Ninavask stepped off the Refugee transports. He had heard rumors that Ba Sing Se had been taken over.
"Couldn't have picked a better time to leave."
He muttered to himself as he set off down the wooden gang plank. He stopped at the bottom and continued out to the exit. The ex-Earth Kingdom noble caught the glimpse of a Long line before a ticket booth. If only they had heard the rumors yet.
"Oh well."
Ninavask muttered again to himself as he headed toward the main exit. He felt so out of place among all these Refugees. They where fighting over who could get to Ba Sing Se. He was walking away willingly. It was such a strange coincidence. A bad coincidence. As he reached the exit he watched the Earth Bender guards bring up the door. He walked through and it slammed shut behind him. He continued down the long tunnel. Waiting for the slight ray of bright light as his eyes adjusted to the dim, crystal atrophied light.
Finally he had to shield his eyes as he came around a bend and looked into the bright day. The caves mouth came out inside of a small canyon. He stepped out, his right hand on the Dao at his side, and looked around. :"No fire nation... good.": He thought and started toward the opposite wall. He had enough supplies to reach one of the nearby Villages but he would have to be careful. If it was Fire Nation occupied he'd be in a lot of trouble.
"I may be able to take on a single soldier but a platoon of them, let alone fire benders, would be a huge problem."
He muttered as he looked around. He reached a thin path and started up. The Path went up about 20 meters then curved to another path that went the same length. This repeated twice more until it reached the grass and trees above. It took about 10 minutes to climb all the way and when he did Ninavask was very very grateful for a rest by a small little stream that snaked around to the other side of the Canyon where a small lake of water was.
Ninavask heard the snaps of twigs nearby and shot up, hand on his Dao's hilt. He watched the white fur coat of a bearded cat run from the tree then watched what it was being chased by, a large black dog like animal. Ninavask hadn't seen an animal like it but that didn't matter much. The Barking was loud and would cover up any approaching enemies. That meant he had to move just in case. Ninavask picked up his pack quickly then walked farther away from the small canyon
