Quing Yuan walked through the busy streets of Shai City, her pointed stick leaving little holes in the snow--or ice where she walked. Finely tuned ears heard the sounds of other people walking in front of her, behind her, and on the sides of her. The crunching sound of snow under someone's boots was unmistakable. The girl was focusing so much on trying to figure out where people were that she didn't know that she was about to run into someone. It was a man by the tone of his voice. "Watch where your going kid!" he snarled angrily. Quing Yuan didn't recognize the voice, so she didn't reply. "M' sorry sir." the girl mumbled. "Very sorry. Didn't see you." and with that she started to walk off.
The man grabbed her shoulder. "What was that?" he said in a dangerous tone. "Im very sorry sir. I didn't see you." Quing replied in a much louder tone. "Look at your elders when your speaking to them!" the man ordered. "I.....I can't." the girl said softly. Only then did he notice the silvery blueness of her eyes. She was blind. The man let go of her shoulder, and Quing Yuan stumbled off, embarrassed...

Ayame skipped through the roads, kicking up the snow and listening to people complaining.
"Ayame!"
"Young lady!"
And other calls, calls she'd heard all her life. They fell on deaf ears, now, and all she felt was apathy. They didn't mind that life was always the same, but they did mind when she tried to spice things up. People here confused her.
She looked around the corner of the healing house, and there she saw a girl, being released by an older man (from a hard grip, it looked like). She was young, younger than herself at least, and looked somewhat tired.
Ayame decided to go over to her.
"Hey!" she yelled, walking up to the girl before she lost her, "You OK?"

Blundering around through the mass of other people, Quing Yuan tried to find a way out. She wanted to get away. "Hey!" a voice yelled. The twelve year old quickly turned, gripping the pointed stick tightly. She was unsure of who said it and who it was directed to. "You OK?" the voice asked. Quing didn't reply at first. A few minutes later, the girl spoke up. "Who are you talking to?" she said, staring blankly ahead with silver-blue eyes.

She tilted her head a little.
"Well, I'm talking to you!" Ayame said, looking straight into the eyes of the girl. It was weird, she was looking at her, but, well, not looking at her. It was though she was looking through her.
The girl had a set of beautiful, but somewhat haunting silver-blue eyes. Ayame had never seen eyes like that.
Then something struck her; the look this girl was giving her, this was the same kind of look her grandfather gave her after he lost his sight.
"Um, not to be rude, but can you, er, see me?" she asked, in a bit of a whisper.

Maylin made her way down the sides of canals, carrying a decorative jug of water. She stumbled a few times from the weight of the jiggling water, but she knew not to fall. If she dropped the jug, she would be in a great trouble with her mother. She bit her soft lip in worry, she didn't want to be in trouble.
Maylin looked at the two girls speaking to each other. She stopped, realising that she could not pass with them there. She studied their faces, looking for something familiar. When she saw none, she looked for new features. A girl with a pointed stick and silver eyes, and another who was speaking to her. Maylin hoped they would move soon, she needed to get the water into the healing huts where her mother waited.
Maylin laid the jug down and approached the two girls. "Excuse me, but I can't get through." she said to the two girls. "I'm sorry if I'm interrupting anything." Maylin smiled to them, letting loose her cheeriness.

"Well, I'm talking to you!" Ayame said. "Oh." replied Quing Yuan in a slightly disheartened tone. After a small pause, the girl then asked again, "Um, not to be rude, but can you, er, see me?" in a slight whisper. Quing shook her head. "No." she whispered back. "Excuse me, but I can't get through. I'm sorry if I'm interrupting anything." a new strange voice said. Quing stepped back and sideways. "Just fine." she answered.

