Name:
Zuko, Son of Fire Lord Ozai and Fire Lady Ursa. Prince of the Fire Nation and Heir to the Throne. Known Alias’s include the Fire Nation Fugitive; The Blue Spirit, and Lee for when he was under the disguise of a Earth Kingdom Refugee, keeping away from the court of the Fire Nation and that of his Father while being considered a failure to the point where he was to be killed on sight.
Age:
17
Gender:
Male
Group:
Fire Nation Royal Family
Nation:
Fire Nation
Bender?:
Fire Bender
Physical Appearance:
Standing at five foot and six inches, with a waist line setting at twenty inches round, with a muscular form. Though the muscles are defined, he is not overly bulky, making his appearance seem a bit more stream lined than that of a walking bolder. He has a bad scar on the left side of his face and forehead, a scar goes from his eye over the face and back over his left ear, muscles around said eye damaged. He can still see, however, the left eye is narrowed at all times. Keeping his hair in the standard top knot fashion. Holding squared shoulders, and though he is his fathers son, he holds more in common of looks with his mother, their gentle eyes and the frame of face of his mother, a narrow and soft face. And though he has the capacity for holding a beard, he prefers the face well and cleaned shaved.
Clothing/Armour:
Once long ago, onboard his ship, while he hunted the avatar, he had usually been seen in that of a military uniform. The dark pants, the pointed boots, the black and red armour for that of the traditional Soldier of the Fire Nation military, refusing to stand out to the point of being a bright beacon to attention around him, despite his rank and position. The most outstanding bit about his uniform is the long over coat. A gift that was given to him by his mother just a week before her leaving. Starting at the top of the shoulders, and the neck line, it is a bright reddish orange colour, like that of a setting sun in the distance. And then as it goes down towards the end of the robe, it goes darker in color to a baron, almost a dark brown. When he received it from his mother it reached his feet, at present day, it reaches down just past his waist line, However the greatest bit of information with that specific jacket, is that he has had it altered to fit his ever growing frame. Expensive. By any means. However should it be required of him to attend social gatherings, important matters of state, some sort of formal engagement, he keeps with him a simple Hanfu. That traditional white undershirt, kept, with a bright red shirt with gold embroidery. With a baron red sleeveless over coat, and pointed black travelers boots.
For the time as he lived as a refugee, The one known as Lee, standing tall, He dressed in common rags that simply hung loose and yet were still comfortable against his skin. The pants were common brown or light grey, that extended just to the mid shin, where he had a set of traveling boots. However the one thing that was constant upon his form, was that of his mothers coat, and though people tried to attack him to take it and it’s obvious wealth. But no. When travelling, though there have been a few rough cuts and some rather quick tailoring, it still means as much to him as his own right arm.
As the Blue Spirit, he has leather armour (having access with it through the military vessel that he has under his command.) which he places under that of a set of dark navy blue shirt, pants, and a set of dark boots made more for mountain climbing. However around his waist, there is a long silk red sash. A gift. From that of his Uncle, upon one of his younger birthdays.
Weapons:
Should it become necessary for him to use, As a common man, as the Prince or even that of the Blue Spirit, he carries upon his person, a set of dual blades. With in the sheath, a seemingly singular weapon. However when drawn they become two single edged blades, going out with a curved two feet out. And though there are no extreme eccentricities it is evident by the way they are held, honed, balanced that they were well crafted. The hand itself is a simple design, with nothing more than a simple gold guard. The grip was brown leather, wrapped around the handle. At the end of the handle, there are a series of green tassels and a certain carving beneath the tassels, with a sort of green tint against the marks gold frame, which indicates that it was not forged with in the Fire Nation but that of the Earth Kingdom. A gift presented to him later, by his Uncle.
