Fudo and the Red Wind were weary from many weeks of roaming the wilderness of the Earth Kingdom. For little under a month they had been dispatched to roam from Zhy to the mountainous regions south of Tachi Dai. Their job was to stop any travelers for questioning and neutralize any Earth or Water kingdom soldiers.
Their spirits were low and moods were irritable as they had come across little more than a few traveling gypsies and three wounded earth nation soldiers returning to Tachi Dai. Surely their expertise and deadly accuracy could have been used to better effect else where.
The Red Wind were thankful to receive a hawk informing that they may be needed else where in due time, however they were to return to their Fire Nation homes to receive further orders. They all agreed it was about time they received some well earned rest.
After a few more days of traveling Fudo and the remaining of his men were eager to return to civilization the Red Wind were only minutes away from Sun Sei. A great, relieved smile cracked onto Fudo’s face as the walls of the tourist city breached his cold, home-sick eyes.
As the Red Wind approached the gates of Sun Sei, Fudo could see the look of happiness that dashed the faces of the guards face, despite their efforts to hide it. Fudo, similarly shared the same feelings of joy. One of the guards was a close friend of Fudo’s from his home village up in the mountains. He quickly dismounted Kaminari and embraced the guard in his arms. “It’s good to see you old friend” The guard whispered, slapping Fudo’s back. They parted “I’m heading up to the village in the morning, drop by at Zei’s inn” Fudo mounted again and started to urge forward.
Fudo and the few men that lived in Sun Sei trotted along the cobble path. They smiled at the passing civilians. It was good to be home. The usual smells, sounds and sights. The bustling crowds, unique merchandise. It was all the things Fudo missed. It was a great feeling to finally discard the monotonous memories of the pitiful Earth Kingdom.
It took little more than ten minutes to enter the boarders of the tourism district where most of the inns and taverns resided. They traveled swiftly up the cobbled streets of the market, a few waves and greetings from idle passers, the Red Wind were quite the legend in Sun Sei. They were proud to have such a fine cavalry sprout from their city.
In no time they were at a respectable tea house. A beautiful garden invited all comers, bright maple tree’s swishing in the courtyard. The inn owner was a tall elegant man and greeted Fudo happily. He was graceful, his face kind and wise. His rich red robes flowed loosely around him, a tall red topknot residing on the top of this head, the rest of his hair billowing down past his soldiers. "Thank Sozin" He said with a toothy smile "I haven’t been graced by such a sight in a long time " He bowed to the cavalry as the antelope were taken to stables by a few employees.
"It’s good to have you back Fudo" The man smiled and bowed to the warriors. Fudo placed a bag full of circular gold coins into the mans hand. "General Bao said he is pleased by your reports, the spies you have in the Earth Kingdom are of much use" The landlord seemed quite overjoyed by this “As long as you stay here everything for you shall be free” The man bellowed whirling off to the kitchen.
The inn was quite large and magnificent. Two ornate doors stood as great gates to the humbly cozy inside. Uncommon glass windows lay behind side drawing shutters, quite a luxury. This was probably due to the high amount of wealth he received for being a spy. Large paintings marked the walls, quite a refreshment from the bellowing lands between Zhy and Tachi Dai. Dotted around were large round tables with multicoloured, wooden based cushions. Through a silk veil was the kitchen which produced wonderful aromas that filled the whole building.
The soldiers went up to their quarters to change from their heavy armour. The landlord gave Fudo the lords room as he old man new of Fudo’s grandfather, a governor and nobleman in the Fire Nation. Fudo pulled open the luxurious panel doors, closing them as he drifted into his room. Incense sticks released a deep odor which was almost as rich as the silk bedding. He slid off his red mask to reveal as sharp, handsome face. He untied the red rope that held his helmet in place. It slipped slowly from his head, revealing a topknot bound secured with a fire pin, long hair fell to his shoulders which had just the slightest wave to it. In a matter of minutes he had undone all the complicated clips hat held his armour together. He placed it on a stand to reveal a simple leather undergarment, two red leather sleeves joined at the shoulder, running above his chest and just around his neck leaving the whole of his well built, tanned chest and abs bare. From just past his wrists was a trip of material that extended to between his index and middle finger.
To free his legs from the cozy yet advancing hot temperature Fudo took off his kurijime-no-o and haidate leaving rich crimson trousers tucked into his shin guards. He hung an dark orange loincloth over his trousers after taking off his kakozuri. Finally with a sense of freedom he slid from his room and gently made his way downstairs to his companions. He smiled and took a seat.
The landlord bawled in with a wide smile as he covered the tables with strong alcoholic teas, bread and fresh veal and noodle stews. In no time the Red Wind and the landlord were merry and laughing.
