pressed against his cheek was blissful, or at least enough to make him blush considerably. Even against his caramel brown skin, one could see a faint red glow. He was flattered she returned his sentiment more than just keeping her hand in his, but he could only wonder what she was thinking at that time. Since it was difficult for Ryota to perceive anyone's thoughts, Misui fit perfectly into this category. Slowly, he let go of her hand.
He considered that Misui may be ashamed, even though she didn't seem like the type who tried greatly to impress people. It was obvious a stranger to the city like himself would earn a few stares and whispers. Grasping her hand again, he resumed the walk that was their original intention to take. Ryota knew he liked Misui for plenty of reasons, but that only lead him to not weigh the consequences of his next action.
"Misui," he said, hearing it almost like a song in his mind. "I won't be around these parts forever, and," with closed eyes, he could feel the steady drum of his heart as had happened so many times that night. "I've never met a girl like you. I know we haven't known each other for long, but..." Trying his best not to avert his gaze, he looked straight in her eye with sincerity in his features. "I really like you."

" And I'm rather fond of you" She kindly offered, she didn't know him well enough to call it love or to make any rash decisions, it was pitiable that he wasn't going to be around for all that long, he was from the South Pole, he'd have to go back there soon enough, she had her family to think of. They wouldn't be able to function without her.....would they? Well her sisters children were growing up, soon enough they'd be able to take a role in the managing of the resteraunt. Her nephew was bright enough, he could wait tables in the least, they could always hire some help... No it was out of the question.
Simply because he liked her didn't mean they'd be married and shun the rest of the world, they had obligations to think of. Lives they left behind, perhaps Ryota already had a child, a wife, a fiancee, she didn't know any of that vital information. She didn't have much reason to pry into his life and history.
Her usually chilled hands felt comfortable and warm in his grip so she made no move to pull herself away. Instead she leaned herself onto his shoulder quietly content with their positions. It wasn't improper for her to be doing this, she was just being friendly. Nothing to get worked up over, telling herself that allowed her to be calm in the situation. Still the thought of him leaving weighed on her mind, she only met him, she didn't want him to leave. " Perhaps we should get to know one another while your still in town, I think I would enjoy that"

It seemed his feelings were requited. Not only a relief, but flattering. Wonderful to know that someone enjoyed his presence as much as he did theirs. As she lay her head on his shoulder, he restrained every fiber of his being in order not to in his tracks. Misui now proved she was sincere about her feelings as they slowly walked the empty walkway, hand-in-hand.
"Do you think they miss you right now?" Ryota said, unintentionally leading the conversation down an awkward street. After she asked to spend more time together, it was the first thing that came to his mind. Not because he didn't want to be with her - quite the opposite - but he for some reason felt like her family may be pining for her return. Whether or not that was even the case, he realized his fumble.
Rubbing the back of his neck, he nodded a bit. "Yes, I would too. I'm free tomorrow night...how about then?"

" Well my father told me it was alright, I imagine my sister is upset but she'll get over it" Misui teased lightly, honestly she felt obligated to make it back quickly yet she didn't feel like it would be too unreasonable to just skip out on it all together. Besides, things got heated there when people were fighting. Judging by the way her brother in law stormed out it was likely there would be some screaming and general tension. Better to let it pass before getting herself into an argument.
Giving Ryota's hand a small squeeze she allowed her eyes to trail up to meet his, she tried not to take to long least she look someplace, well, slightly inappropriate. Still his eyes were nice enough to look at, she had no trouble watching them, she hadn't really thought much about love, about being with someone, when it happened it happened but if it was happening now would she know it? Was this it or was she just looking for company.
" Tomorrow night is fine." Misui smiled a bit, even if it was just attention she wanted Ryota seemed willing enough to give it to her, there was nothing wrong with that. The back of her mind still couldn't get over how well their hands fit together. " Perhaps I could give you a tour of the city."

His response was a meek nod to Misui's answer, but it was soon replaced by a pleased smile when she agreed to meet the following night. Happy enough was he to leap with joy, but for sanity's sake he was able to easily restrain himself. Contented, he started to lead Misui back to her restaurant - even though he soon realized he'd forgotten its location. Knowing such, he slowed down noticeably and allowed Misui to take the lead. Their hands, though, were still fondly in each other's grasp.
"Thanks. That would be nice," Ryota said calmly, looking off before them. Each step was slow and careful on the path of ice so as not to slip and fall. It almost brought him to laughter his first step onto Shai City's turf, where he fell almost as soon as his sole hit the walkway. But things had changed so much since then, even though it hadn't even been half a week. Almost a world of difference over a span of several days.

Misui was content to keep the pace guiding the pair back too the resteraunt since it seemed to be the way he was attempting to go, she couldn't help but take the long way though. She didn't want to end the night just yet, it was nice, well for the North Pole anyway. It was enjoyable to be out like this, usually she lost herself in the paces of her schedule, the siege threw her off but as soon as it ended she'd slipt back into the dull and dreary life she'd had before. To break away from the usual now and then, well, it made life more livable. Taking a chance on a man who could be shipped off any day to continue fighting for her nation, it was rather thrilling.
The healer sent the boy a smile, an open and honest one with no sarcastic tone or underlying humor. It was rare for her, especially when it wasn't forced. Still when they finally made it back in front of the resteraunt the smile faded a bit, this meant that they'd go their own ways for the night. Not something she wanted but something that would have to come anyway. Blushing a touch she tried to clear her thoughts, she was feeling too much like a giddy little girl, it wasn't something she valued. Still she looked at Ryota hopefully. " Tomorrow?"
