I am interested in playing a Smuggler type character from the Fire Nation, but I am stuck on what the Earth Kingdom could want from the Fire Nation, but not get access to.
And I am toying with the Idea of it being Steel Weapons, so if anyone could tell me how much of the Coal in the Earth Kingdom has been taken by The Fire Nation, I would be indebted.

Not sure of smuggler entirely. If by sea then you probably should explain this that surrounds the FN that he always would have to pass through. I guess some things he could attempt to smuggle on a small scale would be: steel grade weapons, blasting jelly and fugitives. Transporting coal? I think that would be more along the lines of a black marketeer's work. In that case he'd probably just stay in the FN dominated part of the EK. Maybe with a small gang of armed employees that deal in things like coal, wood, drugs, weapons, blasting jelly, etc. Likely stealing and/or buying off FN authorities, transporting them, then selling it to EK people at high prices. Or maybe he procures things from the EK and sells them to the FN. Or maybe he tries to supply both sides with something. Everyone likes drugs and booze, and a profit can be had when it's illegal.

How about illegal narcotics and rare dyes and gems from the Igni Islands? >D They fetch a high price in the Fire Nation and could likely be sold even higher in the Earth Kingdom where there's no incoming supply at all. He'd just have to make the really long trip each time by heading around the bigger ocean between the back sids of the two nations.

Well, I like the Idea of smugling Steel Weaponry, but the reason I was asking about Coal was depending on how rare it is to get ahold of in the Earth Kingdom, one would expect a High Mark Up on the Steel Weaponry.
And I am seriously considering going for the Narcotics. It just feels right to smuggle Opium of all things.

Well, Igni narcotics would likely be mushroom-based, or maybe even come from animal secretions like frogs. You could have fun with that if you want to come up with a street name for the stuff. And if you want any details on how the Ignis do business then feel free to ask.
One other comment I'd make, though, is that the Earth Kingdom seems to have steel weapons already. There's no saying how vast a difference there is in quaity between the two nations, but technology in the Avaverse seems to have remained fairly stagnant since the onset of steel weaponry. Even if firebenders can make complicated metalworks easier with the use of their bending, EK smiths have also probably had milennia to perfect their own methods.

Details would make my life alot easier.
And as to the Steel Weaponry, I understand that they have it, but if there is a shortage of coal, it would be at an incredibly Highmark up, allowing someone who can get it on the cheap to sell it at rock bottom prices, and make a heavy profit.

I wouldn't think coal would be that rare. More like the EK has it in abundance and the FN consumes a lot of it. So much that prisoners likely double as coal miners (episode where we first meet Haru) and disobedient FN children in the home islands are sent to the coal mines.

Alright, so odds are Steel Weapons are more trouble than they are worth to smuggle. Time to smuggle Booze and Drugs!

Given the amount of coal-powered ships we see on the Fire Nation - I'm going to assume they have plently of it. Their islands are very tropical with lots of jungle-type plants. Those are the BEST kind of plants for making fossil fuels like coal, oil, etc. etc. And all you need is plant-life, heat, pressure and time. The Fire Nation has plently of heat, and pressure from the volcanoes in additon to plant-life. All they need is time then so they probably have plently of coal.
Now the Earth Kingdom's supply may be smaller, however the Earth Kingdom has more land - thus more opportunity for there to be supply. So I'd say the coal/fossil fuel supply is even, but the Fire Nation has the advantage in their ability to make Fire.. hence their 'superior' technology.
Gonna agree and go with the illegal substances. Again, Fire Nation has tropics.. the tropics produce a LOT of fun stuff.