"Thank you." Maylin said to the girl with the stick. Since she had moved over, there was just enough space to squeeze through. She wrapped her arms around the jug and cautiously slipped through. She took a good look at the girl who had moved away, and noticed her eyes.
Maylin couldn't help but comment, "You have really pretty eyes." She did not realise that her eyes were blind, she had never met a blind person before. She then noticed that the eyes were not focusing on anything, or any one. They were staring ahead blankly, as if... they couldn't see anything.
Then it came to her. This girl was blind! She didn't say anything, she didn't want to offend. She nearly dropped the jug when she started walking again. She accidentally nudged the blind girl with her elbow as she walked past.

"No problem." Ayame said, moving so that the girl could go through. She then addressed the blind girl again.
"Sorry if I insulted you or anything. I just, well, I couldn't.....I'm Ayame by the way." she said, trying to get off the subject. She then shook the girl's hand, but not as hard as she usually would to people she meets.
It was strange, a girl, she couldn't be passed 12 or 13, with no sight, walking be herself. That was dangerous.
"I don't want to sound rude or anything like that, but it seems a little off that you don't have anyone around to help you out. Are you lost? 'Cause I've lived here all my life, and I know a lot of people. Maybe I can help you out."

Maylin shuffled a little, the weight of the water was overwhelming after a while. Suddenly, she tripped on a stiff bump of snow and fell to the ground. The jug fell out of her arms and broke into two jagged pieces. The water spilled out and into the canal.
"Oh no!" Maylin cried, picking herself up quickly. She held the two pieces of the jug, more afraid than sad. If her mother found out that she broke the jug, trouble would be imminent.
Maylin pushed the two pieces back together, hoping that it would magically fix itself. When that didn't happen, she had a shiver run down her spine. Her mother would be so furious!

Ayame looked over at the girl who had just dropped the jug. She looked troubled.
" 'Scuse me a second." Ayame said to the blind girl, and she went over the the smaller girl. She always had to help someone, when it was convenient, that is.
"Are you OK?" she asked, knowing what the answer was. It was just a standard question. She looked at the jug, it looked pretty badly broken.
"Looks like your jug's busted," she said, "Looks a little beyond repair. Do you need a jug? I've got some at my house."
Then she realized what she said, and introduced herself
"I'm Ayame. What do they call you?"

"I'm Maylin..." she said, not borthering to turn around to face Ayame. She was too afraid of what her mother would think when she returned with a broken jug. "I can't just go home with a whole different jug. My mom is going to be so mad..." she whined into the air.

"Really? What do they look like?" Quing Yuan asked cheerily, her mouth pulling up into a forced smile. She'd probably get the picture now. "Sorry if I insulted you or anything. I just, well, I couldn't.....I'm Ayame by the way." the first girl said. "Im Quing Yuan." the girl replied softly. "It's no insult. Most people don't notice it."
"I don't want to sound rude or anything like that, but it seems a little off that you don't have anyone around to help you out. Are you lost? 'Cause I've lived here all my life, and I know a lot of people. Maybe I can help you out." Ayame said. "Im just fine. Im not lost. My family is....gone. I've lived here all my life as well, and I know my way around." Quing responded. She whipped around at the crashing sound of a pot. "I can't just go home with a whole different jug. My mom is going to be so mad..." the second girl whined.
Quing knelt down. "I think I know how I can fix the jar. Could you hand me the pieces?" she asked.

Maylin looked at Quing Yuan in disbeleif, but nodded. She took the two jagged peices into her hands and handed them to Quing Yuan. "Are you sure you can fix them?" she asked, sounding desperate. She needed it fixed, and if it wasn't fixed in time, she'd be in trouble.

She nodded. Taking off a blue mitten, Quing felt along the jagged edges of the pot and fitted them together. The girl then held them together with one hand while grabbing a handful of snow with the other. Quing Yuan put it in the bottom of the jar and started to bend it into ice which covered the inside of the jar. "It should work now." she said.

Maylin stared at the jug in disbeleif. Why hadn't she thought of that? She touched the crack of the jar; it was practically invisible. "Oh, thank you! Thank you!" Maylin exclaimed to Quing.