Personality:
He considers himself a realist. Due to his past experience, he is always simply hoping for the best, however expecting the worst from every situation. Though at times there are moments where he does smile. Moments of tranquility and revelation that he comes by. Things that his mother said to him at one point, the praise of Uncle, the time spent with Mai before he was banished. And now, after months of hating his own past, and attempting to act proper, he has been given another chance at peace which makes him feel rather calm, almost tranquil to the point where he may be a nomad, not really focusing on the destination but more so on the journey. However though he may seem calm, inside, there is a wave of emotion and triggers towards it. The various men of the cities treating the peasants little more than passing entertainment. of course he is one to respond to such acts, and to teach the offenders a lesson. Azula and any mention of her being a hero is enough for him to pick a fight. However, should the topic of Ursa, Zuko's mother be raised up, it could have two different reactions, depending on the situation. One, it's during a fight, in which case he would murder the person. Or two, he would simply sit and speak about what she was like, with the few people that he can actually trust. Aside from those things, he is feircely loyal to those that he considers friend and family. Willing to go as far as laying his life on the line in order to ensure that it is done and done correctly. and though he does have a sense of humor to enjoy jokes, he is far beyond lousy at making them, which was why he left it all to Uncle and for him to enjoy the act. However, over the time on board sea, and traveling the worlds, and aside from his Uncle needing him to play the Sungi Horn for Music Night, He's taken up the flute. More so a token of his mothers that she gave him when he was extremely young. A treasure that rarely leaves his side, except when about to go into battle.
Background:
The Fire Nation Nobility once a proud and ever peaceful family that were beloved by all their subjects and well respected by those that were the kingdoms around them. Until Fire Lord Azulon came forth and plotted and schemed for a world unified under one banner, during the Time of Avatar Roku. The Previous Avatar Incarnation before Aang. And So began the War. The War that ravaged the world. Supposedly during the Time of Fire Lord Azulon, The next avatar had been born with in the Air Nomads. That is what brought the Fire Lords wrath upon the Air Dwellers. The Fire Nation struck with out warning and with out Mercy.
Nearly a hundred years past since the start of the great war, with no sign of it ending with in the near future. Iroh, Then Prince of the Fire Nation and celebrated war hero, declared his wedding and produced a successful blood line to be followed in, in that of his Son, Lu-Tan. However, his Younger brother Ozai did not take to this well, out of Jealousy or perhaps spite, He turned to the many noble daughters at court. Out of all of them. A great noble woman, from that of one of the more profitable families with in the Fire Nation. For Ursa and her family, it was a smart move, extremely smart, to endorse their daughter, Ursa to the affections of the Prince Ozai. And being the charming person that he was, and ensuring that the young lady Ursa then had everything that she wanted, quickly fell in love. Two years later, Ursa Granddaughter to the that of the Late Avatar Roku and noble lady Kimiko of the southern provinces, wed into the Royal Family, to that of Prince Ozai, just after having graduated the Royal Fire Academy. And though the times of Ozai and Ursa were happy times, behind the scenes, Ozai Schemed to bring about his own reign to the Fire Nation Throne. And at the time there was nothing that he could do. It had been out of his hands.
Three years later, Ozai and Ursa brought forth a child. Zuko, with in the royal estates upon Ember Island. A labour that was said to have lasted for more than eighteen hours. Two years later, A second child came forth. The Young Princess Azula. While Zuko showed a flare for valuing all forms of life and preferred to spend time with his mother, Ursa. Azula preferred the company of her father, and showed a excellence in the martial arts. And slowly over time, Ozai’s plans began to form. However being the Military genius that the Uncle Iroh was, it was also anticipated that Iroh would eventually leave for the war, and ensure that their victory over the earth kingdoms was Absolute. Ozai began to plot and form connections with some of the lords and commanders of the arm, and showed much more focus on the war efforts to take the city kingdom of Ba Sing Sae.
