Danno's shirt dripped slowly, like a wet metronome. He sat in front of Detective Wong's desk, a puddle of water slowly accumulating beneath his chair. Detective Wong pushed back his seat to keep his shoes from the water.
"Like I said Mr. Bukim, no witnesses have stepped forward."
Danno sat, unmoving. Wong shifted uncomfortably under his stare. He grabbed some files and rearranged them on his desk.
"I'm afraid there is nothing we can do besides file your report. If you would like, we can assign an officer to patrol your street."
Danno sat frozen for a few seconds longer before breaking into a humorless, toothy grin.
"No need, detective. I'm sure I can manage."
Danno lifted his hulking frame from the groaning chair, it's frame slightly bent inward. He moved toward the exit with a swift grace that did not seem to fit his large body. Several of the younger officers noticeably stared as he passed them. He ignored them, his mind wrapped around the enigma of the past few hours. His focus was broken by a slight figure waving him down.
"Danno! Hey, Danno!"
Danno slowed, a genuine smile stretched across his face. He wrapped his arms around the little man, an audible "oomph" escaped the man's lips as Danno squeezed him playfully.
"Hui Zhao! My friend it has been too long!"
He let go of the poor man, allowing him to breathe. Hui returned the smile and playfully bumped shoulders with Danno.
"I see you've yet to pack on any real muscle."
Hui flexed his scrawny arms.
"Why don't you come with me to Bao's gym and I'll show you a few things?"
Danno's smile widened, "Must be a real hole in the wall if they let scum like you in there."
They laughed standing in the middle of the bustling station. Officers slowed down to stare at the odd couple occupying their station. Hui noticed the looks.
"Hey, why don't you meet with me at the dance hall over in the Dragon Flats district. We can talk a little more privately there."
"Dance hall?"
Hui gestured with his hands in elaborate charades, "Yeah, small building, real ugly. You'd fit in perfectly."
Danno punched Hui in the arm, almost flooring him. "Maybe I'll show up, add some class to the joint."
Hui rubbed his sore arm, backing up to avoid any more punishment.
"Great! See you there tonight. When you get there, ask for Shan Fang, she'll make sure you won't get lost."
Hui moved toward the door.
"Get lost?" Danno asked, but Hui was already gone.
