*rubs temples at the use of 'r' for 'are' and 'u' for 'you'*
Chamir said nothing about being able to RP in multiple threads at once. What he said is that you can play - With or without other canons. You DO NOT need to have all the canons to play. You want to play Katara? Go right ahead. You do not need Aang or Sokka. Katara can be independent. Maybe she left the boys for a day, or something. Toph can do her own thing. Our last Toph hadn't meant the Gaang Yet but was in Ba Seng Sei on her own. Toph does not need Aang, Sokka or Katara to be played. The Earth King does not need a Long Feng to be played. Etc. etc.
As for playing in multiple time-places.. such as Season 1.. then being able to play Season 3 .. well that just causes a bunch of confusion. I know from experience running a storyline where you did not have to play a linear story and the whole thing dissolved into an angry mob because Players A and B were playing their Characters' Futures.. but then Players C and D came along, killed a Major NPC character that A and B were relying on.. and that totally ruined the 'Future' line that A and B had.
What if You're playing both Season 1 and Season 3. But then something MAJOR happens to your season 1 Story that would affect how your characters act, behave, and remember in the Season 3. Well you would have a conflict there.
Like a Storybook - Unless it's all planned out (which with Feng Shui it's not because we do NOT have to follow the story. Aang can be killed by Azula's Lightning as far as we care. Suki can die in the Fire Nation Prison. Sokka could never love again after Yue.) then you can not play both past and future events at the same time. It causes problems and confusion.
We're simply considering a reboot to help the new people out. That doesn't mean Toph can't be played until the Aang Gang meets her. She can played, She can be running away from Home, leading a rebel squad of Earth Benders against the Fire Nation if she wants. We are not tied to what happened in the show. Same with all the others.

I guess I see what you're saying. But lets say we have a post about fishing or something and its going along fine for a few days...and then one member just disappears and you decide you want to make another thread slightly further ahead in the plot out of boredom. lol
I dunno, I'd almost like to see an escape from the main story plot all together. Maybe Zuko is the fire lord and Azula is trying to escape from some metal facility. That sounds like a really good start of a plot right there. Katara visits to get information out of her, Azula manages to escape and tries to organize an assassination attempt on her dear king of a brother.

@hibiki - lol, thanks? :D;;
@katara - me personally, i'd rather play FS with it's plot focusing on the events of the show. i've always liked the option we have here of kinda sticking to canon but being able to put our own little creative spin on what exactly happens ;D if we get far enough in the plot where zuko is firelord (or firelady azula! firelady ty lee! who knows~), we can see where the site goes, but until then i think the current plot is bien.

That's great Ikky and allowing for multiple threads would let you dip into the canon and post-book three worlds alike. Both worlds.

Katara, if a thread slows down because of someone leaving you skip them, continue with the others or close the thread.
That's been something that has been allowed since day one. You find some way to finish the thread and that includes just closing the thread and making up an ending to it. We are not going to allow multiple threads, nor will we allow you to jump around a time-line so much as to play the beginning of book1 and then post book3. You have no clue what will happen in between those events that can change them.
You don't promise someone cake at the end of a trial only to go "Whoops,we never made the cake." You don't play the end of a War without knowing how the War ends and since Feng Shui does not have to follow the show (i.e. Fire Lord Ozai could still win. Katara could become a Fire Lord Supporters. Toph could die in the Library. Sokka could become a hippie. Etc. Etc.) we can not allow people to jump around through time and space.
Now if we decide to re-set Feng Shui and start with a Post-Book3 story, we would have to decide if we want to use the Canon Ending or make up an Ending. If we decide to go back to the very beginning of book 1, there would be a lot more freedom (I.E. Toph never has to meet up with the gAang, Zuko does not have to become the blue spirit), but you still could not jump around from Book 1 to Book 3, to Pre-Book1 and then to Book 2 like you seem to want to do. Time does not work that way and even in a RPG, you can not write the ending to a story without somehow knowing what's going to happen. Even J.K. Rowling, who knew what the ending roughly of Harry Potter was going to be, had to write the story and make sure it led to that.
But she's just one woman. She's not working with other people to coordinate plot-lines and characters. If Feng Shui even gets remotely back to where it was in number of members, that means at least 100 different minds trying to coordinate to make an ending that someone decided they wanted (I.E. Someone writing a thread where Ba Seng Sei was wiped out or under seige for example).
In RPGs that don't necessarily have a plot (Your basic highschool RPG.. your basic Royal Court RPG... Your basic heres-a-world-go-play-without-a-central-plot RPG) you can do that time skipping. It's easy because you have a bunch of smaller RPs going on. Since we have an all-world encompassing plot (the war) we have to move in regard to that main line. You can ahead of it a little bit. But not 10 years. Not even a year. And that's why Feng Shui has always been more about people's original characters and not their canons: So the timeline and the show doesn't dominate everything. You've been here long enough to understand that, Katara. However, even though I say "the time line and the show doesn't dominate everything" we still have to let time pass, especially for the canons.
You can close a thread. You can leave a thread. You can go to a mod and say "Hey, so and so isn't posting. We're gonna leave this thread, close it." and you can go make a new thread and get on your posting business. You are NOT trapped in a thread just because someone isn't posting. You can leave. You either just pretend it never happened, make up a ending (and so Sokka ended up getting slapped in the face by the fish he was trying to catch. The end of that thread.) and just say "hey guys. Let's leave so and so behind and go start a thread and we'll NPC that character if we need to."
Now, would it better suit the newcomers (welcome by the way) if we went back to a certain point in the Avatar Plot? Would you like us to remain in our post season-2 plot, with the Aang Gang looking through the Earth Kingdom for an Earth Bending Master with Azula and Zuko on their tails (as well as our little Fail-Rebellion that we had going on with some customs) or would you like to jump back to a point or even jump forward to a point (And this does not mean multi-time threads)?