During the battle for Ba Sing Sae, the Beloved Prince Lutan, Iroh’s only son, died. It was rumoured that Lu Tan’s death had been staged. That there was some sort of assassination plot towards it, underneath the nose of General Iroh himself. When word had been brought that Lu tan was dead, Ozai confronted his own father, to attempt to have him to renounce Iroh’s claim to the throne, and place himself as the Heir Apparent to take the Crown to control the Fire Nation. Outraged by Ozai’s blatant disrespect for his Elder Brother, and the Heir to the Throne of the Fire Nation, Ozai’s father ordered that Ozai’s eldest Son, Zuko, to be killed. Killed by Ozai’s own hand. Ursa, having learned what Ozai had planned to do, proposed a plan to Ozai in order to save her child’s life. She moved forwards with the plan the very night she had suggested it to Ozai. She murdered the Fire Lord. As penance for her transgressions. She had been exiled from the place that she called home and away from the family that she loved. And Ozai got what he wanted, Ozai became the Fire Lord, and redoubled the fronts and pushed for more conquered land.
Two years passed by for the Royal Family, and though Ozai kept his word on allowing Zuko to live, the eldest and heir to the throne was neglected in favour for the second child, Azula, however left Zuko’s place as Heir to the Throne, if as a move to allow Zuko to Impress him, Or as Incentive for Azula to continue to impress him. But it was around Zuko’s fourteenth birthday, that Iroh, General of the Armies to Conquer the Earth Kingdom, returned. Some thought in disgrace, while some thought that he returned only to care for the last remaining members of his family. One way or another, Ozai had at first deemed him a threat, and had watched him carefully. But when Zuko’s uncle showed no signs of taking it, Ozai’s suspicion dropped, and had eventually allowed Iroh to join the War Meetings.
But what had amazed or annoyed Ozai to no end, was Iroh’s sudden fascination with Zuko. One could say that the interest that the elderly man picked up a unrefined unwanted piece of metal, and brought forth the aged wisdom and began to forge Zuko into something else. Iroh personally took over Zuko’s Fire Bending and martial arts training. A connection was made between the two family members. It was rare for Zuko or Iroh to go anywhere without each other there. Enjoying the conversation, and for Iroh, advising upon matters of both the heart and the political circles. However for the lessons that he had been teaching Zuko, it did not however, include humility, manners and a proper place with in the presence of the Fire Lord. Perhaps that was what brought the Fire Lords True wrath upon Both of them. Just after a year later after Iroh’s return, there was a great war meeting for the planning invasion of one of the lower known Earth Kingdom Provinces under the rule of that of King Bumi. At the needless sacrificing of a fresh platoon of troops as a diversion to allow the main strike force to move around undetected, Zuko protested against the Generals Plan.
In what was thought that he would be a Agni Kai against the General who accepted, it did not turn to be what Zuko had thought. For the insult of speaking out of turn at the Meeting and at the Fire Lords Table no doubt, in front of the fighting force of the nobles, Ozai had been angered by his eldest child’s behaviour, and for the insult thought to be given at the table, Ozai had shown up as Zuko’s direct opponent in the Agni Kai. Sufficed to say, despite Zuko’s pleading on the best behalf of the Fire Nation, and begging for forgiveness did not sway what Ozai did. With a powerful heat covered blow to the face, Zuko was branded for life, and sentenced to Exile. However at Iroh’s behest to Ozai, Zuko had been given a task of great importance to the Fire Nation in order to redeem himself. However what Ozai chose was something that even Iroh could not believe could be accomplished. To Find The Avatar. To Find The Last Air bender, And to Return him to the Fire Nation. Only then would Zuko’s dishonour be forgiven and would Zuko be able to take up his place as the Crowned Prince of the Fire Nation.
The Journey began after Zuko had been healed enough to move on his own, and they set forth from the Fire Nation with a Ship and crew that were Loyal to Iroh, much to the Fire Lords displeasure, and headed east, Towards the Eastern Air Temple. Zuko’s fire and ambition did not allow him to slow down, and even when they were at sea, with little for him to do other than to train with Uncle, his skills improved under the master benders careful scrutiny. Controlling the basics was a sound start, though Zuko had been impatient to move on, he had proved that he could do them. However what affected his progress was his anger and desire towards the Fire Nation and the Avatar, his conflicting feelings towards his own family, and the sense of shame and supposed dishonour that his actions brought forth.
