Tei stood over the stove, absent-mindedly stiring a thin soup. She thought of the days events as she watched the bronish liquid swirl in the pot. Her mind spun with possibilities, what if Nyoko had been the one hurt? what if she had died? A single tear rolled down her cheek.
"You worry to much, Teijo, be thankful she is well." Tei whipped around to see her grandfather sitting at the table. She quickly wiped away her tear and put on a brave smile.
"I don't know what you mean, Papa."
"Nyoko is well, you should be thankful." She smiled at his granddaughter and opened a thick book. "But you already know that." He smiled and began to read silently to himself. Tei just looked at him for a little while before going back to her stew.
Moments later Nyoko came trotting down the hall to the kitchen. She was carrying a bundle of something and had her parka all on. "Where do you think your going?" Tei asked not looking away from her stew.
"To the healing house." She said simply reaching for the door handle.
"Nyoko dinner will be ready soon. Besides what do you need there?"
"I'm bringing something for the boys that got hurt today." Tei would have stopped her, but she was out the door before she could say anything more.
"Those boys must have had a real impact on Nyoko." Her grandfather said laughing and going back to his reading.