i think our best bet is to just do a plot rollback and start from the beginning/near the beginning of book one. in my opinion, having the plot stall right where it has now is due in part to inactive members playing important canon characters, but also because now that new people are joining, they're just kind of jumping blind into threads without any real direction or course. on that same note, i definitely don't think skipping ahead to book 3 is a good idea--BAD!, if we're gonna play out book 3, we might as well go all out and include books 1&2, too. ehhh idk if this makes sense, i'm all kinds of tired right now ~_~

I agree Ikeru. A rollback to season 1 would be the best. It provides new members a chance to be apart of Feng Shui. It erases the plots that the former members had going on. It gives us a chance to start over and it doesn't force anyone to jump blindly into the game. And again, Feng Shui does not have to follow the plot. Especially since we don't have all the canons: for example, The gAang doesn't have to meet the Kyoshi Warriors for example because we don't have any players. They still can if they want to, but the responsibility of NPCing the warriors falls to them.
We only really have two major plots going right now.
1. The Ukaleq-Nokose plot which is so small that I don't think Chamir and I would have to completely erase. We could actually continue to play that out regardless of a rollback.
2. The Rebellion Plot. This one is a little more tricky because it's Me, Hibiki, Teiú and Setsuko right now. We've made progress in that and I enjoyed our destruction of Tachi Dai. It would hurt us to do a rollback. But I know I'm willing to do a rollback, and Hibiki is willing to do a rollback.
Right now the only thing keeping me from doing a rollback is that I want the opinions of the existing and new members. I want a majority support before we do that. I support it. Hibiki supports it. Ikeru, you support it. Katara supports a reverse of jumping to book 3. Let's get some more votes!
Would a rollback (that's a good term, Ikeru) to Book 1 provide everyone the greatest chance to place themselves ideally in the path for some gameplay? Would it gives those who are applying for canon rolls some familiar ground in which to start off? Is this something you the players want?
Until then, I promised Hibiki I'd get Jialing back into RP.. so I have to go read Teiú's Rescue Mission of Win and break out my inner snark.

Unfortunately undecided. At the moment at least.
I'm remotely contented enough to remain where we are at the moment. As messy as it is, we've worked hard enough to make it to this spot. And aside from the local colour of our Season 3, it's not too starkly different from Canon Season 3.
And yet I'm just a willing to work with everyone if there is a rollback to Book 1. It may leave me out of commission for a bit to revamp/retcon nearly my entire roster, advertise our new starting position and review any incoming profiles while doing the former two--I'm still willing to RP with it.
But like I said. Unfortunately undecided briefly.
I'll figure something later.

That's what I'm saying, Chammy, Starting over is like a reset button and everything else doesn't matter anymore. But I suppose it wouldn't be all that bad, I won't contest it -shrugs-
I found book three to be the most fun. I liked the scene where zuko and katara go after her mother's killer. And i may have a different ending for that...

I see that some have asked for the opinions of the new-comers.
And while I don't consider my opinion to be as 'weighted' as other, senior members, here it is:
I don't favor a reboot. I like where the plot is in the thrid book and I would find it most interesting to RP in. I will admit that I am a bit lost when it comes to my character and what he has been through. However I have been trying to read the threads where Zuko was present, and it seems Iroh was npc'd mostly.
The archives are there for me to research my canon char.
Plus it would be a loss for all of the richly developed original characters to be reset.
Again, I don't feel my input should decide the future, as I was not here writing any of the past.
If there is a reboot, it would be easier for me, as a new member, however, any way we do it, I will develope the character Iroh to the best of my abilities and make him one of the favorite character as he is in the show.

Iroh, thank you for your honest opinions and as someone who has been on Feng Shui for four years, for the respect you have to the stories us old members, those of us who remain, have developed.
Your opinion is warranted, regardless of seniority. Feng Shui is here for the players and we want to make it the best experience possible. Yes, we've never had a steady Iroh. The longest we had an Iroh was maybe a few weeks. So he's not developed, but that gives you a chance to flesh him out through exploring what little Iroh-RP there has been. You can also make up things to fill the gaps in the RP.
I encourage other newcomers to share their opinions regarding whether we keep the current plot going or rollback.