Two years passed, for Zuko, who marched against every Air Temple, to various other temples around the world, The old Air Temples, the Fire Temples, the Earth Temples. And then all the upon the course to that of the Southern Water Tribe, the greatest indication that the Avatar had returned was a great beam of light that erupted from the ground and shot into the morning sky. What Zuko believed had turned out to be correct. The Return of the Avatar had come forth. When they arrived with in the Southern Pole, Zuko had forced the Avatar’s hand, into trading the lives of the village for that of his imprisonment. However, after a battle of the Avatar’s escape, Zuko had been forced to take his ship into Fire Nation Controlled lands for repairs. With the Closest Port being under that of one of his Fathers Closest Advisors, and one that approved of the Princes Banishment. Commander Zhao of the northern fleet. Sufficed to say, there were insults exchanged, accusations made, and Zhao found out about the Avatar’s return from that of the Crew of Zuko’s vessel.
To settle this, there was the battle of Agni Kai. Hand to hand combat with that turned out to be a event that all at the base came to see. And one that would not be forgotten. Zuko’s training had been apparent, and the improvement under that of Former General Iroh of the Fire Nation Northern armies had been noted to the point of even where the battle had been heard about at the Royal Court. It was a fight that had ended with Zuko being in victory, and Zhao not only in disgrace, but even after the fight, Zhao had tried to come out on top, and had attempted to strike from behind, to kill him. Had it not been for Iroh’s involvement in stopping the dishonourable act against his nephew. Sufficed to say, both Iroh and Zuko made a enemy that day.
Months passed by as the Avatar came and went through the world, With Zuko and Iroh usually hot upon their trails. From Kyoshi Island, the Sisters of the Spirits Temple. From the safety of the Freedom that the Avatar so enjoyed, to the imprisonment of the Avatar in Zhao’s greatest fortress. It was during the raid of Zhao’s Fortress did Zuko dawn the mask of the Blue Spirit, and raided the fortress by the cloak of night, and with stealthy attacks through out the Fortresses, to limit the counter measures. Moves that proved to be in vain, however he did ensure that that the Avatar had been freed, despite the Yu Yan Archers knocking him out and loosening his mask, showing the Avatar who exactly owed him his life.
Life quickly went back to normal, after the two parted. Zuko returned to his ship to that of a rather worried Iroh, who had the nerve to be more like a mother hen to the Prince than that of a concerned Uncle. Had it not been for the lack of energy, he may have actually smiled and brushed off the older man’s concerns. But at that time, Zuko didn’t want it, but he knew he needed it. After Reports had come that there had been a sighting of the Avatar going North, Zhao had mobilized a fleet with his new command rank as Admiral. Their Target was the Northern Water Tribe, where Zhao believed that the Avatar would be searching out for a master in the water bending cycle.
Zhao had come to the Prince taking with him the crew, and to invite Iroh to join his campaign to the Northern Water Tribe. Iroh had outright refused, but not before the damage had been done. At the notice of two old but extremely well done and well made dual blades, Zhao had come to the confirm that the Prince had become more than just a banished Prince, but that of a Traitor as well. After that meeting, Zhao had hired Pirates to assassinate the Prince. However Zuko had realised what had been happening, and had managed a narrow escape. Iroh had found Zuko floating with in the water, much to his thanks. The plan was quickly brought to light that Zuko would stow away on Zhao’s command ship. However what was not planned was that Iroh had then accepted Zhao’s offer to be a aid to the fleet that was attacking the Northern Water Tribe.
The Journey was long and hard, and Zuko had had to ensure that no one saw him and yet never questioned him. He had taken the form of a Fire Nation Elite Fire Bender, with the fire bending helmet and mask. It was a three week journey to the Northern Pole, from the launching point, however it was simply staying a step ahead of the men on duty and Trust that Iroh could distract Zhao to getting to the point of being suspicious about him. When the fleet arrived at the Northern Pole, bombardment had commenced immediately. And under that and the cloak of darkness, did Zuko take a small metal canoe and infiltrated the large city through the artic waters that the city was indeed built upon.
The Invasion had ended in failure, The Avatar had called upon the Moon and Ocean Spirits to come to the Water Tribes defence, after the failed attempt of assassination against the Moon Spirit on Zhao’s part, Zuko and Iroh fled upon a piece of drift wood and was eventually returned to that of Fire Nation Controlled Lands for a time to rest, restock and be ready to go. Unfortunately. The Failure at the North Pole had reached the Fire Nation Royal Court, and spies with in the Northern Water Tribe sent information that Zuko had not only shown up at the Invasion, but had helped in the prevention of the Water Tribes Demise, and had ultimately killed Zhao in the process. It had embarrassed Ozai that his eldest son had embarrassed him by siding with the enemy and stopping the invasion to the point of where he dispatched his greatest assassin.
Azula.
The first conflict was shortly after the wreckage that Iroh and Zuko had been recovered and had taken to a small beach resort and relief aid station for ship wrecked victims. However her original Pretence for seeking out Iroh and Zuko for the fact that she told them that their father wished for them to return, and that Family was suddenly very important to him. It had been a lie, and it had been found out. A battle had ensued, however in that, Iroh and Zuko, they had had to flee from all of the Fire Nation controlled area’s. Their only option was one that could seem even less likely of survival than that of the Fire Nation, should they have been discovered. Flee to that of the Earth Kingdom Controlled Lands. They first entered into the controlled lands of Omashu, and fed off the good nature of others, despite having nothing, but a sword, the clothes on their back, and a large Chicken Horse that Iroh had promptly named Drum Sticks after they stole it from a caring healer and their family.
The Trip through the Earth Kingdom had turned out to be far more perilous than what they had originally thought. Having come across an elite scout team, known as the Rough Rhinos. After their initial encounter with the Fire Nation Military Scout Team, Iroh had taken charge, taking them out towards the dessert, towards one place in particular where many did not think that it was of any place of import. The Misty Palms Oasis. A place that had a large a ice berg in the middle of the dessert. It was not a long or hard trip, but along the way there, Zuko re-dawned the mask of the Blue Spirit. And along the way, the Blue Spirit was responsible for crimes against Earth Kingdom. Food, water, supplies, money, clothes. It was Rumoured that there was very little that did not Interest the Blue Spirit in the regards for the necessities of life.
And thus the rumours flew around that there was a strange masked man fleeing the Fire Nation and attacking the Earth Kingdom Citizens, making him a wanted man with in both nations. And many were upon the look out, but it seemed as though the Blue Spirit though heading to the desert came and went with the wind. But the most questionable thing that Zuko came to find about his uncle was that the old man had far more secrets than what Iroh released to him. Knowingly or not. When they arrived at the small Dessert Resort, The first thing that Iroh did, was take them both to that of the local drinking establishment. And of course the young man, though often did Iroh try to instruct him on it, did not see what Iroh, and his opponent had done. What the two old men had done was initiate a age old custom and greeting between that of two members of a ancient Society, known as the ‘Order of the White Lotus.’
After the strange meeting between the elderly men had, strangely enough, had produced results, and out of it, Iroh brought tickets, passes and new names. And from that point, they bound for the city Kingdom of Ba Sing Si. Though Unfortunately, even that plan proved to be doomed. Shortly after their arrival, he had attained a job as a tea maker with his Uncle at a small and unwanted tea shop. In the place that they thought they were safe and would find some small measure of peace, a young freedom fighter, known as Jet, suspected them as Fire Benders. And attacked them. A battle ensued, where Zuko had to show an impressive amount of skill in the swordsman arts.
After that event, rumour got out that his Uncles Tea quickly became that of legends where the people of the upper and middle rings came to enjoy it, until, much to Zuko and Iroh’s pleasure, had gotten a visitor, a politician that offered Iroh his own Tea shop in the middle ring, and a new apartment. Despite the good news though, Zuko had found a way to ensure that that turned out to be far harder than what Iroh had thought. Complicating the matters of the Avatars Capture with that of the Life of his new Exile and now Life within the City itself.
Under the guise of the Blue Spirit, he captured and Questioned a member of the Dai Li, the secret service agents of the Earth Kingdom, Zuko had gained the information needed to know why the Avatar was there. That his Bison, Appa, had been stolen, and the gentlemen had been so profoundly generous as to actually provide the information to where Appa had been housed. And in that, Zuko had taken off. It wasn’t until nightfall that he arrived at the base, but that had been the point of when Iroh had suspected that Zuko had been up to something at that point in time and come nightfall, had found the man that Zuko had tied up and left with in one of the broom closets in the lower levels, and had gained what the man had told Zuko, and then Released him.
A most noble act, and at that point in time, very foolish mistake, because it alerted Long Fei about someone looking for the Bison. While Zuko went down the various corridors, marking where he had been discreetly like his uncle had taught him as not to get lost when needing to find the way out, he eventually came to the point of where he found Appa. The plan had been to get Appa and use him as Leverage against the Avatar. However. As Zuko contemplated on how that was to be accomplished, Iroh, had used Zuko’s own mapping technique against him and had followed him to the open door, and to Appa’s Cage. And there Zuko and performed his first great act on the road to salvation. He released Appa, from his captivity under ground and sent him up and into the sky. And it was when Appa took off and into the world that Zuko suddenly took ill.
After Zuko Recovered, they went to their new apartment, and their new life. And Zuko, for the for the first time in years, finally had gained some small measure of peace with in himself. However that peace from the conflict wasn’t to be. Little did he know Azula and her two friends had ambushed the Kyoshi Warriors, known to him as friends of the Avatar and his great Journey. However with the shop that the family now worked at, Zuko did not have time to deliberate on the policies of the King, or the world, or even creating them for a time. He was in all senses, free from his obligations as a Noble Born Prince and was able to live a life of complete contentment. It wasn’t until they were invited to serve tea to the king, did he ever think to come forth, and fight once again.
Azula, under the disguise as a friend to the king, had befriended the traitor, Long Fei, and had initiated a coup against the king and his generals. The movement was swift, precise and accurate. However the only piece of the puzzle that she couldn’t claim as her own was that of the Avatar. He had allies, people that she couldn’t fight and win against. Which meant that she needed to seek out friends other than that of the Dai Li. She had sought out Zuko, under the guise as serving tea for the king, the invitation that had once again force him to fight. After a time of confliction, Azula spoke with the promise of going home, in honour, if he helped to claim the Avatar’s life. Though Iroh had advised against it.
It was at that point, where the battle ensued, though as Zuko fought along side of Azula, his confliction with in the action grew, to the point where he could barely stand it. Though had it not been for Iroh’s interference, he may have gone through with the act of killing the Avatar. No, when he faced off against Iroh, and he watched as the old man faced off against him. Zuko did the one thing that every warrior was not supposed to do. He set down his fists. He would not fight. He would not side and fight against his Uncle. And thus, after the battle had been drawn to a close with the Avatars Retreat, Iroh and Zuko both took their leave of the City Kingdom of Ba Sing Sae, and returned to the life of being roaming people, and returning to the dessert.
Sample RP:
Zuko had had enough of traveling for the day, and had simply decided to make camp, with asking Uncle of course. While the old man was currently trying to brew up something that had been likely to kill them, Zuko had been looking out to the pond, with a easy going fishing pole and line, waiting. If it had been one thing that had improved upon the many travels around the world, his foraging skills had improved significantly. But with fishing, it gave him time to relax and think while looking up into the forests canopy. And to contemplate on the recent events. He had been branded a traitor, more than three times in his life. By members of his own family, and yet, looking back on them, he honestly could not say that he did not agree with what he did. Though at the time it did come with consequences. The Fire Nation rules more than three quarters of the world now, and Ozai showed no signs of stopping. The Water Nation were strong and adaptable. This he knew from witnessing their prowess in battle at the North Pole. But against the power that Ozai could now muster against the remaining nations, he would not need five minutes. However his one eye narrowed slightly, He knew that his uncle was no one to fool in terms of strategy and combat, despite his funny appearance. It was one thing to see his uncle fight, it was a totally different one to actually experience it. What Would Uncle Do? That was the thought that had been coursing through his mind.
